UGC is hot, hot, hot right now. Roblox is on track to pay out half a billion USD to creators - annually - and never has it been more possible for young, individual creators to make a meaningful living as “game developers.” But is Roblox the only place for such creators? HiberWorld, a platform that's empowering anyone to build and share their own 3D worlds, is trying to change that by making making it as easy possible for anyone, at any age, and anywhere in the world to build their own virtual worlds. HiberWorld has already achieved some impressive milestones, reaching 1 million worlds in 2021, 5 million in 2023, and 6.5 million at latest count. Underlying everything is Hiber3D, Hiber's web engine, which is trying to make it as easy as possible for anyone to build their own HiberWorld. In this episode your host, Niko Vuori, sits down with Hiber's Chief Strategy Officer Sean Kauppinen to discuss Hiber's story, what growth strategies it has used to grow, and what differentiates it from Roblox. For the first time in history, SatIoT can now connect any type of IoT sensor with low-cost and low-power anywhere around the globe, which provides new ways to monitor various use cases, such as climate change. Fabien Jordan, the Founder and CEO of Astrocast, joins the podcast to discuss just that, along with other use cases of SatIoT. Fabien also gives insights on the goal for nanosatellites orbiting Earth, challenges in the industry, and what the future holds for SatIoT.Fabien Jordan is the Founder and CEO of Astrocast, a leading Satellite IoT service that enables asset tracking and two-way communications in remote areas of the world. Fabien is widely recognized for his work on SwissCube, the longest-operating nanosatellite. He also worked as Technical Manager at the Space Exploration Institute in Neuchâtel, where he contributed to designing two scientific instruments for the ESA ExoMars Rover Mission. Previously, he was Electrical System Engineer at the Swiss Space Center EPFL. Thanks to his 15-year experience in space systems engineering and early involvement in the CubeSat community, he became convinced that nanosatellite constellations would disrupt specific segments of the satellite industry and saw the NewSpace revolution coming. In 2014, with an international team of experts from the space and telecom industries, he developed a strong business model to provide global, direct-to-satellite Internet-of-Things (IoT) communications. Leveraging the industry-leading performance of Astrocast's L-band IoT network, Fabien successfully positioned the first Swiss satellite operator as a front-runner.Astrocast SA operates a leading global nanosatellite IoT network, offering services in industries such as agriculture & livestock, maritime, and environment and utilities, to name a few. The Astrocast network enables companies to monitor, track, and communicate with remote assets from anywhere in the world. It relies on a superior L-band spectrum through a strategic alliance with Thuraya. In partnership with Airbus, CEA/LETI, and ESA, Astrocast developed Astronode S, an ultra-low power and miniaturized module compatible with inexpensive L-band patch antennas. Founded in 2014 by a renowned team of experts, Astrocast develops and tests all its products in-house, from the satellites to the modules. Astrocast is listed on Euronext Growth Oslo and recently announced the acquisition of Hiber.

Sometimes it isn't what you know but who you know and that certainly rings true for Ernst Peter Hovinger, Co-Founder of satellite IoT company Hiber, who joins us this week to talk about how he got his start in the satellite industry. Since getting his introduction to the world of satellite and space technology, Ernst Peter has worked with some of the biggest names and most exciting names in the industry before helping to found Hiber and now spends his time mentoring and inspiring new entrepreneurs passing on his wealth of knowledge and experience. Amongst other things we discuss how he nearly missed the most exciting moments in Hiber's history so far in the company of some marines in Colorado, how the space industry can save the world and why inspiration doesn't always come from those above you.

