Describing the sound of Sacred Harp singing can be difficult. Arcane, otherworldly, and overwhelming, it's a unique a cappella form of shape note Christian hymn singing that was born in England in the 18th century, but took root in the American south. It's not something you listen to so much something as experience. This week on Transmissions, host Jason P. Woodbury speaks with Matt Hinton. Along with his wife, Erica Hinton, he's the director of the 2006 documentary Awake, My Soul: The Story of The Sacred Harp; in 2025, the duo returned to the film, remastering it and crafting a full update. This month, the film is screening in the Los Angeles area, including showings in Glendale, and Santa Monica, at the Laemmle Glendale, Laemmle Royal, and the Monica Film Center. Sacred Harp utilizes a shape note system, in which shapes—triangles, circles, squares, and diamonds—are paired with syllables—fa, sol, la, and mi—to represent the notes in the traditional scale. Awake, My Soul explores the culture that centers around this form of communal worship, and invites viewers into this strange musical world. In addition to his work as a documentarian, Matt Hinton is a musician himself. He's a member of the rock band Luxury, which features three Orthodox priests. He made a film about that group too, the 2019 movie Parallel Love: The Story of a Band Called Luxury. Though the soundtrack for Awake, My Soul, as well as a companion disc, Help Me to Sing: Songs of the Sacred Harp, featuring John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, Danielson, Richard Buckner, The Innocence Mission, author Rick Moody, and more, have long been out of print, they returned to streaming last month as the film celebrates its 20th anniversary. Join us this episode as we dig into the nature of communal singing, folk traditions, and the mysteries of sacred sound. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Boise State football is one of the most consistent brands in all of college football and in 2026 this proud program is stepping into a reborn Pac-12, celebrating the 40th anniversary of its iconic blue turf, and doing it all under a head coach who has spent a decade with Boise State. Welcome to the latest episode of THE DAWN, where Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson sat down to talk about what this new chapter means, and why he believes Boise State was built for this moment.Coach Danielson grew up in Southern California watching the Pac-10 turn into the Pac-12, and he watched Boise State from a distance before he ever set foot on the blue turf. Now in his tenth season with the program, he called the move into the new Pac-12 an exciting time for West Coast football and a natural homecoming for a fan base that always felt like it belonged in that conversation. The coaching lineage at Boise State is not lost on Coach Danielson with names like Dirk Koetter, Dan Hawkins and Chris Petersen setting the foundation for excellence on the blue turf. He called it the most humbling experience of his life to lead a program with that lineage. On the new conference, Coach Danielson praised the coaching talent across the league and called this first year just the starting point. He argued the champion of the new Pac-12 deserves a spot in the College Football Playoff regardless of a perfect record, noting that Boise State and its peers are not ducking marquee non-conference games, opening with programs like Oregon and Washington instead of padding schedules. For Coach Danielson, all of it traces back to a culture he sums up in two words: built different. Not just because Boise State plays its home games on the only blue field in the country, but because the program is chasing transformation over transactions. He talked about developing players in every facet and pointed to Ashton Jeanty, who had chances to leave and chose to stay, as proof the culture is real and not just a recruiting pitch. It is fitting, then, that this 40th anniversary season on the blue turf will forever carry the fingerprints of two players who embodied that mindset. Ashton Jeanty and Kellen Moore will have their numbers permanently placed on the hash marks of the blue field, a tribute Coach Danielson calls a reflection of two humble pillars who helped build Boise State into what it is today, and a fitting bookend for a program stepping into its next era with the same identity that got it here.Y-Option: College Football with Yogi Roth is a reader-supported publication. 274: What happens when your side hustle becomes your only income?(Show Notes: REtipster.com/274)In this episode, I talk with Ann Danielson about leaving behind a decades-long teaching career overseas to go all in on land investing. Ann shares the reality of walking away from stability, navigating uncertainty, and building a land business centered on freedom rather than constant hustle. We talk about subdivides, why straight land flips stopped working for them, how they find off-market deals without direct mail or cold calling, and what it feels like when the stakes suddenly get very real. This conversation goes way beyond land investing. It's about identity, risk, reinvention, and choosing the kind of life you actually want to build. If you've ever wondered whether you're ready to leave the safe path, this episode will hit home.

In her 20's, Jana Danielson got off of 11 medications, ended chronic pain, and reclaimed her body and health sovereignty, and it had nothing to do with doctors, surgeries, or even supplements. One MAJOR factor? Learning how to breathe again. Pretty simple but how many focus on their breath to heal?In this episode, I sit down with Jana Danielson, Pilates master instructor, fascia expert, and creator of the Cooch Ball — a simple, multi-purpose pelvic floor fitness tool.Jana went from a 21-year-old on 11 daily prescriptions, dismissed by her own doctor, to becoming pain-free and an advocate and teacher to others wanting to do the same.I've never studied the importance of the pelvic floor personally, so I am so grateful for coming across Jana and her work. She makes it so interesting and practical, and explains clearly this essential component to our good health - for women AND men. We all have pelvic floors and pelvic floor health is not just for women! You will learn how there is a good chance your pelvic floor is too tight rather than too weak, how your toes and feet are affecting you, the crazy connection between your big toe and pelvic floor and so, so much more! Compher is the easiest bottom-six player to say goodbye to if a taker exists. (34:30) - JVR and Perron Where James van Riemsdyk fits if the bottom six actually changes. In this bold and deeply informative episode of the Orgasmic Birth Podcast, Debra Pascali-Bonaro sits down with pelvic floor expert Jana Danielson to challenge long-held myths about women's bodies, postpartum healing, and pleasure. From incontinence to pain during sex to diminished orgasm, many women are told these experiences are "normal" after birth. Jana offers a powerful reframe: they may be common — but they are not normal, and they are not something women have to live with. Together, they explore how pelvic floor health is foundational not only for birth and recovery, but for lifelong vitality, confidence, and pleasure. Jana shares her personal journey from chronic illness and disconnection to healing through breath and movement — a path that ultimately led her to develop the Cooch Ball and her unique approach to pelvic floor fitness. In this episode, you'll learn: Why "just do your Kegels" may be outdated — and even harmful The difference between a tight pelvic floor and a strong one How breath and posture directly impact pelvic floor function Why symptoms like leaking, pain, and low libido are signals — not life sentences The connection between pelvic floor health and orgasmic potential This conversation is a powerful invitation to reconnect with your body, reclaim your health, and redefine what's possible — at every stage of life. About Jana Danielson Jana is a pelvic floor and movement expert, founder of Bloom Better, and creator of the Cooch Ball — the world's first pelvic floor fitness tool for women. Her work blends science and embodiment to help women release tension, restore function, and rebuild trust in their bodies. Get your Cooch Ball!
