An assortment of updates for those coming to the very first UpLift Live conference in Birmingham on 21 March 2024. See you there! TRANSCRIPT Hi, and welcome back to the UpLift Live podcast. As we are now less than 2 weeks away from UpLift Live, which is the UK's first LinkedIn-focused conference, here is an update from the recent work that we've done to prepare for the event. First of all, the LaunchPad Zoom calls, you may have attended some of our pre-conference LaunchPad Zoom calls. These were for attendees to get to know each other ahead of the big day. We planned to run 4 of them, but they've been popular enough that we're fitting in an extra one, which will take place at 1pm UK time on Wednesday 13 March. So, stay tuned for the Zoom link if you have an in-person ticket. There's no agenda to these calls. It's just a bit of fun to see the faces that you're going to meet on the day of the conference. And in fact, you might meet them before then because there's a pre-party. So, we've organised a pre-party event at The Cosy Club on Bennetts Hill in Birmingham on 20 March 2024, the night before UpLift Live. And this will be for in-person ticket holders only. And it starts at 7pm. It's a really fab venue that's been used to host the popular SMM Meetup events that have gone on in the past couple of years. I'm having dinner with the conference speakers just before the pre party. So, I expect most if not all of them, are going to be around for some of the rest of the evening. So, it's a perfect chance for you to say hi to them. I've never really liked the "them and us" vibe that you get at some conferences, so we're all going to be together and mix as equals. I put out a LinkedIn poll in mid February to ask how many people would be coming to the pre-party and that got 76 yeses, but I'm sure many of our attendees will have missed that poll. So, I expect even more people to be there on the evening. So, if you've got a ticket to the conference, then you're going to be able to come to that pre-party and get yourself a free drink as well. The original vision when we started to plan this conference in the middle of 2023 was that we would focus on creating an in-person event. We've currently issued almost 200 tickets to our conference and all of which, almost all of which, I should say, will be for that in-person experience, which is on Thursday 21 March 2024. In Birmingham in the United Kingdom. Everyone with a ticket will be able to watch high quality recordings of all of the talks, and they will be fully captioned and transcribed. The replays will also be available to people with an on-demand ticket. We've decided not to livestream the talks on the day just to be sure that we don't have any technical issues that might detract from the experience, but we'll do our best to get the polished replays available to all ticket holders as soon after the event as possible. We've published our agenda for the day on the UpLift Live website at uplift-live.com but I'll repeat it here. If you do need to check anything, please do look at the website in the first instance just in case we need to make any late changes. So, the conference will start at 9.30am and finish at 5pm. With networking going on until 7pm. It's going to be a single-track conference where each speaker will take the stage individually throughout the day, followed by a group Q&A featuring all of the speakers together. So, registration is going to be from 8.45 until 9.30, and then we'll have an intro to the conference between 9.30 and 9.45. Louise Brogan is taking the stage from 9.45 to 10.15, talking about maximising the impact of your LinkedIn company page. Nigel Cliffe is next from 10.20 until 10.50. With advanced ways to search LinkedIn both on and off the platform, including some tips for Sales Navigator. Then we're taking a break for half an hour. And then it's Mark Williams from 11.20 to 11.50, talking about how to do good research through "ethical stalking" on LinkedIn. Then there'll be my turn. So, John Espirian, from 11.55 through to 12.25, on the topic of how to be influential and memorable on LinkedIn, then we'll take half an hour or rather a full hour for break for lunch. Then after lunch at 1.25 we have Gillian Whitney talking about live stream tips for creating live videos on LinkedIn. Then it's Kevin D Turner from 2.00 till 2.30 talking about advanced tips on LinkedIn best practice and look at some of the new LinkedIn features that have come about of late. Then we'll have another half an hour break. And then it's time for Tiina Jarvet, who is going to be talking between 3.00 and 3.30 on best practice advice for discoverability on LinkedIn, and the look at how the platform looks from the recruiter's point of view. And then the last individual talk will be from Richard van der Blom at 3.35, who's going to talk about improving social selling by understanding the algorithms and your data on LinkedIn. Then we're going to move into the expert Q&A. So, we're hoping to give about 50 minutes minutes to that. So, all speakers will be on the stage to