Asha Sharma, former President of Microsoft CoreAI with prior executive roles at Instacart and Meta, has been appointed EVP and CEO of Microsoft Gaming, succeeding Phil Spencer after his 38-year tenure—including 12 years leading Xbox, during which the business nearly tripled in scale. Spencer transitions to an advisory role through summer 2026.Sharma's "Return to Xbox" vision emphasizes reclaiming the brand's renegade spirit of surprise, experimentation, and building what others won't—starting with a recommitment to console hardware and protecting 25 years of ecosystem investments. Key pillars include reducing device barriers across console, PC, mobile, and cloud, while enabling developers to build once and deploy everywhere. Upcoming hardware announcements are teased, amid speculation on continued roadmap support, including potential handhelds, with no abandonment of dedicated consoles confirmed. The segment covers executive changes: Sarah Bond's resignation (after ~8-9 years), Matt Booty's promotion to EVP & Chief Content Officer overseeing nearly 40 studios (Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, Activision Blizzard, King), and recent financials from Microsoft's Q2 FY26 report—overall corporate revenue up 17% to $81.3B, but gaming down 9% to $5.96B (hardware -32%, content/services -5%), representing just over 7% of total revenue, attributed to softer first-party releases versus prior-year comps. Despite 500M+ monthly active users and top publisher status across platforms, challenges persist from the ecosystem-first shift, exclusivity debates (e.g., ports of Halo, Forza, Gears), and internal fallout from "This Is An Xbox" messaging.Sharma stresses AI as a tool—not a replacement—vowing no "soulless AI slop" in games as human art, while addressing fan concerns with "Hear you" and a data-driven stance: "The plan's the plan until it's not the plan." Analytic Dreamz breaks down the 25-year brand tensions, acquisition legacy (Activision Blizzard, ZeniMax, Minecraft), and what this reset means for Xbox's future amid hardware contraction and multi-platform realities.Tune in for this unfiltered analysis of Microsoft Gaming's pivotal moment in 2026.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/exclusive-contentPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Allí viven sagas como Halo, Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Diablo y Candy Crush Saga. Esa operación dio a Microsoft franquicias como Call of Duty y World of Warcraft. Xbox saw Matty was slipping, so in a bold strategy to reel the Dukes back in, they have opted to greenlight Fallout 5. Despite what many will try and say to downplay this, there is a strong chance that Fallout 5 goes beyond the borders of Bethesda for the first time since 2010. Considering it's a mainline entry, this is a massive shakeup. It gets even more dicey when Obsidian Entertainment gets taken off the board. So, who makes a new Fallout game? The 76 team? InXile? Larian? Dare we say, a new studio? Oh, boy. Each choice outside of the obvious like Larian or InXile has their caveats. So, let's get into the thick of the future of the Bethesda's valuable post-apocalyptic IP.
Guess what, there's another reason to question the existence of the PS5 Pro! The Sony Sate of Play was pretty solid today, and its mainly due to the James Bond game trailer. Microsoft pushes back its handheld plans, Nintendo keeps it close to the vest, and Activision has a blunder. Plus Netflix has its Tudum, Mark Hamill shares his future, and thank god we don't live in the Michael Bay Superman Timeline. Plus my review of Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning.
We start with some check-ins Starbucks' war on workers, the fight by workers at Butler Hospital, and the continuing cruel attacks on workers by the Trump Administration. We've also got headlines this week from Duke, Western Washington University, Sutphen Corp, Golden Gate Nursing Home, and UPMC. Canadian port workers in British Columbia are fighting attempts to replace their jobs with robots. Farm workers in New York are fighting the brazen refusal of farm owners to abide by their legal contract. A recent piece in Labor Notes reports on efforts by both the SEIU and the Machinists to return their union siblings home after being abducted by ICE. Finally, video game workers have been organizing in bigger numbers every year, and this week saw workers at Zenimax reach a new milestone with a first contract. In this episode of the Day 0 Update: We talk about how much of a bummer this week's news has been with layoffs at EA, the trouble Zenimax unions have had with Microsoft, and the shakeup to games media with Polygon and Giant Bomb. All this and more, up next!Full show notes can be found here.
