About: We did a seasonal set of episodes in the past, but found we had such an abundance of fantastic winter tunes! While we probably will do another set of seasonal themed episodes in the future, we'd like to showcase some more winter themed tracks as we have so many fantastic tunes to share. Artwork: Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins 00:00 - Frozen Wasteland [World's End Club] by Jun Fukuda > 03:03 - Vast Ice Mountain Peak [Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky]by Arata Iiyoshi > 07:02 - Mountain of Prayer [Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins] by Hidenori Iwasaki > 09:44 - Imil / Suhalla [Golden Sun] by Motoi Sakuraba > 12:19 - Esto Gaza [Final Fantasy IX] by Nobuo Uematsu > 16:05 - Winter [Rune Factory 3] by Tomoko Morita > 17:50 - Diamond Dust Zone - Act 1 [Sonic 3D Blast] by Richard Jacques > 20:39 - Freezington [Pokémon Sword & Shield: The Crown Tundra] by Go Ichinose, Minako Adachi > 23:41 - Snowy Village [MapleStory] by Wizet > 26:16 - Seashore War [Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze] by David Wise > 30:08 - A Quiet Purity (Snow Field) [Vantage Master] by Atsushi Shirakawa, Masaru Nakajima, Satoshi Arai, Hayato Sonoda, Kaname Ohara > 33:01 - Missing Link [Final Fantasy XIII-2] by Mitsuto Suzuki > 37:02 - Captocorn Peak [Xenoblade Chronicles 3] by Yasunori Mitsuda, ACE, Kenji Hiramatsu, Manami Kiyota, Mariam Abounnasr > 40:35 - Northeast Frost Street [Kirby and the Forgotten Land] by Yuuta Ogasawara > 43:19 - Snowy Village [Shenmue] by Takenobu Mitsuyoshi, Yuzo Koshiro, Takeshi Yanagawa, Osamu Murata, Ryuji Iuchi > pixelbeatpod@icloud.com >

It's almost time again for our end-of-year “Best of Season 2” (C2R2), on Channel 2, where Hugues and I will pick a combined 22 tracks from the 72 total which we featured across all of Season 2 in calendar 2022. Like last year, we'll each pick 2 tracks per episode (one per episode per host from each of the two hosts), as well as each picking one wildcard track to serve as our episode opener and closer tracks. To build a little excitement for that episode, as well as to give you a handy refresher of everything we did this year, we have put together a music-only recap of the entire season's output (links will be included to each of the “full episodes” with Hugues and I's dialog included). Of the 72, we already  know which 22 we're going to feature as “Best of”s, but as there'll be no spoilers on it, you'll have to just guess and wait and see and hope your personal favorites make our cut! ;-) You can also email us at nerd.noise.radio@gmail.com, or reach out to us on social media telling us what your top 11 would be (one track per host per episode, plus one wildcard), and if we get some submissions before recording time, we can mention them in the episode (or if we get enough of them, perhaps we can even make an Archive SUPER BONUS release out of them). We keep the Meet recording in case there is an emergency with the Audacity recording, but otherwise don't use it in the final episode, and I just align and combine our high quality Audacity recordings. On this episode, however, (a first for Ch 2) we lost a portion of Hugues' Audacity recording, so we did have to use our fallback a little bit. At the very bottom of the show notes, I'll include a LONG[ISH] VERSION which explains more. I did everything I could to minimize the impact of the Google Meet recording in the final episode. But it is noticeable at points.   You can find Brian and Kristen Peterson's GoFundMe here: https://gofund.me/1ef0f855. Then join us again in August on Ch 2 for C2E9: “Just Deserts”. And wherever you are….Fly the N!   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------   NOTE ON BACKUP [bad] AUDIO - LONG VERSION: When Hugues and I record, we record over Google Meet. But we also each have separate recordings going simultaneously in Audacity to capture just our side of the conversation in higher quality. He uses the same mic for both recordings, a Blue Snowball USB Condenser mic, plus, he is the one hosting the Google Meet session, so the sound quality difference between his Meet recording and Audacity recording is very negligible (though Audacity is still a little bit better). My side of the conversation, though, is where the difference becomes significant. To record my high quality audio in Audacity, I use a RØDE Podmic XLR dynamic mic through a Cloudlifter into a Focusrite 4i4, and then into the computer. Given the flexibility of Linux audio routing (Hugues and I both use Linux, actually), I -CAN- pull double duty with the Podmic as well, and use it for both the Audacity and Google Meet recordings like Hugues does. But I've found that doing so tends to degrade the audio quality of the Audacity recording. And so, I prefer to keep the Podmic and Focusrite discrete for Audacity to keep it as pristine as possible, and then use one my lower-quality mics for the Google Meet. In the case of today's episode, I just used the sludgy, boomy, poorly defined mic that's built right into my very run of the mill webcam. I mean, because hey, it's not gonna matter, right? Nobody's gonna hear the Google Meet audio anyway...right? Well, that presumes that everything goes fine on both of our individual Audacity recordings. And for this episode (a first in the history of Ch 2), we had a couple segments, one really short and insignificant, and one much more significant, where Hugues' side of the Audacity cut out. It just briefly quit recording. So, we had to fallback to the Google Meets recording for those segments. I was able to minimize the impact of those segments by replacing as much of the Google Meets audio for my side of the recording as possible with my Audacity audio, but what I couldn't do was remove the moments where I would "Mhm" etc while Hugues was talking, since to do so would also remove what he was saying. So, I had to leave those in - and that can be pretty jarring. Also, during the portions of these periods where I'm talking, I had to remove all the "Mhms" etc from Hugues because I couldn't include them without including my bad audio in the mix too. Though you don't end up hearing a whole lot of me on the bad audio, the sudden transitions from the boomy, murky "mhms" to the clean, defined high quality audio is pretty jarring - plus, Hugues sounds completely disengaged when I'm talking in those moments when he really wasn't. But it was the best we could do with what we had. So, we made do, and I think it ultimately turned out pretty alright. But I did at least want to acknowledge the issue and confirm I was very much aware of it. By the time I got to the bloopers, I was a little burned out from the granularity of splicing good audio over bad audio and cutting the bad audio back out, and so, I figured that for the bloopers it wouldn't matter, and just left some of the Meet clips alone. I suppose this has the accidental benefit of letting you hear what the Meet recording sounded like. :-)

