Send us a textCurtis and Aaron Vaughn came up with the idea for this podcast. The concept for this podcast is to give information and opinions about ten songs each month that may fly under the radar for most listeners of music. Also, we will play a snippet of each song and ask the listener to comment to us through one of our social media outlets so we can get different opinions on what you think about these songs and what they mean to you. The opinions of the music selected are only the opinions of Aaron and Curtis and may not reflect what the artist had in mind. They believe that is the beauty of music. It can mean so many different things to so many different people.  In short, Curtis came up with this quote to describe the show: “Sharing the joy of music in hopes of bringing back old memories or helping listeners discover unfamiliar artists, bands, or songs that they might want to look further into. At the same time, helping out Veterans and their families with donations along the way."Songs for this month are:1. Just Fine - Mary J. Blige2. Gypsys, Tramps, & Thieves - Cher3. Ants Marching - Dave Matthews Band4. Juke Box Hero - Foreigner5. Do You Feel Like We Do - Peter Frampton6. Celebration (Single Version) - Kool & The Gang7.  You Can't Kill Rock and Roll - Ozzy Ozbourne8. Can I Kick It? - A Tribe Called Quest9. He's appeared on Nickelodeon, HBO Def Poetry, Sesame Street, NPR, BBC Radio, and the Discovery Channel.  His plays include And In This Corner Cassius Clay, How We Got On, Hype Man and Jacked! While every guest has been greatly anticipated by me personally, I think I can say with a great deal of confidence that maybe no guest so far has been as repeatedly requested by people I talk to in the field of TYA. I was introduced in full force to today's guest, Idris Goodwin, when I saw his interview with Jason Reynolds leading up to an incredible production of Ghost at the TYA/USA conference in Atlanta, GA almost 3 years ago. Since then I've continued to find that Idris is behind some of my favorite TYA work including "And in this Corner, Cassius Clay" and "This is Modern Art." This episode holds up (even if some of his projects that he refers to as being in the works have already occured!) Our conversation today is wide ranging, and covers a broad scope of topics including his writing process, what he sees as needs in the field of TYA, and the creative stimuli that make his work hum. I do want to make a note that we discuss the topic of "messiness" in theatre, and at the end of the podcast I have a message I want to share to give context for something I said in our conversation. Howver, at this point? Trust me, you're not going to want to miss a second of this conversation. The man is incredible, and I wish we'd had twice as much time!Audio Engineer: Darius Fletcher | Lumber Beard DesignsTheme Music: Wallpaper by Kevin Macleod

WE ARE (MOSTLY) BACK!! FTCUTD, back from our annual August break, TK and Coach are still chillin on the beach, so to kick off the new Euro season, Greggo is joined by the good homie in The Culture, Can I Kick It's Yogi Barr, and our special guest this week is Kartik Krishnayer of the World Soccer Talk Podcast! World Soccer Talk is a podcast and website that for over 15 years extensively covers Soccer TV coverage in the US and around the world! This week we discuss the ongoing streaming wars in soccer, as several Euro leagues have switched to new network partners and streaming services. Serie A is now over with CBS/Paramount+ La Liga is now with ESPN/ESPN+ UEFA Champions League is now finally in its first year of full coverage with CBS and Paramount+, so fans will finally begin to see more Champions League games on CBSSN, and later matches in the tournament on the flagship CBS Network! Howver we kick off the show discussing the incident in Nice where OGC Nice Supporters stormed the field after Dimitri Payet returned a thrown water bottle into the supporter stands, causing the Sunday match between Nice and Marseille to be suspended. This incident interrupting the hoopla stirred by the arrival of Leo Messi to PSG while we were on break and we discuss the impact of said move especially as the rumor of Real Madrid going after Kylian Mbappe before the end of the transfer window begins to emerge.  Yet to make a network move is the Premier League, in their final contract year with NBC. We go over what direction they may be heading given all the changes to coverage since the arrival of NBC's Peacock streaming service last summer. We also touch on Arsenal's anemic start to the season and if Mikel Arteta may last in North London following last weekend's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea and this weekend's equally tough match against Man City (which might have a certain Ronaldo in the ranks by this weekend).  In the second half of the show, we move stateside and while there is nobody with Greggo to take glee in the Home Team's 4 game winning streak, the horn still goes toot toot! The focus then quickly shifts to the recent article in The Athletic where Inter Miami's failure to launch is exposed in detail. With Kartik being a South Florida resident and entrenched in the soccer business in the area, he provides his perspective on what exactly has gone wrong with Inter Miami since they finally went from perpetual delays to a team knee deep in league violations.  