What an episode to kick off this podcast with. If being the VP of Soccer Operations at an MLS Supporters' Shield winning club wasn't a cool enough job already, try being employee #1 for said club. That's the story of FC Cincinnati's Dan McNally, who has gone from being the person tasked with purchasing the first bag of cones and balls for a non-existent squad, to the proven-leader given the honor to spearhead the construction and operations of a $250M stadium that consistently sells out its 25,000+ seats.Starting with leaving his home country of England as a teen for college soccer across the pond, Dan's story is one for the history books of U.S. soccer. Before this week's show gets underway, we've got some announcements to make and we are pretty pumped up about them all. There is our fundraiser to launch our independence, obviously, which has us all extremely emotional and thankful. To that end, we began the long process of giving out our shout-outs to our brand new Founders. It's going to take a few shows to get them all in! If you were part of this week's, it means we don't have any way to contact you to get your benefits to you, so please email us. Then there are some podcast-specific announcements that we feel will make everyone's experience more enjoyable. We hope you like what's coming! Now, on to why you're here... Orlando City has played to two consecutive scoreless draws and the two results felt quite different from each other. The Lions survived squad rotation against a good FC Cincinnati side last weekend in league play and survived Tigres in Concacaf Champions League play on Tuesday night in Mexico. We analyze the two matches and make our Man of the Match selections for both games. After our conversation about two straight 0-0 draws, Orlando Pride Vice President of Soccer Operations and General Manager Haley Carter jumps on with us to talk about the job she's been hired to do. Among the things she shared with us is a huge tease about the summer transfer window, but alas...no specifics yet. Carter obviously has a lot of belief in Pride Head Coach Seb Hines and in strengthening the club through development at every level. After our discussion with Carter, there was news from the Pride side about the team's latest preseason win, the signing of draft picks Messiah Bright and Summer Yates, and a minor schedule change. We dipped into a full mailbag this week to discuss Ercan Kara, the AFC Richmond players we'd want to suit up for Orlando City, and more. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we looked ahead to Saturday night's showdown at D.C. United, with key match-ups and predictions, and we're extremely amped about next Wednesday's rematch with Tigres. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 329 went down: 0:15 - Celebrating a shutout win for the second straight year and yet another opening day result for the Lions. Also celebrating a potential new deal for Torres. 36:09 - Haley Carter joins us to talk about her task of turning the Pride around, her thoughts on the current roster, and maybe a surprise is coming? 57:15 - The Pride won another preseason game and signed two more draft picks ahead of the 2023 season. 1:04:46 - Things we love: the mailbagbox, 5-star reviews on Apple Podcasts, and making predictions that will probably turn out to be horribly wrong. Season 2 Episode 16. In this episode, I chat with Sam Etherington, Director of Soccer Operations for the LSU Women's Soccer team. Sam was born and raised in Newcastle, England and her soccer journey to the United States if full of many curves ... each one leading the next and Sam shares the many lessons she learned along the way. Sam has an awesome energy about her as she chats about her family and her days growing up in Newcastle and as a fan of Newcastle FC. Her journey brought her to the U.S., where she played her college soccer at Nicholls State University. But, what's fun about this transition to American student athlete was the connections that she had made in England that helped her to arrive at Nicholls. And then there were more connections that helped propel her to coaching stints at the University of Dubuque (Graduate Assistant), Louisiana College (Head Coach), and Idaho State University (Assistant Coach). Sam's recollection of being a coach in Iowa at Dubuque, and her first ever spell as a head coach at Louisiana, to ending up in Idaho during the pandemic are full of great stories and lessons learned ... and the power of developing coaching relationships and connections! She is very open about her experiences and gives a great glimpse into her time at those stops. The state of Louisiana is "home" for Sam now. And she spoke about that in this episode. She talks about the staff at LSU and how much she is enjoying coaching and being a part of the program. There is so many amazing nuggets in this episode. Thanks to Sam for joining the podcast! Midfielder Desiree Scott's motto in life is “if you love what you're doing and you're willing to work, the sky is the limit.” Known as “The Destroyer,” to many on the pitch, Scott's work ethic has propelled her to stardom over the years. A Manitoba grown athlete, she chose to stay home for university, helping the newly-formed U of M soccer team to its best-ever record in 2007 while being named a conference all-star four times. In 2010, Scott debuted for Team Canada's senior national team. Just two years later, she helped the squad win a bronze medal at the Olympics, repeating the feat four years later. Throughout the process, she stayed level, focusing on visualization and doing the little things right to succeed. “I visualize myself making the first big tackle and connecting with my passes. Just the simple things. My game is very simple. If I do the little things well, the rest will come.” Scott continues to show out for the middle province to this day. She's helping develop the next generation of student athletes as the Director of Soccer Operations for Pro Prep Academy, a role she has immense pride in. “To lay my hand on the soccer landscape is a no-brainer. To do it with like-minded people, I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity.”

