Winning the Week Without the Hustle Culture featuring Demir Bentley

In this episode, I sit down with Demir Bentley — Wall Street analyst turned productivity coach, co-founder of Life Hack Method, author of Winning the Week, and dad of three daughters under six. This one goes deep on two things most dads desperately need: a better system for planning their week, and a real conversation about what it means to raise confident, loved daughters. Demir opens up about his time on Wall Street — 80 to 100 hour weeks, a hustle culture identity so baked in he didn't know who he was without it — and the health crisis that forced him to change everything. His digestive system began shutting down, he required three surgeries, and his doctors told him to cut his hours below 40 or face serious consequences. That pressure produced the Winning the Week method — a simple, three-pillar planning framework that helped him get the same work done in a fraction of the time. We break down exactly how to run a real planning session — a calendar interrogation, not a calendar review — and why your calendar is lying to you right now. We get into why planning on Friday instead of Sunday is a game changer, what open loops are doing to your brain on the weekend, and how sharing the mental load with your wife is one of the most important leadership moves a man can make at home. And then Demir drops one of the most memorable parenting concepts this show has ever heard: the idea of being the Keeper of Vibes — not just the lowest heartbeat in the room, but the painter of the energy canvas your family lives inside every day.   Timeline Summary [0:00] Introduction to the Dad Edge mission and the movement to raise leaders of families and communities [1:02] Introducing Demir Bentley — Wall Street to lifestyle design, productivity coach, dad of three daughters [3:38] Freedom as a core value — and why Demir's shirt and hair are a statement, not an accident [5:00] Being a girl dad — and Larry's experience running a daddy daughter retreat with men who had never lit up like that before [8:33] Demir's slow start to fatherhood — and why a phone call from a friend before his first daughter was born may have saved him [10:44] What Winning the Week is — and where it came from [11:04] Wall Street, hustle culture, and the religion of outworking the competition [13:30] The health crisis that changed everything — salaryman sudden death syndrome, three surgeries, and a doctor telling him to cut his hours in half [14:36] Who am I if I'm not the guy who works 100 hours a week — the identity crisis behind the health crisis [20:22] How the Winning the Week method was born out of raw necessity [23:31] Pillar one — the calendar interrogation: your calendar is lying to you and here's how to catch it [26:47] Pillar two — real prioritizing: if there's no tear in your eye when you're cutting things, you're not cutting enough [27:27] Pillar three — the task list: stop hiding your commitments and start owning your time supply [28:53] Marrying the tasks to the calendar — the test fit that tells you if you have 10 pounds of priorities in a 5 pound bag [31:06] Start from the top down — your values first, then your calendar, then your priorities [31:28] The number one complaint wives have about their husbands — and how planning fixes it [33:06] Sharing the mental load and invisible labor — the new definition of leadership at home [36:35] Leading by example: how planning together on Friday beats planning together Sunday night [37:18] The team huddle — how Demir and his wife plan separately then align on a walk together [39:24] Why good planning still produces anxiety — and why meeting after the sigh changes everything [42:49] Why your brain won't let go of the weekend — open loops, unfinished sentences, and the science behind Sunday dread [44:35] Why planning on Friday instead of Sunday gives you your whole weekend back [46:39] Switching gears to daughters — what it really means to raise strong, confident girls [47:10] The Keeper of Vibes — Demir's most important role as a dad and the canvas he's painting every single day [49:47] Be the thermostat, not the thermometer — and what it means to hold the energy space for your whole family   Five Key Takeaways Your calendar is lying to you. Every meeting, every drive, every task takes longer than you think. A real planning session is a calendar interrogation — sweat every entry until it's honest. Real prioritizing hurts. If you're not cutting things that matter to you, you're not prioritizing — you're just rearranging. The hard tradeoffs are the whole point. Open loops kill your weekends. When you leave Friday without closing the week, your brain keeps the loop running — on date night, on the couch, in the middle of the night. Plan on Friday and actually rest. Sharing the mental load is modern leadership. Your wife shouldn't be the only one holding the calendar of family life. Taking full ownership of even one domain — sports, appointments, whatever — changes the entire dynamic at home. Be the Keeper of Vibes. You are not just the lowest heartbeat in the room. You are the painter of the energy canvas your family lives inside. What are you painting every day?   Links & Resources Roommates to Soulmates Cohort & Preview Call: https://thedadedge.com/soulmates The Men's Forge: https://themensforge.com Dad Edge Business Boardroom: https://thedadedge.com/mastermind Winning the Week by Demir Bentley: https://winningtheweek.com Life Hack Method Website: https://lifehackmethod.com Life Hack Method Free Training: https://lifehackmethod.com Follow Demir on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lifehackmethod_/ Follow Demir on Facebook: https://web.facebook.com/demirandcarey/ Follow Demir on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/demirbentley/ Life Hack Method on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/LifehackBootcamp Episode Link & Resources (Episode 1461): https://thedadedge.com/1461   Closing If there's one message from this episode that stands out, it's this: you cannot lead what you don't plan, and you cannot be present for the people you love if your brain is still stuck in last week. Demir went from 100 hour weeks and a body that was shutting down to building a life centered on freedom, family, and intention. The method isn't complicated. The calendar interrogation, the real prioritization, the task fit — it's thirty minutes on a Friday that gives you your whole life back. And then there's the canvas. What energy are you painting into your home every single day? Because your kids and your wife are living inside that painting whether you're intentional about it or not. Go out and live legendary.

