Welcome to another episode of The Coral Capital Podcast, a show where we bring on guests from tech, business, politics, and culture to talk about all things Japan.VTubing, or virtual YouTubing, is a form of digital content creation where anime-style avatars—powered by motion capture and voice acting—engage audiences through livestreams, gaming, and interactive entertainment. This industry has rapidly evolved from niche internet culture into a multi-billion-dollar market, blurring the lines between content creation, technology, and intellectual property (IP).In this episode, we are joined by Sasuke Shimomura, Chief Strategy Officer of Brave group, one of Japan's leading VTuber production companies. Brave group is a global digital IP company which mainly consists of 3 business segments: IP Production which mainly focuses on VTuber production, IP Platform and IP Solution which focus on distribution and enhancing the monetization of digital IP. After graduating from Waseda University, Sasuke started his career in the Equity Research Division at Goldman Sachs Japan. He then played a key role in corporate planning, creator strategy, and M&A at UUUM Co., Ltd., Japan's largest influencer management company. He was also CFO of SoVa Inc., where he oversaw fundraising efforts from the company's founding. Sasuke later joined Eight Roads Ventures Japan, focusing on investments in Entertainment and Media, while also conducting M&A exits for several portfolio companies. In June 2024, he joined Brave group as CSO.In today's episode we break down everything about the VTuber industryThe VTubing movement began in 2016 with the debut of Kizuna AI, widely considered the industry's first VTuber.By 2018, major production companies like Anycolor (Nijisanji) and Cover (Hololive) emerged, professionalizing the space and scaling VTuber operations.Different styles of VTubing: 2D VTubing: An animated illustration that syncs with the talent's real-time movements.3D VTubing: Uses motion capture technology to replicate full-body movement in a 3D virtual space.2.5D Hybrid: A mix of virtual and real-world performances, where VTubers also appear in person The VTuber industry operates much like traditional entertainment businesses, with diverse monetization strategies: live streaming revenue, merchandising, advertisement tie-ups, direct fan monetization (ex. fan clubs), and IP expansion (ex. anime adaptations). While similar to a typical talent agency like K-pop's YG group, VTubing agencies like Brave group hold the rights to all of their IP, allowing for greater revenue diversification.VTubing is a rapidly growing market with the potential to reach anime's $20B+ industry size.Emerging technologies like AI, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Blockchain will diversify and expand revenue opportunities.AI is already being leveraged in processes like illustration, but larger shifts such as 24/7 AI streaming or “AITuber” are likely coming in the near future.Being a globally successful IP powerhouse requires 1. A deep understanding of content 2. The right technology 3. A cultural understanding to bring the content to the global market 4. A strong financial strategy to execute.-----For founder's building Japan's next legendary companies, reach out to us here: https://coralcap.co/contact-startups/If you're interested in joining a Coral startup join our talent network here: https://coralcap.co/coral-careers/

The Transformative Technology Trends That Are Reshaping Laboratory Environments in Ireland

Irish Tech News Audio Articles

Transformative Technology Trends guest post by Padraig Callan, Head of Business Development at Lennox. Ireland is home to nine of the world's top ten pharmaceutical companies as well as a strong cluster of home-grown Irish ones. According to Enterprise Ireland, it's a strong "ecosystem that leverages top-tier talent and enterprise to foster innovation and shape global healthcare's future". However, transformative technology trends will have a significant impact on reshaping laboratory environments in the country, so it's essential that organisations are aware of these trends and navigate challenges before they arise. From AI and sustainability to data analytics, here are the top trends that laboratories should be aware of next year and beyond. 1. Automation - AI and robotics in labs Intelligent lab automation that utilises AI and robotics can help offer efficient and innovative lab environments for organisations. TechXplore suggests that robotics has the "potential to turn our everyday science labs into automated factories that accelerate discovery" but notes the importance of creative solutions on how to integrate this with researchers in the lab environment. For laboratories, the fast advance of AI can help provide real-time insights and visualisations for laboratories, which can in turn, enhance research, efficiency and resource management in the lab. Automation can help to process vast amounts of unstructured data that laboratories currently don't have the resources to facilitate. This will allow laboratories to make more data-driven decisions. Robotics can also improve consistency in labs, reducing the risk of contamination in areas such as handling tissue samples. 2. Sustainability As environmental concerns continue to rise worldwide, the importance of sustainable laboratories is more apparent than ever. Laboratories are not only looking for ways, but are expected to become more environmentally sustainable. From energy-efficient lab equipment, sourcing sustainable materials to implementing waste management systems, government legislation will impact the day-to-day processes for laboratories in many ways. For example, the proper recycling of hazardous waste is a legal requirement enforced by the Environmental Protection Agency in Ireland. For laboratories, sustainability also covers the workforce and its external reputation - how it's perceived by potential talent, partners, clients, competitors and external stakeholders. Implementing sustainable practices and complying with environmental regulations have been shown to enhance external reputation and be important in attracting talent. Now, companies such as My Green Lab are providing laboratory certifications, which showcase how labs uphold a worldwide standard for sustainable practices. Laboratories have already started to implement more sustainable practices including using reusable transport boxes, cloud-based systems and sharing equipment when possible. 3. Data Analytics and Predictive Modelling By utilising advanced data tools, laboratories can efficiently process vast datasets to forecast trends, improve diagnostic accuracy and optimise research outcomes and workflows. Additionally, compliance with the EU's Data Protection Act and other data protection laws in Ireland such as the Data Protection Act will also become important when organisations introduce these processes. Our business has seen the importance of rolling out Vendor Managed Inventory systems, which allow suppliers to efficiently manage supply chains. Within this process, predictive modelling has helped anticipate and address supply chain issues before they arise for customers. This process is extremely cost-effective, helping to track and record laboratory resources. Another aspect is anticipating equipment failures in the lab, that otherwise may have had an impact on productivity, timelines or efficiencies. 4. Augmented Reality (AR) for Training and Maintenance Another interesting trend that has bee...

