This week, we're diving into three titles that, in their own unique ways, critique capitalist systems and corruption through humor and satire. Join Anthony Carew, Alice McShane, and Will Cox for their reviews of THE WHITE LOTUS, THE STUDIO and DEATH OF A UNICORN.THE WHITE LOTUS has just aired its third season finale, and we have a lot to discuss. Set at the fictional high end resort The White Lotus, each season follows a group of wealthy holiday makers in increasingly luxurious locations, with one person going home in a body bag at the end of their stay. THE STUDIO is the most recent prestige tv release from Apple Studios - and follows Seth Rogan's Matt Remick who has recently been promoted to run the fictional Continental Studios. Howver, his goal to produce films that are high in profit and high in artistic value proves a tall order. DEATH OF A UNICORN follows a father and daughter after they accidentally hit and kill a unicorn on their way to a weekend retreat at the home of his millionaire pharmaceutical boss, who sees an opportunity to exploit the creature for profit, leading to a comedy horror that offers a gory, "eat the rich" satire of capitalism and greed. You can tune in to Primal Screen live on Mondays from 7pm on Triple R 102.7 Triple R's April Amnesty is on now! Will he still be a Sixer at the start of the seaosn? On the other, Jimmy Butler did show up to Media Day. Howver, Butler showed up to Media Day sporting a new.... style. Is Jimmy Butler.... emo? NC State is going with MJ Morris at quarterback and moving on from Brennan Armstrong, at least for the time being. Is this a good decision? Will it make a difference?
As usual with the PGA schedule, Keegan joins Nick and Billy to discuss the weekend after every Major. Right now is both the best of times and the worst of times for building a new PC or upgrading an existing one. If you absolutely need to build or upgrade one today, then there is no time better, of course. However, if you have the ability to hold off, at least on some components, it should be in your best interest. We expect to see new video cards from both AMD and Nvidia, as well as new processors from Intel and AMD.Remember, this advice applies specifically to desktop PCS, as laptop hardware is always delayed behind desktop components. All of this hardware will not come out until later 2023 for laptops.Video cardsThe best advice for video cards is to skip any card that currently costs over $500. The new cards will be announced starting this week, and both AMD and Nvidia are expected to start with the top specification cards and work their way backward. So, the more expensive cards from the current generation are likely to drop in price as their replacements could be out shortly. So, investing in these cards will cost more in the long run than waiting a little while. In addition, current generation cards are seeing a decline now that Etherium mining is effectively dead. That means that demand on cards has lowered significantly and availability has not changed. Etherium moved from proof of work to proof of stake, so video cards are no longer involved. Currently, it would take 20 years to break even on a 3080 using the new technology, before the prices change. However, if you are in the market for a less expensive card, now is not a bad time to invest. The next generation cards with the lower specifications will likely be longer before they are replaced, so costs will not change significantly in the near term. Also, because the prices are already lower, there isn't as much room for discounts when new hardware is released.CPUs and MotherboardsNow, what about CPUs? In the next few weeks or possibly months, new AMD Ryzen chips are coming, as are Intel Rapter Lake chips. They'll be faster than the current generation and older chips will go on sale. However, it's important to note that new AMD chips are not going to work in existng motherboards, so making a change today would be ill advised. A future update is going to require new motherboards, which will come along with a requirement for upgraded RAM. If you're building a powerful computer, that slight delay might be worth considering.Howver, if you're loking to build or buy a mid to low cost computer, now would still be an okay time to buy. A $300 CPU is not going to see a significant change in power or price in the next generation. But, if you're looking for a top tier CPU, it would be best to hold off.Other componentsOther components, such as CPUs, cases, and power supplies are not expected to change much between now and the release of the new components, so those are not a concern.
