“Send Coach John a message”Love these connections that present themselves to me, every single day! Now, I do go looking for them - but it is powerful to find things that others have put out there that are there to get my attention and to make a difference with me and others. I'm sure glad I'm able to pay attention a little bit in order to grab these gems. This one came from my reading of “Areté - Activate Your Heroic Potential” by Brian Johnson (@heroicbrian). From page 507 - this one is all about Efficient vs. Effective and how one is good for time and the other is good for people. “Send Coach John a message”I found something I wanted to share and it comes from Motivational Quotes (@motivational) and it's something that adds to my strength and optimism here in the new year. “Remaining positive doesn't mean you have to be happy all the time. It means that even on tough days, you hold onto the belief that better days are on the horizon.” This is something that has been a part of my mindset for a long time. However, I needed reminding of this fact as there are plenty of times I forget the second part as I wallow away in dealing with negativity at times. It helps remind me that I am the one that has a major say in creating better days in my life!! Again, with all the “noise” going on around all of us - this helps to add to my strength of realizing that I'm more in control of my life than the “noise makers” think they are. Thanks for listening. As if I needed another rule to follow. This one is something you will want to connect with I think and it's not that difficult to understand. From Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) where this is shared: “The Rule of 100 - If you spend 100 hours a year in any discipline, (which is only 18 minutes a day), you'll be better than 95% of the world in that discipline. Consistency is everything.” This is something that anyone can connect to any discipline or more than one discipline. Just think of the great things you can do, not to say your #1, but to make a difference with others. To have a service, product, idea, etc., that can help others - just because you had the faith and effort to have consistency in doing what lights you up! The world needs this - more people to share the things that light that spark within them. Thanks for listening. Found a powerful post from Mind Essentials (@Mind_Essentials) where the quote was shared on the side of a building. (like it's that important for us to see it) The quote? It's right here: “Life's already hard, I don't wanna be around anyone who makes it worse.” )The quote comes from @bestmemory.) This point has already been on my radar for as long as I can remember. I've always said that life and other people will make life hard - why would I make it any harder for myself. Now that doesn't mean that I have it all figured out and I haven't always listened to this quote. I struggle too. I just hope and plan to not keep struggling with this. I will still work on not letting myself help the world and others that cause troubles!! Then I will also be working on not causing myself problems too. Thanks for listening. Found a very true statement from one of the best at putting out difference-making posts. Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) shared this one that I found plenty of examples of the second part of the quote (sorry to say): “You'll never be criticized by someone who is doing more than you. You'll always be criticized by someone doing less. Remember that.” ~ Denzel Washington. Those that know how things are done correctly - with class, character, hard work, etc., will usually always encourage rather than criticize. Those that have no character and have a title, have a lot of money, have status, and all that, and they maybe gained it by lying, cheating, stealing, etc., they usually are the ones that criticize (and even make fun of, put others down, etc. I think all of us need to go back to looking to do things in our lives to tilt the playing field back to kindness, encouragement, compassion, etc. Go back to podcast episode #1648 - the Ripple Effect!! [Preview 2025] Spéciale Group of 5 : qui succédera à Boise State en play-offs ? by The Trick Play - College Football/NCAA
Over 75 years after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor that launched America's entry into the Second World War, one persistent question remains unanswered: "Did President Franklin D. Roosevelt have foreknowledge of the attack---and did he (and his senior military leadership) then withhold that knowledge from his overseas commanders in Hawaii?" Douglas P. Horne, a former Naval Officer who recently completed 40 years of combined military-and-civilian service to the Federal Government, deals directly with this most difficult of all questions about World War II, in the first major "Revisionist" work about Pearl Harbor written in the last decade. Contrary to recent assertions by mainstream historians that the Revisionist hypothesis is now dead, Horne finds it to be more robust than ever. In the first known work that studies FDR's foreign policy "on the road to Pearl Harbor" as a timeline, or chronology (which assesses numerous factors---including codebreaking, diplomacy, military strategy, the unfolding events in Europe, and the personality and words of FDR himself), the author compellingly presents his own unique findings regarding the longstanding allegation by Revisionists that FDR used the impending Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor as a "back door to war." Horne concludes there is, indeed, persuasive evidence that once FDR's undeclared naval war against Hitler in the north Atlantic failed to provide the desired casus belli (which would have allowed him to request a declaration of war against Nazi Germany), then consequently, permitting the Imperial Japanese Navy to attack Pearl Harbor---without providing any specific advance warning to the Hawaiian field commanders (i.e., allowing the Japanese to "fire the first shot" and commit "an overt act of war")---became the last, best chance for FDR to get a united America into the Second World War. FDR's overriding goal throughout 1940-41 was the imperative to get America involved, as a belligerent, in the war against Hitler's Germany, and the Japanese attack accomplished that goal, as Roosevelt knew it would. Both the timing of when FDR apparently received his foreknowledge of the impending attack, and the mechanism by which it was likely delivered, are thoroughly considered in this work. Author Douglas Horne also provides a critical assessment of the most recent Revisionist works, and using a new approach to the "big question" about Pearl Harbor, provides a bold new interpretation of events that will surprise most readers.https://amzn.to/4owLBL2Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