Gravity isn't real? Actor Terrence Howard was a guest on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, making some very powerful statements—like that gravity isn't real, at least the way mainstream science understands it. Howard claimed that 1x1 doesn't equal 1, the periodic table needs a complete overhaul, and our understanding of mainstream math and science is wrong (or is so old it needs to be looked at again). He also said that he held certain patents for Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technology, as well as a few other claims. Some have called his interview a psyop, some have praised him for coming forward, and most of the mainstream media has blasted him as being anti-science for all of these claims. But do they hold any truth? Terrence Howard began his acting career in 1992 and has starred in movies such as in Iron Man, Mr. Holland's Opus, Dead Presidents, and the TV series Empire. So why is an actor making these bizarre claims, and does he know something we don't? Well, Ben and Rob from Edge of Wonder took a deep dive to figure it out with some good old fashioned fact checking. What Ben found was shocking: Certain studies, news reports, and mainstream scientific findings are actually more based in theory than in fact. Tune into this Friday Night Live to dive deeper into the age-old question of gravity, the theory of relativity, and so much more. Could a Luigi's Mansion dark ride be planned for Universal Orlando's expanding Super Nintendo World? That's a rumor coming from a Universal insider. Also rumored to be coming soon are rethemes of existing Universal attractions as Pokemon and The Legend of Zelda. Will Universal become the Disney killer? ➡️ Tip Jar and Fan Support: http://ClownfishSupport.com ➡️ Official Merch Store: http://ShopClownfish.com ➡️ Official Website: http://ClownfishGaming.net Additional Context: Rumors are circulating about potential expansions to Universal Orlando's Super Nintendo World, including attractions based on "The Legend of Zelda," "Luigi's Mansion," and "Pokemon." These rumors suggest significant developments for the theme park, which could enhance its appeal to Nintendo fans and potentially challenge Disney's dominance in the theme park industry. According to the rumors: The Legend of Zelda: This attraction is rumored to replace the Lost Continent section of Islands of Adventure in Universal Orlando. It may feature an indoor boat ride as its main attraction, possibly along with a smaller outdoor ride, such as a roller coaster, and a reimagined restaurant themed as the Deku Tree from Zelda. The opening for this attraction is speculated to be around 2027. Luigi's Mansion: A "Mini-Land" for Luigi's Mansion is rumored for Universal's Epic Universe park in Orlando. The main attraction is said to be a dark ride where riders catch ghosts using the Poltergust, and there may also be a themed restaurant and an additional ride to complement the main one. The opening date for this ride is currently unknown. Pokemon: Universal Studios Japan is reportedly planning to replace The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man ride with a Pokemon-themed attraction, which will utilize Augmented Reality (AR) similar to the Mario Kart ride. Universal Studios Orlando is expected to receive a cloned version of Japan's Pokemon Ride, replacing The Simpsons ride. Additionally, there might be a full "Pokemon Land" in Orlando, where visitors can interact with Pokemon using an interactive Poke Ball item and manage them via an app. The opening for the Pokemon attractions in Orlando is rumored to be by 2030. These expansions, if realized, could significantly enhance Universal Orlando's appeal, especially among fans of Nintendo's popular franchises. It remains to be seen how these developments will impact the rivalry between Universal and Disney in the theme park industry. Concerns have been rife among genuine crafters about Etsy being inundated with commodity items posing as handmade crafts. Addressing this, Etsy took decisive action on Monday. Listings now flagged by Etsy's automated system for potentially breaching its Handmade Policy will stay active but won't be visible in search results or recommendations. This hiatus allows Etsy's specialists to review the listing in question. The brand assures, "Our team will then decide if the listing should be taken down or if it's fit to continue its presence on Etsy." Sellers can expect this review process to conclude in less than 24 hours. In other Etsy news: A new "Share and Save" workshop recording is now available on the seller dashboard. Highlight: for every $100 order, sellers receive $4 back. Etsy is expanding its technological horizons. After integrating Augmented Reality (AR) technology for painting, photography, and prints in 2020, they're branching into home furnishings, enhancing the shopping experience for users. Etsy's recent moves signal its commitment to preserving the platform's core ethos while embracing technological advances for an enriched user experience.