Hiber is a Dutch company that works to provide IoT - Internet of Things - connectivity in remote and rural areas. Only 10% of the world has connectivity right now, says Erik Wienk, Managing Director, which is about 90% of the people. But the remaining 90% of the world needs to use satellite communications technology. IoT is expensive and power-hungry, though, so Hiber has combined terrestrial and satellite communications into a satellite network with the power consumption and cost-saving levels of land-based communications. They have their own satellite network, with two satellites currently in orbit and two more planned.Hiber systems are used in agricultural technology, logistics and supply chain systems, and mining environments. Industry sensors connect to Hiber modems and antennae to transmit data like soil moisture or temperature via satellite. The company hopes to be a solution to the big challenges we have today in situations like food waste, due to poor monitoring of production or transportation. Hiber technology can be used to monitor beehives, 70 million of which are in remote areas, with a mortality rate of 40% in unmonitored areas. With monitoring, mortality rates can be reduced by 10%, with a commensurate positive impact on crops. The company currently has about 70 pilot projects underway, with a major focus on agricultural monitoring and transportation logistics, as well as smart energy. Hiber has been nominated as a National Icon by the Dutch Government and attended CES as part of the Dutch Innovation booth. The experience has provided them with new ways to look at things, like connected beehives, that they might not have fully considered previously. Want to be able to compete with the big guys in the Plumbing & Heating industry... Well, Wayne Bettess spent the afternoon down in London with the Founder & CEO of Hiber, Killian Pender.Wayne Bettess & Killian Pender discuss What Hiber can help Small Businesses offer and achieve. One of the major things Hiber offers is an easy route to be able to offer finance to our customers. Wayne Bettess also unearthed where Hiber is heading and how Hiber set out to make Tradespeople Thrive across the UK.Find out more about Hiber here - https://www.hiber.comTAKE ON THE LIKES OF BOXT & BRITISH GAS by partnering with HIBERBelow is an article I wrote recently Mind YOUR own business… How you can counter the BOXT effect. You can’t stop BOXT, but YOU can drive your own business forward, WB GAS LTD Owner Wayne Bettess explains.I have wanted to write this article for a while but just couldn’t find the words to get my point across, that said here goes…Who are BOXTFor those unaware of BOXT, they are, in all sense of purpose a tech startup. They offer homeowners a way to buy a new boiler online, for fixed-price boiler installations across the UK, utilizing a network of self-employed small business owners. When BOXT first came on the scene there were a few murmurs and a bit of intrigue but, that was about it. Then they, in a rather dramatic turn got investment from Robert Bosch Holdings who bought a large stake in the company! Yes, that’s the same Bosch that owns the UK biggest boiler brand, Worcester Bosch! This made a big wave across the industry and quite frankly were they really starting to take off in a positive and negative manner! Many people quickly demonized Worcester Bosch and the whole BOXT model but this did not stop BOXT, who has seen explosive growth across the UK’s boiler Installation market! What they offer is a unique, modern and restriction-free way for homeowners/landlords to buy a new boiler. At very competitive prices, delivered quickly and efficiently across the country. I feel it has had a similar effect as to what UBER had on the London black cab industry… At first, people didn’t pay much attention, then as they got traction, people were caught off guard and subsequently lost a huge chunk of their industry from under their noses.Read the rest here - https://waynebettess.co.uk/2019/11/27/mind-your-own-business-how-you-can-counter-the-boxt-effect/Support the show (https://www.waynebettess.co.uk)

"I ran into several angel investors. They came up with this idea, and said 'You are the guy with the brains from the space side, do you want to quit your job and start an entrepreneurial venture and see how we can make money in the space industry?' That was basically the pitch. On which I quit my job." Welcome to episode #157 with Coen Janssen, Co-Founder of Hiber, whose miniature satellites are helping to get the world online and help connectivity. Having launched its first nano satellites into orbit in late 2018, Hiber will be providing connectivity to the 90% of the world lacking a network, and at a significantly cheaper price than existing alternatives. I recently caught up with Coen, who's based in Amsterdam, via a Skype call to discuss how Hiber's technology can bring changes to a wide array of different industries. A reminder that we're running a contest throughout August where you can win an all-day ticket to October 17th's Entrepreneur Summit 2019 in Bournemouth, Uk. You'll get to hang out with me and the team that bring you this show, plus meet our all-star line-up of speakers, and join us at the after-parties. Maybe we'll even shoot some content for the show! Just leave a review, screenshot it, and email alex@screwitjustdoit,org before the end of August, when I'll pick a couple of winners. If you'd like to make sure of attending, just click the link to the event above to purchase a ticket, using the promo code SIJDI to get 10%. Coen Jansen says the value of IOT, or internet of things, is estimated at roughly $4 Billion, although the total monetary impact is expected to be in the Trillions of $. Hiber have already had a host of companies from agriculture, logistics, transportation and environmental sectors all sign up to their network. I personally find this really fascinating, and I hope you do too. Let's StartUp!
Today’s guest is Coen, co-founder of Hiber. We’re talking about low-cost IOT solutions, in particular how miniature satellites at helping to get the world online and improve global connectivity from around 10%. We explore Hiber, their evolution and Coen’s journey into tech (despite his best intentions)! Het is toch the next big thing. Het is toch the next big thing. Dutch startup Hiber is launching cubesats to provide internet of things connectivity around the world to paying customers. The first two satellites have recently been lauched and the first customers have signed up.