finish the day, answer your questions, and it's going to be your chance to really quiz the best of the best. And then we'll close at 5 o'clock. But as I say, we'll have a couple of hours for networking as we wind things down. All of the talks are going to focus on sharing expert insight about best practice for using various bits of LinkedIn. And that means that we're not going to do any cringey selling from the stage. Everyone taking the stage has previously been featured in my Friday Shout posts, and they're all good people as well as being highly knowledgeable about their subject matter. And for what it's worth, based on a quick calculation, the speakers together have a combined 126+ years of experience in using LinkedIn. And I'm certain that each of them will have something of interest for you to take away from the conference and apply in the way that you show up on LinkedIn. So, that lunch and refreshments. So, we've thought about this one, and we've created a healthy menu that includes plenty of vegan and gluten-free options. We'll also have tea and coffee throughout the day, including some dairy-free options for the drinks, and also some pastries and fruit at the breakfast as well. As well as the talks, there's going to be a couple of fun extras on the day. I couldn't in all good conscience put my name to a boring conference. Plus, I'm going to start rolling out a new benefit for new and existing Espresso+ members. So, those who have a yearly subscription to our community of small business owners will be getting a nice little bonus that I hope that they find useful. I must say I didn't know how much effort it would be to put on a conference but I'm really thankful to be supported by my co-organisers, Jeremy Freeman and Gus Bhandal. So, the 3 of us make up the Mission Control team. But it doesn't stop there. Because we will have be having help on the day from a small group of very kind volunteers and we shouldn't forget that the event also has sponsors whose support has meant that we've been able to keep the ticket prices as low as we could for this very first version of the UpLift Live conference. Our principal sponsors are Flamingo Marketing Strategies, Milico and DOHR, and CRAI Glass are going to be doing our live captioning and auto translation on the day, too. But big thanks to everyone who's been in our corner. We're finally close to the big day, and we really can't wait to see you there in person. So, if you want to get involved with the UK's first independently run event of its type, all about LinkedIn best practice, we've got 8 of the world's best LinkedIn specialists on stage and there will only ever be one first conference. So, you can be there by grabbing a ticket at uplift-live.com. And depending on when you listen to this, you might be able to get the best price possible. Prices are going to go up by £100 on Thursday, 14 March 2024. So, go and grab your ticket soon. On behalf of Mission Control, this is John Espirian saying over and out! UpLift Live Mission Control

Keep rocking LinkedIn by taking control of your personal branding and exploring the new platform features. In this episode, my guest, Kevin D. Turner, shares invaluable insights on enhancing your LinkedIn profile. Discover the power of making small but impactful changes, leveraging LinkedIn's AI features, and the power of free resources for your network. How to Use AI on LinkedIn You can use AI to write your headline and personal summary. Use AI as a starting point for creating more personal posts. The more you use LinkedIn's built-in AI features, the more it will learn your writing style. Enhancing Your LinkedIn Profile with Personal Branding Showcasing your personal brand on LinkedIn is something we can all do more of. My guest, Kevin D. Turner, shares his thoughts on how you can keep rocking LinkedIn by showcasing your personality on the platform. As Kevin says, If you don't own your own brand, someone is going to own it for you. One thing you can do that makes a big difference is to make little changes to your LinkedIn profile. As a personal branding expert, Kevin encourages you to utilise LinkedIn's built-in AI features to help sharpen your profile and make it more accessible to recruiters and other search engines. It's also really important to create free resources for your network. When you're inundated with messages and requests, having a YouTube channel, course, blog, or LinkedIn newsletter, to name a few, provides valuable content while saving you time – and establishing yourself as an expert in your field. The Future of AI and LinkedIn LinkedIn continuously introduces new features and updates to enhance user experience. However, as Kevin points out, these updates are not rolled out to everyone at the same time. Understanding how LinkedIn's rollouts work and why they adopt this approach is important. One of Kevin's favourite new features is LinkedIn's built-in AI. One feature that's still in development is the AI-powered headline and personal summary generator. You can also use this AI as a starting point for creating tailored content to post. LinkedIn has also launched an exciting new AI-powered Job Seeker Coach, which aims to provide personalised guidance for people seeking employment on LinkedIn. How do you show up on LinkedIn? Have you explored any of LinkedIn's AI features yet? