Paxton's message on judgment sparks conversation with this week's hosts— Josh, Paxton, Michael, and Steve— a powerful and honest conversation about what happens after we die. The team explores the reality that everyone faces judgment—either reckoning or reward—and unpacks the comforting truth that Jesus stands with us in that moment, clothing us in His righteousness. They lean into Hebrews 9:27 and reflect on how easy it is to get distracted by the day-to-day and forget about eternity, but how essential it is to live with that eternal perspective now. In true Beyond Sunday fashion, things take a hilarious turn with a special segment called Judgment Seat Confessions, where the team “charges” one another with fictional offenses. But amid the laughter, the heart of the episode centers on God's perfect judgment—never misjudging, never overlooking, always just. Paxton also shares the source of the powerful sermon illustration that came from R.C. Sproul's children's book The Priest with Dirty Clothes, which beautifully illustrates how we are covered in Christ's righteousness. Buy on Amazon – The Priest with Dirty Clothes by R.C. Bible Reading: Colossians 3:1-15"Mom! Where are you?" called Finnley when she got home from school."Helping Ella with her bath," answered Mom. Finnley ran upstairs. "Actually, we're finished," Mom said. "Ellajust needs to get dried off and dressed."Four-year-old Ella peeped out from behind the shower curtain. "Mommy, I want my red pants and flowered shirt.""But honey, you were wearing that before your bath, and it's dirty," said Mom. "You can wear this nice, clean yellow outfit.""I want the red one!" protested Ella, pouting. "It's my bestest one!""But you're clean now," Finnley said, "so you have to wear clean clothes.""Exactly!" said Mom."Hey, that's kinda like what Mrs. Richards said in my class at church yesterday," said Finnley. "She talked about trusting in Jesus and taking off our old self and putting on a new one. I didn't quite get it, but it's like Ella needing to change her dirty old clothes for clean ones, right?"Mom nodded. "Before we receive Jesus into our hearts, we're like Ella before her bath--and you know what that's like!" she said with a grin.Finnley giggled as she pictured her little sister, clothes spattered with mud, face sticky and sweaty, arms and legs covered with dust and dirt. "I sure do! When we trust Jesus to save us from sin and forgive our wrongs, it's like taking a bath and getting all cleaned up, right?""Yes, and after that, we must put away our dirty clothes--sinful actions like lying and cheating and attitudes of envy, anger, and pride. Sometimes we don't want to do that. We cling to those things, like Ella clings to her favorite red outfit. But our old clothes--our old selves--are no longer fit to be part of our lives because Jesushas made us new people. Sin isn't a part of who we are anymore because Jesus has freed us from it." Mom helped Ella slip into the yellow outfit. "We need to wear fresh, new clothes of kindness, humility, patience, and love that are appropriate for our new life in Christ.""I like this yellow outfit," announced Ella suddenly. "I want to wear it all the time!" -Tanya FerdinanduszHow About You?Have you trusted Jesus to forgive your sins and make you clean? If so, can others see that He has made you a new person? Or are you clinging to sinful habits that were part of your old way of life? Put sinful things like lying, greed, selfishness, and being unkind away and put on your new self. Clothe yourself in the love Jesus has given you so others can see that you belong to Him.Today's Key Verse:Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. Paul confronts the false teachers in this passage at the church of Colossae who were teaching that immorality and asceticism was acceptable because the body is evil. Paul tells us that if we desire to have an ongoing, intimate relationship with Jesus, we need examine and guard our hearts. He puts this in very strong language. He gives us some heavy things to consider which requires an honest examination of our own hearts. This message is not meant to give us a formula, but some practical guide lines to help us live in Christ and grow spiritually from the inside out.