Rosie Kays joined the Fighting Tiger coaching staff before the start of the 2017 soccer season. In her first three years as the women's soccer head coach, Kays has concentrated on building a solid foundation to ensure long term success through excellent recruiting classes that aren't just talented on the soccer field, but also in the classroom. Besides being the women's soccer head coach, Coach Kays has worn multiple hats around the athletic department. For a short time, she served as the Director of Campus Recreation and had a major hand in jump starting the campuses intramural leagues. Now, one of the hats she wears within the athletic department is the Student-Athlete Affairs Administrator. As an administrator, she oversees all the members of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), ensuring that student-athletes have a voice on important topics and that their voices are heard. She is also Cobleskill's Summer Camp Coordinator for all Fighting Tiger camps. On the soccer field, Coach Kays has experienced one of the best turnarounds in the country. After going 0-17 during the 2017 season, she brought in her first recruiting class and saw an instant change. The next season they improved their win total by six games and went 6-11 on the year. On top of having one of the best turnarounds at the Division III level, she also had three players named to the Third Team All-Conference team. Kays came to Cobleskill in 2017 after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater Neumann University. In 2016, she helped the Knights post a 9-9-1 overall record including a 6-4-1 mark in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play, a significant improvement over the 2015 campaign that saw the team finish 3-13-1 with a 3-8 conference record. During her coaching career, Kays has also served as Big East Conference member Villanova University's Director of Soccer Operations during 2016. Before pursuing a coaching career, Kays earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Sport & Entertainment Management from Neumann University. While she was there, she was a four-year member of the women's soccer team and a four-time selection to the CSAC All-Academic Team during her playing career. She later earned her Master of Science Degree in Sport Business from Temple University while serving as Neumann's volunteer assistant coach. She was later promoted and named the first assistant for her excellent work. Kays also has her United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Class D, E and F coaching licenses. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/athleteevolved/support

COG STUDIOS, Calif. -- It's not every Monday that you can wake up and immediately have a panic attack over your favorite Galaxy player posting something very cryptic on Instagram. But that's what happened on this Monday and we're glad we can bring you some news on the entire, very strange, situation. Your hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter are back with another offseason update. And just like all their previous updates, it starts with the Galaxy not having announced either a General Manager or a head coach. But something different is in the air this time and the guys want to tell you why it seems that all signs are pointing to Dennis te Kloese as the Galaxy next head of Soccer Operations. But without an official announcement, is it too soon to say that te Kloese already has his fingerprints over this team? And even if the Galaxy make an immediate announcement, how long until the club can announce a head coach? Does the timing worry anyone? The Galaxy seem to be getting the right guy for the job but te Kloese now seems like he's going to have a bit of a monumental task to organize the Galaxy's offseason and find a complete coaching staff before the club must report for the preseason. Josh and Kevin will get you updated on the Galaxy losing a goalkeeping coach and they'll talk about the impending deadline to get ready for the half-day trade window, as well as the 2018 Expansion Draft. The Galaxy need to start protecting players, as December 11th creeps closer. Finally, the guys give you another interesting Alumni incident -- this time complete with assault rifles -- and talk about the XFL coming to StubHub center. It's a packed show even as Kevin slowly drives back from the airport! Music Provided by Back Pocket Memory

COG STUDIOS, Calif -- The LA Galaxy made an announcement this week taking the General Manager title away from Pete Vagenas and reinstating him as the club's Vice President of Soccer Operations. By doing that they also gave Sigi Schmid complete control over player personnel decisions. Did the musical chairs help the Galaxy? Who is the actual GM now? Did the club hold themselves accountable to the fans or their players? Your hosts Josh Guesman and Larry Morgan discuss what these decisions mean for the Galaxy in the near term and what this might also mean down the road. The guys will start by talking about Schmid's new role with the Galaxy. What type of team will he build and what does this mean for the Galaxy's focus on going "younger?" And maybe it's just us, but it seems like the club has quietly shifted their overall story when it comes to using their academy. Does Schmid mean to take this team in the opposite direction? Will getting older help the Galaxy? Next Josh and Larry discuss the effect Vagenas has had on this team. What have the decision makers done to this team going back a few years and why are they still there if this season was such a miserable disaster? Does the front office owe the fans an explanation? Finally, they'll take a look at the remaining Galaxy news. Who ended up with the end of the year awards? And why you shouldn't listen to anyone who didn't vote for these two guys! It's another show where we're talking about the Galaxy's offseason priorities while other teams battle in the playoffs. Music Provided by Back Pocket Memory

It's part of the foundation of this podcast to poke fun at ourselves and where we are from, the so-called 'Black Hole of Soccer' i.e. the prairies. And although it may seem that there's not a lot going on, look closer and you'll find that you're so wrong. That's why we have decided to do a series on some of the things that are happening in our home province of Saskatchewan. The number of podcasts will be determined by how many people we can sweet-talk into joining us for a conversation and the timing of the podcasts will be determined largely by their schedules. First up is the Saskatchewan Soccer Association's Director of Soccer Operations, Dave Nutt. Dave updates us on the progress of a Prairie High Performance League, possible partnerships with neighbouring provinces and changes to players' developmental pathway in Saskatchewan.
Mark Simpson is currently the Director of Soccer Operations for NASL side Virginia Cavalry FC. He was also an assistant coach at D.C. United as well as an MLS Cup-winning goalkeeper for the Black-and-Red. We ask him about his new team and role.