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. Unleash the power of personalized branding and ditch that "3 Shades of Gray" In a world saturated with images, the pictures on your profile are your first impression. Are you sending the right message? Many people settle for the default banner, unknowingly sending the message that they're generic, uncreative, or just don't care. But what if your banner could be a powerful tool for personal branding, showcasing your personality, interests, and expertise? Kevin and I discuss the pitfalls of accepting the "3 Shades of Gray" default and how you can create a personalized banner that helps you stand out from the crowd. An update on LaunchPad call 1 and news about the next call. TRANSCRIPT And I'm so glad you're putting this together because we need this for our community, we need this for bonding, we need this for learning. And I'm so proud of you, the three of you, for putting this event together because I know how hard it is. Welcome back to the UpLift Live podcast. My name is John Espirian and I'm one of the Mission Control team for the UpLift Live conference which is the first of its type conference in the UK in Birmingham in March 2024. In the buildup to the event, we decided to create a set of Zoom calls so that attendees of the conference could get to know each other. The first of these so-called "LaunchPad" calls happened at the end of October and it was a great success. We had almost 40 of the conference attendees showing up, including some of our speakers on the big day. The whole point of the LaunchPad calls is to break the ice ahead of time so that when we arrive in Birmingham, many of us will already know each other and there won't be any need for that awkward, stuttering bit that you get at the start of most networking events. Here's a quick snippet of the discussion from LaunchPad call 1, and you're now going to hear the voices of Niraj Kapur, Kim Johnson, Kevin D Turner – who's one of our conference speakers – and Mic Adam. You know, I asked LinkedIn twice, this is 2 years ago and last year about doing a LinkedIn conference like Salesforce style how Salesforce do it with Dreamforce. I said, look, I spent 15 years in events, it'll be fantastic to do this. And I'm so glad you're putting this together, because we need this for our community. We need this for bonding, we need this for learning. And I'm so, so proud of you, the three of you, for putting this together, because I know how hard it is putting an event together. It's such hard work. And I don't think people will realise how much of your life it takes up. So, I wanted to say a massive thank you to you and Gus and Jeremy for doing this. Really can't wait for the chance to meet Gillian from Vegas and Tiina from Europe. I mean, this is just amazing. It really is. I just wanted to chime in and say, I've never been on a Zoom call with more than 10 people where every single person has their video enabled. So, kudos to all of you. I've never seen anything like this. And I'm looking forward to seeing all of you in person. But it's everybody that's in the audience. I mean, it is really, John, turned out to be the who's who of LinkedIn. And so that to me is fantastic. I wish it were 3 days. I want to thank you, John, for organising all the things that were on my bucket list, which is: I want to meet a bunch of these people that are already in this call and all the people that are speaking, but I've heard from other people that they're coming. So, you've organised for me the perfect bucket list. How could I not be excited to be there? Isn't that lovely? So, if you come to conference, you'll meet those nice people and plenty of others. Now, we want to have some more of that good spirit again so we are organising a second LaunchPad call. That next call is scheduled for Friday 8 December at 1pm UK time, and we'll be in touch with ticket holders with the Zoom link. I'm trying to organise each call for a different time so that we can do something that suits our audience and give everyone a chance to take part. Don't worry if you missed the first call or if you can't make the second call, as we'll have a couple more of these in early 2024. You are welcome to come along to the LaunchPad calls so long as you have a ticket to the UpLift Live conference. We've now sold more than 100 tickets, which is not bad going as we still have several months before the conference. If you'd like to get a ticket, you can join us via uplift-live.com. We know that some people would prefer to spread their payments rather than paying outright so we've created uplift-live.com/plan which has a payment plan option via a service called Klarna. This will give you a chance to pay for your conference ticket in 3 instalments. And it's interest-free. One of the bit of news for now: we've updated the ticket-buying page so that you can include the name of anyone who referred you to join us at the conference. We're doing this so we can reward the people who are spreading the good word about the event. If you've already got a ticket, do let your colleagues know to mention your name when buying their ticket and you'll get a little reward as a result. OK, that will do for this update. Thanks again for all of the lovely comments and DMs and posts about the event. It's all much appreciated as we build towards our launch in March. So, for now, this is John Espirian for Mission Control saying … over and out.UpLift Live Mission Control

