Playing tabletop RPGs on a virtual tabletop versus in person. Shane's weekly game group has a hard time finding multiplayer video games they all agree on. Against all odds, a rhomboid is both a muscle and a geometric shape. The age-old question of what is a CRPG? Shane thinks Baldurs Gate 3 is the best adaptation of the tabletop experience ever in a CRPG. What does rat milk taste like, and is it good for the hair? The Army is giving time off to…. play a video game?? (What amazing game could this be??) MMO shooters for the glory of the state. Matt is very impressed with Fallout: New California. The legal ins and outs of game mods. Classic Ultima Online (multiplayer classic Ultima, not the Ultima Online MMORPG). The "1,000 Good Fans" theory. Shane and Matt used to play MUDs. Never cast invisibility on the fountain. Matt loves smashing rats, and Shane loves driving around in the Mako and blasting the crap out of stuff in Mass Effect. Bill predicts the timeframe for the new version of D&D to come out. A surprising amount of B/X D&D is being played vs "Red Box" and BECMI at cons. The third edition of the BX RPG from Pacesetter is unleashing. Dungeon X is coming… Dungeon X is taking the best of D&D from the last 50 years and molding it into a new game. Choose-Your-Own-Path Stories are a new choice on the market. Solo adventures (one play only, not a duo between DM and player) definitely have a place in the hobby. Pacesetter runs one of the longest-running consecutive D&D tournament series at cons. There was a time when TSR thought publishing adventure modules was a terrible idea with no market. Let's be real, OD&D is super important to the hobby, but it's not the most organized and readable set of rules. Anthony “Runeslinger” (Casting Shadows) and I discuss what makes “good players” buy into horror roleplaying and, specifically, why characters would investigate terrifying situations and keep returning after trauma. They explore common answers, such as belonging to an organization (e.g., Delta Green), and why that only starts the conversation, contrasting player motivation (“otherwise we don't play the game”) with believable character motivation. Anthony emphasizes building motivations through bonds, community ties, and mirrored player/character connections—what he calls “unity of perspective”—rather than removing agency by trapping characters. The Deep Lake Latchkeys are a group of people who used to live in Deep Lake, New Mexico when they were kids. In the 80s and early 90s, there was a mysterious public access TV station in town. That is, until it was wiped off the face of the earth in 1992. Most have explained it's disappearance mundanely, but only these folks remember the station's programming, and its bizarre, otherworldly fare.Going back to their old home town to seek the truth in 2004, their investigation proves fruitless thus far. However, a tape of a recording from the station appears on their doorstep, as does a man their age. He pleads for their help investigating his old childhood friend's home on Escondito Street. His family vanished in the 1994 without a trace, and what remains in that house is not good...Thus begins our broadcast day.Public Access is a Carved From Brindlewood RPG of nostalgic analog horror in the early aughts by Jason Cordova. Today we sit down with Laurence Philips of Hardy Roach Games, an independent designer who creates unique games that focus on themes that dive deeper than your average TTRPG.  His one-page games are weird and exciting to play, and now he discusses his brand-new game, Il Fantasmo del Giallo. Step into the world of Giallo, a 20th-century Italian film genre that focuses on switchbacks, misdirection, and mile-high stakes. Il Fantasmo del Giallo is a cinematic, dark, brooding game that focuses on narratives and scenes more than a traditional dice-roller. Drama, Mystery, and Mortality are the main words of the game, and it's an excellent example of the doors that have opened in modern roleplaying.