FTCUTD is a proud partner in The Alliance of Protagonist Podcasts!! You know you're in for trouble right at the start, when the pigeons begin rapping. Tim Story's Tom and Jerry opens to the strains of A Tribe Called Quest's classic “Can I Kick It?” as the camera swoops over the New York City skyline and finds Tom relaxing between subway cars and Jerry looking at rental properties with a shady rat real-estate agent. (“Wait till you see the next place. It just screams ‘Mouse House.' Wait, can I say that?”) Ignore the anachronism of lyrics like “Mr. Dinkins, will you please be my mayor?” — the idea here is presumably to situate Tom and Jerry in a modern-day version of the city. Maybe the filmmakers were just trying to cash in on the Secret Life of Pets gravy train, but it also makes some narrative sense: After all, the city is full of cats tasked with catching mice, in bodegas and apartments and even some movie theaters. But look, this is already way too much work to do for a Tom and Jerry movie. A cluttered, awkward, pandering mess, Tom and Jerry (which debuts on HBO Max today) is a good example of what happens when the filmmakers don't understand (or maybe just forget) what made their subject exciting in the first place. The classic Tom and Jerry cartoons were engines of wordless slapstick joy: fast, clever, and fun. While they have certainly gone through many iterations over the decades and are maybe not as well-regarded today — with little of the surreal inventiveness of Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner, or the wiseass narrative intricacy of Bugs Bunny & Co. — their thundering bluntness retains a primal cinematic appeal. (Besides, for all the show's simplicity, you could spend hours arguing over who was the good guy and who was the bad guy: the craven Tom, with his Sisyphean drive, or that ever-triumphant teacher's pet Jerry.) A nightly newsletter for the best of New York SIGN UP FOR ONE GREAT STORY Anyway, you'd think that a new Tom and Jerry feature film would prioritize the part where, you know, the cat chases the mouse. You would be wrong. Story's film sidelines its title characters to focus on the efforts of Kayla (Chloë Grace Moretz), a young woman who loses her bicycle delivery job and then lies her way into a gig at a fancy hotel as it prepares for “the wedding of the century” between two celebrity influencer types, Preeta (Pallavi Sharda) and Ben (Colin Jost). Kayla immediately draws the suspicions of the hotel's ambitious, snooty event manager Terence Mendoza (Michael Peña), even as she becomes friendly with the soon-to-be-weds. When Jerry wreaks havoc in the hotel's fancy kitchen and strikes fear in the hearts of management on the eve of the big day (“If a picture of this mouse is tweeted to the InstaBookFace, or the Ticky Tock, we will be ruined!”), the resourceful but out-of-her-element Kayla hires Tom to catch Jerry. For about ten minutes, at least. Tom and Jerry the film seems interested in just about everything but Tom and Jerry, with its elaborate (but somehow still totally half-assed) plot and its scenes of nonstop talk that pile unfunny jokes atop one another. These aren't bad actors: Moretz was once one of our most promising young performers, and Peña is among our most versatile. But they've clearly been directed to exaggerate wildly, perhaps in an effort to match the cartoons they're acting against. The result is a kind of gathering desperation, as if by making bigger facial expressions or talking faster the actors might be able to will laughs out of lines like “I'll catch it, sir. Him. Or her. It could be a female. I'm not gender-biased.” (Still, it could be worse. Even as everyone else hams it up, the stone-faced Colin Jost drifts through the film, seemingly asking himself the very question that is also on the audience's minds: Why is Colin Jost even in this movie?) --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

As we close out Black History Month, we have a special episode of the Stars & Stripes FC Podcast dedicated to one supporter who is using his platform to tell the stories that need telling. Elliot Barr is the co-host of the Can I Kick It Podcast, which covers Black soccer history, moments, and players. Since Juneteenth 2020, he and his co-host Chenier Durand II have brought stories and interviews about some of the great Black players in soccer history that aren’t getting the shine they deserve. The two are members of River City Red Army, a Richmond Kickers supporters group, and they cover the team and USL League One action on their second podcast, River City 93. We start out by discussing the Can I Kick It podcast and his motivation for starting it. We touch on some of the stories that he enjoyed the most, discuss the black supporters culture that has developed over the years, and we get into the conversation of teams and leagues failing to do the bare minimum when it comes to reaching out to Black communities and supporting Black History Month or its players. The boys are finally back (minus Sak) and here to stay. We apologize for leaving everyone high and dry for the last couple months with no reasoning whatsoever, but we have our LNO boys pumping out fire podcast after fire podcast to give us a little break. On this episode of Hash It Out, BVD & Zullo are joined by the host of the LNO podcast, Kip Bayless to discuss futbol and why the USMNT will never ever be any good. The MLB Playoffs are in full swing and the boys preview the ALCS matchup between the Yanks & the Stros. BVD's Eagles came out of Carolina last night with a huge W and Philly is now 5-1 & the second best team in the NFL #FlyEaglesFly. What in the hell is going on with Zullo's Pats? Sorry Kip, Zeke's suspension gets reinstated. Don't miss out on our newest award winning segment, "Can I Kick It" where we talk kickers (because we are the most kicker-friendly podcast on the planet). And of course we talk college football...Red River Rivalry, SEC & much more. #StayBiased