Today's “F-isode” is the complete collection of all music from season 1 of Nerd Noise Radio - Channel 2 (Sept 2020 - Sept 2021) ***PLUS***, the music from Hugues and I's December 2019 Channel F “one-off” that would go on to retroactively become the template, and “unofficial ‘beta'” for Channel 2. Though much longer, and a bit more clunky and unpolished, it is otherwise identical in format and fundamentally similar in delivery to what would go on to become the later Channel 2 “official episodes”.    Now, this collection is JUST the music from these episodes, with all the conversation between Hugues and I scrubbed. However, I will provide iTunes links to each of the full episodes (plus the full beta) so that you can listen to these tracks IN CONTEXT if you wish, and can hear everything we had to say about them.   Part of the reason I had included the tracks from the 2019 beta is to show where we've come from. Part of it is to show where we're going. Part of it is simply because it's full of really, really great music that you may have otherwise missed. And lastly, since starting with the “Best of 2020 / 2021” episodes in 2022, music from Channel F “F-isodes” will be eligible, unlike they were in 2020 for “Best of 2019”, I wanted to include them here now so that they'd finally be available to you or I for inclusion in our respective “best ofs”.   But the single biggest reason for my sharing these with you now, in November of 2021 is simply to hopefully build some excitement for and engagement with December's “Best of Channel 2 - Season 1” episode, which Hugues and I will meet to produce, and will feature a grand total of 26 tracks, ***ALL OF WHICH*** pulled from today's collection of 92 - two tracks per host per episode, plus one “wild card”  track pick per host. So, which 26 will we pull, and which 66 will we leave behind? And how well or poorly will our 26 align with the 26 that you, the listener, may have theoretically picked for yourself and/or predicted that we might pull?   In December, we'll all find out together. And afterwards, you'll have to be sure to reach out to us to let us know! In the meanwhile, here's the source material we'll be pulling from: first, the 70 tracks from “Season 1 proper”, plus the 22 from 2019 in our beta afterwards. I hope you'll enjoy! Please get a hold of us on FB, or Twitter, or through e-mail at nerdnoiseradio@gmail.com with what your picks, and/or your guess of what our picks will be, and if we get them in time, we may even mention them, and engage with them during the episode! If you DO decide to play along, pick one “Hugues track”, one “St. John track”, and one wildcard, so we're dealing with the same number of tracks (as well as what your guesses are for our picks).   Cheers!   ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------   C2E1: “Songs of the Pandemic” (Orig. Today's rerun was a VERY special occasion that I'm very excited to get to share anew. It was a Channel F "F-isode", originally broadcast December 19th, 2019 that at the time was intended to be nothing more than just a fun "one off" between two friends and fellow podcasters. And yet, it ended up becoming something so much more than that. Though not intended to be at the time, and though it will probably never "officially" be classified as such, it has retroactively become something of a "beta", or a "pilot", or maybe an "Episode Zero" for what would go onto become "Nerd Noise Radio - Channel 2". Though this trial run is much longer than a standard Channel 2 episode - because it contains nearly twice as many tracks, and though the conversation and production are clunkier, the basic formatting is fundamentally the same, and thus, this really can be retroactively considered to "the birth of Channel 2". Enjoy!   Nerd Noise Game Club    Tracklist with timestamps    Game - System - Track - Composer - Year - Selected By - Timestamp     - Earcatcher: 00:00:00     - Retro City Rampage - Multiplatform - Do or Die - Norrin Radd - 2012 - Hugues  Music: 00:00:03  Intro / Discussion: 00:00:39     - Shovel Knight - Multiplatform - Strike the Earth - Jake Kaufman - 2014 - St. John  Music: 00:04:25  Discussion: 00:08:07     - Tokyo Xanadu - Vita / PS4 / Windows - My Blaze, My Truth - Falcom Sound Team jdk (Hayato Sonoda, Mitsuo Singa, Takahiro Unisuga, and/or Koji Sekiguchi) - 2015 - Hugues  Music: 00:12:45  Discussion: 00:16:07     - Super Smash Bros. St. John of "Nerd Noise Radio" and Hugues Johnson of "Retro Game Club" (and "The Retro League" alum) join forces to cover and discuss some of their favorite pieces of VGM from the 2010's.It's about what you'd expect if you put Retro Game Club / The Retro League, Nerd Noise Radio, Legacy Music Hour, and an entire decade of VGM in a blender....ooh, or maybe the hadron collider! For the time-being, this is just a one-time "one-off" special, but if there is enough demand from either, or especially both of our respective listener pools, then we're open to making this an ongoing (albeit occasional, and likely irregular) thing. "Nerd Noise Radio - Channel 2", maybe? ;-)Anyway, the power is yours, listeners! Make your voices heard! In the meanwhile? In this midweek show, Jerod, LeGrande and Jeremy discuss a bunch of games they didn't plan to talk about! LeGrande starts with The Elder Scrolls Legends but ACTUALLY wanted to talk about Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA. Jerod didn't want to talk about Kingdom Come Deliverance: From the Ashes, but also talks about The Flame in the Flood. Jeremy probably wanted to talk about everything, but he sticks with Realms of Arkania: Star Trail and Hero-U!
