FAUZIA (@djfauzia) is an artist who is always evolving. The UK DJ, producer and live act first broke through as a DJ who played fast music be it techno, electro, IDM or bass-heavy breaks. Her famous NTS has always shown a different side, where anything from soul to jazz can be called upon to tell a story. As a producer since 2020, she has tended to mine a more emotive side with releases that explore dub, ambient and jungle. She has also done pop collabs with Kelela and sings ever more on her own material. Basically, she is anything but easy to categorise, and instead works in many different worlds with equal style and skill. For this week's mix, FAUZIA focuses on the dance floor with a thrilling 90-minute selection. The scene is first set with some escapist ambience, deep and beatless jungle and spine-tingling vocals but then some serious breakbeats arrive. They come thick and fast and take on many forms from heavy and apocalyptic to blissed out and astra. FAUZIA's own voice occasionally arrives to lend them a personal, intimate quality while the mix grows faster and more futuristic. It's a showcase that's as brilliant in taste as it is in technique.

As developing states adopt neoliberal policies, more and more working-class women find themselves pulled into the public sphere. They are pressed into wage work by a privatizing and unstable job market. Likewise, they are pulled into public roles by gender mainstreaming policies that developing states must sign on to in order to receive transnational aid. Their inclusion into the political economy is very beneficial for society, but is it also beneficial for women?  In The Stigma Matrix: Gender, Globalization, and the Agency of Pakistan's Frontline Women (Stanford UP, 2024), Fauzia Husain draws on the experiences of policewomen, lady health workers, and airline attendants, all frontline workers who help the Pakistani state, and its global allies, address, surveil, and discipline veiled women citizens. These women, she finds, confront a stigma matrix: a complex of local and global, historic, and contemporary factors that work together to complicate women's integration into public life. The experiences of the three groups Husain examines reveal that inclusion requires more than quotas or special seats. This book advances critical feminist and sociological frameworks on stigma and agency showing that both concepts are made up of multiple layers of meaning, and are entangled with elite projects of hegemony. FAUZIA is an artist of many moods. The UK talent moves from IDM to soul on her NTS Radio residency, while her club DJ sets reveal her love for '90s-style breaks, electro and bass-heavy sounds. In the studio, she explores her softer side through self-released homespun dub and ambient jungle. In recent years, she's gravitated towards live performances. Her gossamer vocals, one of her strongest suits, cuts through live instrumentation like a hummingbird in agile flight. In 2020, the London-based talent told Mixmag that she was done being categorised as a "dance music" artist—and so far, she's succeeded. While she incorporates clubby touchstones into her work, there's a deep level of cross-genre knowledge and blending at play. FAUZIA's RA podcast makes that clear. Free of any four-to-the-floor music, it moves from experimental jazz to orchestral melodies to R&B ballads for a thoughtful and introspective journey full of her own unreleased music that points towards her newer interest in composition. This is music to be felt, so let your guard down and let it wash over you. @FAUZIA Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/926

Arifa Akbar tells Michael Berkeley about her nocturnal life as a theatre critic and her desire to tell the story of her sister's death from tuberculosis. Arifa Akbar almost never has a quiet night in; as chief theatre critic of the Guardian she is out reviewing a production almost every evening. She also sits on the boards of the Orwell Foundation and of English PEN, and judges prizes including the UK Theatre Awards and the Women's Prize for Fiction. In conversation with Michael Berkeley, she discusses the book she wrote about the death of her older sister, Fauzia, from tuberculosis, in which she explores Fauzia's troubled life and why the medical profession failed to diagnose her illness until it was too late. Arifa chooses music from Bollywood films which remind her of her childhood, which was split between a prosperous and lively extended family in Lahore and poverty and social isolation in London. And she reveals how, after the death of her sister, she began to explore the tubercular heroines of nineteenth-century opera. Initially repelled by the glamorization of these women dying awful deaths, she has now come to love the music of Verdi and Puccini. Producer: Jane Greenwood A Loftus Media production for BBC Radio 3

