In this conversation, she talks about carrying old cases in your heart, the particular loneliness of a field where there's often no one to debrief with, and why "forgive yourself" might be the most important advice she has for any pet professional. If you've ever second-guessed a past decision or felt like you were the only one struggling, this one is for you. https://colleenpelar.com/163

Hey Voices from the Bench community! Jessica Love here, sending a shoutout from Utah! If you're passionate about creating natural, beautiful smiles—but want to simplify your workflow without sacrificing aesthetics—this is for you. I'm honored to be part of Ivoclar's development team introducing a powerful new stain and glaze system featuring Structure Paste, IPS e.max Ceram Art. Create stunning depth and lifelike color in as little as one firing. Let's continue to innovate, simplify, and create meaningful change—one smile at a time. When it comes to digital dentures, design is easy—manufacturing is where things get messy. That's why the Elevate Denture Solution brings it all together. Built by Roland DGSHAPE, Ivoclar, and FOLLOW-ME! Technology Group, it combines machine, materials, and CAM into one fully optimized workflow—so you get consistent, high-quality results without the guesswork. Want to simplify production and scale with confidence? Check it out at rollanddga.com/elevate. Live from LMT Lab Day Chicago, Elvis and Barb bring the mics to the Ivoclar stage for three very different conversations that all point to one big theme—this industry is evolving fast, and you better evolve with it. First up, Savannah Elkins and Josh Williams from GPS Digital RPD jump into the digital removable world, where analog roots meet full-on additive workflows. Savannah shares how she went from pouring models to cranking out 100+ RPD frameworks a day, learning design in record time through hands-on training and a little “YouTube University.” The conversation dives into printed frameworks, flexible materials, and the push toward becoming a full lab-to-lab removable resource. It's fast, it's scalable, and yes… they absolutely test durability by throwing, stepping on, and possibly feeding things to alligators. Next, Darin McCue from SalesLift Consulting flips the script and talks about what's really holding labs back—and it's not production. With a mix of passion and hard truth, Darin explains that most lab owners aren't failing because they can't make teeth—they're failing because they don't run a business. From leadership and communication to sales and team culture, he challenges owners to step off the bench and into a leadership role before burnout or failure forces the issue. His message is clear: if you don't work on your business, it will eventually work against you. Finally, Vicki Thomas and Carrie Ling bring a completely different energy, focused on community, collaboration, and leveling the playing field for smaller labs. Vicki shares the story behind launching Savvy Lab Solutions, a buying group built to give small and mid-sized labs access to the same pricing and vendor relationships as the big players. Carrie backs it up with real-world experience, explaining how vendors now proactively reach out with discounts and new products—saving time, money, and opening doors she didn't even know existed. The conversation highlights the power of partnerships, word-of-mouth growth, and the realization that 78% of the industry is made up of labs that have historically been overlooked. London Civil Case - Thank you for your supportThe Civil Case against me in London came to an end last Friday when the Claimants and their lawyers accepted a ‘drop hands settlement of the extant claim on the conditions that:1. the Claimants file and serve a Notice of Discontinuance by 10 am 20 March 2026; and2. that there be no order for costs'In other words, they accepted an offer, made by me the previous evening, that they discontinue their claim. I instructed my legal team to make the offer because it was apparent at the end of day eight of the trial that the claimants case, as presented by McCue and Jury, the lawyers for the claimants, was in serious trouble. I gave them a way out. Dolores Keane – A Great VoiceI have always loved music. All kinds of music but I have a particular fondness for Irish traditional and folk music. I think by the time I heard De Danann's first album, with Dolores Keane's amazing voice leading the vocals, I was probably in Cage 11. That first Dé Danann album was incredible and over the subsequent years I never stopped being astonished by the uniqueness of Dolores Keane's magnificent voice.

