Good evening friends, welcome to the podcast of various electronic arts back here at the "ESOA Podcast". Today with a great artist from Iceland, Ohm is my guest today. And once again I'm very happy about that, because this is another exceptional artist who can look back on a long musical history. He has been active since the 90s and can therefore look back on a lot of creativity not only as a DJ but also as a producer. First success came very quickly in the course of his debut, which he released in collaboration with another Icelandic legend EXOS on one of the most inspiring techno labels of the past, here we are talking about "Force Inc". Over the years, many more releases piled up on renowned labels such as Thule Records, Rawax, Kontakt, Solid Groove, Taped Artifact, Ranges, Vade mecum , Vuo records and AE Recordings, as well as AE recordings Ltd, which he runs together with Octal Industries and Thor from Thule Records. Currently he also runs his own label "OHM Series". Ohm now lives in Copenhagen and plays the "Culture Box" here quite often, but you can also see and hear him play all over Europe, if not all over the world. He also runs two shows on the online platform Timeline Musik where he presents Danish artists on the one hand and promos from his friends on the other. He himself calls his sound tried and tested and visionary, and I'm happy to let that stand. For me he is clearly an artist of Dub Techno. Ok here is ESOA podcast number 041 by OHM. @exos is one of the most experienced techno artists from Iceland since the mid-nineties. He has made a multitude of releases throughout the years, along with his 4th album in 2020. His debut appeared in 1997 with his first Ep on the legendary dub-influenced label @thule-records, which is known for its rare signature minimal sound. His third album, ‘My Home is Sonic’, was reissued in 2015 by Dutch mainstay, @delsinrecords. It is lauded as a classic of modern dub techno and was voted album of the year 2001 by “mbl.is“, one of most prominent newspaper sources in Iceland. Surging back to the forefront starting in 2013 based on critical reevaluation of his catalog, he used this as a fulcrum to renew his already-storied career with new material and reissues of lost classics on @triprecordings by @nina-kraviz. He opened the @xozmusic label for the versatility of the deeper spectrum while launching @planetxsociety for the harder versions of @exos. This versatility of style and sensitivity both in the studio and onstage are key to his enduring appeal, as he possesses an innate ability to go from the most experimental compositions to the most elegant sound waves, always keeping with a very particular sense of harmony in one of the highest examples of total destruction of endless rawness. Released on such labels: @triprecordings, @planetxsociety, @figure-official, @thule-records, @delsinrecords, @berg_audio, Mosaic by @stephenos1, Force Inc., Symbolism by @ben-sims and others. Stay Rave more than ever with #R13!

Today we have a very special NY gift with some unreleased tracks. DJ and producer Bjarnar Jonsson aka Ohm (@ohm-599575574) is one of the leading figures in the Icelandic contemporary techno scene. Widely associated with iconic labels such as @thule-records, @achim-szepanski, @rawax-chiwax-housewax, @luckofaccess , @tapedartifact, @kontacthelsinki and @allinnrecords ! Ohm stays true to his roots by consistently innovating his interpretation of techno music, intergrating soul and innovation with the scene. The #Copenhagen - based artist was born and raised in #Reykjavik, #Iceland, and caught the music bug early on. In 1999 his debut release, a collaboration with the Icelandic techno legend @exos, was released on Force Inc and was critically acclaimed. Since then he has been a constant source of techno anthems – most recently releasing his works on Thule Records, Rawax,Taped artifact, AE records, @xozmusic, @solid-groove-records and Kontakt records – and working with veterans such as @octalindustries and his long time collaborator @exos, and now recently with @kvadrant, label boss of Kontakt records and host of the legendary Tweak fm shows. He has been a regular guest at the legendary techno club Culture Box in Copenhagen – alongside frequently performing in his native country. Because of Ohm’s unique style, it’s hard to label his music but you can definitely hear influences from Detroit tunes, dub and of course classic minimal techno. He tries hard not to be limited to any specific formulas and manages in that way to successfully create his own distinctive sound. Constantly evolving his production skills and questioning the things around him. Ohm seeks to inspire his listeners with sounds both reduced and rough, balanced by emotional and surprising moments throughout his sets. Between pure techno, banging dub techno tracks, tracks old and new, Ohm communicates his message with an apparent effortlessness. Happy New Year and Stay Rave with #R13!

