Orlando City went to TQL Stadium and did something no other visiting team has done this season — defeat mighty FC Cincinnati. In fact, the Lions went 1-0-1 against the assumed Supporters' Shield winners in 2023, so that might bode well for a potential postseason run. You'll recall that the Lions are also the only visiting team with an MLS regular-season win at the Philadelphia Union. We broke down a nervy and hard-fought match in southwest Ohio, with the lads in purple coming out on top despite the loss of Duncan McGuire early on due to a shoulder injury. His replacement, Ramiro Enrique, managed to figure prominently in the winning goal. We checked back out our incorrect score predictions and made our selections for Man of the Match. We were split this time out. We also broke down the Ercan Kara transfer to Samsunspor. We knew the striker depth would become thinner if the move happened, but we didn't expect that to matter so quickly. OCB had a huge match at home on Sunday but things didn't go well in the first half for the Young Lions and the hole was too deep to dig out of in a wild 6-3 loss to Crown Legacy. The games are dwindling for OCB to clinch a playoff spot and the matches ahead aren't easy, but a Jack Lynn brace always makes for a more exciting experience when watching the Young Lions Our mailbagbox asked us about what Orlando City can / will do for more striker depth to see out the season and players who have revived their careers after coming to Orlando City. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Here's how No. 374 went down: 0:15 – The Lions managed to become the first team to beat FC Cincinnati on its home field despite losing Duncan McGuire early. 30:14 – What the Ercan Kara transfer means moving forward in light of McGuire's injury, which is hopefully not a longterm thing. 37:22 – OCB-Crown Legacy was another wild MLS NEXT Pro affair and we dipped into our mailbagbox. Orlando City fell into the proverbial trap. With St. Louis City in the rearview mirror and a trip to league-leading Cincinnati looming this weekend, the match in Charlotte against a team that's below the playoff line always looked like a trap game, even taking into account the Lions should have been out for revenge against a team that beat them at home in regular-season play and knocked them out of the U.S. Open Cup earlier this year. Charlotte came out with a great deal of energy and Orlando City struggled to match it. The Lions eventually settled into the game and created some of the game's best scoring chances, but struggled to finish when they stayed onside. A late penalty seemed to hand all the points to Charlotte again, but a little fortune fell Orlando City's way when a long-range Martin Ojeda set piece fell kindly after clearing every player on the pitch, allowing the Lions to escape with a hard-fought road point. We've got the full game breakdown and our selections for Man of the Match. Following our recap, we break down the reports of Samsunspor's interest in Ercan Kara and what that means for Orlando City through the rest of 2023. Geoff Tebbetts from Cincinnati Soccer Talk joined us to help us prepare for Orlando City's trip to southwestern Ohio this Saturday to face the Supporters' Shield leaders, FC Cincinnati. The Lions last saw FCC early in the season when the teams played to a 0-0 draw at Exploria Stadium. Geoff is the host of their Jersey Swap podcast and he did a great job of catching us up on the latest happenings in Cincy. Our mailbagbox was a bit light for this episode but we can only answer the questions you send us, and you asked us about Ercan Kara and about Folarin Balogun going to Monaco. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. OCB has a tall task ahead on Sunday and the Young Lions will probably have to face Crown Legacy without the likes of Jack Lynn, Abdi Salim, and potentially Thomas Williams. That's not ideal. Finally, we discussed Saturday's matchup between Orlando City and FC Cincinnati. We've got our key matchups and score predictions for you. Here's how No. 373 went down: 0:15 – The Lions struggled in the attack but scratched back to earn a point in Charlotte. 35:54 – We welcome Geoff from Cincinnati Soccer Talk to preview the Lions' trip to face the Supporters' Shield leaders. 