Has James Bond finally met his match? Despite Roger Moore being in his late 50s, the team convinced him to return as Bond one last time in A View to a Kill. When Bond recovers a microchip in Siberia, it leads him to investigating Max Zorin, played by Christopher Walken, a psychotic wealthy businessman with plans to take on Silicon Valley. A View to a Kill is often considered one of the worst films in the franchise, something Tom agreed with when he ranked it bottom 5 before the rewatch. Does the film deserve the poor critical response or is it worth a dance into the fire? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast, we present to you an encore episode with guest Chris Lemmon, son of Jack Lemmon. Chris spoke with us last year in the midst of Covid and was holed up as his home on the East Coast due to a pretty intense compromised immunity which he speaks about at length. In addition to his health, we speak to Chris about what it was like growing up Lemmon, the son of one of America's greatest actors and why he chose to go into acting as well. We further talked to Chris about some familial bonds as well – his father and Josh's mother Edie Adams were close friends beginning in the 1950s when Jack and Edie's first husband Ernie Kovacs starred in several films together. They were not only co-stars but fast friends. We talk about a trip to Venice Italy in 1984 that Chris and Josh attended where hotel guests included Hollywood super-agent, Sue Mengers, Gore Vidal and Christopher Walken, who was shooting the James Bond film “A View To A Kill” as villain Max Zorin. There were dinners, conversation and drinks at Harry's Bar all week that was both strangely normal and surreal. It was a great conversation with Chris and a fun catch-up to have him on the podcast. So take a listen as this is the Rarified Heir Podcast encore episode with Chris Lemmon. Everyone has a story.
Hi there Classical Gabfest Listeners, this is Will, and I'm afraid we don't have a regular episode for you this week. Longtime listeners to the show will know that Tiffany and Kensho and I all met at the Pierre Monteux School, which is a summer music institute focused on orchestral conducting and playing. Unfortunately, earlier this week, the school's director, Michael Jinbo, died suddenly, and as Michael was a beloved teacher, mentor, and friend to all three of us, we decided not to produce an episode this week.As a brief tribute, I wanted to say a few words about our teacher:Maestro Jinbo was only the third-ever music director of the Monteux School in its 79-year history, succeeding his own teacher, Charles Bruck, and before him, Pierre Monteux himself, whom some of you may know was the conductor of the world premieres of The Rite of Spring and Daphnis and Chloé, and who performed Brahms' string quartets for Brahms himself, among many other accomplishments.Maestro Jinbo was proud of the school's tradition, but he was very much his own musician and a great musician at that. Maestro Jinbo was not a famous conductor, but he was famous among conductors. We marveled at his crystal-clear technique and his deeply felt, uncomplicated musicality, and I know for a fact that videos of his conducting (which he would never allow to be released) circulated privately among his admirers. In rehearsal, he was totally unfussy and to-the-point. He always preferred to show and rather than to tell, but whenever he did say something about the music, it was invariably insightful, witty, and inspiring.Of course, my co-hosts and I, and many, many others of his students will remember Michael for his abilities as a teacher. He combined uncompromising honesty with a deep care for each of his students as a human being, and he taught to each student individually. He didn't waste time and he went immediately for your weaknesses, not to demean you, but to strengthen you.Above all, Michael Jinbo taught us to be our true selves, both on and off the podium. He never tried to mold us in his own image, rather he helped us to strip away our excess baggage and taught us to honor the essential core that remained. And that's just about the greatest gift that any teacher can give you. It's hard to find recordings of Michael's work, but I did find a beautiful one on YouTube, in which Michael is leading the Nittany Valley Symphony of Pennsylvania, of which he was also music director for several decades. This is a recording of the “Meditation” from Jules Massenet's opera Thaïs, featuring violinist Max Zorin, which I offer as this week's mixtape suggestion. Rest in Peace, Michael.CLASSICAL MIXTAPEMassenet, Thaïs: “Meditation”Nittany Valley Symphony OrchestraMax Zorin, violinMichael Jinbo, conductor
James Bond is back and this time, he's older than ever. We bid fairwell to Rodger Moore in his final performance as the super spy and he goes out with a bang. Out to stop Max Zorin with is recycled Goldfinger plot involving microchips that doesn't make any sense. Starring (too old for this shit) Rodger Moore as one half of the dream team with Patrick Macnee, a film stealing Christopher Walken, Grace Jones as Grace Jones, Tanya Roberts as a leading lady who only makes the leading man look older, The Chinese Detective and Dolph Lundgren more he was He-Man. Der letzte Moore 007, der Rentner Daddy Bond auf dem Gestüt in Frankreich und im Silicon Valley gegen Max Zorin. Viel Spaß!