For the 109th Avenue Red Podcast we welcome Bjarnar Jónsson AKA OHM from Copenhagen in Denmark. Originally from Reykjavik, Iceland, Bjarnar is a musical peer of Exos, the man behind one of our most legendary episodes, 016 (https://soundcloud.com/avenue-red/podcast-016-exos). The OHM discography stretches back to year 2000 with his debut release being on Force Inc. Music Works, the Sameining EP produced alongside Exos. He then appeared on Thule sister-label Tissju with 2 EP's both released in 2001, again both joint releases with Exos. Then, 15 years later he sprang back up with the mind-blowing Sedna EP on Thule alongside Octal Industries, one which we have played to death. Since then he has been behind 4 more records too, with the latest one having just been released on Taped Artifact, again as Ohm & Octal Industries. The quality and style of his productions match nicely with his DJ'ing. We asked for him to dig into his record collection for this one. The resulting mix is a seriously deep, dubby onslaught of trippy, glacial, illuminous house & techno vibes. Ideal for our headphone purposes here at Avenue Red. "I have been a fan of this podcast series for a long time. It has helped me to get connected with loads of underground music people who have a similar frame of mind, so I am super happy to be asked to make this one for Avenue Red. It is rare that I play out from my vinyl collection, so this was the best piece of homework I had for a while. Hope you enjoy the trip!" On this week’s podcast: An exclusive live mix by Gez Varley aka G-Man of seminal rave/bleep techno pioneers LFO. Gerrard "Gez" Varley is a British electronic musician and DJ, who was member of LFO during the 1990s and later released his solo works under the moniker G-Man. Varley founded LFO in 1990 with Mark Bell, whom he had known since 1984. Their first release LFO was released by Warp Records in 1990 and reached the British single charts. During the mid-1990s Varley focused on his solo productions. His debut album Kushti was released in 1996 as G-Man. In the same year Varley left LFO. He released on his own imprint G Records as well as on the German labels Studio K7 and Force Inc. Music Works. In 1999 Varley moved to Wiesbaden, Germany.[1][2] In 2000 he founded the label GMR Records. Varley and Bell met while studying at Leeds and gave their first track, the eponymous "LFO", to Nightmares on Wax. The popularity of the demo in clubs led to the track being released by the Sheffield-based Warp Records in 1990, and it was a Top 20 hit in the U.K., reaching number 12 in the singles charts in July. Their follow-up single, "We Are Back", was released in the summer of 1991. DJ Martin (Martin Williams) is credited as a cowriter and coproducer of the track "LFO" but was not a member of the group.[2] Mark Bell explains: "We gave a tape of our recordings to DJ Martin who helped loads with arranging our tracks so it'd work on the dancefloor. We'd just been messing around with drum machines since we were like thirteen, tapping away at them like they were arcade games, making tapes to play our mates at school. Anyway, DJ Martin would play our cassettes in his sets and people would go mental - in a good way - cos they were totally raw."[3] Later signed to Tommy Boy Records in the U.S., the duo remixed Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock", as well as songs from Björk, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, Laurent Garnier, and The Sabres of Paradise. A real nice hook up from the good people over at Kling Klong Records, with Jaymo & Andy George taking over the latest episode of SlimCast. A quick look through the shelves of J&AG's studio reveals a 15 year obsession with electronic music; from King Street, Locked On, Force Inc and Roule to Robsoul, Kompakt, 20:20 and City Rockers - it's a nostalgic documentation of their transition from bedroom DJ's to two of the scene's most dedicated players. Their Moda Black record label has become one of the UK's most acclaimed imprints, gaining worldwide notoriety for releasing high quality, interesting and forward-thinking electronic music. With a strong focus on emerging artists, the label's back-catalogue spans from Hot Since 82, Mia Dora and Danny Daze to Tim Green, Eats Everything and Groove Armada. As producers in their own right, Jaymo & Andy George have remixed for Pets, OFF Recordings, Defected and Gomma, whilst focusing on Moda Black for their original music. Tracks such as 'Remember', 'Guess Who' and 'Tales From The Basement' have achieved widespread support from the likes of Catz n Dogz, Scuba, Pete Tong and many more. Their obsessive approach to finding new music has lead to numerous radio appearances, from