We had the pleasure of interviewing Danny Dwyer over Zoom video!Hailing from St. Louis, MO, Danny is an LA-based singer/songwriter & producer whose genreless music straddles indie rock, alternative, pop, and everything in between. He grew up learning jazz and playing in punk bands which eventually led him to college in Los Angeles where he studied music and started working on his solo artist project.Following a break-up in 2017, Danny turned to writing as he released his first song ‘What You Want' as part of a school assignment. Mixing contemporary R&B with his love of indie music, the song's early success inspired him to pursue his solo artist project. A genre chameleon, Danny seamlessly straddles different musical styles and sounds, bringing in diverse musical influences from his childhood and development. Recent collaborators include Benny Sings, Billy Lemos, Roy Blair, Ritt Momney, Magdalena Bay, RAC, Maria Isabel, Kllo, Maude Latour, Chloe Lilac, MILK, Marcos G, Jelani Aryeh, Brandon Banks and more.Danny's music has been featured in playlists such as Spotify's Lorem, Mellow Morning, Mellow Mood, Fresh Finds and Alternative R&B and Apple's INDIY, Day One and more. Danny has also received press from outlets such as Pigeons & Planes, OnesToWatch and Office amongst others. Mortal Kombat” is the fifth single off the anti-pop artist and producer's upcoming debut double EP, Losers, an emotional portrayal of liberated youth. The EP is a love letter and a goodbye note to his rural stomping grounds of the Midwest. “I used to feel the need to exploit as much as possible from any opportunity,” Danny says of the way LA twisted him. “Now I want to work on my bike and make sense of where I come from and where I am. All of these things I've compartmentalized for so long are now colliding.” The result is a collection of coming-of-age songs that have one foot in Friday Night Lights and another in Harmony Korine's Kids.

Stu locks into the house beats in this mix while layering on top plenty of synth lines that will keep you dancing. Remixes of Kllo and Maribou State start things off. Then cuts from NAVVI and Octo Octa take the mix to a breakbeat groove that will have you nodding your head. Even though the mix mellows out by the time another great K-rAd track kicks, the backend of the mix is full of disco house vibes. A killer remix of Smokey Brights by Rudy Willingham jams along with an 'Old School' mix of Oliver Stumm. DJ Koze finishes off the mix with a classic tune. Tracklisting: Kllo - Bolide (Lone Remix) Maribou State - Nervous Tics (feat. Holly Walker) (Maceo Plex Remix) NAVVI - Human Octo Octa - Ecstatic Beat Light Year - Come Together Mark E - Being Hiding (Laszlo Dancehall Remix) Ella Fitzgerald - Blue Skies (Maya Jane Coles Remix) Lusine - Cirrus K-rAd - Those Chords Octo Octa - Move Your Body Smokey Brights - Flash Your Lights (Rudy Willingham Remix) Oliver Stumm - Manix! So first off, thanks for all the positive feedback on the last episode. People like the jams! Or at least that mix fired up the people that like to provided feedback. I was very conflicted on that episode because it was so long but I just had so much trouble making cuts! Glad it worked out. Also glad y'all are making use of the Spotify playlists, which you can find here. It's slow going but I am backfilling. Eventually they'll all be up. However, I'm finding for the early podcasts many songs are not on Spotify. You'll have to just check the original episode. I've been listening to the really old episodes and I had forgotten, they used to be less than ten tracks. And once again got me thinking about the pro and cons of playlist size creep. I think less than ten is too short for a podcast that only comes out monthly but then again, for the most part, I think 30 is too many. Sometimes it's okay though. And occasionally it has to happen! With that in mind, brought down the editorial ax much more severely on this episode. It went through a lot of revisions. The original feel I was going for changed dramatically but it is 100% prime cuts now, start to finish. Couple comments and corrections to the voice over. First, I misspoke. I first featured Maribou State not on podcast 55 as I said but instead on podcast 52, Understated House. Coincidentally, it was the first episode I featured Rufus (now Rufus du Sol). And second, I realized why I found that guitar sample on the Nightmares on Wax track so familiar. It's because Pretty Lights used the same sample for his song Finally Moving. Who sampled it first? Hard to say since both albums were released in 2006 but my money is on N.O.W. since he's the vet. I only realized today that the album I linked to for "You Wish" wasn't the classic In A Space Outta Sound but was instead from N.O.W. Is the Time, a best of compilation from Nightmares on Wax celebrating his 25 year career as the longest serving artist on Warp Records. And now I realize with all that talking I've said almost nothing about the actual music on offer today. Eh. Just listen. It's good. Thanks for listening and don't forget to support the artists. In this mix, Stu starts things off with a slow, ambient feel that rolls through tracks from DJ Shadow, Kllo and a remix of Logan Takahashi by Kaazi. The vibe picks up with a muted disco flavor from Ulfur Eldjarn that will have you putting your hands in the air. In the last part of the mix, Marcus Marr lays down a danceable beat and the mix ends with upbeat remixes of Tosca and L-Vis 1990 to contrast the laid back vibes that started the mix. I want to thank all of you for your patience with me getting this next episode out.
