Most high performers don't burn out because they're weak. They burn out because they've become too good at carrying pressure. In this video, I share what happened during a 160km kayaking expedition through remote Thai islands — the moment my nervous system stopped responding to pressure the way it always had before, and what that experience taught me about stress, burnout, emotional regulation, and sustainable performance. If you're a founder, leader, entrepreneur, or high-achiever carrying invisible internal pressure while still functioning externally, this episode will help you understand why “pushing harder” eventually stops working — and what to do instead. We explore 10 practical ways to leverage stress more intelligently so you can perform better, recover faster, and protect your long-term wellbeing without losing your ambition.Questions Answered• Why high performers burn out• What prolonged stress does to the nervous system• Why pushing harder stops working• How to regulate stress without losing performance• Early signs of burnout• How to build sustainable performance• Can stress improve performance?• How to restore clarity and resilienceWhat You'll Learn• How chronic pressure affects decisions• Productive stress vs overload• How stress impacts leadership• Tools to recover clarity• Why emotional regulation matters• How to perform without burning out• Hidden patterns behind exhaustion• A framework for managing stress in real timeKey Concepts Explained• Stress OptimisationLearning how to regulate and direct stress so it supports performance instead of undermining it.• Functional BurnoutA state where someone still appears capable externally while internally running on depletion, emotional suppression, and chronic nervous system strain.• Nervous System RegulationThe ability to recognise, stabilise, and recover from stress responses so the body and mind can return to clarity and resilience.

▪️ SpaceX shorten?

In this episode, I spoke with Stuart Fiertz, co-founder and president of Cheyne Capital.I've known Stuart for years and one of the things I appreciate most about him is his willingness to say things that many people in the industry are thinking but few will say publicly. This conversation was a good example. We started with private credit, because, well, there's a lot to say. Stuart argued that many of the concerns he and other investors have raised over the years are beginning to surface. He discusses the rise of payment-in-kind loans, concentration in software and technology, and why he believes the industry still hasn't fully absorbed the consequences of the dramatic interest-rate shift that began in 2020.As Stuart put it: "You just can't have such a momentous change in an interest-rate regime and not have fallout from that."But he doesn't expect a dramatic collapse. In fact, the industry has become remarkably good, perhaps too good, at delaying any reckoning. Loose covenants, refinancing activity, continuation vehicles, evergreen capital, and fresh sources of funding are all helping extend the credit cycle. The problems are showing up, Stuart argues, but they're unfolding far more slowly than many expected. We also discussed what may ultimately unlock the industry's enormous backlog of unsold private companies. Stuart has been thinking about this question for a while. When he entered the business, private equity often created significant value by taking public companies private and improving them. Today, many businesses have been passed from one sponsor to another through multiple ownership cycles.Stuart's question is a simple one: "Who is leaving value on the table?" he asked. His point was not simply that valuations remain too high. “I think there's a little bit of a challenge here that is more fundamental than I think people realize. It's part that the lemon's been squeezed. I think it's going to take a meaningful valuation haircut to move them. And I'm just not sure why the PE firms would mark them down.”We also get into why Stuart believes transparency may be the industry's biggest challenge. He argues that investors, regulators, and managers would all benefit from more consistent reporting and warns that private credit firms risk inviting heavy-handed regulation if they don't become more forthcoming about what is happening inside portfolios. And there's more. Listen in for other topics and tidbits we covered:• The difference between "cockroaches" and "termites" when assessing risk in credit markets• Why semi-liquid credit funds may increase cyclicality and pressure managers to deploy capital• Whether the industry's push into retail was driven more by asset gathering than investor need and why it matters• What continuation funds reveal about today's private equity exit environment• Why Europe remains both attractive and frustrating for private market investors

