RHLSTP Book Club 134 - The Invisible Doctrine - Recorded in front of an audience at the prestigious Royal Geographical Society, Richard talks to journalist George Monbiot about his very readable investigation into Neo-Liberalism (co-authored with Peter Hutchinson) The Invisible Doctrine. George does most of the talking, which is probably for the best and reveals what he considers to the be the starting point of capitalism, why capitalism and commerce are not the same thing, the roots of Neo Liberalism in the closing stages of World War II, why it took 30 years to come to prominence, conspiracy theories versus conspiracy fictions, why the left has missed opportunities to defeat Neo-liberalism, what happened when Liz Truss tried to institute its policies all in one go, why Starmer is wrong to try and legitimise Reform and whether there is hope for the future and what we can do to stand up to a political system that threatens our planet. Rousing and fascinating stuff.Event hosted by How To Academy - check out their podcast, the How To Academy Podcast, exploring big ideas with distinguished leaders, artists, and thinkers, available wherever you listen.Buy the book here - https://uk.bookshop.org/p/books/the-invisible-doctrine-understanding-neoliberalism-peter-hutchinson/7402463Support our Kickstarter here https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/467836598/can-i-have-my-ball-backTo see Rich on tour head here http://richardherring.com/ballback/tour Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/rhlstp. Both Andy and Brendan are licking their wounds after the Ballfrogs and Jup Links became the first two teams to ever miss the TGL playoffs this week. The episode begins with some immediate TGL takeaways after a tough three matches to end the regular season. Brendan is miserable when describing the Jup Links performance from Tuesday night and runs down the final scores of all their losses this year. Andy is already on to 2026, where he believes the Ballfrogs need a roster shakeup and could stand to add more grit to their team for season two. It's a quick transition to actual golf this week as the PGA Tour's best field of 2025 will tee it up at Bay Hill for the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Xander is back from injury to play alongside top stars such as Ludvig Åberg, Scottie Scheffler, and Rory McIlroy for this Signature Event. Andy and Brendan discuss Bay Hill as a test for professional golfers and remember some moments from API history. The hammer lock fire picks of the week are made but are unfortunately very much chalk for those looking to tail. After Bay Hill comes the 2025 debut of In/Out/Alternate, where Andy loaded up with 19 entries for the Puerto Rico Open. Brendan fights to the finish wondering whether names like Kevin Chappell, D.A. Points, and Johnson Wagner are headed down for this event. The two touch on this week's LPGA event in China, LIV Hong Kong, and the DP World Tour's Joburg Open before diving into the Dump-in-the-Box Classic. The Champions Tour returns with the Cologuard Classic, which is barely on television but PJ will find how to watch anyway and report back on Sunday. In news, Jay Monahan and Andy "Spitballin'" Weitz are doing the media rounds to tell everyone about the Fan Forward Research (please capitalize) and that a deal with the PIF is not imminent.
Send your thoughts, feelings, opinions and suggestions to 0892096423!Esther O'Moore Donohoe is here to take us through the week's entertainment stories and she tolerates a couple of random tangents from me on Beyonce selling stuff and some Alabama Barker TikTok drama - I hope you will do. Fletcher Powell says a new movie adaptation does justice to a classic of French literature.
"Bangladesh has come out of a lot of difficulty in the past. Bangladesh is a place of hope, is a place of resilience ... We could again come together as a nation, with the ertailers and the brands supporting us, and make the transformation. It's a huge, huge opportunity."Rousing words from this week's compelling interview with manufacturer Shafiq Hassan, of the Echotex manufacturing facility in Gazipur, Bangladesh.Last year Bangladesh was ranked the third-largest exporter of clothing globally (after China and the European Union) exporting USD $38.4 billion worth of garments. The nation is home to over 40K garment factories of various sizes, and over 4 million garment workers.A decade after Rana Plaza, much progress has been made, including around environmental sustainability. Bangladesh now has 186 LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified factories, and, according to Reuters, lays claim to 9 of world's top 10 'green' garment factories (considering carbon, water and energy footprint, waste, logistics, and using more sustainable materials).Clare interviewed Shafiq in London, in September 2024, a little over month after peaceful students protests in Bangladesh toppled ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, then presiding over an increasingly corrupt and authoritarian regime. Her government's response to the protests - appalling violence - is well documented. This week, a new report by the current interim government, titled Unfolding the Truth, implicates Hasina in as many as 3,500 cases of forced disappearances during her time in office.Warned the Solidarity Centre in August: "The economy of Bangladesh, depends on garment factories, but producers say customers are concerned about violence and disruption." What's more, the previous government's "repression against workers seeking to form and join unions has prevented garment workers from achieving the living wages and safe working conditions they have sought to achieve."So what's next? The Nobel peace laureate and economist Muhammad Yunus (founder of the Grameen bank) is leading the interim/ caretaker government. The factories are back working. Leading facilities like Echotex continue to innovate. What's unfolding is very relevant to the fashion sector, and to all of us who care about ethical production and want to understand the role brands have to play when it comes to what we hope are long term partnerships with suppliers. Can you help us spread the word ?Wardrobe Crisis is an independent production. We don't believe in barriers to entry and are determined to keep this content free.If you value it, please help by sharing your favourite Episodes, and rating / reviewing us in Apple orSpotify. Whether due to fear, guilt, or naivety, business leaders have been beaten into the subservient role of "Servant Leader." Leading requires resilience in any context, but our cultural temperament of anxious envy suffocates leadership. Specifically in our context of not just disproportionate employee rights and entitlements, but a culture of empathy and feels, leaders have practically become followers. Presenting the aim for the leader's role as serving his employees is a wrongheaded approach to leadership because it doesn't drive people forward. It hinders the objective of the business, because it puts the focus on the employee instead of the customer. And it hurts the employee, because inviting them to live for themselves is a sad end. Purpose and joy is found in something bigger. The business leader should be rousing employees by raising their vision.