In this episode of the podcast our guest is the in demand wordsmith and titan of a man, Idris Goodwin. Idris Goodwin is an award winning scriptwriter, breakbeat poet, educator and executive director of The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College. He was recently named a 2021 United States Artist Fellow. In addition to Can I Kick It?, he's had several publications from Haymarket Books including Inauguration co written with nico wilkinson, Human Highlight: Ode To Dominique Wilkins, and the play This Is Modern Art. He's appeared on Nickelodeon, HBO Def Poetry, Sesame Street, NPR, BBC Radio, and the Discovery Channel. His plays include And In This Corner Cassius Clay, How We Got On, Hype Man and Jacked! While every guest has been greatly anticipated by me personally, I think I can say with a great deal of confidence that maybe no guest so far has been as repeatedly requested by people I talk to in the field of TYA. I was introduced in full force to today's guest, Idris Goodwin, when I saw his interview with Jason Reynolds leading up to an incredible production of Ghost at the TYA/USA conference in Atlanta, GA almost 3 years ago. Since then I've continued to find that Idris is behind some of my favorite TYA work including "And in this Corner, Cassius Clay" and "This is Modern Art." This episode holds up (even if some of his projects that he refers to as being in the works have already occured!) Our conversation today is wide ranging, and covers a broad scope of topics including his writing process, what he sees as needs in the field of TYA, and the creative stimuli that make his work hum. I do want to make a note that we discuss the topic of "messiness" in theatre, and at the end of the podcast I have a message I want to share to give context for something I said in our conversation. Howver, at this point? Trust me, you're not going to want to miss a second of this conversation. The man is incredible, and I wish we'd had twice as much time!Audio Engineer: Darius Fletcher | Lumber Beard DesignsTheme Music: Wallpaper by Kevin Macleod
Study Guide Beitzah 20 This month’s learning is dedicated for a refuah shleima for Noam Eliezer ben Yael Chaya v'Aytan Yehoshua. Today's daf is sponsored by Danielle Barta in memory of Michelle Daman Wasserman - Gittel Frieda bat Sarah whose yahrzeit is tomorrow. "Michelle was taken from us too early, 15 years ago, leaving behind two little girls who have grown into beautiful young women who would, no doubt, make her very proud. Michelle, you will always be my inspiration to be my best both in my avodat Hashem and my bein adam l'chevero. I miss you and think about you every day." Rabbi Elazar Bar Shimon did not allow the use of a thanksgiving sacrifice to also be used to fulfill his duty to bring peace offerings for the holiday (the obligatory ones), even if it was so explicitly stipulated when one designated the animal. Why not? The Gemara illustrates this by bringing an example of one on his death bed who told someone I will give you 400 zuzim and you can marry my daughter. In this case, the condition is not effective. However, if he said it in the reverse order, it would be. Why? A student brought a braita before Rabbi Yitzchak Bar Abba bringing a drasha to derive the obligation for semicha on an obligatory burnt offering. Rabbi Yitzchak questions him as it seems his braita was stated only according to Beit Shamai as per their opinion in our Mishna that semicha can’t be performed on Yom Tov for obligatory peace offerings as semicha is not required for them. Likewise, semicha would also not be obligatory in obligatory burnt offerings, thus obviating the need for a drasha. The Gemara ultimately explains that the need for a drasha could be explained according to Beit Hillel as well. Rabbi Yitzchak’s question was based on the fact that the reason in the Mishnah for Beit Shamai to not permit semicha on Yom Tov was because it was not obligatory. Howver it appears in a braita that the reason is because he didn’t hold the semicha has to be performed immediately before the slaughtering of the animal and therefore, better to do it the day before. The Gemara answers that there are two different traditions regarding the reason for the dispute between Beit Shamai and Beit Hillel in the Mishnah. There are stories told of Hillel the elder and Shamai’s students who clashed in the Temple regarding their debate. The Tosefta is brought in which Beit Hillel and Shamai each bring various arguments to support their opinions. The tana and Abba Shaul have a different tradition regarding their arguments and this is because they disagreed as to whether vow and gift offerings can be brought on Yom Tov according to Beit Hillel. Rav Huna thinks that whoever says they cannot be brought, holds it is forbidden by Torah law and not just a rabbinic decree. What if one transgressed and slaughtered the animal for a vow or gift offering, would one be able to sprinkle the blood on the altar on Yom Tov? Rabba and Rabba Bar Rav Huna disagree as to why it would be permitted.