Steve McCue is a trapper, naturalist, all-around outdoorsman & Vice President of the West Virginia Trappers Association from Nicholas County, West Virginia. On this in-the-field episode we visit his wall-tent camp and head out for a morning on the bobcat trapline. After a 1929 reading about handling & relocating backcountry bobcats, Steve opens on the significance of the bygone American chestnut. We hear of his deep Appalachian roots & how his outdoorsman lifestyle is a spiritual pursuit that reaches back into pre-history where trapping was the oldest way to procure food & clothing. After some archaeological examples of ancient trapping, Steve describes the 4-types of modern trappers: the hobbyist, the animal damage controller, the longliner, and the territorial/conservationist. From there we get into the natural history of Steve's favorite furbearers starting with the gray fox whose population is in decline. Leaving the tent behind, Steve walks & talks on the trapline about such things as: chaga foraging; uses of birch bark; the origin of "fairy-diddle;" making cat sets; skunk essence; lure-making as the witchy side of trapping; and what one might find in a bobcat's stomach. We wrap it up on what we've learned from reading historical accounts, how an inexperienced trapping family survived on plants alone in the north woods followed by Daniel Boone's bear bacon enterprise. Episode SummaryIn this episode of The Stream by AASHTO, George McCue, Emerging Mobility Assistant Director at the Indiana Department of Transportation, and Dr. Steven Pekarek, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University, discuss a new electric vehicle project that seeks to create a wireless, electrified roadway that charges vehicles as they drive across the road. The pair discuss the science behind the project, the partnership between the university and Indiana DOT, and what it could mean for the future of electric vehicles.Episode NotesThis podcast series is part of the AASHTO Environmental Management technical service program operated by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. It explores a wide array of environmental topics that affect state departments of transportation and the infrastructure programs they oversee. In this episode, George McCue with the Indiana DOT and Dr. Steven Pekarek from Purdue University are interviewed by Bernie Wagenblast regarding an electric vehicle charging project they are conducting under the auspices of the Joint Transportation Research Program. The project is testing a dynamic wireless power transfer or “DWPT” system, whereby transmitter coils underneath the road can send energy to an electric vehicle without ever having to plug it in – a power transfer system that is similar to wireless charger technology for smart phones. In West Lafayette, Indiana, Indiana DOT and Purdue have successfully tested a quarter mile of highway on U.S. Route 231 and U.S. Route 52 equipped with over 80 transmitter coils that carried charge to the test vehicle. On the podcast, McCue and Pekarek discuss the multi-faceted aspects of the DWPT project, including the economic viability of the project's technology, potential size limits of vehicles able to use the road, and working on public roadways that can see thousands of drivers daily. Both stress that this DWPT project could significantly expand the range of electric vehicles on U.S. highways.

From navigating a chaotic healthcare system during lockdown, to explaining assisted dying with honesty and compassion, Clare opens a window onto the realities few families ever speak of.The conversation explores:The emotional, legal and practical steps of pursuing assisted death in Canada. How Clare and Mattie made space for dignity and agency, even in decline. The raw reality of telling a child that his father had chosen the time and place of his death. How organ donation added a powerful sense of legacy to Mattie's final act.The ways Clare turned grief into action through community fundraising and everyday rituals with Hudson. As Clare says, “Hope wasn't that everything would be okay, but that there would be meaning in how it worked out.”This is an extraordinary story of love, courage, and the controversial but profoundly human choice of assisted death.

You might think you would never get botox, but the allure of looking younger can get to just about anyone! This is what happened to today's guest, a self-described crunchy mom who decided to get the teeniest amount of botox treatment to diminish fine lines around her eyes. And it totally wrecked her health. Megan McCue is the author of Notox and Me Tox Pretty. And today she explains how that single treatment of Botox turned her life (and health) upside down. She goes over what happened to her--how she essentially became incapacitated, unable to work or care for her children, and how her doctor dismissed her concerns, suggesting she was simply anxious. Megan goes over the history of this product, its black box warnings, its prevalent use among young people and why she is an outspoken advocate for informed consent and pharmaceutical transparency. Finally, she makes clear that the symptoms of botulism can last years, which is one of the many reasons she recommends we steer clear of it. In this podcast episode, host Michelle Frechette welcomes Carrie Dils, Mika Epstein, and Ryan McCue to discuss their roles in the WordPress community and the new FAIR project. The group explores FAIR's mission to create a federated independent repository system for WordPress plugins and themes, focusing on decentralization, community-driven moderation, inclusive governance, and privacy. They address challenges like supporting premium plugins, reducing environmental impact, and fostering global participation. The episode highlights FAIR's collaborative, open-source approach and invites listeners to get involved through GitHub and community meetings, aiming to shape a more innovative and inclusive WordPress ecosystem.Top Takeaways:FAIR Is Reimagining Plugin Discovery and Trust for WordPress: FAIR is building a more open, decentralized ecosystem for