Angela Santomero, co-creator of Blues Blues, creator of Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, Super Why!, and the new Princess Penelope's Purse of Preposterous Things, joins us on The Mom Room this week to talk all about kids media. With a masters in child development, Angela has been a key player in bringing child psychology to kids shows by asking herself the question, 'what if you could put the very best curriculum on TV?' She has applied her "view and do" method to create some of the most highly regarded kids shows, where every moment has something in it that can help influence, inspire, and add to a child's curiosity. Despite the dangers that come with unsupervised media, including misinformation, Angela explains how to approach media so that kids will be intrinsically motivated to watch content that holds valuable learning lessons. Hopefully this episode can help show parents that screen time can be beneficial to a child's understanding of kindness, empathy, self-esteem, and motivate and inspire them to create in the real world. Oona Metz, therapist, author, and speaker, joins The Mom Room this week to talk about the emotional journey of divorce. Oona has led divorce support groups for the past 15 years, and during that time she learned that her patients were wanting a divorce book specifically for women, written by a therapist. On the search to find such book, Oona realized there were none, so she wrote Unhitched: The Essential Divorce Guide For Women. Renee asks Oona questions about the current divorce rates, what is it that breaks a marriage, the emotional labour of women in marriage, why it takes so long for women to choose divorce, and how to choose what's best for the kids. Oona shares the five phase model of divorce grief that she created, her thoughts on the book Strangers: A Memoir of Marriage, and what it really means to co-parent. This episode is full of tangible advice and wisdom from Oona's decades long professional career, and more than anything, it inspires hope that there are healthy ways to fix a marriage, and there are healthy ways to end it without guilt and regret. The Sinus Saga, Burnout & Why I Had to Slow Down

Thursday June 4th: Welcome back to The Mom Room!Today's solo episode starts with a trip down memory lane as I share the full history of my sinus issues, from years of recurring infections to sinus surgery in 2015, the complications that followed, and why this has remained such a frustrating part of my health journey. Then we shift into something that has been on my mind a lot lately: burnout.Over the past year, I started noticing subtle signs that something wasn't quite right. I was feeling irritated by completely normal work emails. Someone would send a polite "just following up" message and I'd immediately feel annoyed. That was my clue that the issue wasn't the email, it was me. I had reached a point where I was constantly working, constantly rushing, and starting to resent something I genuinely love doing. So I've been making some changes. In this episode, I talk about how prioritizing nutrition, movement, daily walks with the dogs, tidying my spaces before sitting down to work, and taking intentional breaks throughout the day has completely changed how I feel. I'm working differently, moving differently, and honestly enjoying my days a lot more.I also share why I'm feeling pulled toward creating something new, a more focused project that feels exciting and meaningful, but first I need to figure out exactly what that thing is.If you've been feeling overwhelmed, stuck in productivity mode, or like you're constantly checking things off a never-ending to-do list, this conversation might be exactly what you need today.Enjoy!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Thursday May 28th, 2026: Welcome back to The Mom Room! Today's solo episode starts with a realization I think a lot of parents are missing when it comes to social media and kids. The reason TikTok or Instagram may seem “harmless” to you… is because YOUR algorithm is tailored to YOU. My feed? Mostly Pomeranians, home content, Bravo drama, and random mom-life videos. So naturally, I assumed kids weren't really stumbling across anything too concerning besides the occasional swear word. Then one day I searched “massage” on TikTok looking for physio therapy exercises, self-massage, and lymphatic drainage videos… and what came up honestly shocked me. It completely changed the way I think about kids having unrestricted access to search features and social media in general. We need to talk about it.I also take a nostalgic detour into my childhood obsession with No Doubt and Gwen Stefani, including the iconic story of how my Grade 6 teacher somehow got a No Doubt t-shirt signed by Gwen just for me (still not over it). And finally, I tell the story of how I managed to absolutely destroy my car in an underground parking garage in Toronto a couple weekends ago… because apparently I need at least one humbling experience per month to keep me grounded.A little parenting, a little nostalgia, a little chaos. Thursday May 21 2026: Welcome back to The Mom Room! In today's solo episode, I'm diving into one of the most misunderstood topics online: parenting “data.”After seeing endless debates and ignorant comments surrounding Tuesday's episode with Emily Oster, I wanted to explain what people actually mean when they reference “the data.” Spoiler alert: it's not one magical study that tells parents how to raise their kids. I break down how research typically works, why the public gets flooded with misleading clickbait headlines from single studies, and how nuance completely disappears once parenting conversations hit the internet.I also talk about why certain parenting topics trigger such intense emotional reactions, and why I think so much of it is connected to identity, guilt, societal pressure, and the impossible standards placed on mothers. Then we switch gears into a very personal rant about perimenopause symptoms that completely blindsided me. Sensitive skin? Perioral dermatitis? Melasma? Apparently hormones can wreak havoc in ways I had absolutely no idea about. If you've been feeling like your body is suddenly doing strange things for no apparent reason… this conversation might make you feel a little less alone. As always, this episode is honest, unfiltered, educational, and sprinkled with a healthy amount of ranting. March 12th 2026: In this solo episode, I'm catching you up on a little bit of everything going on in my world right now. I'm sharing the surprisingly annoying thing about signing kids up for summer camps (why is it always such a competitive sport?!), what turning 41 has been feeling like for me, and why I'm making a renewed effort to get my nutrition back on track alongside CrossFit.I also talk about a shift I'm making in my content this year and what I really want my platforms to stand for: helping moms not lose themselves in motherhood. We're talking identity, hobbies, confidence, and remembering that you're a whole person outside of being someone's mom.Plus, a little life update on what I'm currently reading. I finally started Wuthering Heights, and I'm deep into two memoirs that I cannot stop thinking about.A classic Mom Room catch-up episode: a little motherhood, a little personal growth, a little pop culture, and a lot of real life.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

EP575. Is it ADHD… or is it perimenopause? Or is it both showing up at the same time to completely derail your nervous system? In this solo episode of The Mom Room, Renee gets real about her experience with ADHD, taking Vyvanse, and navigating perimenopause in her late 30s and early 40s. After a conversation with an OBGYN that stopped her in her tracks, Renee explores why so many women feel like their brains and bodies suddenly stop working, and why the overlap between ADHD symptoms and perimenopause symptoms is so often misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or dismissed.Renee breaks down common ADHD symptoms in women, common perimenopause symptoms, where they overlap, and why medications like Vyvanse are helping some women function better during this stage of life. She also shares her personal experience starting birth control to manage perimenopause symptoms, why it helped, why it eventually won't be enough, and what modern hormone replacement therapy (HRT) actually looks like in 2026.This episode is equal parts educational, validating, and rage-inducing (in the best way). If you've been feeling overwhelmed, foggy, irritable, exhausted, or like you're “failing at adulting,” this conversation will make one thing very clear: you are not broken, you are under-supported.Women deserve real information, real treatment, and real quality of life.