WE ARE (MOSTLY) BACK!! FTCUTD, back from our annual August break, TK and Coach are still chillin on the beach, so to kick off the new Euro season, Greggo is joined by the good homie in The Culture, Can I Kick It's Yogi Barr, and our special guest this week is Kartik Krishnayer of the World Soccer Talk Podcast! World Soccer Talk is a podcast and website that for over 15 years extensively covers Soccer TV coverage in the US and around the world! This week we discuss the ongoing streaming wars in soccer, as several Euro leagues have switched to new network partners and streaming services. Serie A is now over with CBS/Paramount+ La Liga is now with ESPN/ESPN+ UEFA Champions League is now finally in its first year of full coverage with CBS and Paramount+, so fans will finally begin to see more Champions League games on CBSSN, and later matches in the tournament on the flagship CBS Network! Howver we kick off the show discussing the incident in Nice where OGC Nice Supporters stormed the field after Dimitri Payet returned a thrown water bottle into the supporter stands, causing the Sunday match between Nice and Marseille to be suspended. This incident interrupting the hoopla stirred by the arrival of Leo Messi to PSG while we were on break and we discuss the impact of said move especially as the rumor of Real Madrid going after Kylian Mbappe before the end of the transfer window begins to emerge. Yet to make a network move is the Premier League, in their final contract year with NBC. We go over what direction they may be heading given all the changes to coverage since the arrival of NBC's Peacock streaming service last summer. We also touch on Arsenal's anemic start to the season and if Mikel Arteta may last in North London following last weekend's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea and this weekend's equally tough match against Man City (which might have a certain Ronaldo in the ranks by this weekend). In the second half of the show, we move stateside and while there is nobody with Greggo to take glee in the Home Team's 4 game winning streak, the horn still goes toot toot! The focus then quickly shifts to the recent article in The Athletic where Inter Miami's failure to launch is exposed in detail. With Kartik being a South Florida resident and entrenched in the soccer business in the area, he provides his perspective on what exactly has gone wrong with Inter Miami since they finally went from perpetual delays to a team knee deep in league violations. Kiwi snowboarder Zoi Sadowski Synnott says she is “stoked” after claiming gold in the snowboard slopestyle at the X Games in Aspen todayThe 17-year-old Olympian was only added to the event this morning, having originally been named as an alternate (reserve) for the slopestyle competition, considered one of the pinnacle competitions in winter sport.Howver, Sadowski-Synnott stomped her first run with back to back 900s and a double wildcat to score 90 points from a possible 100. She improved to a 91 on her third run.She told Martin Devlin she's “pretty happy” with her performance."Everyone went through and I found out I won, and it was insane. This is beyond my wildest dreams."She says that when she found out she was competing, she decided to straight out the game go for the 9-9-7.Sadowski-Synnott says that she doesn't believe she got a 90 before, and was initially just happy with.“I was just so stoked I got the run down. That alone I was so happy on, and it didn't really matter where I ended up.”She says she hasn't done well in a slope-style competition before. She came here to focus on the Big Air event, which she claimed silver in the snowboard big air on Friday.“That was just insane, and to do this today, I just can't believe it.”Sadowski-Synnott says that the X Games is 'the best of the best', and that being able to win, let alone take part, is a "career highlight".Hailey Langland (USA) finished in the silver medal spot, coming close to beating the Kiwi with a 90.66 on her final run. Finnish athlete Enni Rukajarvi was third.LISTEN TO ZOI SADOWSKI-SYNNOTT TALK WITH MARTIN DEVLIN ABOVE
First it was guns. Then it was 'regert.' Now, it's A First-Rate Madness. Sometimes we just land on a topic that is so good, it bears repeating many times in many episodes. For our season opener, we wanted to spend some time giving you an idea of what to expect in season 5, but instead we seemed to have veered somewhat in movie discussion, social challenges, and of course, A First-Rate Madness. There is so much awesome packed into that book, that it is hard to stop talking about. Howver, we do use its premise to launch into what we will be covering (in part) this season, namely, understanding the environment in which we find ourselves so as to make more accurate reflections and assessments regarding the leadership styles and expectations of ourselves, and those we may follow. This is gonna be a great next couple of weeks, so get your thinking caps on! It's time to get a little nuts.

