Psalm 148:1-14 1 Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise him in the heights above. 2 Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his heavenly hosts. 3 Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars. 4 Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies. 5 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for at his command they were created, 6 and he established them for ever and ever— he issued a decree that will never pass away. 7 Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, 8 lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding, 9 you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, 10 wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds, 11 kings of the earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth, 12 young men and women, old men and children. 13 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens. 14 And he has raised up for his people a horn, the praise of all his faithful servants, of Israel, the people close to his heart. Praise the Lord!

How do we handle disappointment...with ourselves? When a notoriously sinful woman crashes a respectable dinner party, Jesus surprises everyone with his response. This is the final sermon in our "Finite Disappointment, Infinite Hope" teaching series. *Christ’s Church is a strategic partner of Grace Chapel in Lexington, MA and features the teaching of Pastor Bryan Wilkerson and the Grace Chapel Teaching Team.

On June 3, 2020—after the murders of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd—the Black presidents and deans of schools and departments of theology and religion released a statement, ”Black Presidents and Deans Say: No More Stolen Black Lives!”, with a list of concrete demands. That month, school leaders of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) responded with statements of solidarity: June 9, 2020: The Latin@ Presidents and Deans of Seminaries of the ATS post a video expressing solidarity “and what Martin Luther King Jr. called infinite hope.” This was followed by the June 17th ATS webinar “Black Lives Matter: Where Do We Go From Here.” June 18, 2020: Asian and Asian-descent presidents and deans of the ATS issue a statement of solidarity [PDF] with the Black and Latin@ presidents and deans. June 22, 2020: White Deans & Presidents of ATS Member Schools and Affiliates respond with a Letter of Solidarity and Accountability [PDF]. June 29, 2020: During their Biennial Open Forum for CEOs and CAOs, Presidents of ATS schools begin to answer one of the demands of the June 3, 2020 statement in a Black Lives Matter discussion [video]. Two prominent Latino theological school leaders involved in the June 9 statement are Dr. Frank Yamada, who currently serves as the 6th executive director of the ATS, and Dr. Luis Rivera, who has contributed to the work of ATS Chief Academic Officers Society and the ATS Committee on Race and Ethnicity. In this podcast episode, Dr. Yamada and Dr. Rivera discuss the declarations, unprecedented in the world of theological education.

Pastor Derek preaches from Philippians 1:12-20.
An infinite perspective requires faith beyond the black and white of things. The invitation today is to pause and think about the ways God activates His infinite hope in us and then makes us the evidence of infinite hope for others. God brings His infinite hope into clarity when we taste a bit of it through each other.
Today we’re gonna explore what is arguably the most phenomenal verse in the Bible. That’s quite a claim, isn’t? This verse is a declaration of infinite hope, and it is found in the Book of Romans, chapter 8, verse 28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
How are you feeling today? Disappointed? Frustrated? Hurt? If you or someone you know and care about can relate, today’s message will be of help. God has given us tools for facing times like these. Our current series is about learning them, applying them, and finding yourself reinvigorated through the power of God’s encouragement for us.
Do you love surprises? In this season of quarantine, maybe you’ve been surprised by God in some way. As we start our new series, Infinite Hope, we open taking a look at a story in Acts 16 that is full of surprises– some are puzzling and other times bewildering, but this chapter helps us see how to follow God and remain faithful.
In this podcast, Coach Nate again addresses the difference between disappointment and hope. he discusses the types of disappointment we have influence over vs the type we must accept. Most importantly, he encourages us to never lose infinite hope. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nate-battle/support

[Intro: 2:50] In this episode, I speak with Barbara Cecil and Dahr Jamail, co-authors of the ‘How Then Shall We Live?’ series published at Truthout. An excerpt: ’What I've learned is when you really listen, and I mean go really quiet — put all the mental jargon aside and just get really quiet and really, really humble and really listen to the Earth — then I believe that each one of us is going to get our own personal marching orders of “here's what you're going to do, here's what I need you to do.” That's where I've gotten my messages to go to Iraq, to do the book that I did with 'The End of Ice,’ and so many other big decisions in my life — and small ones. When I go out there, I listen and I get this clear message, and I always know what to do. And I really believe that now is that time for people to — don't run around and panic. Don't light your hair on fire. Don't go out and see what other ten more things you can do, or how many articles you can forward and all this. But just stop and get really, really quiet and touch down into the Earth and really listen and see what comes up into your heart. When you ask: “What is it that I need to do to really serve this planet?" — because I think if we do that, and in the proper context of understanding that it is too late…. You're not going to get all that heat out of the oceans. The oceans have absorbed ninety-three percent of the heat we've put into the atmosphere. That heat is staying there and it's increasing and it's not going to go away. We're not going to turn this thing around. In the context of knowing the great loss that's now upon us what is the most important thing for me to do? And for some people it might be "I need to play music,” and that's great because God knows we need music right now. And for some people it might mean "I'm going to write a book.” Barbara and my good friend Colin MacIntosh just went and got arrested, and he's in Extinction Rebellion. All power to him. To other people it might mean we're going to go shut this fucking shit down once and for all. Great. Please do. But my point is that if you really listen in closely and get that call for what you need to do, and understand that it's in the context that we really have nothing left to lose — I would argue that that's going to generate an activism and actions taken from love that could never happen in the context of "oh do this because this book tells you to do it,” or "go to this march because we're organizing it,” and "we have a permit on this date we're going to do this….” I'm talking about doing things way more radical and way further outside of the box than a lot of this stuff that we see happening right now. I'm talking about real risk.’ Barbara Cecil is the author of ‘Coming Into Your Own: A Woman's Guide Through Life Transitions.’ Barbara Cecil’s Master’s degree in speech communication and human relations has supported her in her calling to assist individuals, groups, teams, and organizations toward the full manifestation of their creative potential. Dahr Jamail is an award-winning journalist who (formerly) reported on climate disruption and environmental issues for the online publication Truthout. Dahr is the author of multiple books, including ‘The End Of Ice: Bearing Witness and Finding Meaning in the Path of Climate Disruption.'