their much praised Essential Mix in May 2013 to taking-over Pete Tong's BBC Radio 1 show on numerous occasions. The boys also present a weekly show on America's leading dance music station Evolution. With the Moda Black Album now in its third year, the recently launched Little Black Book series, their soon-to-launch Futurists project, monthly EP releases, We Love… Space, Ibiza residency and pan-European Moda Black parties, it's safe to say Jaymo & Andy George are busy boys right now. 16 isn't a particularly special number. But this is a particularly special installment! From Reykjavik, Iceland - the world's northernmost capital dubbed as "The Worlds Biggest Little Metropolis" as the city holds two thirds of the Icelandic population - we present Exos (real name Arnviður Snorrason), a unique and creative techno innovator who has become well-known for his uber-quality releases on respected labels such as Force Inc. Music Works, Mosaic, Symbolism and also Thule Records, a cult-status Icelandic techno label that has been recently reincarnated under a new name, Strobelight Network. This 75-minute vinyl mix is the product of a great deal of care and attention. As per usual we asked Exos to dig deep in his collection to come up with something truly special and what we have here is a treasure trove of techno gems and lost oddities that are deep, dubby, blissful, melodic, bold, strange and at times completely "far-out" (Iceland style!). We are pleased that he has paid some homage to the music that has originated from his Icelandic peers as we have records here from his friends Yagya (Aðalsteinn Guðmundsson), Thor (Þórhallur Skúlason) and also his father who is known as Octal (Snorri Arnarson). As we were digging through the submitted tracklist to normalise it to our usual format and resolution of detail, we realised that the collective value of all these records is in the region of £1000+ on current discogs prices. But musically, end-product-wise, this mix is much greater than the sum of it's parts thanks to the wizardry of Exos on the decks and we are glad to deliver something priceless that you can download for free. These incredible records... they are in good hands already. "In my life, I am experiencing a touch of timeless awareness. The time is speeding up, I am confusing time and there is something happening to the "Now" as I understand it. That is something that I try to explain in this mix. Music from different directions from here to there. It's also a Spring-time soundtrack for my favorite time of the year when April, May and June hits their magic with sunshine, lollipops and rainbows. от T'N'I. DJ Tonka - "Don't Be Afraid (To Let Yourself Go)", ставший позже хитом номер один в German Dance Charts и удерживал эту позицию в течение шести месяцев.Своим любимым звучанием Tonka считает Italo-Disco 80-х и Piano-Breaks. Элементы этих стилей он часто использует в своих творениях. Треки от Tonka всегда отличает позитивный характер.  0:00 Salt-N-Pepa - Push It (DJ Tonka Remix) 4:49 DJ Tonka - Security (Club Mix) 9:26 Urban Soul - Love Is So Nice (Dj Tonka's Till Sunrise Remix) 12:41 DJ Tonka feat. Recorded in Pacha (Ibiza) During the Cadenza Vagabundos Residence Party (Essential Mix) No Introduction needed for Luciano, Simply a master at work. Born in 1978, Luciano is a DJ since 1993 and a producer since 1997. In the mid-90's, he was promoting Sense Club and Encuentros con la Technocultura in Santiago de Chile in the company of many initiators of the Latin American electronic music scene: Senor Coconut AKA Atom Heart, Ricardo Villalobos, Dandy Jack & brother Adrian Schopf, Washington Miranda, Argenix Brito, Microman etc. He's played radio stations and DJed clubs & events in Santiago and Latin America, Germany, Spain & Holland, settling in Switzerland in 2000 to release on Mental Groove Records in Geneva, where he also holds a residency at the Weetamix club. His releases appear on the Transmat, Perlon, Lo-Fi Stereo, Bruchstuecke and Klang Elektronik record labels. Luciano's mixed Swiss & Chilean identity shows in his music, a somewhat mystical blend of deep techno & electro that integrates southern elements in rhythms and colorful patterns in sound. His collaborations with Ricardo Villalobos (Playhouse, Perlon, Warp, Force Inc etc.) as Sense Club are especially rewarding, as is his partnership with Pier Bucci and Argenix Brito as Monne Automne. Mellowing his style as times goes by, getting more experimental and spacey with a fresh style of his own, Luciano's production is destined to the wiser dancefloors that have enjoyed his live sets in Peru, Chile, Argentina, the U.S., Spain, Germany & Switzerland. DJ-wise, Luciano's trade relies on groovy & minimal.

Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement     Rob Acid, Sontec, Dicabor, Alton Inc, Acid Warrior Straight out of Cologne in 1993, under the pseudonym Rob Acid, Babicz released his first single Happy Answer on London Records, which unexpectedly became a huge club hit. With the rise of acid house influenced records dominating the charts, Babicz was able to ride high on this new wave of club culture. In addition to becoming an in demand live performer using one of his other names, Acid Warrior, Babicz started to release singles on high profile imprints like Kompakt, Treibstoff and Steve Bug’s Audiomatique, as well as his own label, Junkfood In what Rob appropriately dubs “the rave years” in the mid-nineties, he was already playing all over the world. During this time Babicz teamed up with Mate Galic and psychedelic sonic experiences of every kind followed, which as Rob himself sums up perfectly came as a result of “excessive sound-research and absurd parties… transistor radio and porn films on big screen”. His affiliation with Force Inc a few years later brought a series of more experimental, less dancefloor-orientated works which suggested his theoretical musique concrete roots. By the turn of the new millennium, Babicz was striving for a different sound and thus began a new label, Shortcut. At the same time, he received multiple requests for sound design from hard and software producers, most notably resulting in the presets he produced for Native Instruments. In 2007 Robert released his landmark record, A Cheerful Temper on Systematic Recordings, which expertly moves between electronica, techno, minimal and classic house. Playing ‘live’ has always been a key feature of Babicz’s authentic musicianship; improvising instead of reeling off pre-determined sets has made his celebrated shows unquestionably unique events. He consistently delivers astonishing performances of his own productions built around warm melodies, blissed atmospherics & analogue bass - sometimes jacking, but mostly tripping and always around the foundations of his first love: techno. Consequently, Babicz has more than proven his worth in the world of dance music and his right to the title of pioneer and innovator, whether producing tech house, minimal or acid techno. With the release of Immortal Changes in early 2010, described by DJ Mag as a “marriage of organic groove and glistening electronic melodies” it is clear that Robert Babicz still has much more to give… Playlist: Intro r.babicz - remote kiss ( babiczstyle) r.babicz - the sun ( babiczsyle ) r.babicz - dark flower (fever album mix) ( systematic ) g.boratto - i feel ( babicz earth remix ) ( defray ) r.babicz - percofonik ( babiczstyle ) r.babicz - storm lunch ( babiczstyle ) r.babicz - astor (g.boratto rmx) ( systematic ) r.babicz - come closer ( lost babicz mix ) ( systematic ) r.babicz - simple feeling ( babiczstyle ) Special tanks to Luke Allen http://www.robertbabicz.de/ http://www.facebook.com/robertbabicz http://www.myspace.com/robertbabicz http://twitter.com/RobertBabicz http://soundcloud.com/robbabicz

ATOM - prend et mois - rather interesting MIKE SHANNON BIOGRAPHY   It’s been 10 years since Mike Shannon started making a name for himself on the international techno scene as a DJ, producer and label owner. Now, having relocated to Berlin from Valencia via Montreal in 2007 he’s about to crown his first decade of active service with Memory Tree, his third full length to date, and his debut for another notable Canadian export - Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8 Records. Over the years, Mike has well proven that it’s not just his music that makes him such a valuable asset to the techno community, it’s his total dedication to the cause. Whether finding him standing behind a record shop counter or searching out new talent for his labels, it’s always been about bringing people together and investing in the future of the scene.   Mike first got the vinyl bug at the tender age of 12, buying house and techno tunes at Play de Record in Toronto and by 15 his turntable skills were already landing him gigs at local underground parties and clubs. From then on, Mike’s musical world expanded rapidly thanks in no small part to Detroit’s influential WJLB radio station which turned him on to U.R., Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson - influences that still play a big role in his approach to music today. To satisfy his appetite for all things Techno, he was soon managing the orders at Speed Records in his hometown of Kitchener, Ontario where he continued his education; importing cutting edge sounds from across Europe.  Throughout that time, Mike was out DJing and clubbing from Detroit to Toronto, making connections and building up a solid network of producers and artists, which led to the inevitable formation of his own label Cynosure in 1999. A couple of years later, he teamed up with Jeff Milligan on the more experimental Revolver Canada imprint. Both labels have since developed into highly respected and trusted sources, subsequently raising the profile of Canada’s electronic music scene by providing then unknown producers such as Akufen and Deadbeat an international platform to spread their distinctive sound throughout the world. Beyond developing homegrown talent, both imprints continue to invite an inspired selection of international artists including Pier Bucci, Monolake and Brett Johnson to name a few.   For Mike it’s always been a question of choosing uncompromising artists who possess a unique and original voice - an attitude that also defines his own work whether recording as John Shananigans, The Sunaj Assassins or under his own name. There’s a distinctive feel to his music that’s both dark and soulful, that stays true to his roots while embracing the future and never fails to deliver a flurry of kick-ass, funk infected beats easily proven by a volley of timeless singles over the years and two previous full lengths. Take 2001’s Slight of Hand on Force Inc - an album that cemented his reputation as an up-and-coming Minimal Techno producer and 2005’s Possible Conclusions to Stories That Never End - a collection of chilled-out Electronica inspired by his musical odyssey throughout Chile in 2003.   Mike’s recent move to Berlin represents the fulfillment of another chapter in his musical career and with so many influential Canadian producers having taken up residence in the German capital over the last few years, it’s a chance to hook up with old friends again and start collaborating on new plans and ideas, just like the old days. Then of course there’s the new album, the accompanying remix projects and the immediate matter of fatherhood to make 2008 something of a milestone both professionally and personally.  Special Thanks to Mr Meike Nolte,Rudy Delgado & Richie Hawtin  http://www.m-nus.com/http://www.plus8.com/http://www.contakt-events.com/
