If you are a fan of the scene you are most likely going to come across this gentleman pretty soon upon hanging out for a bit, but unless you dive deep you won't know Chris. Talk about prolific, Chris Harford has been making amazing music since his high school days with no signs of stopping soon. Not only does he write, record and produce his own music, he also runs his own record label supporting other awesome independent artists and collaborators. You could keep digging into this guy's career all day and still not get to everything! For the sake of sanity, we stuck to a few points for this interview, and it will take us awhile to unpack all of these! We spoke with Chris about his early bands, including the cult favorite Three Colors, which he started in college with some fellow art students. The seminal album "Be Headed" that just happens to be the major label debut of some of our other musical friends being released in 1992. The independent record label "Soul Selects" that Chris and his friends started in the 80's and still run to this day. Living with Andrew Weiss and Sim Cain while the early Ween albums were being made, and Chris explains to everyone once and for all what the hell the "Zion House of Flesh" actually is!!Chris explains what it was like to be produced by Mickey and working on the Chocodog Records release of his record "Looking out for Number 6"; a true anomaly among the Chocodog and Schnitzel projects. We also talk about some of the really cool current projects that Chris has worked on within the last few years; like the Birdfeeder collaboration with Mark Mulcahy of Polaris and Miracle Legion. The very groovy instrumental record he made with the Philly based Jazz band Channel Collective, and his travels with Paul Muldoon and the rock-poetry group Rogue Oliphant. Please go to Soul Selects.com to see all of the available releases by the record label, and Chris Harford.com to download all of the catalog releases by Chris and his constantly evolving Band of Changes.Join us on Patreon.com for some more fun and exclusive material including the entire Chris interview where we discuss Chris' Dub project Blanc du Blanc, his thoughts on vinyl vs and download, and some other fun surprises! Also live is a new episode of Shane's Ween Vinyl featuring the Chris Album "Looking out for Number 6", its a cool mini-sode talking about the albums vinyl and some fun facts about the CD compared to the record. Thank You and Please enjoy!!!

“For The Country” By the time Seth Tiven formed Dumptruck in 1983, he'd already had a few bands under his belt, including Saucers, a band he was in with fellow Connecticut pal Mark Mulcahy who would go on to form Miracle Legion. Tiven had relocated to Boston after graduating from Wesleyan and the supporting cast of Dumptruck had a few personnel changes, but changes aside. their first two albums D is For Dumptruck and Positively Dumptruck--both issued on Big Time--were two very strong entries to begin a career. Moody, dark and filled with jangle and melodic smarts, the band were lumped in with folks like R.E.M. and the Connells and rightfully so, as they were all kind of in the same sonic pocket. But it was 1987's For The Country, which featured new guitarist Kevin Salem who replaced singer/guitarist Kirk Swan, that really was their apotheosis. A stirring and angry collection that explored isolation and the geography of loneliness, For The Country bristled with confidence and indie rock grace. Tracks like Going Nowhere and Carefree demonstrated that Dumptruck were one of the most vital and stinging outfits out there. They played with the Replacements and Husker Du, had a growing fan base and were poised to take the next big step forward to the big time. And then the big time took that step forward and pushed it ten steps back. Not the big time, as in THE big time, but the big time as in Big Time Records. Dumptruck were crushing it but Big Time was getting crushed and were in tons of financial trouble. The label was free falling so the band's lawyer tried to sell their contract to Phonogram, Big Time got pissed and decided to sue Dumptruck for 5 million. This became a protracted legal battle and all the momentum Dumptuck had going for them was devoured. The resolution took years and a lot of money and in the end, Dumptruck prevailed. If you think most bands would have had a hard time recapturing the momentum that sidelined them after a thing like this went down, you would be right. And Dumptruck fell into that category. They never really found their swing again and broke up in 1991. Tracks they recorded during the legal battle were released as the Days of Fear album in '94, they put out Terminal in '98, Lemmings Travel to the Sea in 2001 and Wrecked in 2018. All great records, but it's hard not to think about what would have happened if Dumptruck had been allowed to maintain the momentum they'd managed. One never knows, but one thing I do know is that Seth Tiven is a truly nice guy and I'm so happy he answered the indie rock bat signal and came out for a chat. www.dumptruck-music.com www.bombshellradio.com www.alexgreenonline.com Stereo Embers The Podcast Twitter: @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

The show was of course The Adventures of Pete and Pete. Not only did they appear in the opening credits and write the theme song for the show, Polaris also played a heavy role in an episode all about discovering your favorite song at a young age. If you were in college in the early 80s and tuned in to your campus radio station, you probably heard a fair amount of R.E.M., maybe some Pixies, or The Smiths even. But you may have heard a lesser known group: Miracle Legion. With similar jangle pop melodies and vocal stylings as Peter Buck and Michael Stipe, the band was often compared to their R.E.M. counterparts. But what made Miracle Legion different is perhaps what kept them from reaching superstardom: the lyrical themes of singer Mark Mulcahy were less cryptic and poetic and more nostalgic and direct. They dealt with childhood memories we could all relate to. Which is why it's no surprise that the creator of the Nickelodeon cult classic TV show The Adventures of Pete and Pete approached Mark to write songs for his show about growing up in Suburbia (more on that next week). Join us as we listen to several tracks spanning Miracle Legion's short but impactful career leading up to the early 90s when they transformed into the band we knew and loved as kids: the one and only Polaris.

He He later formed Polaris: a house band for the mid-1990s alternative TV series The Adventures of Pete & Pete.To quote our guest verbatim about The Gus, “Each song on this album is a double sided coin of both joy and pain. It's the perfect record for almost every occasion. Mark, being an already very accomplished songwriter, really takes this one to a personal yet eccentric place. Do not skip this album." Enjoy!

A cameo as a guard does not rise to the level of "costar" which could be misleading I would use the phrase "appeared in", just to be safe. This might be a nitpick, but if a team at my local trivia missed the question do to this phrasing, there definitely would be complaints.   Dan is an experienced performer and recording artist, having shared the stage and the studio with a diverse collection of commercially and critically successful artists. He began his career with Rane, an award-winning rock ensemble who, in addition to becoming a success in their own right, opened for such acts as The Allman Brothers Band, The Jerry Garcia Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Wilco, Rusted Root, and Santana. After working with Rane, Dan became a freelancer, playing bass and cello with artists like Simon Kirke (of Free, Bad Company, and Ringo Starr's All-Star Band), Kurtis John (of The Last Goodnight), Jennifer Hartswick (of the Trey Anastasio Band), Sean Kelly (of the Samples), and Rex Fowler (of Aztec Two-Step). His innovative and tasteful cello playing can be heard on recordings from innumerable artists, notably Frank Black (of the Pixies) and Mark Mulcahy. Dan appears on several tracks on Mulcahy's 2005 release, In Pursuit of Your Happiness, an album that Thom Yorke of Radiohead called the best of that year. Dan is also a successful songwriter and composer. His style ranges from classically influenced chamber music to pop-rock songs, and he has been equally successful in both genres. His portfolio includes works for a variety of ensembles including chamber ensembles, choir, accompanied solo vocalists, and symphony orchestra.
