For this week's feel-good story, we go half way around the world to the democratic republic of Congo to shine a light on a man named Jay Nash and the organization he founded called StandProud.Mr. Nash first began assisting disabled people in the developing world when serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He resumed spare-time work with disabled Congolese youth upon returning to the Congo in 1998 to work for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and in 1999 helped them to organize themselves into a charity (ACDF) designed to assist other poor, disabled young people to obtain free orthopedic equipment. In 2000, he founded StandProud in the United States to serve as a funding source for the Congolese organization. Here in America, we are fortunate that polio has been all but eradicated. However, in other parts of the world, it is still a sad reality, and it leaves many destined to a life of dragging themselves down dirty streets in shame and humiliation as they are subjected to ridicule from their community and sometimes even their own family. Stand Proud builds and provides braces for these young men and women. They are a non-profit organization that has helped more than 5000 people stand up and walk. Jamie Wollam is a drummer who has toured with some of the most talented musicians on earth including, Tears for Fears, Jackson Browne, David Crosby, Tommy Shaw(Styx), Fee Waybil(The Tubes) and Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello’s solo project, The Nightwatchman."I started playing drums at the age of 13 after I saw KISS in concert at the Forum in Los Angeles. I was instantly mesmerized by Peter Criss and knew that this was what I wanted to do. My first teacher was my Uncle Rob and I began playing to records by Kiss, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Dio, Journey, Cheap Trick, and Aerosmith. At the age of 18, I attended P.I.T (The percussion division of the Musician’s Institute) in Hollywood, CA. I graduated with honors in 1989. Joe Porcaro, Ralph Humphrey, Steve Houghton, Chuck Flores, Toss Panos, and Richie (Gajate) Garcia are some of the greats I had the honor of learning from. I followed up with studying Gary Chester’s, The New Breed, concepts with Victor Loyo of Luis Miguel. My education was so important to me that I continued to study with as many people as I could. I began teaching drum lessons at the age of 19 at Ontario Music in Ontario, California.I gratefully landed my first professional touring gig with Michael Sweet, of the band, Stryper. Thus began my career as a touring and session drummer.I have been an active session player for many years and have had the honor of recording with Michael Sweet (Stryper), Guardian, Zache Brooke, The Brave, John Elefante (Kansas), Venice, Jay Nash, Mindy Gledhill, Michael Jackson, Kyle Vincent, Hillary Duff, Eric Hutchinson, Avion, Steve Bertrand, Drake Bell, G.E.M and currently, Tears for Fears.'

My latest EP, "Everything to Me" marks a courageous and exhilarating step toward a more exposed and authentic sound. All five songs represent different facets of my faith in life, in humanity and in love. Putting these songs out into the world required the perfect collaboration, and I'm infinitely grateful that Jay Nash, a long time friend and musical peer, teamed up with me to produce this EP with such care and sensitivity. Jay has aimed to pare down the extraneous harmonies, effects and solos so that my voice, lyrics and fiddle playing can be wholly revealed, inviting you into a more intimate experience of me and my songs. Eliza Moors first CD with producer Scott Mann,Called "Simplicity," it's a compilation of songs I wrote in London. There was a lot of fun and magic in the making of it. A few years later I recorded my second, "Beauty in Mystery" in Los Angeles, with the brilliant producer and internationally acclaimed jazz musician Deron Johnson. Back in Montréal I performed and recorded with the experimental electro-punk band Swedish Radar and played fiddle and sang with the bluegrass/roots group Althea Jean. Both of these bands are still active, but babies, book tours (bandmate Curt Stager), boat building (bandmate Everett Smith) and other such events have created a few detours along the way. In 2010 I had my baby boy Xavier, and life became more about being with family and treasuring bath time and sand box play. Jeremy and I have continued to write and record material together in a group we call, "JE", but this EP marks my next step back out into the world as, well, myself.