On THE Amicable Divorce Expert podcast this week we have Fauzia Khan as our guest. Fauzia shares her journey as a professionally and financially successful woman prior to meeting her narcissistic husband. He was also successful in business. They both shared the same interests in travel, music, dining. It seemed like a match made in heaven: He “love bombed” her at the onset of their relationship, prioritized her, cooked for her, and proposed to her in 90 days of knowing her. Fauzia was treated like a queen, but by a king with an agenda.   And once he had her in his narcissistic spell, she could do nothing right. Everything thing she did was wrong, in his eyes: She was asked to give up her career in banking to manage his company, where she was continually criticized. She couldn't visit her family, who lived in the same town, and she couldn't go out with her friends. Her entire life became devoted to serving her husband's need personally and professionally, to the point where she hardly slept.   Her family and friends didn't recognize her; she had changed so much to please her husband. Yet the marriage was less than loving. You see, there is no way to please a narcissist. They are an endless well of need, requiring obedience and adulation, lots of personal accommodation, and an acceptance of their priority in the relationship.   Something had to give, and it did. Fauzia found out he had another relationship, and she filed for divorce. The divorce has lasted four years. Fauzia conceded her community share of the business, investment real estate, and any type of financial support. And her husband still wouldn't settle. It wasn't until a trial date was set that he agreed to mediation. You see, a narcissist has to be in control, and having a Judge as the decision-maker would be giving up control. So as many times as mediation was suggested in the past, he only agreed to it when his authoritarian hand was called.   When the love bombing starts, take a step back. Love bombing is the first step in setting the trap, blindsiding you with cinematic. The danger in thinking that love bombing is an expression of healthy love hits at the core of many women's fantasies of being cherished, adored, and emotionally understood to the point that the narcissist is seen as the knight in shining armor. Beware of false princes before you. As good as this rush of love feels, it will ultimately destroy you.   Love bombing is always followed by “gaslighting”. Gaslighting means the victim can't do anything right. The victim goes from loved and adored to always wrong. And it happens so fast that you're not ready for this seismic shift in the relationship that the victim doesn't have time to think. You see, the victim is now in the role of being a “narcissist pleaser”. And this is the trap that is so difficult to break out of. It takes time to understand the key to getting out. This is what we wil discuss on the episode.     #divorce #divorcedwomen #separation #separated #relationship #relationships #women #woman #womenhelpingwomen #coach #grow #growth #change #lifechange #life #happy #motivation #findyourpath #findyourself #reclaimyourlife #womensupportingwomen #sparkjoy #fauziakhan #highestgood #howtheydidit #beyourself #over50_style #youmatter #selflove #upyourgame #personaldevelopment #inspiration #life #coach #womencoach #women #woman #learn #learning #love bomb     Biography of Fauzia Khan Divorce is one of the hardest challenges women face. FAUZIA, DamnShaq and counsellor Darlington Zvionere discuss performance anxiety and how to overcome it with Vanessa Maria. As part of Resident Advisor's wellness month, and in collaboration with Black Minds Matter, host Vanessa Maria discusses performance anxiety—what it is, how it manifests, how to overcome it—with FAUZIA, DamnShaq and Psychotherapeutic counsellor Darlington Zvionere. Support Black Minds Matter here: http://bit.ly/BMMRA In simple terms, performance anxiety is stage fright. As Zvionere explains, artists may experience everything from clammy hands to stiffness and blurred vision, which then impacts their performance. It's a vicious cycle, he says, as a falter in your performance will likely lead to increased nerves next time. "Be the best you can be in that moment," advises Zvionere. "Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow." In her own experience as a DJ, Maria has suffered from performance anxiety to the point of cancelling shows and relying on the influence of alcohol to calm her nerves. She speaks to DJ, promoter and presenter DamnShaq, known for his "madman" energy in the booth, about the pressure he used to put on himself. He reflects on how the pandemic has allowed him some time to reset and make peace with the fact that his boisterous stage character is not a sustainable way to function day-to-day. For FAUZIA, whose transition from DJing to having a live show has come with a huge increase in pre-performance anxiety, steadying her nerves is a work in progress. She speaks to Vanessa about fine-tuning her set, stepping away from social media and the confidence boost of working with Kelela. Black Minds Matter is a charity on a mission to connect Black families with free mental health services from qualified Black therapists. They are currently looking for 21,000 long-term donors who are able to donate £5 per month. With your support, they will be able to take steps forward to achieve their goal of lasting impact on Black mental health. Contributions can be made on the website if you are in a position to do so.

The federal government declared January 29 as the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec city Mosque Attack and Action against Islamophobia. That doesn't mean that Islamophobia is a thing of the past. Fauzia Mazhar ,the executive director of the Coalition of Muslim Women of Kitchener Waterloo, points out the different ways it still manifests itself and asks some tough questions: -Is Islamophobia only a "Muslim" problem? -What does Quebec's Bill 21 mean for the Muslim woman on the street? -Could we now potentially have refugees fleeing Quebec because of religious persecution? Fauzia tackles these hard issues even as she fights her own battle with breast cancer. Listen in to hear her deeply personal reflections- why she refuses to be called a "survivor" or "warrior" and how she dealt with the most important question of her cancer journey: "Why me"? Technology will not solve your problem. It will only do what you tell it to do.    To solve your problem you have to tell the technology the right things to do. And to do that, you have to go back to your fundamentals — people and processes.   In this episode of the podcast, we're joined by Fauzia Khan, senior vice president of intelligent automation at INVOKE, a boutique consulting firm that helps companies define their digital transformation strategy. Fauzia talks more about the challenges of intelligent automation's three-legged balancing act.   Fauzia discusses: * Why only a few businesses excel at intelligent automation * How companies can identify whether their problem lies with people, processes, or technology * How an enterprise can overcome their organizational problems to excel with their digital workforce   To ensure that you never miss an episode of Generation Digital Workforce, subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or here.

Fauzia Burke and her team at FSB Associates specialize in creating online awareness for books and authors.  Since Fauzia launched her specialty marketing and publicity firm in 1995, FSB has orchestrated more than 2,000 successful book publicity campaigns, including those for award-winning actor Alan Alda; mega-authors Ken Blanchard and Brian Tracy, South Beach Diet guru Dr. Arthur Agaston, entrepreneur and publisher Arianna Huffington; broadcaster Mika Brzesinski; former U.S. Senator Bill Bradley, and Jordan Goodman, America’s Money Answers Man. Fauzia, herself, is the author of “Online Marketing for Busy Authors” - a must-read for any writer who doesn’t want to see his or her book make an express trip to the Bargain Books shelves at Barnes & Noble. This week, in an extended interview, host and award-winning journalist Dean Rotbart talks with Fauzia about good PR, but more importantly, they detail how authors and publishers can successfully sell their books online. Refreshingly, as you’ll hear, when Dean asks Fauzia a straight question, she gives him a straight answer. Questions include: Can you make money writing books? Does celebrity fluff sell better than quality research and writing? Do mainstream publishers do a good job promoting their books? How often has FSB failed to promote a book successfully?  Fauzia - a Pakistani immigrant who arrived here in 1981 and was raised by a single mom - is an American success story, an inspiration, and an entrepreneur who has helped hundreds of authors fulfill their own dreams.  Listen and Profit Now™ as she shares her inspirational journey – both business and personal.
