Are you a people-pleaser who struggles with setting boundaries with your clients? If you do not set boundaries, you are at risk of being taken advantage of in ways that can cause your business to suffer. If you are struggling with saying no, listen to this personal story experienced by host Chelsea Stevenson. In today's episode, Chelsea discusses the importance of setting boundaries and sticking to them. Chelsea shares a story where multiple balls were dropped during the intake process, leaving the client with unrealistic expectations that Chelsea was unable to deliver. After being given the wrong address to the event, Chelsea was already off to the wrong start. Once at the venue, the client was requesting things that were outside of their signed contract. Rather than giving in, Chelsea stood her ground. At the end of the day, Chelsea and her client were able to come to a compromise that worked for everyone. But had Chelsea not stood up for herself, her business and mental health certainly would have suffered. Tune into this week's episode of Hennapreneur to learn the importance of boundaries and when to say no to a client so you can protect yourself and your business from unnecessary stress. Quotes • “You want to make sure that your time and your money are being protected in the event that things come up.” (6:50-6:56) • “Someone dropped the ball. Who that is, I don't know. Ultimately, I was hired and told to arrive at a specific time at a specific location, and I did that. But whoever was responsible for making sure that was the correct venue, didn't do that.” (10:33-10:50) • “The bride came over with some photos of full bridal henna that she was also expecting to get done at this event, and I had to let her know this was not included in our contract.” (13:11-13:28) • “Sometimes you have instances where you have a client whose expectation is not aligned with reality.” (14:35-14:41) • “It is okay for us to say no. Boundaries are so important and boundaries exist even in the context of how we engage our clients when we're working with them.” (17:54-18:03) • “If there's a change in expectation and or in the service that you're rendering, and that's going to require that you be compensated more, get your money first before you render that service.” (22:25-22:35) • “It's always appropriate for you to advocate for your business. It's always appropriate for you to advocate for the needs that you have in order for you to be able to service your clients at the best capacity and in the ways that make you feel really good and proud of your work.” (23:06-23:18) Links Hennapreneur Community (Facebook Group): https://www.hennapreneur.com/community Hennapreneur Website: https://www.hennapreneur.com Hennapreneur Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hennapreneur Hennapreneur Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hennapreneur.official Hennapreneur YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/hennapreneur Watch the 5 Biggest Mistakes New Henna Artists Make (And How You Can Avoid Them!) Herbalism & Henna Sunday Night my friends! Meet Sumayah! "I have been studying the art of Henna and Herbal healing for well over a decade now. In my studies of Dance and Herbalism I found the art of henna. As a studied Artist with a Bachelors in Fine Arts I was excited that I could combine My love of art and plants into one. I have traveled across the US and Central America sharing henna in markets, festivals and with random strangers, gifting the joy I find in this beautiful plant medicine. I had been studying various world dances when I was introduced to Mehndi art and simultaneously, was introduced to the ancient art of Thai massage. All of which, I grew deeply passionate for. I quickly found dance and movement to be the embodiment of the souls language. Each modality leading itself into a web of healing with art, movement and plant medicine. Coming full circle, while in Florida, I found myself aligned to enroll in a clinical herbal program in both Western and Traditional Chinese Herbalism at Traditions Herbal School. This has allowed Me to establish myself deeper into herbal healing in a way I can share with My community both physically and spiritually." In today's episode, Katie has 30 minutes to become an expert on... Henna aka Mehndi! This was a Katie personal pick because of a recent experience, and maybe we need to do more like that because it was so fun! Henna, aka Mehndi, was so fun to get done, and then just as fun to learn about. Rarely do you come across cultural practices that are so old, and run through so many varied cultures. And rarely does one word have so many meanings! Henna can be a plant, a dye, or a temporary tattoo on your skin, but it is always interesting. Indian weddings are incomplete without a henna event, also known as the Mehndi ceremony. One way to spot a newly married Indian bride is to look at her hands. You’ll notice beautiful henna designs, in many cases, extending to her forearms all the way up to her elbow. This ancient form of intricate art is brought to life by henna artists around the world. In this interview, we wanted to showcase the best henna artists in the San Francisco Bay Area and ask her questions about the Mehendi ceremony. Our guest today is Neeta Desai Sharma, mehndi designer, henna artist, and a teacher, who has been practicing this form of art for over three decades now. Neeta was kind enough to share with us lots of valuable information that brides usually are not aware of. For instance, the importance of using natural henna products and why brides should stop fantasizing applying mehndi at the same time sd their guests, are some of the topics we dig into deeper. We hope you enjoy our conversation with the all amazing Neeta on the Indian Wedding Podcast.