54:06 – A look in the mailbagbox, OCB to face Crown Legacy without some key players, and our key matchups and score predictions for the Lions' trip to Cincinnati. Orlando City finally has a normal work week. But even though the Lions didn't play since our last show, there's still a game to discuss. OCB hosted Philadelphia Union II, looking to keep its unbeaten home streak intact. That did not, in fact, happen. The Union kids came in and took all three points in a lopsided 3-0 win over the Young Lions. The stats say the game should have yielded OCB a better result, but with the visitors striking twice in the first 21 minutes, the final stats are usually not going to reflect the outcome. OCB was unable to break through and make a game of it, both before and after the storm hit, and ultimately the home streak has been broken and the Young Lions will need to recoup those dropped points on the road. We discuss the reserve side's difficult night. In more positive news, OCB and Orlando City Development Academy defender Tahir Reid-Brown has been selected to the 2023 MLS NEXT All-Star Game. We know he'll represent the club well. We were then joined by Ruben Tisch, the managing editor at The Lantern, (formerly Hot Time in Old Town), which is a new subscription-based Chicago Fire newsletter since leaving SBNation. Ruben was generous with his time, letting us know about how Kei Kamara has fit in with the Fire, what former Lion Chris Mueller brought to the team before his injury, what his expectations are for Saturday night, and more. Big thanks to Ruben for his time. We obviously checked our mailbagbox to find questions about how to deprive Messi fans of tickets in Orlando, what might become of Ercan Kara, and our music-related tifo choices. Finally, we gave our key match-ups and score predictions for Saturday night's matchup between Orlando City and the Chicago Fire at Exploria Stadium. Orlando City went back on the road for a tussle with its neighbors to the south in the latest installment of the Tropic Thunder rivalry. The Lions struck first and last in a good overall performance against Inter Miami and claimed all three points in Fort Lauderdale for just the second time in five visits. Ercan Kara continued to pour in goal contributions with one strike and one assist. Not to be outdone, new Designated Player Martin Ojeda did the same. We're breaking down an enjoyable match in which things clicked on both ends of the pitch for Orlando City, and Oscar Pareja pulled all the right strings. We also made our selections for Man of the Match. Following our match rewind, we welcome The Mane Land Platinum Founder Samuel Atkinson to the program. Samuel wanted to talk about Orlando City and MLS salaries, and we had an interesting chat about the league's pay structure and how OCSC fits into the grand scheme of things. Big thanks to Samuel for the chat, and for his help in us getting our footing as an independent website. We also discussed Orlando City B's comeback against Atlanta United 2. The Young Lions battled back valiantly and probably deserved more than one point based on overall play, but any time a team is down multiple goals and takes any points out of the match, it can only be viewed as a positive. Finally, we dipped into the mailbagbox and answered listener questions about soccer position numbers, movie franchises that overstayed their welcome, and former Lion Chris Mueller. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Orlando City returned home but not to its winning ways as an 89th-minute equalizer by a kid scoring his first MLS goal ruined what was moments from being a perfectly fine victory over New York City FC. The Lions couldn't build on Ercan Kara's early goal, although some good saves from the opposing goalkeeper did help the visitors on that front. A point is a point and on this show we talk about how that point was earned and the other two points were dropped. We also make our Man of the Match selections and wish Mikey Halliday well as he's off to help the U-20 USMNT try to win a championship. Following our match rewind, we welcome Ian Hest, founder and host of The Heron Outlet to the program for the first time. He was kind enough to join us to help us preview Orlando City's trip south on the Florida Turnpike for Saturday's Tropic Thunder matchup. Orlando City finally scored a couple of goals but, unfortunately, the Lions fell behind 2-0 before scoring them. The lads in purple went to Columbus for their third consecutive match away from the friendly confines of Exploria Stadium to take on the Crew. After falling behind 2-0 at the break, again without putting any shots on frame, the Lions started hitting the target. City had a much better second half and mirrored the hosts by scoring once in normal time and once in stoppage time. Ercan Kara and Duncan McGuire were the goal scorers but we made a unanimous Man of the Match pick for someone else. After breaking down that draw against the Crew, we were joined by Andrew Leigh, senior editor over at Hudson River Blue, a New York City FC-centric blog. Like us, HRB was in the SBNation network and now must make a go of it independently. Andrew told us what he expects to see Wednesday and what he's seen all season so far from NYCFC. Following our chat with Andrew, we looked back at an OCB loss to Crew 2 that we wish we hadn't seen. It was an ugly 4-0 affair