On this episode of The James Bond A-Z Podcast, hosts Tom Butler, Brendan Duffy, and Tom Wheatley tackle six more topics under the letter C. Covered in this show: Roger Moore's tailor Cyril Castle who shaped the look of 007 in 'Live and Let Die' and 'The Man With The Golden Gun at the start of his tenure. Henry Cavill, the Superman actor who was nearly cast as James Bond for 2006's 'Casino Royale' but was pipped to the post by Daniel Craig, and is hotly tipped to be the 7th 007. Chang, Hugo Drax's menacing henchman from 'Moonraker', portrayed by martial artist Toshirô Suga. Matt Chessé, the American editor of 2008's 'Quantum of Solace', who is a regular collaborator with Marc Forster. Tsai Chin, a multi-generational Bond 'girl' who appeared with Sean Connery in 1967's You Only Live Twice and Daniel Craig in 2006's 'Casino Royale'. And Anthony Chinn, a supporting artist who appeared in four James Bond film, from 'Dr. No' up to 'A View To A Kill' which gave him his most substantial role of the franchise in a memorable scene with Christopher Walken's Max Zorin. BondCast is back to talk about Roger Moore’s final outing as 007 in 1985’s A VIEW TO A KILL. At age 57, was it one film too many for Sir Roger? We talk about the whole movie, including Christopher Walken’s bad guy Max Zorin, Grace Jones as the exotic May Day, and Bond Girl Tanya Roberts. We share some varied takes about the overall quality of this flick, along with a little debate. Plus, we go over the plot, stunts, mechanical icebergs and horse steroids.

After a quick chat about Qdoba vs. Chipotle, the fellas Christopher Walken-impression off while talking about Max Zorin & the James Bond movie, "A View to a Kill." They also touch on the ridiculousness of "Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo" and Gerrit recalls some optimism from a book he read surrounding the Holocaust (just listen for context). After all that, the boys delve right into the topic at hand - "Batman Forever." Val Kilmer dons the cape and cowl to take up the mantle of Gotham's Dark Knight. This is Part 2 of Kevin and Gerrit's deep-dive into "Batman Forever." They continue to talk about Jim Carrey as The Riddler, Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face, Nicole Kidman as Dr. Chase Meridian, Chris O'Donnell as Robin, and Val's take on Batman. If you miss this episode, you're insane! Don't miss the end of the episode where Kevin & Gerrit chat about stunts in film - truly fascinating. After Kenny and Brandon discuss parenting techniques, feelings, and (maybe) correctly pronounce Alex Haitz's name as they pay tribute to the loyal Ronnies, they discuss Christopher Walken's role as Feng, the comical antagonist who runs a deadly ping-pong tournament in the 2007 comedy 'Balls of Fury', a performance they theorize marked the end of the "Wacky Period" of Walken's acting career. Afterwards, Brandon reads from a ranked list of Bond villains done by Esquire Magazine asking Kenny where he thought Walken's character Max Zorin in 'A View to a Kill' might be on the list, and Brandon shares some exciting news about a potential discovery of Walken's earliest acting role on a soap opera in the mid-1950s which, to this day, has never been publicly released.
And so we finally come to the last Bond & Beyond review for 007's cinematic adventures (until they make more of them). James and Alex go through every detail of Roger Moore's final outing as the iconic British spy, from the questionable use of the Beach Boys to Max Zorin's on-brand choice of explosives and his eye for a bargain when it comes to Plot Tables. We waste an hour in France with horses, meet an Avenger (not the Marvel kind), pick holes in the geography of the San Francisco car chase, and spend far too much time thinking about that iceberg submarine. We also struggle to contain our fear of Grace Jones and our love for John Barry's penultimate Bond score. As you'll hear at the start of the episode, the review unfortunately also contains an audio glitch, for which we apologise. We promise it shan't happen again. And as you'll hear at the end of the show, this will be the last Bond & Beyond for some considerable time - but fear not, for like Bond himself, we will return. If you want to email us, you can do so via bondandbeyondpod@gmail.com. You can find us on Facebook (just search 'Bond & Beyond'), Twitter (@bondbeyondpod) and all our episodes are at bondbeyondpod.tumblr.com.
