The towing industry landscape is changing dramatically, and we're at the forefront of this transformation. In this revealing conversation, we announce the groundbreaking merger between Cardinal Legacy Towing Group and the American Towing Recovery Institute (ATRI), creating a powerful new force in towing education and operations.Kurtis Barks, the visionary behind Cardinal Legacy Group, shares his journey from automotive repair to building a network of 13 consolidated towing companies across multiple states. What makes this merger revolutionary isn't just its scale – it's the human-centered approach driving it. Barth explains how their consolidation model delivers 18-21% pay increases, comprehensive benefits packages, and career advancement opportunities previously unavailable to many towing professionals. The conversation takes us deep into the philosophy that "it's not about the bottom line – it's about making the bottom line better by having successful people and safe jobs." We explore how this merger addresses critical industry challenges from skyrocketing insurance costs to proper training and safety protocols. Most compelling is Bark's commitment to elevating tow operators to their rightful status as essential first responders, worthy of the same respect and protection as police and firefighters.Perhaps most exciting is the announcement of a permanent 10-acre training facility being established west of St. Louis. This comprehensive center will offer everything from beginner training for industry newcomers to advanced recovery techniques, water extractions, and safety protocols – potentially transforming how the industry develops its workforce.Whether you're a towing company owner considering your future, an operator looking for better working conditions, or simply interested in how innovative business models can transform traditional industries, this episode offers valuable insights into the future of towing and recovery. Join us to discover how consolidation, done right, can create better outcomes for everyone in the towing ecosystem.
ŚB 5.17.2-3Dhruva Mahārāja, the famous son of Mahārāja Uttānapāda, is known as the most exalted devotee of the Supreme Lord because of his firm determination in executing devotional service. Knowing that the sacred Ganges water washes the lotus feet of Lord Viṣṇu, Dhruva Mahārāja, situated on his own planet, to this very day accepts that water on his head with great devotion. Because he constantly thinks of Kṛṣṇa very devoutly within the core of his heart, he is overcome with ecstatic anxiety. Tears flow from his half-open eyes, and eruptions appear on his entire body. The seven great sages [Marīci, Vasiṣṭha, Atri and so on] reside on planets beneath Dhruvaloka. Well aware of the influence of the water of the Ganges, to this day they keep Ganges water on the tufts of hair on their heads. They have concluded that this is the ultimate wealth, the perfection of all austerities, and the best means of prosecuting transcendental life. Having obtained uninterrupted devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, they neglect all other beneficial processes like religion, economic development, sense gratification and even merging into the Supreme. Just as jñānīs think that merging into the existence of the Lord is the highest truth, these seven exalted personalities accept devotional service as the perfection of life. Please feel free to join our Kṛṣṇa Consciousness Telegram group chat (for both prabhujīs and mātājīs): https://t.me/iskmnews

A new ATRI report says not only is traffic congestion costly – it took $109 billion from trucking in 2022 alone. Also, it's doubtful we went long this past year without mentioning emission rules or electric vehicles. We'll review developments that occurred during 2024. Also, Bryce Mongeon of OOIDA offers some insight into a new study regarding detention time. Then, OOIDA tour truck driver Marty Ellis heard a road rumor recently regarding the personal conveyance rule – one that has little resemblance to reality. 0:00 – NTSB report doesn't tell whole story of 2022 crash 10:07 – The depth – and cost – of the detention time problem 25:00 – Congressman: No need to raise insurance requirements 40:06 – Personal conveyance on Fridays only?
A possible dockworkers' strike on the East Coast and Gulf Coast could create problems in the trucking industry, at ports and beyond. Also, an ATRI survey on detention time found that on the whole, the problem is on the decline in the trucking industry. And when it comes to hiring on a driver, there are a few things you should take into consideration – including your insurance. Then, the number of loads posted on the DAT One load board hit 2019 levels last week. Robert Rouse of DAT has the details. 0:00 – Dockworkers' strike could be a problem for trucking 10:07 – Some good news in detention time report 25:00 – The impact of hiring drivers on your insurance 40:06 – Loads on board reach 2019 levels
When we polled owner-operators about a year ago on recent-history improvement, or lack thereof, in detention time along their routes and at their customers, a huge majority noted the situation they'd seen at docks hadn't improved to any noticeable degree in recent years. Forty percent of all poll respondents at the time in fact said detention had gotten worse for them: https://www.overdriveonline.com/overdrive-extra/article/15544369/how-to-calculate-detention-rate-for-owneroperator-business If the American Transportation Research Institute's new look at detention is correct, though, waits to load/unload are getting at least marginally better for the average driver out there, if not the majority of Overdrive's largely independent owner-operator readers. In this week's Overdrive Radio edition, track back through Overdrive News Editor Matt Cole's reporting on ATRI's "Cost and consequences of truck driver detention" study: https://www.overdriveonline.com/business/article/15683714/how-detention-time-impacted-trucking-companies-drivers-in-2023 The ATRI study's topline finding estimated trucking writ large lost $15 billion to detention at shippers and receivers in 2023. Yes, $15 billion with a B. If you consider the American Trucking Associations' annual revenue figure for the entirety of the trucking industry at nearly a trillion (ATA's 2023 estimate was $987 billion), that $15 billion is worth a full 1.5% of the entire revenues generated by trucking companies. In the podcast, we break down the headline-grabbing numbers and how ATRI got to them with its 2023 detention-impacts estimate, likewise what owners and operators can do to put a dent in their own detention problems. Some of it's obvious -- drop/hook situations, such as you can engineer them, will help -- but a lot is difficult, particularly the customer relations management that might truly make shippers and receivers feel the burden of their inefficiencies with detention fees charged. And then actually collected. As it stands today, trucking writ large tackles this issue by half measures, quite literally collecting invoiced detention fees only about half the time, ATRI found. The episode features an interview with Rebecca Brewster, the President and COO of the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI). She discusses her background and how she came to work in the trucking industry. She explains ATRI's role as a non-profit research organization that identifies and addresses the industry's top research priorities through a diverse Research Advisory Committee, made up of relevant industry players from carriers, to shippers, to brokers, and vendors who support the trucking ecosystem. Throughout the episode, Rebecca highlights several recent ATRI studies, including research on the operational costs of trucking, which provides detailed benchmarking data for fleets, as well as studies on the growing issue of "nuclear verdicts" against trucking companies. She also delves into ATRI's work examining the challenges of electrifying the trucking fleet, a hot topic as a result of recent California regulation. This part of the conversation is especially compelling, as ATRI's research shows the significant infrastructure and grid capacity issues that would need to be addressed to meet the governmental requirements. Throughout the conversation, Brewster emphasizes ATRI's commitment to providing objective, data-driven research to inform decision-makers, rather than engaging in advocacy or lobbying.Rebecca stresses the importance of industry participation in ATRI's research process, as well as the organization's efforts to widely disseminate its findings through user-friendly summaries. She demonstrates ATRI's deep understanding of the complex issues facing the trucking industry and its dedication to helping address these challenges through rigorous, independent analysis.***Episode brought to you by Rapido Solutions Group.
