What if failure hits differently depending on your gender? In this episode I speak with Deborah Grayson Riegel, an executive coach and author whose research across 1,100 women in 60 countries reveals why women experience setbacks more intensely than men, and what to do about it.We dig into why women tend to ruminate longer, and see failure as identity rather than event, and where those patterns come from.We explore the practical tools that can shift all of that: how to reframe failure, ask for better feedback, tackle invisible work, and build the kind of support network that helps you aim higher and recover faster. If you are a woman navigating setbacks, this episode will change how you think about failure and what becomes possible on the other side. And if you lead or work alongside women, it will make you a better teammate and leader."Women see failure as their identity, not an event." — Deborah Grayson RiegelYou'll hear aboutWhat failure really means and why it's broader. Why women personalise and ruminate more after setbacks. The five types of failure and which hit hardest. How failure patterns start from age five. The confidence gap versus the consequence gap. Shifting from "what if" to "even if I fail." How to ask for better, more specific feedback. Navigating non-promotable and invisible work. The Ground, Gather and Go framework. Clients consistently engage him to transform talent strategy into economic leverage. He is the author of The 80/20 AI Advantage: Leveraging AI to Attract, Select, and Retain GREAT People, where he challenges leaders to stop using AI as a content machine and start using it as a decision co-pilot. His frameworks focus on eliminating expensive talent mistakes, detecting performance drift before it becomes turnover, and turning HR into a strategic profit driver.Denis reframes talent decisions through a commercial lens:Hiring mistakes are profit leaks.Engagement decline is margin erosion.Leadership blind spots are growth constraints.HR data, properly leveraged, is economic protection.Through his 80/20 AI Talent Framework and Bounce Forward™ leadership system, Denis equips leaders to make faster, smarter, less biased decisions in the next 100 days — and beyond. His core belief:AI will not replace leaders. But leaders who use AI strategically will outperform those who don't.Email: denis@deniscauvier.comWebsite: www.deniscauvier.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drdeniscauvierSummary of PodcastDenis's Approach to Talent ManagementDenis explains his focus on bringing humanity back into the HR process, helping organisations effectively pre-select, develop, and retain exceptional talent in a humanistic way. He emphasises the importance of talent as a key competitive advantage for businesses.Leveraging AI in Human ResourcesDenis discusses the challenges of using AI in talent management, noting that job seekers are often early adopters of AI tools to position themselves, while busy executives may be slower to adopt. He proposes a "5-1-4" formula for effectively leveraging AI in hiring, retaining, and developing talent.Case Study: Improving Hiring and Retention in a Meat Processing PlantDenis shares a case study of a meat processing plant with high employee turnover. By analysing the root causes and implementing targeted solutions, such as revising the supervisor promotion process and improving the hiring process, Denis was able to reduce turnover from 68% to 11%, resulting in significant cost savings for the client. The Importance of Investing in PeopleKevin and Denis discuss the importance of investing in people as the most valuable and appreciating asset for a business, in contrast to other investments that depreciate over time. They emphasise the need for HR to act as a strategic business partner, not just a bureaucratic function.Navigating the Impact of AI on Human ResourcesKevin raises concerns about the potential impact of AI on traditional talent development pipelines, such as using graduate trainees for research tasks. Denis suggests that the key is to develop wisdom and judgment in using AI, focusing on crafting the right prompts and leveraging AI's strengths while maintaining human skills in areas like emotional intelligence and relationship building. The Next 100 Days Podcast Co-HostsGraham ArrowsmithGraham founded Finely Fettled in 2014 to provide data from The UK High Net Worth Database to marketers targeting affluent and high-net-worth customers. What if uncertainty wasn’t something to dread, but something we’re meant to live inside? In this episode, Danielle sits down with Paralympian Amy Purdy, whose life changed overnight at age 19 after losing both of her legs to bacterial meningitis. What followed wasn’t just a story of resilience, it was a complete redefinition of identity, possibility, and what it means to move forward. Amy went on to become a three-time Paralympic medalist, a finalist on Dancing with the Stars, and the author of Bounce Forward. Amy Purdy walked into an operating room at 19 about to lose both legs, and instead of collapsing into fear, she gave herself three goals before the anesthesia took hold. You know that feeling when life pulls the ground out from under you and every identity you had disappears overnight? Amy has lived that more than once, and what she discovered is that the challenges you most want to escape are actually moving you closer to your purpose, not away from it. The key is learning to lean into problems rather than run, to find the smallest sliver of possibility and let it grow. In this conversation, you will walk away with practical tools for building a new identity