Headlines this week from New Bedford, Seattle, Utah, Chicago, and Missouri. A recent piece from Amir Khafagy reveals the criminal underfunding of one of the few institutions of New York City government actually intended to help working people. The Trump and Musk assault on the NLRB continued this week with attacks on NLRB precedent, theft of sensitive NLRB data, and increasing numbers of workers calling for unity in the fightback. Zenimax workers are standing up and preparing for one of the first strikes in the video game industry's history. Finally, workers with independent Mexican union SINTTIA have once again won major gains through militant action, raising standards for autoworkers across the country. After updates on striking hotel workers, new UAW academic organizing, city workers in Philly and avian flu in dairy workers, we dive into our main stories. Michigan nurses won a massive union election this week as nearly 10,000 voted to join the Teamsters. The Canadian government stepped in on the side of the shipping companies this week and forced workers on both coasts into binding arbitration. Meanwhile, 55,000 striking Canada Post workers are challenging Prime Minister Trudeau to try it with them. We also check in on the strikes by teachers in Massachusetts and the repression they are facing from the state government. Zenimax workers held a one day strike this week to protest their employers' continued intransigence. Finally, delivery workers at Bimbo Bakeries in Washington State recently voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike after over a decade since their last cost of living raise. This week, Nathan, Luke, and Chris are, despite the state of the world, in a celebratory mood, because Aftermath just turned one! When we launched this site a year ago, we had no idea how it'd go – we thought it'd either crash and burn or succeed beyond our wildest dreams, neither of which have happened – but we're exceedingly pleased with where we've ended up. We discuss lessons we've learned and our favorite moments from the past year, as well as some news – specifically, our own feature about how freelancers are propping up games journalism (and getting paid dogshit for it) and Zenimax workers' recent strike against Microsoft's restrictive return-to-office policies. Finally, to sate noted beacon of positivity Luke Plunkett, we talk about some games we've been playing recently and, for the most part, enjoying. Credits - Hosts: Nathan Grayson, Luke Plunkett, and Chris Person - Subscribe to Aftermath! About The Show Aftermath Hours is the flagship podcast of Aftermath, a worker-owned, subscription-based website covering video games, the internet, and everything that comes after from journalists who previously worked at Kotaku, Vice, and The Washington Post. Each week, games journalism veterans Luke Plunkett, Nathan Grayson, Chris Person, Riley MacLeod, and Gita Jackson – though not always all at once, because that's too many people for a podcast – break down video game news, Remember Some Games, and learn about Chris' frankly incredible number of special interests. Sometimes we even bring on guests from both inside and outside the video game industry! I don't know what else to tell you; it's a great time. Simply by reading this description, you're already wasting time that you could be spending listening to the show. Head to aftermath.site for more info.

Hey Strangers, #gaming #videogames #tangogameworks Tango Gameworks will live on, as Microsoft has reached an agreement with publisher Krafton to maintain the studio. Krafton Inc, known for games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has fully acquired Tango Gameworks from Xbox, as well as the the rights to recent action hit Hi-Fi Rush. Microsoft announced that it would close Tango Gameworks earlier this year, as part of a round of layoffs that saw a few other Xbox game studios closed. Tango was known for games like the aforementioned high-octane rhythm-brawler Hi-Fi Rush, as well as survival horror franchise The Evil Within. Tango was initially established in 2010 by Shinji Mikami of Resident Evil fame, with the studio coming across to Microsoft as part of the ZeniMax acquisition. ======================================= My other podcast https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKpvBEElSl1dD72Y5gtepkw ************************************************** Something Strange https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRjVc2TZqN4&t=4s ************************************************** article links: https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/xbox/former-xbox-studio-tango-gameworks-and-hi-fi-rush-has-been-acquired-by-pubgs-krafton-inc-saving-it-from-closure https://kotaku.com/release-date-delay-avowed-jurassic-park-terminator-1851621171 ====================================== Today is for push-ups and Programming and I am all done doing push-ups Discord https://discord.gg/MYvNgYYFxq TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@strangestcoder Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe9xwdRW2D7RYwlp6pRGOvQ?sub_confirmation=1 Twitch https://www.twitch.tv/CodingWithStrangers Twitter https://twitter.com/strangestcoder merch Support CodingWithStrangers IRL by purchasing some merch. The requirement for Helldivers 2 requiring PC players to link a PlayStation Network account has been reversed - for now. The 2024 World Video Game Hall of Fame inductees have been announced! Microsoft closes four studios from the Bethesda/ZeniMax side of the house, including ones that released smaller scale award winning games. They say this is because they can't actually afford to run all of the studios it bought. Xbox says that they need more smaller scale award winning games coming out of their studios. There is a new John Wick pinball machine coming out - look for it in a local barcade (if you have any) in the next few months! Then we talk to Rob about the fact that it's my birthday and how I want to retire the running joke of me being only 29 years old.
