Case 2: "Ashes to Ashes" The Call: A series of spontaneous human combustions have rocked the Ashford Ward, the factory and industrial heart of Newfaire. At first thought accidents, survivors whisper of a phantom made of smoke and flame — and strange ash sigils are found at each site... Welcome to the Circle of Veritas, a Candela Obscura Real Play podcast by the Creative Play and Podcast Network. In the gaslit streets of Newfair, our brave circle of investigators faces ancient horrors, uncovering secrets while battling the supernatural. As they strive to protect the fragile veil of reality, listeners are taken on an atmospheric journey through the shadows that cloak their world. Our circle navigates talents, relationships, and the eerie mysteries of a supernatural tome to collect gear and build trust. Can they maintain discretion and unity while facing the darkness that watches in waiting? As new alliances form and old tensions fade, the investigators are summoned to the Librum Veritas to unravel secrets hidden in the heart of the Briar Green District. With every roll of the dice and strategic alliance, the line between the familiar and the unknown blurs. Stay vigilant, for in the shadows, ancient truths stir. Our first full episode of The Circle of Veritas, our Candela Obscura campaign, is now live! In Session 1, our newly-formed Circle is summoned to the bookshop Librum Veritas and sent into their first case: mysterious deaths in a graveyard, sigils of ash and bleed etched into flesh, and rumors of war-dead walking again… The circle must unravel the truth behind the haunted coin, lost soldiers, and a dark cult on the rise. ✨ Candela Obscura is published by Darrington Press, the imprint of Critical Role, and you can find the core book and quickstart rules at https://darringtonpress.com/candela-obscura. Daniel Harila is a freelance artist and writer from Norway. He started drawing monsters when he was 3 years old and couldn't stop creating even if he wanted to. He had a long break from roleplaying games during his late teenage and early adult years, pursuing punk music and various endavours in creative arts all at the expense of his own financial stability, and loads of other crazy things like suspending from shark hooks, being raised as a foster child and other weird stuff. He did not explore traditional adventure games until he played AD&D with chad bowser (cthulhu dark ages) and later bought Mörk Borg when it was on sale the same year. He is happily married, vegan and obsessively.https://danielharilacarlsen.myportfolio.com/https://daniel-harila.itch.io/https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/publisher/29361/mudknight-mediahttps://bsky.app/profile/danielharila.bsky.socialCheck out his adventure on KS right now!https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/danielharilacarlsen/duginthroat-dividedThank you for listening to Weird Games and Weirder People! Please subscribe to the show to keep up with new episodes!SUPPORT THE SHOW!If you would like to support the show, leave a review and/or join the Weirdos' Cool Club! Step back for a moment to 1993, and remember the awe that filled your mind when you got those first glimpses of that ill-fated park, hidden out on an island. The Case if getting deeper as the crew are driven to follow the leads to a very dark place with echos of the great war... Your support helps us keep the mics on and the mysteries coming—thank you!
This week we're joined by Wil, lead designer on a team that's re-imagining an older game, called Tribe 8, published by Dream Pod 9. He and his team, which includes Logan, co-host of The Story Told podcast, have taken their love of Tribe 8 and meshed it with the modern Forged in the Dark mechanics to bring this deep, rich setting back to life! It's dark, supernatural, post-apocalyptic fun, waiting to be experienced by anyone who dares. Currently, they're running a Kickstarter campaign to fund the final art and logistics of the game, and Wil and I had a wonderful chat about it, so listen, enjoy, and, if you're so inclined, support! Sink your teeth into a slew of vampire movies from 1922 through 2025 that may or may not suck with returning movie lovers Chris Holmes and Michael Stewart (Save for Half podcast, Found in the Ruins podcast), plus we chew a bit on Stoker's Dracula novel. From England to Transylvania to Germany to Italy to Spain to Japan and beyond… those bloodsuckers are everywhere!! Which vampire flicks made us their thrall? One flick's surprise armadillo never fails to amuse Shane. Chris objects to amazingly cool armor in Dracula movies. What astoundingly fantastic Funko Pop does Shane own?? The Case if getting deeper as the crew are driven to follow the leads to a very dark place with echos of the great war... Your support helps us keep the mics on and the mysteries coming—thank you!
The Four from Cincinnati venture forth into the irradiated warrens beneath the ruins of old Detroit, in search of clues to the fate and location of their missing game master, Mike. Friend of the show Eddie Bartlett stops by on this one shot episode to talk about his and John Watson's up-coming DCC release, “Dungeon Dwelling Creatures” (DDC). This DCC-compatible rulebook puts players in the role of the monsters—and not that sort of cutesy “Oh I'm a cat-person,” or, “Look at me, my father was a dragon…” stuff. No, these monsters are grotesque, wicked little things like Orcs, Wendigos, Debiks, Hags and many more. Eddie talks a lot about the functional design of a game like this and gives us some insight into how some of the classes work, what “Vile” is and how it compares to Luck, and what we can expect in this new DCC-powered game system. This project is going to be live on Backerkit throughout August (launching August 1st). You can follow it here: https://www.backerkit.com/call_to_action/3a256628-d20c-4ff6-b74b-a36b89f27015/landing?fbclid=IwY2xjawLyI7FleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHiQRGWJ-JnCNIdQiKW3AflCX8j6z85S07U7HV5QMwDl2-xBUwBqzOa1yB5aM_aem_x7LG46rBERYG-2bQypBeaw It also has a quickstart guide that has been out for a bit, available at DriveThruRPG here: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/502566/dungeon-dwelling-creatures-quick-start-rules The quickstart is a great sample of some of these amazing classes, a few spells, and a great adventure to show you just one of the many ways playing the monsters is a unique source of fun!