Goals don't fail for lack of ambition; they stall when a full calendar meets fuzzy priorities. We sat down with productivity expert Demir Bentley, co-founder of Life Hack Method and author of Winning the Week, to unpack a simple practice that changes everything: a consistent weekly planning ritual. Demir's premise is refreshingly real—planning is boring, but freedom lives on the other side. When you trade a short burst of discomfort on Friday for a clear, calendarized plan, you get a calmer weekend and a Monday that runs on rails.DCWe explore what elite success really looks like through Demir's Rubik's Cube lens—solving multiple sides of life well enough to be proud across business, health, family, and finances. From there, we move into the core sequence that turns intention into execution: review your wins and losses, extract a lesson, scan the calendar to defuse landmines, set a few big rocks using the Eisenhower matrix, pick one gold star action, then open your task list and schedule the work. We dig into why most people avoid planning despite believing in it, how discipline creates freedom, and why Friday afternoon or early Saturday morning is the best window to plan and actually rest.Demir also shares how top-down clarity changes the game. Build a simple life map for the year so your weekly choices align with leveraged outcomes, not just urgent demands. We talk about using AI to sort tasks when it understands your priorities, choosing needs before wants, and pulling the levers that compound—systems, assets, and decisions that make future work easier or unnecessary. In tough markets, push where the ball will move: operations, profitability, retention, or even your health. If you're ready to replace overwhelm with clarity and turn goals into real results, this conversation gives you the playbook. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs less stress and more leverage, and leave a review telling us your gold star action for next week. In this podcast you will learn about:• Defining elite success across all sides of life• Accepting time limits and designing the week with purpose• Discipline creates freedom through a weekly ritual• Why most people know planning helps but still avoid it• When to plan and how to protect weekend rest• A step-by-step process for wins, lessons, priorities, tasks• Building a life map for top-down clarity• Choosing leverage, needs before wants, and systems• Playing the long game through operations and retention• Habits for couples to sync logistics and reduce stressHighlights:0:00Why Weekly Planning Matters1:18Show Open And Guest Intro2:06Defining Elite Success6:11Time Limits And The Rubik's Cube7:36Discipline, Freedom, And Planning10:41The One Thing: Plan Your Week12:04The Planning Gap And Why It Exists14:34Friday...

Productivity is one of those words that can feel exhausting, especially if you're a therapist juggling sessions, admin, and maybe even travel or changing time zones. In this episode of The Traveling Therapist Podcast, I sit down with Demir Bentley to talk about why productivity actually starts with planning, and why skipping this step is one of the biggest reasons therapists burn out.We talk specifically about what this looks like for traveling therapists and location-flexible clinicians who are seeing clients across time zones, working from new environments, and trying to build a sustainable life while still doing meaningful work. Demir breaks down why tools and AI alone are not the answer, and how a simple weekly planning practice can completely change how your work and life feel. If you've ever felt like you're doing all the right things but still exhausted, this conversation will hit home.In This Episode, We Explore…Why productivity is really about freedom, not hustle culture. How traveling and changing locations can quietly drain your energy and focus. The importance of weekly planning as a foundation, not an add-on.Why tools and AI only work when you have a clear framework first. How planning helps therapists avoid burnout and reclaim time and mental space.Connect with Demir:Website http://winningtheweek.comFacebook https://web.facebook.com/demirandcarey/Instagram https://www.instagram.com/lifehackmethod_/LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/demirbentley/YouTube http://www.youtube.com/c/LifehackBootcampLifehack Method https://lifehackmethod.com/_____________________Are you ready to take the plunge and become a Traveling Therapist? In this episode of the Root Cause Medicine Podcast, Dr. Kate Kresge is joined by Dr. Jessica Christie, a licensed naturopathic doctor, clinical nutritionist, and integrative fertility expert, to discuss a diagnosis that frustrates both patients and practitioners: unexplained infertility. Dr. Christie explains that “unexplained” can sometimes mean “we haven't found the root cause yet,” and she walks us through six of the most common hidden causes of fertility struggles—from subclinical hypothyroidism and nutrient deficiencies to autoimmune markers