and the Young Lions never seemed really in the match. Our mailbagbox asked us to rate an Orlando City lineup that our own Ryan Smith came up with, to explain why the Lions aren't hitting the target, and to enlighten folks as to how we determine player grades. Orlando City broke its home slump with a comprehensive 2-0 win over the LA Galaxy at Exploria Stadium Saturday night and it was a lot more fun to watch than the previous four home matches. The Lions played with confidence and chemistry and were the protagonists of the game that Oscar Pareja always wants them to be. We break down Orlando City's win, including the return of Mikey Halliday and Ercan Kara — both key factors in the victory — the awesome display by the center backs, and some well-worked team goals. We choose a unanimous Man of the Match and tell you which Lions made Team of the Matchday. The Lions also got their U.S. Open Cup championship rings on Monday and they're cool. We would like to have one but we did not win the U.S. Open Cup. OCB left it late but came on strong in the final 10 minutes to equalize and then take the lead against Toronto FC II at home on Sunday. The Young Lions remain unbeaten at home and a strong early contender in the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference race. We'll tell you who scored and talk you through OCB's latest win. Finally, we dove into our mailbagbox to answer your questions about Orlando City's midfield and striker positions. Orlando City drew Tigres last midweek but in this case a draw was a loss, as the Mexican side got the all-important road goal in a 1-1 stalemate and advanced in the Concacaf Champions League. The Lions proved they belonged and were never bested but the tiebreaker setup did not shine on Orlando. Ercan Kara scored Orlando's first Champions League goal and no one who saw it will ever forget it. The team fought hard and it was a solid first outing in the competition against a former champion and perennial favorite. We broke the match down and named our Man of the Match — that second part was easy. The Lions, unfortunately, did not take that good performance into Saturday. Orlando City played poorly in the first half and couldn't recover from it after halftime. Martin Ojeda finally scored his first MLS goal but the Lions had little to celebrate other than that in a 2-1 loss at home to a Charlotte team that had been exceedingly poor to start the year. Still, we had to throw in some analysis and our picks for Man of the Match and we did our duty. Orlando Pride rookie Messiah Bright scored a brace in the NWSL side's final preseason match. That, along with a blast from Kerry Abello, allowed the Pride to come from 2-0 down against the Washington Spirit and win, 3-2. The Pride finished 5-0-0 this preseason. Bright joins us this week as our special guest and talks about that brace helping her build confidence. It sounds like the Pride are a confident bunch and the rookie forward talked about playing for Seb Hines, whether he actually ever gets angry, and her adjustment from college soccer to the professional ranks. Big thanks to Messiah for coming on the show. We discussed the Pride's new “Highway Woman” primary kit — which is great — and the story behind it. Whether the team is good this season or not, Orlando will once again be on point in the uniform game. The Pride have a difficult opening day, traveling to Portland to face the defending champion Thorns. It should make for a good early test to see how Orlando stacks up against the league's best. We also briefly touched on the OCB roster that dropped this week. Some familiar names are back, some are gone, and there are some new faces — some of whom have yet to arrive — this season. The Young Lions kick off their 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season Sunday in Philadelphia. This week's mailbagbox asked for some predictions on Orlando City's real-life finish vs. AFC Richmond's fictional one, how we fell in love with the beautiful game, and more. Before this week's show gets underway, we've got some announcements to make and we are pretty pumped up about them all. There is our fundraiser to launch our independence, obviously, which has us all extremely emotional and thankful. To that end, we began the long process of giving out our shout-outs to our brand new Founders. It's going to take a few shows to get them all in! If you were part of this week's, it means we don't have any way to contact you to get your benefits to you, so please email us. Then there are some podcast-specific announcements that we feel will make everyone's experience more enjoyable. We hope you like what's coming! Now, on to why you're here... Orlando City has played to two consecutive scoreless draws and the two results felt quite different from each other. The Lions survived