Eric Nuttall, partner and senior portfolio manager at Ninepoint Partners, shares his outlook on Energy Stocks.
Host John Stepek speaks with Helen Jewell, International CIO of Fundamental Equities for EMEA at BlackRock, about an unexpectedly strong year for global equity markets — one in which most regions outside the US outperformed. Jewell explains why widespread diversification, renewed strength in European banks, and accelerating demand for energy infrastructure—driven largely by AI—are shaping her outlook for 2026. She also highlights key risks, including investor complacency, and argues that selective opportunities in European quality growth and UK small caps remain compelling despite recent volatility. This interview was taped at the Edelman Smithfield Investor Summit at the London Stock Exchange on Dec. 4, 2025. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In this Thanksgiving weekend edition of The KE Report, we first sit down with Dave Erfle to dig into the current consolidation in gold and silver, the surge in quality juniors, and what could still go wrong. In the second half, Josef Schachter breaks down why natural gas looks fundamentally stronger than oil, how LNG, data centers, and storage trends are reshaping the market, and where dividend and growth investors can find value in beaten-up energy names. Segment 1 & 2 - Dave Erfle, founder and editor of Junior Miner Junky, discussing gold's consolidation around a new floor near $4,000, silver's leadership as it builds support near $50, and the resulting strength and takeover activity among quality precious-metal miners. He also highlights sector risks, the impact of recent financings and dilution, limited tax-loss selling pressures, and how he's managing and rotating junior mining positions into year-end. Click here to visit the Junior Miner Junky website to learn more about Dave's investment letter - https://www.juniorminerjunky.com/ Segment 3 & 4 - Wrapping up the show is Josef Schachter, founder and editor of the Schachter Energy Report and the Eye on Energy report on Substack, who outlines a bullish case for natural gas driven by LNG exports, data-center demand, and tightening storage, while maintaining a cautious but opportunity-focused outlook on oil. He also highlights where investors can find value in dividend-paying and growth-oriented energy equities ahead of a potential multi-year sector uptrend. Eric Nuttall, partner & senior portfolio manager at Ninepoint Partners, shares his outlook on Energy Stocks.
Doc Jones, private activist resource investor and influencer on Ceo.ca and X/Twitter, joins us for his outlook on the precious metals, base metals, and energy sector and how he is positioned in select stocks within his portfolio. We start off getting the key macroeconomic factors that him more muted on outsized upside in both gold and silver, after such a big run in the precious metals related stocks so far this year, and really over the last few years. He points out that over the last 3 years that many of the quality PM producers are up 5x-10x or more, and that he had some developers up as much as 15x, so it was prudent to start harvesting gains and raising cash to deploy in other commodities and opportunities that hadn't run as much. With regards to the base metals companies, Doc Jones points out that a lot of the polymetallic deposits still have considerable exposure to gold, silver, platinum, and palladium as valuable co-credits. He mentions the rationale for his long-standing interest and key portfolio positions in Emerita Resources (TSX.V: EMO) (OTCQB: EMOTF) and Magna Mining (TSX.V: NICU) (OTCQB: MGMNF); which both have exposure and leverage to a blend of critical minerals and precious metals. He also highlights a new portfolio position, Canadian Copper (CSE: CCI), which also has a solid mix of exposure to both industrial metals and PMs. Wrapping up we shifted over to traditional energy getting his outlook on both oil and natural gas, but why he is favoring investing in Canadian heavy oil sands projects and natural gas projects. He goes on to extol the benefits of picking up quality energy stocks that pay investors good dividends while they are waiting for fundamental company catalysts and higher future energy prices. Doc Jones highlights Cardinal Energy Ltd. (TSX: CJ) as one example of such a company that he is positioned in. *In full disclosure, Doc Jones holds a position in these companies discussed at the time of this recording, but is not compensated by any company to market them. These are simply his views and opinions as to why he likes investing in them, but this is not investment advice. Volatility remains high, but the local market continues to hold firm. October brought a mix of global rate cuts, easing geopolitical tensions, and steady domestic data, keeping investors cautious but optimistic. With the RBA likely to stay on hold until 2026 and small-caps leading the way, selective investing remains key as markets balance risk and resilience. In this week's wrap, Sophia covers:(1:10): factors from abroad - the US economy and geopolitical landscape (1:40): domestic news and its impact on the market(2:53): key risks to watch looking forward(3:24): how the local market performed over the last trading week(4:11): the most traded stocks and ETFs this week(4:52): economic news items to look out for next week.