The Church is not a thrift store. We can't dump our junk or sell it to the unsuspecting. We often fail to think how dumping our sin is damaging to someone else. When we clean out spaces in our hearts and lives, what are we making room for? We don't need to fake it or have it altogether. We simply need to go to our Father, who is the waste management company. He removes our sin as far as the east is from the west. As believers, when we remove something, it is to make room for something better. And for us, there is nothing better than grace through faith. Do you ever feel totally alone as you walk through all the different ages and stages with your kids? Today, Bethany is sharing some questions she has gotten from other mamas to remind us all that other moms face the same things you do. And the good news is, none of us are alone in it!  Jesus is walking along with you. You are on a journey with your kids and he is walking right alongside you.  You do not have to be perfect! You don't have to have the right answer for everything, you don't have to know the perfect way to communicate with each child, that perfection is reserved for Christ alone.  Don't forget to head over to  https://bethanykimsey.com to grab your copy of the free prayer guide along with other resources, such as conversation starters to begin introducing the gospel into your conversations. How long do you typically wear a pair of jeans before you wash them? Unless I get them sweaty or so dirty they are unpresentable, I will wear a pair of jeans for multiple days because I want to preserve water as well as avoid wear and tear on the denim. But after a couple days, natural skin oils leave my jeans feeling grimy. Also the normal motion of my daily activity stretches them out, and they feel too loose. For me, the sweet spot is three days, but no more than that. After day three, the jeans go in the dirty laundry bin. How about you? Are you a single-use person? Maybe two days? How many days do wear them?Believe it or not, the CEO of Levis, Chip Bergh, said that you should never wash a pair of jeans. He meant it, claiming that he does not ever wash his jeans. Washing them, he said, does damage to the denim. Instead he spots cleans with a toothbrush, as needed. How do you feel about that?I love the feeling of newly-washed jeans, either crisp from being line dried, or softer from the dryer. Admittedly, Mr. Bergh is right; over time, washing jeans will fade their fabric. Mine always thin in the knees, inevitably leading to holes. But I can’t imagine never washing my jeans. Wouldn’t they start to stink? They would! Anti-washers have solutions for that. Put your jeans in the freezer overnight to kill the bacteria creating the odor, or hang them out in the sunlight, or spray them with a deodorizer. Again, I ask, how do you feel about that?I’m talking about laundry because over the next two weeks, in this week sermon in our series through Colossians, the writer of the letter of Colossians, the Apostle Paul, talks about laundry. This week is part 1, taking off the dirty clothes, and next week, part 2, will be about putting clean clothes on. When it comes to the kind of laundry Paul is talking about, it seems he would differ from the CEO of Levis. But what kind of laundry is Paul talking about? Check out Colossians 3:5-11 and then listen to the podcast as we talk about it further!

September 8, 2020Colossians Deep Dive (#10 in series)Changing Out of Your Dirty Clothes Colossians 3:6-9Verses 6-7 explained.DIRTY CLOTHES TO TAKE OFFColossians 3:8 (NIV) 8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: …The Greek words in this verse are the ones that are used when describing the taking off of clothing. So, the picture here is that of taking off dirty clothes. Well, Paul is referring to the next list of sins as being like wearing dirty, stained and smelly clothes, and he challenges us to take them off. But for now, what are the “dirty clothes” that we are to take off? Let’s take a look.Colossians 3:8 (NIV) 8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.Anger - The Greek word here is speaking of a deep, smoldering, resentful and bitter type of anger. This person doesn’t want to forgive. They want to remain angry. Rage - Rage refers to sudden outbursts of anger. Something happens or something is said and all of a sudden someone is mad at you. Malice - Malice is the vicious nature, which is desiring to do harm to others. One of the ways that we can do harm to others is found in the next word – slander, or blasphemy in the KJV. Slander - When we slander we are tearing a person down. But the Bible teaches that we are supposed to build one another up. What we say may be a lie, but it might not be, but you are saying something that does not need to be said. Often times slander is an insult. Filthy language - There was a time when such language was only heard in a locker room or in a bar. But sadly, dirty language has become quite common within our culture. Such language is abusive and has no place in the vocabulary of a Christian. We need to be careful how we speak of each other and how we speak to each other. Lying - Lying is pervasive. Our government officials lie. Employees at the store lie to the customers. Husbands and wives lie to each other. If you lie, you are reflecting Satan. The Bible says that Satan is the father of all lies. COMING NEXT WEEK - SHOPPING FOR NEW CLOTHES

The real dilemma that I address on today's episode is this: when you wear something, but you're not ready to wash it yet, what do you do with it?