Grok says: “In this episode of Randumb Thoughts, host Darren O’Neill delivers a raw, unfiltered episode packed with life, death, and everything in between. The show opens with the shocking passing of NASCAR legend Kyle Busch, who died at just 41 from pneumonia that rapidly turned into sepsis — a sobering reminder to never “power through” when you're seriously ill. Darren shares heartfelt stories about Kyle's hidden kindness off the track and reflects on the tragedy hitting close to home after his own family battled brutal sinus infections. But the real wild ride begins when Darren recounts his terrifying nuclear stress test that went horribly wrong — blood pressure crashing, heart rate plummeting, and feeling like he was about to pass out right there on the table. He pulls no punches on medical incompetence and why you need to be your own health advocate. The episode also dives into politicians who ‘don't understand AI,’ ridiculous new regulations in Florida and Illinois, the dangers of over-regulating technology, and a disturbing sextortion case that drives home a blunt message: parents, wake up and take responsibility for your kids online. Raw, honest, and wildly entertaining — this is classic Randumb Thoughts. Tune in now for the laughs, the lessons, and the ‘did that just happen?’ moments.” Thanks for listening! The Ultimate "Stress Test" for the Housing Market: Do We Pass in 2026?

On The Market

Every recession, crash, and major change in the real estate market has its warning signs. And while most people think these can only be seen in hindsight, we have “stress tests” today that signal corrections, crashes, or rising prices to come. These tests not only test the housing market, but also the economy as a whole, to tell us whether we're going to spiral down for years or stay afloat. Today, we're looking at one of the greatest “stress tests” of the housing market—credit. The “canary in the coalmine” of real estate is forced selling. Once this begins, the domino effect can easily get out of control. When sellers can't pay their bills, and are forced to sell, a race to the bottom is almost inevitable—and there's one part of the real estate market where this exact scenario is ramping up—fast. In today's show, we're detailing the assets and regions most at risk, comparing 2026's economy to 2008/2009 to see where we stand, going over foreclosure and delinquency numbers, and touching on the newest (concerning) consumer debt numbers quickly starting to rise—will the spillover put the housing market in danger?  In This Episode We Cover Our latest “credit stress” report and who is (and isn't) paying their mortgages 2008 vs. 2026 housing market stats: foreclosures, delinquencies, and more Forced selling has already begun for one (formerly profitable) type of real estate The corner of the housing market seeing double-digit delinquency rates in 2026 Newest consumer debt numbers and why they should concern many Americans And So Much More! In this episode, we debrief Telehash #4 and dig into the open-source future of Bitcoin mining. We share behind-the-scenes metrics from HydraPool's six-and-a-half–hour live stress test, including 30.8 zettahashes processed, an average of 1.32 EH/s, a peak of 2.495 EH/s, 2,231 workers, 59 unique users, and an impressively low ~1% server CPU under >2,000 connections. We explain why rejection rates under ~2% matter, how stale and “difficulty too low” shares differ in solo vs pooled mining, and how Stratum “suggest difficulty,” plus our d= and h= password parameters, help right-size starting difficulty—making Telehash inclusive for both exahash renters and single-chip Bitaxe miners. We also touch on leaderboards, loyalty uptime rules, and shout out supporters like Elektron Energy, Compass, Saaz Mining, and Abundant Minds. From hardware to policy, we discuss Bitaxe UX updates (LVGL, Figma-driven UI, external display/knob), DOOMAXE fun, and industry standardization—from firmware and pools to racks, cooling, and power—arguing that open reference designs cut costs and risk for everyone. We cover GridPool's “winners list” approach to decentralized variance smoothing, the Patoshi/extra nonce story, vardiff dynamics, and privacy-conscious VPN mining. We reflect on immersion's decline versus hydro, ASIC roadmap realities and slowing efficiency gains, the supply-chain and security stakes (FCC Wi‑Fi moves, vendor backdoors), and why nonprofit coordination via the 256 Foundation matters for open firmware, dev kits, and reference designs. We close with community invites, next steps for Telehash #5, and a call for ASIC makers and big miners to collaborate on open standards that benefit small and large operators alike.