squad rotation against a good FC Cincinnati side last weekend in league play and survived Tigres in Concacaf Champions League play on Tuesday night in Mexico. We analyze the two matches and make our Man of the Match selections for both games. After our conversation about two straight 0-0 draws, Orlando Pride Vice President of Soccer Operations and General Manager Haley Carter jumps on with us to talk about the job she's been hired to do. Among the things she shared with us is a huge tease about the summer transfer window, but alas...no specifics yet. Carter obviously has a lot of belief in Pride Head Coach Seb Hines and in strengthening the club through development at every level. After our discussion with Carter, there was news from the Pride side about the team's latest preseason win, the signing of draft picks Messiah Bright and Summer Yates, and a minor schedule change. We dipped into a full mailbag this week to discuss Ercan Kara, the AFC Richmond players we'd want to suit up for Orlando City, and more. Finally, we looked ahead to Saturday night's showdown at D.C. United, with key match-ups and predictions, and we're extremely amped about next Wednesday's rematch with Tigres. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 329 went down: 0:15 - Celebrating a shutout win for the second straight year and yet another opening day result for the Lions. Also celebrating a potential new deal for Torres. 36:09 - Haley Carter joins us to talk about her task of turning the Pride around, her thoughts on the current roster, and maybe a surprise is coming? 57:15 - The Pride won another preseason game and signed two more draft picks ahead of the 2023 season. 1:04:46 - Things we love: the mailbagbox, 5-star reviews on Apple Podcasts, and making predictions that will probably turn out to be horribly wrong. Orlando City continues preseason preparations although it's been a quiet week for the Lions otherwise. Meanwhile, the Orlando Pride had a much noisier week, which was expected with the 2023 NWSL Draft taking place last Thursday. Our show opens with a discussion of Orlando City's remaining needs as preseason training camp rolls along and how there seems to be a segment of the fan base that is not concerned with the youth at striker behind Ercan Kara. I would like to not worry about that, but that's not in my nature. We also discussed the report about the Lions' interest in a Colombian defensive midfielder, and we gave a couple of brief Orlando City-related updates. Orlando Pride Head Coach Seb Hines joined us to discuss draft night in Philadelphia. There are five new Pride players and it will be interesting to see if all of them earn a contract and how much they can contribute in 2023. The coach also discussed some of the club's recent moves. Following our discussion with Hines, we had our own chat about the NWSL draft, the loss of Meggie Dougherty Howard, and the re-signing of right back Celia and defensive midfielder Jordyn Listro. There are still some weaknesses within the Pride roster but things are starting to come together as the NWSL preseason approaches. Finally, we spent some time answering your questions from our mailbag, where we were asked about Arsenal (for some reason), some odd juxtapositions in the Orlando City starting XI, and the recent NWSL investigation findings. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 322 went down: 0:15 - We discussed the Orlando City position groups that still seem a little problematic as the season approaches. With four different competitions this season, it still feels risky to go into the season with just the strikers the Lions have at the moment. Even if a reported move for a U22 Initiative happens, is it wise to put so much responsibility on the kids? 21:18 - Seb Hines jumps on with us and tells us about his new draft class, why the Pride were willing to trade the No. 2 pick and two of the team's third-round selections...plus, how he's approaching the preseason and why the word “formation” doesn't matter to him. 42:27 - More Pride talk about the draft, a departure, and two re-signings, plus we delve into a rather full mailbag this week. Orlando City SC went a second straight week without any of its three teams suffering a defeat. Although it would be foolish to get used to that, it feels kind of great and if it continued, I'd never complain about it. The Lions went to North Carolina — and so did I — and brought home all three points after a 2-1 win against expansion side Charlotte FC, getting a season sweep by the same scoreline. We break down Orlando City's second consecutive road victory — which included the return of Ercan Kara — and make our selections for Man of the Match. We also discussed the surgery Alexandre Pato will have in his native Brazil and the chances we'll ever see the Duck in purple again. Next