In the US, an Indian wedding typically starts 2 days before the ceremony. The first pre-event is a henna event with the bride and the immediate family. The next event is a ceremony where a paste of turmeric, rose water, and sandalwood (or similar) is applied to the bride and groom to make them look prettier on the day of the wedding. Having the chance to go back to Hyderabad, India for a wedding of our two friends, Preetham and Spandana, was an unforgettable experience. Not only did we have the opportunity to partake in the many ceremonies of the marriage including Sangeeth, Haldi, Groom’s Day, Bride’s Day, Mehndi, and the huge wedding event, we also visited Hitec City, Nalgonda, and Gandipet. The incredible visit included a trip out delivering invitations on a motorbike, dancing choreographed steps to Indian music, and making a trip for Toddy palm wine. The people were all incredibly kind from the families to our amazing hosts. We stayed with four different families, met kids on the streets playing cricket, and enjoyed late nights understanding the culture. This India trip will not be forgotten, and we hope you enjoy us telling our unique story of discovering more reasons why we love to travel so much in this episode of Passport Joy Travel Talk. Main Topics Covered: Hyderabad Nagole Hitec City Nalgonda Links Mentioned in the Episode: Check out all of the PARTNERS that have made our lives easy while traveling the world. Nikki’s first published book - Passport Joy - can be found on the Kindle store on Amazon. Listen to our previous journey to India on Podcast 48: India is Incredible (2 Months Traveling 7+ Cities). Utilize the Pre-Paid Taxis ran by the government to give you peace of mind when you land at the airport in Hyderabad. Our outfits during the wedding festivities were outstanding. HITEC city is an area in Hyderabad focused on technology, engineering, and other sectors of economic growth. The Westin in HITEC was unbelievable with its great service and huge rooms. Toddy palm wine is what we went searching for on Sunday and it was a great trip. Our hosts, Jaya and Anthony, were amazingly kind. I compared tattoos with their mother one day. Sangeeth is the dance portion of the wedding festivities. Nalgonda was smaller version of Hyderabad and a fun town. We celebrated the bride’s day and Haldi at her home. Nikki got mehndi on her hands and forearms. The wedding was a bit early in the morning but a gorgeous ceremony. I'm in a rush to get this out so I'll just post Bridgette's bio here and add to this post later, if time permits.I am native to Vermont, growing up surrounded by mountains and forrest. I have always been artistic, mostly a photographer before discovering henna in 2011. The soothing flow of henna quickly became the focus of my artistic energy. Instead of trying to capture a moment in time, henna allows me to be present. A quiet creation to celebrate and adorn in any culture or country. I feel blessed to bring this art form to people all over the world.

It really shouldn't be such a surprise because everyone told me how sweet and generous and knowledgeable she is, and she did not disappoint. I don't know if Neeta could hear it but I was smiling on the other end of the line. As always, the interview taught me so much; I continue to think of these interviews as my own private therapy sessions which I decide to share with all of you. You're most welcome!I've been keeping an eye on Neeta over the years as I worked to hone my bridal henna skills. She seems a bit shy about sharing her work and so I kind of lost touch with her. Then I saw a bunch of her new work as part of a mehndi artist competition and I was blown away all over again by her level of detail, the fineness of her lines and the originality of her layout. I kind of feel like I discovered a new henna artist but it's just Neeta being excellent! If you haven't seen her work in a while you're in for a treat.Knowing Neeta only through her work and her reputation I didn't know how the conversation would go so I had a lot of questions just in case I needed to fill time. Fortunately she is a fount not only of information about henna, but also very interesting insights into creativity and attitude making my job that much easier. I have a sneaking suspicion that I will have more questions for her which will require another Neeta episode.