What happens to your body and clinical judgment when you're managing a code blue at the exact hour your biology demands deep sleep? Chinyelu E. Oraedu is an academic hospitalist and nocturnist with 17 years of post-residency experience who has dedicated her career to understanding the science and human reality of night shift medicine. In this episode, based on her KevinMD article "How night shift medicine exposes the reality of physician stress," she breaks down why the 2 to 3 a.m. window is the most dangerous period for both patients and providers, when melatonin peaks, alertness bottoms out, and emergencies keep coming. You will learn practical strategies for surviving and thriving on night shift, from the right timing for caffeine intake to using light therapy at your workstation to suppress melatonin secretion. Oraedu explains why sleep is the single most important factor for night shift workers and why she tells every resident to protect it above exercise, meals, and everything else. She also shares surprising early data from her own research showing that night shift workers who build intentional structure around their schedule report high satisfaction. Whether you are an incoming intern about to start your first night float rotation or a seasoned nocturnist still battling fragmented sleep, this conversation offers a practical framework for reducing the hidden health risks of working against your circadian rhythm. Tune into our episode "2026 Cholesterol Guidelines: LDL goals, lipoprotein(a), and coronary calcium scoring," brought to you by Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation. For the first time in eight years, LDL cholesterol goals have changed, and preventive cardiologist Seth Baum says the new guidelines are a long-overdue course correction. He breaks down the new LDL targets for your highest-risk patients, why the LDL hypothesis should be retired in favor of the LDL fact, why lipoprotein(a) screening finally belongs in every patient's workup, what a coronary calcium score over 300 really means for how aggressively you treat, and how to talk to statin-skeptical patients without losing their trust.

To understand the difference between tests and temptations, we must inspect the weight we are under. Are you facing a test or a temptation?Think of a test as an intentional stress-test on a structural beam. The engineer applies weight not to break the building, but to prove its load-bearing capacity for the next floor. God tests your faith to prove its integrity. Temptation, however, is like dry rot or substandard materials quietly eating away at the core from the inside. One tests your limits to expand them; the other exploits your limits to crush them. Don't mistake God's strengthening process for the enemy's sabotage."