up for the Lions is fellow 2015 MLS expansion rival New York City FC but Orlando will be without midfield maestro Mauricio Pereyra (due to yellow card suspension). The Pride stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches, matching the club's second-longest such streak in its history. Orlando went on the road and beat Gotham FC 2-1 with new striker Ally Watt providing the margin of victory. The team has managed to crawl within a few points of the playoff line and if Seb Hines can continue to will his team on to a few more results, a disastrous start to the season will be long forgotten. Orlando's NWSL side also added a defender to the roster this week. Haley Hanson has joined the club to provide more depth to a Pride team that appears to have fewer holes now than when the season began. OCB played twice since our last show and managed to get two results, defeating Rochester New York FC and drawing Columbus Crew 2. The 5-2 win over Rochester was assisted by several first-team players and I'm not saying Tesho Akindele's goal for OCB led to his game winner on Sunday night, but I'm also not not saying it. The kids played against Crew 2 on the weekend and got a 2-2 home draw despite seeing two players sent off. This week's mailbag asked us to provide kickball walk-up music for several Orlando City players and we did just that. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we gave our key match-ups and predictions for Orlando City's upcoming match this Sunday night at home against New York City FC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 308 went down: 0:15 - The Lions got the season sweep over Charlotte with a win on the fake plastic grass of Bank of America Stadium. 33:54 - The Pride made it two straight wins by dispatching Gotham. 59:59 - We answer our mail and make our predictions for the Lions against NYCFC. Orlando City got smoked in Montreal like the meat they sell at the delis there. The Lions were never really in the 4-1 road loss, even when they cut the 2-0 deficit in half on Joao Moutinho's goal. The side was missing much more than center back Robin Jansson. It was lacking any kind of connectivity from back to front. As a result, the Lions attempted only two shots in the match — an even more dismal offensive output than in the home loss to New York. We break things down a bit and select our Man of the Match. We were much more pleased with Tuesday's result — a 2-1 home win over the Philadelphia Union in U.S. Open Cup action. The Lions had a lot more ability to break lines and shuttle the ball forward with Junior Urso, Andres Perea, and Alexandre Pato keeping Facundo Torres and Ercan Kara from getting too isolated. It wasn't a perfect outing. Many mistakes were made. However, it was a step in the right direction and hopefully one upon which Oscar Pareja can build. We selected our Man of the Match for the U.S. Open Cup win as well, and we were unanimous again. Two new Lions joined the team this week but only one will play in 2022. Jake Mulraney provides much-needed coverage on the wing, while future star Gaston Gonzalez will have to wait until 2023 to show us what he can do because of his unfortunate knee injury. The Orlando Pride traveled west and brought back Amanda Cromwell's first NWSL victory from Sunday's 1-0 road win at Angel City FC. Sydney Leroux's goal was just about enough and the Pride were fortunate not to pay for several misses that could have put the game out of reach before halftime. Orlando was easily the better side for the first half hour but things got a bit dicey over the last hour. When needed, Erin McLeod came up big. It's an important building block for the Pride. OCB was off for the second straight week. This week's mailbag asked about movies I haven't seen yet, how to rank the trophies from various MLS competitions, and who the Lions should want to play in the next round of the Open Cup. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. And we closed the show by giving our key match-ups and score predictions for Saturday's return to Canada as Orlando City visits Toronto FC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 294 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City had mixed results, bombing badly in MLS play and then performing well to advance in the Open Cup. 39:13 - The Pride were much better in the second week of the regular season against Angel City. 58:57 - The mailbag beckons and we have predictions for Saturday's match in Toronto. Orlando City got back in the win column at home on Saturday afternoon with a victory over the Chicago Fire. The Lions should have scored more goals, and we all would have enjoyed it more if they had, but in the end, the team is creating scoring opportunities and it seems only a matter of time before they start putting crooked numbers on the