after loss, understanding why your struggles are not obstacles but doorways, and discovering how staying present transforms the way you compete, create, and connect. Please share how this podcast is affecting your mental well-being. Please also know that we have a course called the "14 Days To Mental Health Wellness" Type this is your search bar. pensight.com/x/winoverdepressionDepression doesn't always announce itself, it often slips in through exhaustion, isolation, and the quiet thought, “I can't do today.” I'm Tamera Trotter, and on Win Over Depression we lean into a different truth: you have resilience inside you, and you can activate it before depression takes hold.We break down what resilience really means. It's not pretending you're okay or forcing positivity. Resilience is the ability to bounce forward with wisdom, strength, and faith after life hits you. We talk about the early warning signs of depression and how awareness becomes your first line of defense. From getting out of bed when you want to disappear, to showering and eating breakfast to jumpstart your energy, we focus on small actions that protect your mental health. You'll also hear how faith strengthens spiritual resilience, even in grief. I share a personal loss and what it teaches about hope, prayer, and holding on to meaningful memories. Then we go practical with coping skills and self-care routines that actually fit real life: 15-minute goals, staying connected because isolation feeds depression, using music to lift your mood, and speaking life over yourself with affirmations that reshape your inner voice. We also explore the difference between coping and resilience, and I walk you through five building blocks you can grow like a muscle: awareness, regulation (including box breathing), perspective, support, and faith. If you're ready to reclaim your joy one decision at a time, press play, subscribe, and share this with someone who needs hope today. Hey Heal Squad! What do you do when life changes in an instant? Today we're finding out from someone who knows exactly what that feels like: Amy Purdy. Amy is a three-time Paralympic medalist, professional snowboarder, motivational speaker, and author. Her new book Bounce Forward: 21 Tools to Live a Life Beyond Limits (out April 14th) not only details Amy's fight for her life at 19, when bacterial meningitis left her with a 2% chance of survival and led to the loss of both of her legs, but also the devastating health crisis years later that once again threatened her mobility. But instead of letting those moments define her limits, Amy rebuilt her life using the same mindset tools she now shares in Bounce Forward. Amy opens up about the mindset shifts that helped her move from survival to strength, including the power of visualization, and learning how to stay fully present when life feels overwhelming (like not being able to be on a snowboard for the past 7 years!). With the Paralympics happening right now, this conversation is a powerful reminder of the determination, resilience, and gold-medal mindset it takes to rise again when the odds feel stacked against you. HEALERS & HEAL LINERS Visualization can support both performance and healing: Amy used daily visualization, imagining snowboarding, and running again, to help her body recover during her most difficult medical battles. Your relationship with your body matters: One of Amy's most powerful practices is shifting from criticizing the body to appreciating it, even writing letters of gratitude to the body for everything it continues to do. Today's coaching segment features Charlene Naicker — Life Coach, NLP Practitioner, and Neurozone®–accredited Brain & Body Physiology Coach. We unpack the journey from human doing back to human being, practical ways to spot and disarm impostor syndrome, and small, intentional habits that build real resilience: breathing, grounding, journaling, circadian rhythms, energy management, and “bouncing forward” (not just “back”).We also explore how belonging, inclusion, and the brain–body connection drive performance at work — plus a simple mental memo: “Under New Management.”
Resilience is not just about being able to bounce-back. It's about bouncing-forward stronger and wiser than before. It's about realising that your pre-crisis life is now gone, but your new life – if you will it – can contain within it opportunities you may never have dreamed possible. From our archive I've brought together some fundamental lessons on resilience, distilled insights from best-selling author Kit De Waal, world-renowned broadcaster Piers Morgan, business legend and founder of AO.com John Roberts, British cyclist Mark Beaumont, train accident survivor Sarah De Lagarde and geopolitical communications strategist Mark Turnbull. Each of their stories are individual and unique, but shared among them is a strength not just to carry on but to squeeze the very best out of the tools and life they've been given. LESSONS YOU'LL LEARN: Resilience isn't innate – it's built. Like a muscle, it strengthens through repeated habits, training, and choosing to act in ways that rewire the brain for adaptability.Attitude is everything. You can't control what happens, but you can control your response.Slow down to survive. In moments of extreme crisis, breaking situations into small, manageable steps allows you to act decisively and effectively.Purpose drives progress. When you focus your energy on positive actions they often come back in ways you can't predict.Let go of fear and judgment. Stop holding yourself back because of what others think; true resilience requires authenticity and self-belief.