The war with Iran has put a spotlight on the security and resilience of energy and supply chains around the world. In this second special episode from the ACORE Finance Forum in New York, host Ed Crooks explores what that means for the US power industry, at a moment when rising electricity demand was already putting the grid under strain.Lori Ann LaRocco, a trade and supply chain expert and author of Trade War: Containers Don't Lie, explains the global impacts from the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. She tells us that there are 70,000 products made from petrochemicals, including the components that go into solar panels, the chips for data centers, and your cell phone. Supplies of those products are being crunched because of the disruption to exports from the Gulf. Some are already in short supply. Even if the strait reopened tomorrow, the physical realities of repositioning tankers, clearing mines and restoring export infrastructure would mean supply chains would take at least a year to normalise. Her advice: know your supply chain not just to the first tier, but to the fifth, sixth and seventh.José Antonio Miranda, chief executive of Avangrid, talks about the opportunities and challenges created by rising electricity demand. He says investment needs to start now and keep going. His one word advice for policymakers: certainty. Investors have the capital and the expertise to deliver the new grid and generation capacity that policymakers want, he says. What the private sector cannot work with is retroactive rule changes and unpredictable permitting outcomes.Harry Krejsa, director of studies at the Carnegie Mellon Institute for Strategy and Technology, is a former official in both the Trump and Biden administrations who is focused on the relationship between energy and national security. He argues that worries about depending on China for clean energy technology often conflate two issues: cybersecurity risk, and supply chain dependency. His principle is guard the smart stuff, buy the dumb stuff, and build the future.Kara McNutt, Wood Mackenzie's head of power and renewables consulting for the Americas, shares her concerns about grid reliability. The share of dispatchable generation on the US grid is declining as coal-fired power plants shut down and new wind and solar capacity is added. Nuclear is genuinely exciting, with the global SMR pipeline nearly doubling in the past year, but it is a 2030s story rather than a solution for today.Benoy Thanjan, founder of Reneu Energy and host of the Solar Maverick podcast, is a solar developer. He is seeing surging interest in behind-the-meter storage, driven in part by concerns about energy security and resilience brought to the surface by the Iran war. The FEOC (Foreign Entities of Concern) rules, intended to stop unfriendly countries benefiting from US tax credits, remain a real point of friction. Customers want US-manufactured equipment, but the price gap between compliant and non-compliant products is still very large.Ray Long, president and chief executive of ACORE, closes by sharing his key takeaways from the forum. He says three things need to change to remove obstacles to investment: federal permitting reform, clear FEOC guidance from the Treasury, and faster approvals from the Departments of Interior, War and Energy for new projects. Swatch verkauft: FOMO. TikTok. Community. Resale. Warteschlangen. Und ein Stück Schweizer Uhren-Popkultur. Und Audemars Piguet? Beth and Lisa push back: libraries and schools depend on durable formats, sprayed-edge editions have made hardcovers a Gen Z collector's item, and paperbacks consistently outsell. Lisa made hardcover a deal-breaker when negotiating Heart and Souls to protect library access.Read the article here.TAYLOR SWIFT AS A WRITING TEACHERSwift is a master of show-don't-tell — capturing massive emotion in a single precise phrase without ever stating it outright. Beth recommends the New York Times in-depth interview on her songwriting process as required reading for any fiction writer.CRAFT DEEP DIVE: STAKES, TENSION & CONSEQUENCESEvery story lives or dies on what is at risk. There are always two levels and you need both — external stakes (plot consequences) and internal stakes (identity, belief, sense of self). They must be connected or the story falls flat.Beth's "So What?" Stress Test — apply to any scene or chapter:State what is happening in one plain sentence.Ask: So what? Readers ask this unconsciously on every page.Answer with a specific consequence — not "things get harder" but something like "she'll spend the rest of her life wondering if he ever really knew her."Ask "so what?" once more. What does this cost the character in terms of who they ARE? That second layer is where the real stakes live. The Index Card Method: Write one sentence per chapter, lay the cards out, and ask what the stakes are in each. You are expected to have the answer for every late-game scenario, every player conflict, and every parental concern, often with very little objective feedback. The One-on-One Member Call is designed to break that isolation. It moves the conversation from general "best practices" to specific program solutions. Whether you are struggling to implement a new motion offense or trying to fix a toxic locker room, having a dedicated "Second Set of Eyes" allows you to audit your program in real-time. This isn't just a Q&A; it's a strategic deep dive into the unique DNA of your team. The true value of these calls lies in the Compression of the Learning Curve. Instead of spending three seasons of "trial and error" trying to figure out why your press isn't working, a fifteen-minute focused conversation can identify the technical leak—whether it's your "trapping angles" or your "interceptors' positioning." By sharing your film or your practice plans, you receive Immediate, Actionable Feedback that you can take to the gym the very next day. This level of personalized mentorship is the "Force Multiplier" that helps good coaches become elite leaders. Finally, these calls provide Professional Emotional Support. Every coach faces "The Grind"—those weeks in January where the shots aren't falling and the energy is low. A one-on-one call serves as a "Reset Button," providing a fresh perspective that helps you refocus on your "Process" rather than the "Scoreboard." Use these sessions to "Stress-Test" your ideas before you bring them to your team. When you have a trusted mentor in your corner, you lead with more Poise, Confidence, and Clarity. In this week's episode of the Sweat Elite Podcast, Mick Fox (2:19 marathoner) and Matt Fox (2:18 marathoner) reveal that they have both been doping to sub 2:20 marathons. They also talk about Emma Bates' UCAN sponsorship drama, an inbound message from Hugo Fry, Ben Is Running's Berlin Half Marathon result, Cole Gibbons' stress fracture, and much more. The episode covers a mix of humour, controversy, racing updates, and behind-the-scenes insights into elite and sub-elite running. The light start transitions into a more serious check-in with Mick, who shares an update on a long-delayed hospital stress test following previous chest pain and concerns around heart health. The conversation then turns to the Emma Bates and UCAN sponsorship situation. They break down Bates' claim that she was dropped due to pregnancy, contrast it with UCAN's statement that discussions had already been underway, and highlight how quickly social media can form one-sided narratives without full context. This leads into a broader discussion around online reactions, accountability, and the dangers of pile-on culture. They also revisit commentary around running creators, with Mick acknowledging that Hugo Fry reached out privately to explain his financial situation and background. That added context shifts Mick's perspective, with Hugo planning to share more publicly in a future video. On the racing side, Mick recaps a tough half marathon run in heavy wind and rain, finishing around 68:40 for second place while importantly coming through healthy with no hamstring issues. Luke and Matt also highlight Ben Felton's strong 1:04:50 PB in Berlin and discuss an unusual race moment where a pacemaker nearly crossed the line first, sparking conversation about race dynamics. Matt shares updates from China, including exploring local running culture, testing Chinese super shoes, and the possibility of visiting factories to better understand production, distribution, and pricing. This opens into a broader reflection on journaling, maintaining real-world friendships, and staying grounded beyond social media. The episode also touches on Cole Gibbons withdrawing from the London Marathon with a stress injury, and a wider discussion around criticism directed at influencers. They reference Mary McCarthy's comments on gendered criticism in running and examine how online negativity often escalates beyond reasonable discussion. They close by encouraging listeners to join the Supporters Club and private podcast feed for deeper training conversations, additional episodes, and access to the Discord community. https://teachhoops.com/ "Office Hours" with Coach Collins isn't just a Q&A session; it's a strategic war room for your program. Coaching can be an incredibly isolating profession, where you are expected to have all the answers for players, parents, and administrators while navigating the high-pressure environment of a competitive season. Office hours provide a "Safe Harbor" where you can bring your most "unsolvable" problems—from a broken press-break to a fractured locker room—and receive battle-tested, objective feedback. By opening the door to Vulnerable Mentorship, you move from "guessing" your way through a crisis to executing a proven blueprint for success. One of the primary benefits of these sessions is the "External Audit." When you are in the middle of a 20-game season, it is easy to develop "tunnel vision." You might think your problem is your "Zone Offense," but after five minutes of "Office Hours," we might discover the real leak is your "Spacing Discipline" or a lack of "Rep Density" in practice. These calls allow us to perform a "Program Diagnostic" in real-time. Whether we are breaking down film of your last game or scripting your "Late-Game Menu" for the upcoming playoffs, the goal is to provide Actionable Clarity that you can implement at your very next practice. Finally, "Office Hours" serves as a Force Multiplier for Your Leadership. When you show up with questions, you aren't showing weakness; you are modeling a "Growth Mindset" for your entire staff and roster. Use these sessions to "Stress-Test" your new ideas before you introduce them to your team. Utilize your TeachHoops member access to stay ahead of the curve on modern trends, from the "Small-Sided Game" revolution to "Load Management" for high school athletes. By investing in your own Professional Development, you ensure that your "coaching ceiling" is always rising, which in turn lifts the potential of every player who steps into your gym. High School Hoops ( Coaching High School Basketball)
Ep 396 How Can You Replicate the Intensity of a Post-Season Environment in Practice?