Record sales couldn't save Nasdaq listed Tesla and Netflix from steep share price falls this week, as the companies navigated everything from expiring tax credits and global regulatory risks to intense competition. Meanwhile, the ASX200 posted a 0.39% slide (Mon – Thurs), as a slump in materials stocks weighed on market gains. In this week's wrap, Grady covers:(0:26): why Tesla's latest results show record sales but falling profits (1:10): why Netflix missed third- quarter expectations (2:02): how Coco-Cola is navigating the tough market environment (2:49): earnings results from Woodside, Adairs & Air New Zealand (5:13): how the ASX200 performed this week so far(5:53): the most traded stocks & ETFs by Bell Direct clients (6:22): economic news items to watch out for.
A mixed day for the Aussie market, with the ASX200 finishing mostly flat, up just 3 points. Energy names were the stars, jumping more than 3% as oil prices surged following new US sanctions on Russian oil giants. Woodside climbed over 4% after announcing a strategic partnership, and Karoon Energy soared almost 10% on its quarterly update. Gold miners found some relief after yesterday’s heavy losses, with Regis Resources up 5%, while Fortescue gained 2.4% after posting record iron ore shipments. Super Retail Group slipped despite higher sales, and ASX shares eased after its AGM. Tonight, investors will be watching US jobs data and corporate results from Intel and Ford, before RBA Governor Michele Bullock speaks in Sydney tomorrow. Sean Brodrick, Editor of Wealth Megatrends, Supercycle Investor, Resource Trader, and contributing analyst to Weiss Ratings Daily, joins us to outline strategies for portfolio management during the pullbacks in gold, silver, antimony, rare earths, and energy stocks. Gold and silver are now retesting lower levels, in a corrective move that has been anticipated by many for some time. If $4,000 support is tested and breaks, then Sean makes a case for solid technical support at $3850 and $3,700, and believes it is unlikely we'll see a move below those in the medium-term. Sean had been advising his subscribers to take partial profits in a number of precious metals stocks since October 14th. He was happy to have raised the cash to be able to redeploy it into meaningful pullbacks, which have begun since the Friday of last week and then accelerated down further on Tuesday's trading session. He is quite interested to see how Q3 earnings season may trend starting with Newmont Corp's (NYSE: NEM, ASX: NEM) report afterhours this coming Thursday, and then filtering out into the rest of the senior and mid-tier PM producers. We discuss whether gold and silver need to keep hitting new all-time highs in the near-term to keep the momentum going in the PM stocks, or whether these stocks can actually keep making progress just based on rerating more in alignment with these higher underlying metals prices. Next we got into the blistering rally higher that we've seen in some of the critical minerals stocks like antimony and rare earth stocks on the back of Chinese export bans sending prices skyrocketing. He's got some exposure through United States Antimony Corp (NYSE:UAMY), and discussed their recent acquisition of another company to further grow their antimony and gold resources. Sean is also positioned in USA Rare Earth, Inc. (Nasdaq: USAR), because they have a compelling development project and domestic mine-to-magnet supply chain approach that may be able to attract some of those government funds earmarked for this sector. Wrapping up Sean shifted over briefly to how traditional energy with the oil and gas stocks, and solar have remained in a slump, but that they may become a sector to follow, along with his ongoing interest in the next-gen defense stocks consider whether this could be a contrarian area to follow more closely in the commodities sector. The ASX200 slipped a quarter of a percent as energy stocks weighed, following weaker oil prices and an OPEC+ decision to lift output. Tech, healthcare and property trusts provided rare gains, while winners included DroneShield, Life360 and uranium miners. On this Weekend's Show Rick Bensignor breaks down the Fed's gridlock, bond market uncertainty, and why industrials are quietly outperforming. Then Dan Steffens dives into energy market disruptions - from Middle East conflict to LNG trends - and outlines why Canadian natural gas producers may be the most overlooked contrarian trade of the summer. Segment 1 & 2 - Rick Bensignor, President of Bensignor Investment Strategies, shared his outlook on markets, emphasizing that the Fed remains on hold with no clear urgency to cut rates amid geopolitical risks and sticky inflation. He highlighted oil