Put that Gondola boat car into gear because it's time for Episode 5 of The Words Are Not Enough! In this episode Griffin (@griffschiller) and Brody (@brodyserravalli) discuss the following:Tomorrow Never Lies* Craig Wants Denis Villenueve to direct Bond 25 * According to the The Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye, Denis Villeneuve has spoken with Daniel Craig along with producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson about coming on-board as director for Bond 25. Further more, the report indicates that Craig has thrown his weight behind Villeneueve has his personal pick to helm the project. * This corroborates with a report from Deadline in June that claimed Villeneuve was one of three front-runners for the coveted job. * However, a more recent report from Deadline has thrown some doubt on Villeneuve's availability, positing that Villeneuve is in early talks with Sony to direct a Cleopatra biopic. This report comes on top of a Dune remake that Villeneuve is also rumored to be attached to.* Thomas Newman Returning for Bond 25 * Omega Underground has allegedly come across a production listing for Bond 25 that, while not detailing a director or story synopsis, appears to reveal that composer Thomas Newman will return to the franchise to score Bond 25. Newman scored Skyfall and Spectre and was previously assumed to be leaving the series with the departure of his frequent collaborator Sam Mendes, but this production list suggests he may be sticking around.* Honor Bernie Casey * Bernie Casey, who played Felix Leiter in the unofficial James Bond film, Never Say Never Again, died September 19th, 2017, at the age of 78 after brief illness.Q-Branch* David Bowie's awkward relationship with Sir Roger Moore * In a new biography by Dylan Jones, ' David Bowie: A Life', there is an interesting tale of when David Bowie befriended Roger Moore. Sometime in the 1970s, Bowie moved to Switzerland (to avoid the oppressive tax regime of the UK at the time) despite not knowing anyone in the country. But 007 was just down the road. Oscar-nominated scriptwriter and novelist Hanif Kureishi provided this anecdote for the book. * One day, about half-past five in the afternoon, there's a knock on the door, and there he was: ‘Hello, David.' Roger Moore comes in, and they had a cup of tea. He stays for drinks, and then dinner, and tells lots of stories about the James Bond films. They had a fantastic time - a brilliant night." * "But then, the next day, at 5.30… Knock, knock, it's Roger Moore. He invites himself in again, and sits down: ‘Yeah, I'll have a gin and tonic, David.' He tells the same stories – but they're slightly less entertaining the second time around." * "After two weeks [of Moore turning up] at 5.25pm – literally every day – David Bowie could be found underneath the kitchen table pretending not to be in.” * Bowie was later offered the role of Max Zorin for 1985's 'A View To A Kill' but turned it down. * Sir Roger Moore's official Twitter has disputed the validity of the story, calling it 'not true at all.'* Brother from Langley* Quick Kingsman 2 review (spoilers allowed)Shaken, but Heard* Top 5 Directors to tackle a bond filmSUBSCRIBE to the Men vs. Movies YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/channel/UCAlhR6RxXQux2LWok1cIL6wFollow us on Twitter: @MenVsMoviesLike us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/menvs.movies/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-words-are-not-enough/support
Goldfinger var et kæmpehit tilbage i 1964, så EON lavede i 1985 en ny Bondfilm over samme ide. Chris and Sean talk the final Roger Moore 007 film of January, Bond January : A View to a Kill. The film stars an aged, 58 to be exact, James Bond as he takes on the Steve Jobs/Bill Gates mashup that is Max Zorin played by Christopher Walken. Bond attempts to thwart Zorin's evil plan of attempting to flood Silicon Valley through an extremely convoluted series of earthquakes. It's old man Bond versus crazy man Walken in an knockdown brawl for the ages!As always, you can follow Chris Stachiw on Twitter at @KultureStach, Sean Liang at @Seannifer and Kulture Shocked at @KultureShocked. In 1985 Roger Moore set two records--at 57 years old he was the oldest actor to portray James Bond, and with A View to a Kill his seventh Bond film he played Bond in the official films more times than any other actor to date. A View to a Kill would be his last film as James Bond, but with Christopher Walken as villian Max Zorin, Grace Jones as Zorin's goon May Day, and a rocking theme by 80's rockers Duran Duran, is Moore's last Bond film worth a view, or a kill? Listen to find out!

We thought we'd treat you all to a special little Minisode, given there seems to have been quite a lot going on in the world of film. This mini dispatch sees Ed and myself pondering how Danny Boyle graduated from (possibly) directing Taggart to helming the jaw-dropping spectacle of the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony, wonder why Javier Bardem is dressed as Max Zorin in the Skyfall trailer, ask how on earth a film of Cloud Atlas is going to be possible and wrap things up with a cautious appraisal of the decision to stretch The Hobbit to three films. We hope you enjoy it and if you do, please rate and review on iTunes!