High School Hoops ( Coaching High School Basketball)

https://teachhoops.com/ When the post-season arrives, the atmosphere changes: the crowds are louder, the scouting is deeper, and the "Margin for Error" shrinks to nearly zero. To prepare your players, you cannot simply "turn it on" during the first round of the playoffs; you must "Stress-Test" your program during the regular season. Replicating this environment requires more than just high-intensity drills; it requires Psychological Simulation. You must create scenarios where the consequences of a mistake are immediate and meaningful. If your team only plays "comfortable" basketball in practice, they will experience "Performance Paralysis" when the lights get brighter and the pressure mounts. One of the most effective ways to simulate post-season pressure is through "Special Situation Scripting." Dedicate at least 15 minutes of every practice to "Game Winners" or "Post-Season Scenarios." For example: "You are down 1, opponent is at the line for a 1-and-1, 8 seconds left, you have no timeouts." By forcing your players to make "Live-Action Decisions" in these micro-moments, you build Performance Poise. In the post-season, teams don't lose because they don't know the plays; they lose because they can't execute them under the "weight" of the moment. Use your TeachHoops member calls to audit your "Late-Game Menu"—do your players know exactly who is getting the ball when the season is on the line? Finally, you must clutter the environment. In a post-season game, communication is difficult because of the noise. Replicate this by blasting crowd noise over the gym speakers during your scrimmages. This forces your players to develop "Non-Verbal Synergy" and to over-communicate with their hands and eyes. Additionally, implement "Consequence-Based Drills" where the "stakes" are high—such as a "Perfect Minute" drill where the team must play a full minute of error-free defense or the clock resets. By making the "Standard of Excellence" harder than the game itself, you ensure that when the playoff tip-off happens, your team feels a sense of "Familiar Calm" rather than overwhelming anxiety.
