This week we watched, for the very first time, Mad Max: Fury Road for our weekly discussion. One of the biggest blockbusters of 2015 and the fourth movie in the series, Fury Road stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron in a gritty, gruesome post-apocoplyptic world dominated by monikers like Guzzleine, Gastown, Vuvalini, and THE DOOF WARRIOR. We have heard a lot about this movie from respectable sources, and so we paid Amazon $4 and sat down to answer the question...is it a must watch? CONTENT WARNING: language, violence, sexual situations
We're riding shiny and chrome into Valhalla today as we talk about Mad Max: Fury Road, starring... Cipher after the fall? Before we ride into the wastelands, though, Joe gives us some tips on how to (lazily) watch the Olympics, we discuss the "best" (and our favorite) scenes in the Fast and Furious, and wonder where Bilkins got his (different) bag of popcorn in the 2 Fast 2 Furious Minute (42:45). Then, we're off to talk about Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road (53:05). We talk about the stunts, hair blindness, and the Doof Warrior, and also wonder if Pokemon Snap could inform the future of the Fastiverse. The gang discovers haraka (fire) this week as they review Caveman (1981) starring Ringo Star, a fan pick by listener Stacy. This experimental slapstick comedy, that also features a young Dennis Quaid, is strange entry into the annuls of cinema history. Labeled as a comedy, but it seems more like a children's cartoon come to life, written by someone with a head injury. Simply put... it's not good, But can the gang find the silver lining? Watch on youtube for free, and tune in to find out. Stacy calls in to defend her pick, as well. To survive in the wastes of a post-apocalyptic Australian desert you need to be mad, borderline feral — or at least have a kitted out War Rig, a cab full of guns, and your hopes set on the idyllic “green place” from your childhood memories. Mad Max Fury Road (2015) is the fourth installment of George Miller’s action film franchise, Mad Max, starring Tom Hardy as Max and Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa in an unlikely partnership and epic car chase across the desert. In this episode of Motion Picture Pals, we talk about what makes this film one of the best action movies (ever): the rich and detailed visual storytelling, the gripping weight of stunts and practical effects, and the feminist themes that spawned internet controversy. Our favorite moments include: The Doof Warrior’s flame guitar The Pole Cats on Chinese Poles Driving into a sandstorm (with lightning) *Chrome spray paint* “WITNESS ME” Motion Picture Pals is co-hosted by Cam Call, Rebekah Markillie, Joel Aleman, and producer Travis Lien. Oh. Oh dear. Oh hello. 2019 is DONE. You made it. We made it. We made it TOGETHER. Since we changed up our format, we've missed doing "If I Were You" at the end of every episode. So, we figured, what better way to ring in the new decade than have a whole episode dedicated to recommendations from the 2010s? There are so many crispy nugs in this basket. Topics include: The Real Effing Deal, Spotty Swaps, The Recommendation of the Century, The Doof Warrior and His Beautiful Flaming Guitar, and Watching Atlanta With Your Kids. *** Come chat with us, and other fans, in our FACEBOOK GROUP. iTunes FacebookTwitter InstagramYOUTUBE Or, search for us on SPOTIFY if you think Adventure Time could have used more quiet poetry.
Max leaps down onto the Doof Warrior’s stage, but before he can continue on to the War Rig, He has some Imperators to contend with, a task made easier with the use of the flaming guitar. Elsewhere, Cheedo devises a way to get onto the Gigahorse to help Furiosa and climbs onto the hood to call out to Rictus. Meanwhile, Max manages to leap onto the tanker. Special Guests: Nathan Porter and Jenny Rist
The War Party thunders across the wasteland to the raucous soundtrack provided by the Doof Warrior, and right out front is Nux trying to catch the eye of Immortan Joe. As He shouts and salutes, Nux is blessed with the slightest glance from The Immortan, and rejoices by raising his steering wheel in celebration and speeding ahead. Special Guest: Shem Herman from Mad Max Bible

Ever wonder what kind of demented genius signs on to build those crazy motorcycles, the Doof Warrior's guitar, FURIOSA'S ARM??