board more often — provided Orlando can continue to create those chances. Dave Rohe and I broke down the win over the Fire, the sending off that made things a little easier, and Ercan Kara's first career MLS goal. We also discussed Antonio Carlos' injury, Alexandre Pato making the Team of the Week bench, and our Man of the Match picks. We also talked about the upcoming U.S. Open Cup match-up against Tampa Bay, that game's move to Exploria Stadium, and why people really should put their money where their mouth is and get themselves to the stadium for this match. Joining us to give us the insider's view of the I-4 Derby is none other than club legend Miguel Gallardo. The Orlando City broadcast analyst and club ambassador returned to the show and talked about what the rivalry meant and whether the change of venues matters, and he even spoke a bit about this Saturday's match against the Columbus Crew. The Pride were off this past weekend but Gunny Jonsdottir fared well in international play and we have a new goal song we'd like the club to break out whenever she scores a goal for Orlando. OCB lost for the first time in 2022 and it wasn't all that pretty. And the USWNT dominated an obviously overmatched Uzbekistan — twice — despite playing a lot of younger players. This week's mailbag was interested in the English Premier League. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. And we closed the show by giving our key match-ups and score predictions for Saturday's match at the Columbus Crew. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 290 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City snapped its two-match home losing streak and got the first win by a Chicago Fire opponent this season. Plus, Alexandre Pato is good, Mauricio Pereyra is rounding into form, and people should attend the Lions' games. 35:12 - Miggy jumps on with us despite being out at the soccer pitch to do some coaching, and he provided a unique perspective of the old I-4 Derby rivalry. 54:05 - No Pride recap, but OCB played, as did the USWNT, plus our mailbag, and our predictions and key match-ups for the Crew on Saturday. Orlando City has probably not looked as fluid and dangerous in a game and still lost as it did on Saturday night when LAFC handed the Lions a 4-2 loss at home. Things didn't go as planned and that included a chalked off opening goal by Alexandre Pato, a serious-looking injury to Antonio Carlos, some defensive lapses that allowed the visitors to score on their scarce opportunities, and some big saves down the stretch from the opposing goalkeeper. The Lions deserved to take something from the game, but — much like Spaulding Smails on Caddyshack — they'll get nothing and like it. We break down the game, the goals, and the calls, and give our Man of the Match picks. The Pride lost both matches since our last show and, while they looked good in one of them, they looked mostly bad in the other. On top of that, they're dealing with the loss of Marta for the season, the loss of goalkeeper Erin McLeod for at least a month, and a team that is still not threatening opposing goalkeepers enough. We give our thoughts on where the Pride are, how they can best use this international break, and what we are expecting as the regular season approaches. OCB finished its home stand unbeaten and followed a 2-2 draw against New York City FC II on Sunday with the Young Lions' first ever postgame shootout victory, snaring an extra point in the standings in MLS NEXT Pro's experimental system. Jack Lynn again had a direct goal involvement and is getting valuable minutes with the reserve side. He may be needed by the MLS team at some point this season, so it's good to see him being active in the attack. The USMNT lost the battle in Costa Rica but won the World Cup qualifying war, by punching a ticket to Qatar this winter. It was an uphill battle with so many key injuries, but the Yanks got to where they need to be and now find themselves in a group that they are capable of getting out of if they play to their potential. This week's mailbag was interested in finding a nickname for Ercan Kara and goal celebrations. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. And we closed the show by giving our key match-ups and score predictions for Saturday's home match against the Chicago Fire. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 289 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City fell hard at home with a final score that doesn't tell the full story. But the Lions, like any team, can't make silly mistakes against a team with as good an attack as LAFC has. 32:20 - It's hard out here for a Pride fan. A good performance and a bad performance this past week yielded the same ultimate result. Will there be reinforcements coming to bolster the squad? Dare to dream, I say. 53:42 - OCB made it two results out of two matches, the USMNT accomplished its objective, we wade into our mailbag, and our predictions and key match-ups for the Fire on Saturday. Orlando City put the 2022 preseason to bed with a pair of results — a 2-2 draw vs. FC Cincinnati and a 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The Lions are in full preparation mode for Sunday's season opener against CF Montreal at Exploria Stadium. Before we get to that preview, we look back at the week's worth of news, including which draft picks were signed and which were released. We also close the book on the preseason slate and dive into our thoughts on Orlando City's new “Sunshine” kits. Hint: we like them. There was much more Pride news this week with the NWSL side kicking off its preseason with a 1-1 draw against UCF (and of course it was Sydney Leroux with the lone Orlando goal). The Pride also re-signed a couple of familiar faces last week and some of the team's stars are repping Orlando in international action. We discussed the SheBelieves Cup so far for the USWNT and the injuries on the men's side that will make World Cup qualifying even more difficult. This week's mailbag has our predicted finishing order in the Eastern and Western conferences. We also talked about craft beer and ranked the Sunshine kits. Here's how No. 283 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City started scoring goals as the preseason wound down but Designated Player striker Ercan Kara missed some valuable on-field time with his teammates. The attack scares us probably more than it does the opposition. Plus...how about those new away shirts? 24:38 - Actual Pride news this week! Meggie Dougherty Howard and Kaylie Collins re-signed and the Pride played a match. Plus, there's plenty of national team stuff to talk about as well. Heck, there's even some OCB news. 45:39 - The mailbag gets quite a bit of attention despite there being few questions and we have our first key match-ups and score predictions for the 2022 regular season. Orlando City got its 2022 preseason underway with a pair of matches within the past week and neither the results nor the injury news was what Lions fans were looking for. The club dropped its opener to Minnesota United — or was it the Chicago Fire? Nah, we're pretty sure it was the Loons — last Thursday and then fell 1-0 to FC Dallas on Saturday. The latter match had the added angst of seeing new Designated Player striker Ercan Kara helped off the field and unable to put any weight on one of his legs. The news wasn't dire on Monday, however, as the club announced that Kara is day to day with an ankle sprain. We don't know the severity or how much time he'll miss but it wasn't an ideal start to his time with Orlando City. Hopefully he's a quick healer and the injury wasn't as bad as it looked to those in attendance. Speaking of attendance, we hope to see you out at Orlando's next preseason match this Friday against Colorado. Facundo Torres arrived in town and there was a hot rumor to dissect to wrap up our coverage of the Lions this week. The Pride have their schedule and their group for the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup. Get ready for three home matches in the competition and hopefully Amanda Cromwell's side will surprise some folks and make the knockout stages this year. Cromwell teased an attacker signing this week so we'll be on the lookout for eyeball emojis from Ian Fleming. We also discussed the last USMNT qualifer in the most recent window — a really stupidly scheduled match in sub-freezing temperatures that saw only two of the opponents subbed off due to hypothermia. Hey, at least the Yanks won, but they could have done that in a much nicer climate. This week's mailbag asked about athletes becoming the targets of fan ire and abuse, musical choice limitations for life, and whether the Pride have an advantage with fewer internationals this season. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 281 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City got a pretty big scare with Ercan Kara and hopefully he'll be back quickly. Also, hopefully the Lions will start winning games soon. It's just the preseason, but winning is always better than not. 14:15 - The Pride know who, where, and when they'll play in the NWSL Challenge Cup and the coach says the team might be getting some offensive help soon. That's good, because Mia Fishel is off to a great start at Tigres. 31:18 - Our mailbag wants to torture us by limiting us to one musical artist/album/song for the rest of our lives. That's just cruel. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Orlando City officially signed Austrian striker Ercan Kara to a Designated Player contract. The new DP center forward will wear the No. 9 and fill that role for the Orlando attack after arriving on a three-year deal with two club option years. We're excited to welcome him to the fold and to have a replacement for Daryl Dike, and can't wait to see how he fits in with the group as the preseason progresses. The Lions also reversed their position on having all preseason scrimmages closed to the public. Orlando City is allowing fans to attend the Feb. 11 match against the Colorado Rapids. Season ticket holders can get four free tickets to the game and the general public can get in for $10. The match will be a good opportunity for fans to catch their first glimpse of the team and to help out the club's charitable endeavors. Most of the news from the previous week surrounds the 2022 Orlando Pride. The rebuilding is well underway and Pride GM Ian Fleming spent most of the last week signing players from the club's last two draft classes. Amanda Cromwell has also completed her coaching staff with the hiring of Aline Villares Reis as goalkeeping coach. But that's not all! The Pride also made a couple of trades, sending fullback Ali Riley to Los Angeles and Marisa Viggiano to Houston. In return, the Pride added some Allocation Money, a couple of third-round draft picks for 2023, and a center back. Megan Montefusco joins Orlando and should fulfill one of the club's biggest needs in central defense. The Pride also signed English goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse, who has played for some big clubs across the pond. This is likely not all the Pride will do before the season arrives. The United States Men's National Team was in action twice since our last show and things didn't go as well as any of us would have liked. The USMNT got a tougher-than-expected win over El Salvador but then flopped in the icy wastes of Canada in World Cup qualifying. The Stars & Stripes have one more hurdle in this window and must beat Honduras in the just-as-icy wastes of Minnesota this week. This week's mailbag wants to know about movies featuring actors who played Batman, how certain players might fit in with Orlando City, and our takes on a snoman photo. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 280 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City adds a Designated Player, opens up a preseason match, and appears to be more than willing to engage with fans in order to improve their experience. 29:15 - The Pride have been exceedingly busy with signings, trades, and additions to the staff. We do our best to remember all of them. Plus, the USMNT just isn't that good right now but what if they're built for what comes after Concacaf rather than for qualifying? 1:02:34 - Our mailbag makes us come up with American Gladiator names for each other and we get to name drop some of our favorite movies. Orlando City had a busy week off the pitch even as the Lions were getting down to business in preseason training. The long-awaited signing of winger Facundo Torres became official this week but fans will need to wait a little longer for him to arrive after the international window. Torres signed as a Young Designated Player and will be expected to make a big impact in 2022. The wing position also got a departure this week as news broke out of Ecuador that Alexander Alvarado will go on loan to LDU in Quito. Orlando hasn't made that official but the Ecuadorian club announced that there's also a purchase option. Austrian striker Ercan Kara seems the likeliest next move to get over the finish line as reports had him headed to the U.S. for his physical as of yesterday. If Orlando City can complete the transaction, the Lions will have their replacements for both Nani and Daryl Dike, with a potential Gaston Gonzalez addition in May providing coverage for the departed Chris Mueller. The Lions are getting younger and could be a hungrier team for the 2022 season. Finally, the Lions did a little roster compliance housekeeping by acquiring an international roster slot from Montreal for some General Allocation Money and a draft pick. And young Lions Michael Halliday and Thomas Williams got a call-up to the U-20 USMNT. We break down all the Orlando City news and talk about what could be coming next. The Pride added three assistant coaches and now only need to replace departed goalkeeping coach Lloyd Yaxley. One of those assistants is USWNT legend Michelle Akers. We discuss the new staff and boy are we ready for some Orlando Pride signings. Exploria Stadium will again host a USMNT World Cup qualifier against Panama. We discuss that news and take a quick look at the upcoming FIFA window, which is a pivotal — and probably cold — one for the United States. This week's mailbag wants to know if Orlando City's technical staff are playing FIFA, whether sponsorship garlic can keep the monsters at bay, and whether a former Lion killer would make a good Lion.