Time for another speaker, and it's the awesome Kevin D Turner. He's coming from Texas to speak onstage in Birmingham at UpLift Live about advanced LinkedIn strategies. TRANSCRIPT I'm one of those that I believe that artificial intelligence can be an incredible muse but it's never going to be a complete artist. Welcome back to the UpLift Live podcast. This is John Espirian from the Mission Control team for UpLift Live, which is the UK's first LinkedIn-focused conference for LinkedIn specialists, power users and enthusiasts. OK, time for another speaker, and this time we're heading to Texas to talk with one of the absolute top names of LinkedIn: Kevin D Turner. He has phenomenal knowledge of so many aspects of LinkedIn, and he is a number one person for staying on top of new features and changes. Let's hop aboard and get to the interview with Kevin! Kevin D Turner, welcome to the UpLift Live conference podcast. Thank you so much for being here. Tell everyone a little bit about who Kevin D Turner is. How did you get involved in LinkedIn? And what do you know about LinkedIn anyway? I first want to say thank you for having me here. It's an honour. I love what you're doing with UpLift Live. I think it's going to be incredible. And I'm excited to be there, not just to present but to learn and listen and connect with everybody else who is presenting there, because they're all incredible. And they see things in different ways. And that, to me, is really exciting. You know, so for me, it's a learning experience as well, as well as a sharing experience. Personally, I've been involved with LinkedIn since 2005. Actually, it may have been earlier, but I think I set up an account and then forgot how to log in. I was in that first 2 million, right, got the little letter from LinkedIn that said thank you for being in the first group. Been very active ever since. And it has actually helped me in my, I guess, career, in the sense, I've had 6 pivots in my career, each one I made choices. And about halfway through that career, LinkedIn came into effect, right. And I started to rebrand myself on LinkedIn when I was ready for these pivots. And it allowed me to do that. And that to me was fascinating. The other component of that, I had done a lot of international business. I've actually lived in several countries, I've done business in 140 countries, and I had these connections. And before LinkedIn, it was very difficult to stay connected, right, emails, you know, this was, you know, prior to all this advanced conferencing that you could do, LinkedIn became that connection. It allowed me to keep contact with all those people. So, I became very active. And that, to me, was a connectivity, and I truly believe that this is the platform for networking. And networking always beats not working, right, whether you're looking for a job or it's just that next opportunity, if you're not talking to people, if you're not out there finding out what they need, what you can help them with what you need, what they can help you with, if you're not doing that, then you're really kind of behind the 8 ball, right? You're always then trying to find something, whereas those things will find you if you network. And that's one of the most incredible, I think, features of LinkedIn, right, that nobody talks about as a feature. But it's that ability to network on a global scale, on a mass scale, and on a personal scale. And you and I have met through LinkedIn. So, this event will be our time to actually like real life meet, right? I don't even know how tall you are. And all these things, you know. So, that, to me, is incredible. And it's even more exciting. And we build everything here on LinkedIn together, you know, in that sense of that relationship. And I think, to me, that's the best part about being here. Yeah, fantastic. And I am so grateful for having the LinkedIn platform for meeting people around the world. And I certainly wouldn't have met the likes of you without this kind of connection platform, it is fantastic for that. What we haven't said anything about is the fact that you're now probably the most known person on LinkedIn with regards to sharing new features about the platform. So, you're a personal brand strategist. But you always come to mind whenever something changes, or something is new on LinkedIn. And I do wonder whether you sleep at times, because you're