Melissa and Chris Bruntlett are Canadian authors and urban mobility advocates who strive to communicate the benefits of sustainable transport and inspire happier, healthier, more human-scale cities. Their first book, Building the Cycling City: The Dutch Blueprint for Urban Vitality, explored the urban and transport planning decisions that established the Netherlands as a bicycle paradise, and how North American communities are translating these ideas to build their own cycling cities. In 2019, Melissa and Chris, along with their children Coralie and Etienne, relocated from Vancouver, Canada, to Delft, the Netherlands. Melissa now works with Mobycon—a bicontinental mobility consultancy—supporting the promotion of Dutch transport knowledge, policy, and design principles in countries across Europe and North America. As communications manager for the Dutch Cycling Embassy, Chris uses his knowledge and passion to share practical lessons for global cities wishing to learn from the Netherlands' extraordinary success. Together they continue to be inspired by their new home, watching their children (and countless others) enjoy a quality of life only possible in an environment that puts people first. To learn more about Melissa and Chris and/or to order their books, please visit:http://www.modacitylife.com/To become a Better Place Project Member (and receive free BPP Merch) and support our show, please visit:https://www.patreon.com/BetterplaceprojectTo stay connected with Better Place Project and for updates and behind the scenes info, please follow us on social media: Website: BetterPlaceProject.org(Leave us a voice message directly from the home page of our website)Instagram: @BetterPlaceProj To follow Steve & Erin on Instagram:@SteveNorrisOfficial @ErinorrisFacebook: Facebook.com/BetterPlaceProjectPodcast

Welcome to episode 267 where today we have special guest, founder and CEO of Modactiy, Marc Gelfo, on to talk about practice strategy. In this episode, Marc digs beneath the surface and shares his thoughts on practicing effectively drawing from neuroscience, psychology, and his experience as an extraordinarily accomplished french hornist. Listen to episode 267 When it comes to practicing, we often talk about what you should be practicing to improve your musicianship or your jazz skills. And often some tactics are prescribed. I know that I often prescribe certain practice regimens, different things that you can do to accelerate your progress. But we often don't talk about the deeper side, the brain side, the psychological side of practicing. How we can speed up our development by the way we think, by the way we feel physically. And all these things that are kind of meta and beneath the surface of what we normally talk about when we talk about practicing. So, on today's show, I have very special guest Marc Gelfo, the founder of the practicing app Modacity, to get inside of all this stuff with us, to talk about the mind, the body, and music and how we can apply some real strategies for improving our practicing and improving our progress. In this episode: 1. Marc's background on how he came to effective practicing 2. Why practicing well matters (and the consequences of not) 3. Marc's emotional, mental, and technical practice hacks 4. The role of recording your practice 5. Modacity and how it can help you practice more effectively Important Links 1. Modacity (Marc's Practice App) 2. LJS Inner Circle Membership
Kenneth Knudson recently released an album titled Uummat which was inspired by working on the Western Greenland island of Uummannaq. Knudsen was exposed to the vast, calm and awe-inspiring natural surroundings, which were the first catalyst for a new set of compositions. Soon, a second incidence added a new dimension to the music. During a dinner with the leader of the local orphanage, Knudsen was invited to read from author Lise Andersen’s book Uummat - Stories from the heart, a book documenting the personal experiences of neglect of children from the orphanage. Third, Kenneth encountered the rich Greenlandic folklore in the recently published Bestiarium Groenlandica - an illustrated handbook of mythical beings, spirits and animals. We talk about the inspiration for this album, his continually evolving compositional style, what the pandemic has been like for him, his upcoming trio project, and much more.