as the key market driver following its rebound due to the Iran-Israel conflict, but noted uncertainty remains with no clear trend. Rick also pointed to a stalled bond market and mixed equity sentiment, suggesting markets are rangebound with rotation into industrials and mega-cap tech, all while the risk of stagflation grows. Click here to visit the In The Know Trader website. Segment 3 & 4 - Dan Steffens, President of the Energy Prospectus Group, wraps up the show discussing how the escalating Israel-Iran conflict is fueling a $15 risk premium in oil prices, while also highlighting strong fundamentals in both oil and natural gas markets. He emphasizes that despite geopolitical uncertainty, upstream energy companies remain highly profitable with rising cash flow, and sees Canadian gas producers as a contrarian opportunity amid improving LNG demand and storage dynamics. Sean Brodrick, Editor of Wealth Megatrends and contributing analyst to Weiss Ratings Daily, joins us to outline why he is not convinced in the Wall Street narrative that the worst parts of the tariff implications are behind us, based on macroeconomic data he is following including the weakness in the US long bond, US dollar, and business guidance through year end. He is only holding the highest conviction sectors like gold, precious metals stocks, dividend paying mid-tier oil and gas stocks, and utility stocks, in this continued environment of uncertainty. We start off discuss the continued challenges to trade barriers, issues with the US deficit and increased debt loads, and international buyers still scaling out of US markets to repatriate funds into their own domestic stock markets. Sean has been bullish European defense stocks, South American fintech and water stocks, and even Canadian stocks, although he's not yet transitioned to buying Japanese stocks at this point. He is not convinced that large US tech stocks are in the same kind of safe upward trajectory that they have been for years and believe AI and other foreign platforms may be a threat to some domestic large-cap tech stocks. With regards to the commodities sector, Sean is constructive that this recent pullback in gold has been a buying opportunity and is still bullish both gold and silver stocks in the medium-term. He is also is getting interested in accumulating the better run intermediated oil and natural gas stocks that pay good dividends and may be the acquisition targets of the larger energy companies. He likes nat gas power as a bridge energy for big data companies and AI, and still sees value in the utility stocks. This leads into a discussion on why he's still bullish in the longer-term for copper and copper equities, but doesn't feel it is as imminent or urgent to get positioned. We're experimenting and would love to hear from you!In this episode of ‘Discover Daily', we explore groundbreaking developments in AI technology and their far-reaching implications. Leading the headlines is Google's release of Gemini 2.0, introducing three powerful models - Flash, Pro, and Flash-Lite - each tailored for specific use cases and offering enhanced performance capabilities. We also delve into how the EU's Digital Markets Act is reshaping the iOS app landscape, with the controversial release of Hot Tub marking a significant shift in Apple's traditionally strict content policies. Our main story focuses on DeepSeek's revolutionary R1 AI model, which promises to transform the energy sector with its unprecedented efficiency gains. This Chinese startup's innovation has triggered a dramatic sell-off in energy stocks, with major players like Constellation Energy and Vistra experiencing substantial declines. The development challenges previous assumptions about AI's growing energy demands and could potentially reshape the future of data center infrastructure and power consumption patterns. The implications of DeepSeek's breakthrough extend beyond immediate market reactions, potentially accelerating the transition to renewable energy sources and forcing a reassessment of planned energy infrastructure expansions. With current projections suggesting AI-driven data centers could consume up to 12% of U.S. electricity demand by 2028, this efficiency breakthrough could fundamentally alter the trajectory of energy consumption in the tech sector and influence how companies approach their sustainability goals. From Perplexity's Discover Feed:https://www.perplexity.ai/page/google-s-gemini-2-0-now-availa-.jZH0lMHSSWdnsRf4nHWxwhttps://www.perplexity.ai/page/first-iphone-porn-app-controve-v6tz6uHVTfu.3v6lWPmeAwhttps://www.perplexity.ai/page/deepseek-upends-energy-industr-Ce9aHa1nSZyHcFbXWnCTrQ Perplexity is the fastest and most powerful way to search the web.