I had the great privilege to be asked to teach some masters degree students at Theaterakademie August Everding in Munich, Germany recently. I had a splendid time! The three students I worked with all had ambitious, figurative projects which they had been working on for some weeks when I arrived for my five day stint there. Daniel Riedl had made a full-size figure leaning out of a bath and was in the final sculpting stages preparing to make ready for moulding. Julian Hutcheson had just moulded his sculpt of a male torso, and in the week we mixed and cast out the silicone in the chosen flesh tone (Moldstar 20 from Smooth-On). Caterina Veronesi had sculpted a scale figure of herself which will be cast in silicone and was also in the final sculpting stages and preparing to make the mould. We had a great group chat to discuss how things work there, the education system (It's a free, government paid education which requires an extensive interview process which is a completely different model to the business-style version most makeup education systems work to) and the expected quality of work such a system produces. One great project they had was to take classic roman marble sculptures and create realistic portrait busts based on them. This was a great project as it revealed the licence artists took to portray an idealised version of someone who perhaps would really have been a good deal less attractive in reality - the photoshop of it's day. By studying the people depicted, discrepencies between reported ages and health reveal how much the idealised versions deviated from reality. Pic: The original marble bust (left)and lifelike interpretation by Julian Hutcheson (right). We also chat about how important beer is, making your own silicone wig blocks, using Monster Clay in a cold environment as well as the re-emerging point of the unavoidable trinity in all creative endeavours: “Good – Quick – Cheap...Pick two because you can’t have all three“. Dividing up large appliances Michael Pennington got in touch through our email (stuartandtodd@gmail.com) with a question about how best to know where one should divide up appliance sculpts to break them down into smaller pieces. As Todd points out, much of this is a hangover from foam latex and the shrinkage which was inevitable with that material. Silicone howver has none of these shrinkage issues, so we don't always need to divide it in the same way. That said, there are often good reasons to make a large appliance makeup into smaller, more manageable pieces. The most logical place to do this is where the sculpture is at it's thinnest, and to try and keep edges in easier-to-hide areas where possible, such as where there is naturally a crease or shadow. This was covered in more detail in a post from a while back, 'Floating Pieces' where you will also find a workbook with lots of in-depth information: -------------------------------------------------- 'Cheap Cheap Cheap' shouldn't be 'Shit Shit Shit' Whenever we do a video tutorial, I can guarantee that someone will want to do it for less money. This is of course an inevitable occurance, as it is quite sensible to not spend money you don't need to. However, there does come a point where substitutuing can become so obsessive that eventually the end result can just look like a pile of crap. I do a wax scar, someone wants to make their own wax becasue it's too expensive. If I had a makeup using good wishes and exhaled air, someone somewhere would want to economise on that somehow. (I know of people who have made their own wax, but if you don't put a dollar value on your time or you seriously have a great idea to improve it then fine - but to me wax IS the cheaper and quicker way compared to sculpting, moulding and casting an appliance!) Whilst it is true that skill will 'work well with anything', I can assure you top pro makeup kits do not have packs of cured meats and jam instead of makeup products to use on their screen talent. If mashed banana looks just right for fat, or pus or brains then fantatsic. Just don't extend that to 'I'll never need to buy another makeup product again'. Once you've seen outsandingmakeup work done firsthand, then your priorities change. You decide instead of trying to do something as quick and cheap as possible, you would rather try and do something as good as possible. Like that trinity of choices above, pick two and decide which you would rather have in your portfolio. Latex is a material that often gets used in colleges because it is cheap and easy to get. Howver, it requires more skill to paint it to appear like real skin than silicone appliances, so there is always a trade off. We would encourage you to get good at using cheap materials on a small scale, and then gradually scale up as you improve. Beware clickbait and attention grabbing use of foodstuffs - if there was a way of not buying makeup then we can assure you working professionals would be the first in line at the grocery store! Jam may be fine for a kids halloween party, but it won't do you any favours in a working portfolio. Till next time. Stuart & Todd

Many of us belong to many organizations, but are we aware that these organizations are also a great tool to help us expand our own personal brands. SHOWING UP as a volunteer in these organizations is the easiest way to differentiate yourself from your competition becuase most of them do not give back to their communities. Woody Allen once said "80% of success is showing up" Howver its the other 20% of what happens when you SHOW UP that's going to determine whether or not you will truly be great. What organizations/Clubs/Non Profits are you SHOWing Up at? Who SHOWS Up at the places you are going? Are their opportunities with these people for some co-branding or co-partnering, which becomes a win/win for you both? People like to do business with people they see giving back so lets explore a plan on How to begin? Also lets look at What You are Doing for these Organizations as remember you have to Give to Get. I have had lots of expertise as a volunteer, I currently serve on the Executive board of my local chamber of commerce, I just completed a year term as the President of a GFWC Woman's Club and the President of a Social Club where I live, plus I do lots of training in the Non Profit arena and have spoken at many non profit conf erences across the country. Each of these have helped me to become better known as well as exposed the work I do to more and more people across the Globe, So lets help you step out and get involved and to get you and your company better know. Join me so we can discuss how you can begin to have your own plan and get more involved with your community.
