Jimmy and Brett check in on the latest Masters 1000 in Madrid with Carlos Alcaraz having to pull out with an injury. Sasha Zverev bounced back after a not so great couple months with a big win in Munich beating American Ben Shelton in the finals. Holger Rune showed what he's capable of by winning Barcelona and beating fellow young gun Alcaraz in the finals in straight sets. Brett's favorite, Jelena Ostapenko cruised through the draw in Stuttgart beating the world #1 & #2 along the way. The former Roland Garros champ was an underdog in all 5 of her matches and drove off in a brand new Porsche with the trophy. ATP writer Grant Thompson joins the show as the clay season ramps up and the road to Roland Garros intensifies. Thompson recaps Holger Rune's thrilling title run in Barcelona, and what it means for the Danish player going forward. The journalist also discusses Carlos Alcaraz's health, and Alexander Zverev's victory in the Munich final over a very in-form Ben Shelton. And Thompson reacts to Jelena Ostapenko's shockingly good performance in Stuttgart, where she beat Aryna Sabalenka in the final while also improving to 6-0 against Iga Swiatek! Thompson then dives into The Madrid Open, and examines which players on the ATP and WTA are poised to far well with the altitude on these Spanish clay courts. He also discusses some sleepers who could emerge on the men's tour who could emerge in 2025, and what Jannik Sinner's return in Rome will mean for the game. Hosted by Mitch Michals.
What a fun week on tour! Holger Rune claims the title in Barcelona with some great wins along the way, eventually beating Alcaraz to lift the trophy and jump in the pool! Both tours were in Germany last week with Zverev winning the title in Munich over Ben Shelton, while Ostapenko improves to 6-0 against Iga Swiatek and then finishes her title run with impressive win over Sabalenka! I guess Aryna will have to buy her own Porsche now if she can't win one! Better luck next year!

The guys kick off the show recapping the most significant results from last week. Is Zverev back after winning on home soil? Could Rune's victory over Alcaraz make him a week-in, week-out threat moving forward? And does Ostapenko's dominant week in Stuttgart make her a Roland Garros contender? They then delve into the ITIA's odd clarification on the tennis doping control policy and reminisce about their not-so-enjoyable experiences of being watched in the locker room by drug testers during their post-loss showers. Penko Power returns! It's been a week for upsets on the ATP and WTA Tours this week as Jelena Ostapenko and Holger Rune were the big winners in Stuttgart and Barcelona. The Latvian gave us a reminder of all her talents with wins over Sabalenka and Swiatek whilst Rune put Carlos Alcaraz to the sword and returns to the Top 10. Alexander Zverev also rediscovered form in Munich despite hecklers from the crowds over ongoing domestic abuse allegations whilst Elina Svitolina won out in Rouen. It wasn't just all about the champions though this week, as Harrriet Dart was in the news for telling her opponent she needed some deodorant (bizarre!), there were wild celebrations from new kid on the ATP block Dedura-Palomero over a retirement win against Shapovalov and the coaching circus continues with Maria Sakkari getting back together with former coach Tom Hill.Off the court, Serena Williams had her say on the Jannik Sinner ban and brought Maria Sharapova into the debate whilst the French Open organisers announced there would be a special ceremony for Rafael Nadal at this year's Roland Garros. The gang also preview the upcoming Madrid Masters as we go back to the two week format (eurgh!) and give their champion predictions.Roland-Garros Hospitality with Sports, Travel and Hospitality GroupTo guarantee the best seats in the house with ticket-inclusive official hospitality, visit https://bit.ly/4j6RYBzSOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Eddie and Alastair review a remarkable Miami Open from a Tennis Asia perspective. Alex Eala, the 19-year-old from the Philippines, more than justified her wild card by going all the way to the semifinals. She beat three slam winners in Ostapenko, Keys and Swiatek in straight sets, making history for her country and sending her flying up to no. 75 in the WTA rankings.Coleman Wong of Hong Kong also made his history of his own by winning his first-round match in Miami and then beating no. 13 seed Ben Shelton in a remarkable match. Meanwhile, on the ITF Tour, the former world no. 19, Chung Hyeon, won his third title of 2025, propelling him back into the world's top 500 for the first time in almost 3 years. Could we see him back at the top level again?

Tennis, stop. Give us a minute, my God. The chaotic February schedule gives us a first-time 1000 title winner (Anisimova), a first-time ATP titlist (Fonseca), Ostapenko's fifth unanswered defeat of Swiatek, and Bencic winning a big title soon after her return from maternity leave. While trying to keep track of tennis results, we also saw the resolution of the Sinner's WADA appeal, the conclusion of the WTA's investigation into Stefano Vukov, and Simona Halep's retirement. 01:40 Anisimova wins Doha, Penko turns her year around 5:35 Fonseca's first title, Schwartzman's swan song, and will the South American swing go hardcourt? 11:40 Alejandro, por qué??? 15:10 Last week: Bencic, Alcaraz, Shapo 19:40 The Sinner Agreement 31:05 US Open makes mixed doubles a glorified exhibition 40:55 Compton's most famous daughter 47:05 Rybakina's coach Vukov suspended for a year 53:30 Simona Halep retires 62:20 We don't need straight men's takes on which men are hot
Iga Świątek dość dobrze rozpoczęła 2025 rok. Najpierw doszła do półfinału Australian Open, gdzie powtórzyła swój najlepszy wynik z 2022 roku, a następnie dotarła równie wysoko w Dausze. O tym wszystkim porozmawiamy w "Misji Sport" a gośćmi Edyty Kowalczyk i Łukasza Kadziewicza będą: Maciej Synówka, Sebastian Chabiniak, Jarosław Koliński i Natalia Żaczek.

Tennis.com and VSIN writer Zachary Cohen returns to the podcast to break down all the thrilling tennis action around the globe, headlined by Jelena Ostapenko defeating Iga Swiatek in Doha. Cohen discusses how Ostapenko has improved to 5-0 vs Swiatek, Amanda Anisimova's resurgence, and what to make of Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina's form. The writer also discusses Joao Fonseca's emergence as a real threat on the ATP Tour, and lists the men's players with the most long-term potential in his mind. Cohen weighs in on Daniil Medvedev hitting the court again in Marseille after his early-season struggles, and analyzes whether a return to the Top 5 or another slam title in his future. And Cohen runs through a litany of other topics including Taylor Fritz leading a star-studded Delray Beach Open field, Holger Rune's attempt to get back on track, and the emotional retirement of Diego Schwartzman in Argentina.