WordPress plugin discovery—empowering both end users and developers. By enabling verified directories and authenticated plugin listings (via methods like DNS verification), FAIR provides an alternative to the limitations of the WordPress.org repo, while increasing transparency, user safety, and trust.Community Participation Is Central to FAIR's Success: The FAIR initiative is deeply community-driven. Contributors are encouraged to get involved through GitHub Discussions, introduce themselves, offer help, or join working groups. The leadership team is intentionally building these groups based on people's skills and availability, rather than predefined roles—making FAIR flexible, inclusive, and open to evolving needs.FAIR Encourages Innovation Outside Traditional WordPress Constraints: The project provides an alternative path for plugin creators who may not want to follow the traditional WordPress.org model (e.g., having to release a free version first). With FAIR, creators can request to be listed in aggregator directories that are more flexible, values-aligned, or niche-focused—fostering innovation and lowering barriers to entry.FAIR Is Still in Early Development—and Actively Growing: While the FAIR plugin and protocol are live (accessible via fair.pm), the ecosystem is in its formative stages. The team is prioritizing essential needs (the “MVP”) and building infrastructure to support future growth in documentation, marketing, design, development, and user testing. They welcome feedback on plugin issues, conflicts, and ideas, encouraging broad experimentation and iteration.Mentioned in the Show:FAIRLinkedIn LearningAwesome MotiveLez Watch TVHuman MadeAspire PressGravatarLinux Foundation ProjectBlueskyWPCCBlack PressMastodon DrupalCourtney RobertsonAutomatticMediaWikiMonster InsightsGravity FormsFastly
It's been famously said in Canada that if you don't like your weather out the front door, just take a look out the back door instead, where you're sure to find something more to your liking. Similar phrasing might be appropriate when discussing the NCAA rule change that has shifted the ground beneath junior hockey in Canada: if you don't like how the rule change is impacting the CHL this week, just wait a week and your feelings are likely to change. The environment has been that turbulent in this new era, which currently still resembles the wild, wild west. And the rollercoaster ride isn't likely to end anytime soon, so just let Farwell and Dan be your steady hands as we navigate this new landscape (trust us, we tried to get a hot take out of Dan this week and he wouldn't bite). The guys this week discuss how the tide has turned back in the OHL's direction, and the lengths that teams are going through to set themselves apart. Also, the Branch era in the OHL appears to have officially ended. Then, it's off to Oshawa where a strange coaching carousel continues to rotate and the marquee franchise pours cold water on sale rumours (remember what we always say about rumours in the OHL??). Finally, McCue is on the move again and the guys like the destination. But they don't like what happened to an old friend in the NHL. Working comedian Liam Hales was our super fun guest this week. Liam can be seen somewhere in New England every weekend hosting or featuring. Most Saturday's Liam is at McCue's Comedy Club in Portsmouth – Also a regular at Smitty's Cinema's (in Maine & NH) as well as City Winery in Boston to name a few places. He is also an integral part of the Boston Comedy Festival production team. After time in a college improv troop, Liam spend a few years in Los Angeles working the comedy scene (where he cross paths with our great friend of ours Sally Mullin's - Sleazy Does It On Amazon Prime) Liam's material is very open, personal and relatable. He's liked by and he cracks up all the big name comics (like Tony V) he works with and also goes out of his way to help the new comics (like Jacques) get stage time (as a comic and a host0 and is always so encouraging and supportive. Between his kindness and being 6-6 and build like a lot 70s Buick station wagon, Liam exemplifies the term gentle giant … but I still wouldn't want to heckle him. Also, a big thank you to Liam for letting us use clips from his awesome comedy album: Please Forgive Me (available on Apple Music and other places … and there are some fun clips on YouTube as well). Emily and Jamie start off this episode by discussing their excitement for a corporate workshop and Emily's relatable struggle with using her Dyson blow dryer. This week, they welcome Ellen McCue to their podcast, to talk about potty training, a common concern amongst Nurture clients and instagram followers. Ellen is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner who is a familiar face on the Nurture platform, providing practical and evidence-based advice to parents. Jamie, Emily, and Ellen break down potty training, starting by emphasizing that there is no “right” age to potty train a child. They then delve into various aspects of potty training, focusing on both daytime and nighttime training. They share personal anecdotes and insights into the challenges parents face during the process. Ellen emphasizes the normalcy of boys and girls wetting the bed at older ages and advises against rushing nighttime potty training, suggesting that it often happens naturally over time. They also touch on the importance of addressing constipation issues and how it can affect potty training progress, as well as sleep issues and behavioral patterns related to accidents in older children. They provide reassurance to parents, potty training is often a process, encouraging them to be patient and understanding throughout the potty training journey. In this week's Q&A segment, Emily and Jamie answer a question about whether giving a child too much dairy is possible, providing both the medical perspective and practical advice for parents dealing with picky eaters. They emphasize the importance of balance and moderation in a child's diet and encourage listeners to join their Nurture membership for more daily insights and support.