Send us a textDr. Robyne Hanley-Dafoe shares a deeply human approach to resilience, grounded in both research and personal experience. She introduces the five pillars of resilience—belonging, perspective, acceptance, hope, and humor—as essential anchors for navigating adversity. Rather than viewing resilience as simply “being strong,” she reframes it as the ability to recover, adapt, and move forward with intention. Her concept of “stressing wisely” challenges the idea that stress should be avoided; instead, she encourages proactive strategies like planning ahead, honoring personal values, and building strong support systems. Through her work, Dr. Hanley-Dafoe invites us to let go of perfection, embrace authenticity, and focus on the small, consistent actions that help us bounce forward—not just back.Learn more about *The Resistance Remedy* On Demand Course(Grab it now to get the Bonus S.I.P. For the second episode of Season 3, we're bringing back a Bounce Forward fan favorite, Haley Smith. If you haven't listened to Episode 1 of Season 3, with Haley, we'd highly encourage you to do so as it sets the table for this most recent conversation. In the days following her return from South Africa, Haley and I sat down to unpack her eight stages of racing on the Western Cape, for the legendary Absa Cape Epic. In this conversation we explore Haley's take on resilience, how she navigated the struggle bus early on, lessons she learned about herself and her racing parter and why the teammate component of the Cape Epic makes for a truly special and eye opening experience. Filled with Haley insights and wisdom, we dive beyond the watts, exploring how she overcomes self-doubt, mantras, mental cues, the power of believing in potential, and why it's easier to suffer in a pair. Haley Smith is one of the biggest names in the world of North American off road cycling and a Bounce Forward original. In today's conversation, on International Women's Day, we take a deep dive with one of our favorite International Women—Canadian off road racer, Haley Smith. On the eve of her trip to South Africa to race the notorious Cape Epic Stage Race, we explore the immense health challenges that Haley navigated in 2024 and how she mentally prepared to return to racing after a year of adversity. We'll also discuss topics such as courage and confidence in endurance racing, how she's diversifying her race calendar, and why Haley isn't shying away from pursuing performance goals in her post oxygen-less Haley season.. Haley shares a shift in perspective and how for the first time, she's learning the value of rest in life and training. Honest, transparent, thoughtful, Haley always inspires and impresses with her wisdom and witty sense of humor. From feeling like she was suffocating on the bike (and on the couch), to navigating the uncertainty of whether she'd ever race again, Haley takes us into the heart of her struggles and how she's endured and come out the other side, stronger—mentally and physically—despite, and perhaps because of the hardship. Raw, real and honest, Haley shares how she's feeling freer, lighter and more grounded than ever. This one's a real treat and true to the Bounce Forward mission of how we rise from illness, loss and setback. We're couldn't be more excited to announce a new partnership here at the Bounce Forward and Be Audacious. We're teaming up with one of the fastest (and baddest) men on two wheels, Cole Paton. The Bounce Forward as you know it isn't going anywhere, we'll still do long form, in depth conversations with athletes and performers, but we're going to add another layer with our new show within the show Roll On, Cole Paton. In this first episode of Roll On, Cole Paton, we take a deep dive into Cole's time in Bentonville for the final event of the 2024 Life Time Grand Prix—Big Sugar. We explore the mental challenges Cole had to hurdle, unable to race the final weekend of his season. In true Roll On and Bounce Forward fashion, Cole shares how he worked through being too sick to compete in the last big throw down of 2024 and how he's embracing the beginning of his off-season. With the show title, Roll On, we're giving a nod to Cole's path as one of the top off-road endurance cyclists in North America, staying true to what it looks like to ‘Bounce Forward,' while representing where we grew up, the Evergreen State, and the Columbia River watershed, ‘Roll On Columbia roll on,' if you know, you know. With Roll On, we're going to bring you stories from inside the game, inside the mind and inside the season of Cole Paton. We're going to consistently connect with Cole, checking in, unpacking things after the highs and lows of big events, like Leadville, any and all Life Time Grand Prix races and Marathon Worlds and Nationals, just to name a few. These conversations will be raw, real and vulnerable—and as a result, we believe, really powerful, adding value and telling some damn good stories. We'll also utilize this show as an opportunity for Cole to share any big announcements, or just riff, talk story and share what's on his mind. Our goal here is to share Cole's experiences afield with the world—with you, the listener. If you don't know Cole, you're about to, and I can tell you with 100% certainty, he's the real deal. We plan to bring some fresh perspective and strong energy—while keeping it light and loose. We're really passionate about this canvas we're painting, this connection we're building and this thing we're creating. We hope you'll join us on this journey.