and environmental toxin exposure. Whether you're a patient searching for answers or a practitioner looking for a more complete workup, this conversation offers evidence-based strategies, powerful case examples, and a hopeful message: unexplained doesn't mean unsolvable. You'll hear them discuss: - Why “unexplained infertility” is a diagnosis of exclusion—and what it often misses (Abdallah et al., 2020) - Six common, often-overlooked root-cause contributors to fertility struggles - How research links subclinical hypothyroidism with IVF success rates (Cho et al., 2015) - The immune markers linked to miscarriage and implantation failure (Demir et al., 2009; Shahbazi et al., 2019; Sauer et al., 2010; Jalilvand et al., 2023; Edassery et al., 2010) - Why gut and vaginal dysbiosis matter for egg quality and implantation (Patel et al., 2022; Tersigni et al., 2014; Blancafort & Llácer, 2023) - The micronutrients most essential for fertility—and most commonly deficient (Skoracka et al., 2021; Ji et al., 2023) - How to approach detoxing safely when trying to conceive (Jain & Singh, 2022; Pizzorno, 2017; NCCIH, 2019) - Real patient stories that show what's possible with root-cause medicine

In today's episode, I'm joined by executive productivity coach and WSJ bestselling author, Demir Bentley. We dive deep into hustle culture, burnout, and how to truly win your week. You'll learn how working less (yes, really) can lead to more sustainable success, especially if you're building a service-based business. Demir shares the exact steps he used to transition from burnout to balance while growing a thriving business. We discuss why most people don't plan their week effectively and what you can do about it. Demir shares his full “Winning the Week” method and we explore how strategy, intentionality, and sustainable planning create space for the kind of business and life you actually want. If you're looking to grow your business without burning out, this episode is for you.Guest IntroductionDemir Bentley is a top executive productivity coach and the co-founder of Life Hack Method. He's the Wall Street Journal bestselling author of Winning the Week and helps high-performing entrepreneurs and coaches work less while achieving more. After experiencing burnout in his former high-stakes Wall Street career, Demir completely transformed how he worked—and now he helps others do the same. He's guided thousands of entrepreneurs to build high-performance habits without sacrificing their health or happiness. His systems are especially powerful for entrepreneurs who are scaling their businesses while navigating the complexities of time, energy, and output. The Lie of Hustle Culture—and What Actually Works - Key TakeawaysHustle culture is not the answer—it's the problem. Real success isn't about more hours, it's about more leverage and intention. Demir's story is a powerful reminder that sustainability is the key to high performance. Burnout is not required for building a successful business—it's a red flag.Planning your week is your number one productivity superpower, especially as a business owner managing both client work and business growth. If you're not hitting all the necessary “bases” in your weekly planning, you're already behind. The right planning system creates consistency, energy, and momentum that fuels long-term growth. The Real Root of BurnoutBurnout isn't just about a busy calendar—it's about a broken belief system. As entrepreneurs, we often feel pressure to equate effort with value. But the truth is, working smarter—not harder—is the real game-changer. Hustle culture is built on outdated myths about worth, productivity, and success.Social media glorifies hustle and overwork, especially in the online business world. But Demir's approach is a fresh, empowering alternative—one that allows business owners to scale with clarity instead of chaos. The Biggest Misconception About Hustle CultureMany entrepreneurs believe they can simply outwork the competition. But at what cost? If you want to build a business you'll sustain for 10, 20, or 30 years, the hustle model isn't the answer. Most people burn out right before they begin reaping the benefits of their hard-earned momentum. This conversation reframes the hustle: sustainability isn't optional—it's essential. If you want to scale your business while protecting your energy and creativity, working fewer but more intentional hours is the way forward. The Solution: The Winning the Week MethodMost entrepreneurs only plan their week partially—they focus on client calls or content creation but miss deeper strategy work. Demir's Winning the Week method is all about creating a repeatable weekly system that hits every area of your life and business. When Demir implemented this method, he cut his workweek in half—from 90 hours to just over 40—without losing momentum. This isn't about doing less; it's about planning better. That mindset shift is business owners juggling business growth, marketing, and client delivery. The 6 Steps to...