sharing so much good value stuff. Now, one of the challenges we have in a podcast several months ahead of time is that there's no way you can predict what LinkedIn is going to do several months down the line. But maybe you could tell us something about where you think LinkedIn is going, or maybe how many new features have we even seen in 2023? And how many do you think we might see in the next coming year? What do you think, Kevin? I'll cover all that. But first thing I want to say is, I can't do this alone. It takes a tribe I always say you know of eagle-eye and sharing hearts. People come to me because they know I'm going to share that I'm going to give them credit in the process. And we come together. Without that I couldn't do it. I used to do it when LinkedIn would have 40 features a year. That was easy, right? No biggie. And everybody kind of knew. Now, with the pace that they are implementing these new features. I couldn't do it all by myself. So, I have to give credit. I know you're even in there a couple of times for discovering things in the wild. We call it captured in the wild. That's how it works. And that's one of the things if you learn on LinkedIn that you don't have to compete, you can collaborate, even if you're doing the exact same thing. We're looking at a global market. Yeah. And the opportunity is there. So, that's the thing that drives me. Now, LinkedIn itself, I really think there's going to be a lot more AI involved in LinkedIn. And there's a plus and a minus to that, right? I'm one of those that I believe that artificial intelligence can be an incredible muse but it's never going to be a complete artist. And people need to realise that and it can also be the worst muse, right? Like any muse can be, it could get you in trouble really quickly. And it is your name, your brand, be careful. But LinkedIn is going to start implementing a lot more AI. And they're going to position it towards Premium as they as they have been doing. And that's because LinkedIn isn't really a social good site. We get social good from it, but it's a business. And they've realised, we've got to start adding things to Premium. So, we're going to see a lot more Premium additions that we don't see anywhere else, and a lot more AI into Premium, because that seems to be where they're placing it. So, that to me is a big change. How many we've had this a year, so far, we're sitting at about 127 new LinkedIn features. And a couple dozen changes, because I don't even call some of these things are changes, they might be changing in wording. You know, those are just changes. These are real, actual features. And they're coming. And I've got another 4 or 5 this week that we're trying to get in there and define because often somebody will find something and goes, this looks different. And we got to research it, is it really different? Because there's so much going on. And then you got to figure out, what does it mean? What are the impacts? What does it look like? How do we capture it? And then begin to share the process, and at the same time help people manage the frustration of I don't have it yet. And sometimes I don't have it yet, right? You might have it, you know, all different people may have it at different times. That's just part of the process. But when we share in this sense, we give everybody a little bit of empowerment. You know, they know what's coming. They know how to plan, they know how to explain, they don't get in front of people and present and get embarrassed because something, what is that, right? Or where did that go? They shouldn't have that knowledge. And to me, I just I love being in part of that process. And I can't take credit for it. But I definitely like to be there. Yeah, fantastic. And one of the great things about getting together in a room is that first of all, that will beat the whole AI thing, because we'll be actually, you know, hugging in the same room. But also it'll give us a bit more time where we're not just talking about here's a load of new features, but also some strategic chat about, why is any of this relevant? What do you really need to know to change in your business to make use of this new thing, or this thing that's changed? So, all of that strategic chat will be happening in Birmingham on Thursday, 21 March 2024. It's in Birmingham, UK, you can buy a ticket now. And it's uplift-live.com If you want to come and see one of the absolute apex operators of LinkedIn talking in Kevin D Turner, come and join us. The Community Top Voices program is a brand new program being rolled out in conjunction with Collaborative Articles. Unlike LinkedIn's invitation-only Top Voices program, the Community Top Voices program is dependent on input from you and feedback from the LinkedIn community. You can earn a Community Top Voice badge when members find you to be one of the most noteworthy contributors to collaborative articles for a particular skill. Of course the questions many are asking is how you get started AND what all does it take to earn that coveted gold badge on your profile?