The current crop of DIY shows make us feel as though we can build anything quickly and easily over the course of a weekend with only a few tools. But is this ACTUALLY TRUE??? Are DIY influencers selling us a fantasy as a form of entertainment or are they really teaching us how to make things and improve our homes? In this episode, we review a brief history of DIY culture and how it developed, which helps us to understand the complex nature of DIY as it exists today. Something as simple and commonplace as the lack of good sleep and rest can be - and has been - catastrophic. It's shocking how the mundane, every day, and simple things can be such a big deal!Check it out - There are few things that everyone appreciates. One of these things: A good night's sleep is wonderful. Though a subjective statement, it will always be true.No one enjoys fatigue, a slow brain, or trouble focusing.Everyone appreciates being clear-headed, rested, and ready.Yep. Across the board, everyone will be better off in some way - reinvigorated and alert - after a good night's sleep, or solid nap. And, unfortunately, for a multitude of reasons, and for a large percentage of people, there are few things that have become more unattainable than adequate sleep. Today's show is going to be a little different. The entire show, for the most part, is a reaction to seeing just how far the Left has been willing to go in an effort to destroy a political opponent. But, in my mind, it is a Pyrrhic victory that will cost them far more than they even realize. The lesson we have all learned is just how much they were willing to destroy in order to get a short-term win. They have shredded our Constitution, our legal system, or traditions and our reputations on the world stage. The sleeping dragon was already starting to rouse, but now it is roaring. Republicans must employ the new rule book and use the exact same tactics of the Left until they are defeated. This is the new norm, so we must, for a period of time, commit to following that same pathway. There is no compromise, no working across the aisle. Until every one that supported this course of action is defeated, it must be an all or nothing strategy. Because, while we are understandably distracted with this lawfare, the Biden regime has just quietly given Ukraine the green light to use US provided weapons on areas inside Russia. Biden pushes us to the brink of WWIII and that's that person the Left wants to have in charge at the cost of the very soul of our nation. Write your representatives today. Tell them they must use the same tactics being used by the Left and to show no political mercy until there is a complete changeover. They wanted lawfare at all costs, then they deserve to receive the same treatment. Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. Teaching Tip 354 | “Plain Speaking - rousing introductions and conclusions” | Malcolm Cox Introduction Here is your 2-minute tip based on chapter 2 of the book, “Plain speaking: How to preach and teach effectively" by David Bercot. "The introduction and conclusion of your sermon are like the appetiser and dessert of a meal.” Although a starter and a pudding are optional, they certainly add something special to a meal! A good introduction needs to accomplish two purposes according to Bercot: Capture your hearer's interest - Let your hearers know the subject of your message - “The introduction should provide listeners with a reason to listen. Your introduction should raise the question you are going to answer, create the tension you are going to resolve, or point to the mystery you are going to solve.” Andy Stanley, ‘Communicating for a change' A helpful conclusion accomplishes two things according to Bercot: Provide a brief summary of what has been said - Stir your listeners to action - “You should conclude, and the conclusion should produce a feeling of finality. Like an able lawyer, a minister asks for a verdict.” W. Robinson, Haddon. Biblical Preaching: The Development and Delivery of Expository Messages (p. 223). Baker Academic. Now put everything together — your introduction, main points, sub points and conclusion. How is it looking? Do all the parts connect to one another logically and make sense? Conclusion Next time we will go on to look at the topic of speaking notes. Has today's tip been worth two minutes of your time? I hope so. We're recording after Eddie Howe's pre-match press conference and everyone is excited about the FA Cup quarter final at the Etihad, nobody more than Chris Waugh it seems. Is there any scope for optimism going into this one with our terrible record at City? George thinks so, and he mounts a strong defence of Newcastle's local lads who have been playing through the pain in a difficult season. Whether this is the end of the road for Eddie Howe's squad in its current form is another matter, with the manager suggesting radical changes in personnel will be difficult to achieve this summer. Happy Easter, dear listeners! As Christians, we here at The Modern Lady Podcast hold this week, the octave of Easter, in the highest regard - it is a time of great celebration over our salvation and the triumph of Christ over death in His Resurrection! We have decided to honour this holy time by pausing production on our newest episode and instead, revisit a pretty relevant and appropriate Friday Finishing School episode that we released almost a year and a half ago... at Christmas! Handel's Messiah, and his famous Alleluia chorus in particular, was actually originally meant to be performed at THIS time of year, in a sweeping and obvious hymn of praise for the the Risen Christ. But behind the music and the lyrics is a deeply moving story about charity and concern for the most vulnerable in our society - and also, an interesting fact about how one could use the Alleluia chorus to express, not just religious devotion, but political affiliation! We wish you all a very blessed Easter season, and we will be back with a new episode soon!