I found a great post that reminded me the importance of being a consistent person, every day! This one comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and it's titled “Consistency Wins: Because it's not what you do once in a while that matters. It's what you do every day.” I have been trying to work on this mindset for a long time and still haven't figured it all out. But, I'm open to keep trying for sure. I think all of us could do well by trying to be more consistent in the good things we know we need to do, on an every day basis. Thanks for listening. Saw a very “reflective” post that got me thinking about some things and as always, I hope it gets you thinking too. From Mind Essentials (@Mind_Essentials) where they share the thought that “you cannot see your reflection in boiling water. Similarly, you cannot see the truth in a state of anger. When the water calms, clarity comes.” This reminded me of the fact that there is much work I still need to do. It's something that I choose to work on. Something I get to work on. Score another great post from liminal (@Liminal1988) where we are reminded about a very simple thought: “Do a good job.” With this thought, it's all about no matter what we do in life. Whatever calling / profession we have, simple & powerful… do a good job! It's something that I know I need to work on for sure. One part really stuck with me: “Fully invest yourself in the things you're tending to.” I got to tell you. Here I am, in my very late 50's in age and I know I still have so much more to do & accomplish. This is helping me to not only see a future podcast episode or two, but also it's inspiring me to keep sharing these messages. Wow.. morning reflections as I'm putting this show together - with my morning coffee… all equals out to some good stuff. Thanks for listening. I found this powerful, yet simple reminder about what growth is not connected to. Motivational Quotes (@motivational) reminds us that: “Anyone who has grown mentally, physically, or spiritually knows that growth is not found in comfort.” Don't get me wrong, there are times to be comfortable for sure. But, I know I can't spend most of every day looking to simply be comfortable. I need to put action behind things that I must do, get to do, want to do, etc. Talk with that person in the mirror to see what's next for you to tackle. Thanks for listening. Found something that got me to sit back on do some reflecting on this message. It comes from Power of Positivity (@LIVEpositivity) “What if things work out even better than you imagined?” It really comes down to at least trying to do something or more than one thing, and realizing that by simply trying, it could indeed work out just like you thought it would. Maybe even it could end up being better than you thought. WOW.. wouldn't that be great?? Powerful stuff to realize the possibility of learning something even if it doesn't work. Found a quick, but powerful life lesson from Mind Essentials (@Mind_Essentials) - “You can't go back and change the beginning, But you can start where you are and change the ending.” I know for me I do tend to beat myself up a bit about my past mistakes but I'm realizing more and more as I age that I can only deal with where I'm at right now in my life. I'm much better off to realize that I need to take the lessons from my past and apply that knowledge to where I'm at now so that my future can be better. Again, our best mentor is our past!! Send us a textAbout the GuestCait Donovan is a burnout recovery expert, acupuncturist, speaker, and host of Fried the Burnout Podcast. With a background in Chinese medicine and a deep understanding of resilience, Cait helps high performers recognize, recover from, and prevent burnout by cultivating self-awareness, setting boundaries, and redefining success.About the Episode:In this episode, host Steve Mellor sits down with Cait Donovan to explore the concept of bounce back ability—a broader and more sustainable approach to resilience. Cait shares insights on burnout recovery, the importance of interoception (internal self-awareness), and how high performers can create a more sustainable path to success. She also explains why asking for help is the key to true resilience and why burnout prevention isn't always realistic.Key Takeaways:✅ Resilience alone isn't enough. True growth-ready individuals cultivate bounce back ability, which includes resilience, self-trust, surrender, grit, and agility.✅ Many high performers miss early signs of burnout due to low interoception (body awareness). The focus should be on recovery, not just prevention.✅ Foundational self-care (listening to your body's signals) is crucial. Simple habits like “pee when you need to pee” are game-changers.✅ Resentment highlights where your boundaries are being crossed and where you're neglecting yourself. Recognizing it can help you reclaim energy and focus.✅ True resilience isn't about pushing through alone; it's about increasing your resources through asking for help and building a strong support system.✅ Success isn't just about productivity; it's about maintaining energy, presence, and balance in all areas of life.Links and Resources

Just read David Halberstam's 2005 book on Bill Belichick, "The Education of a Coach." Through the lens of Halberstam's book, this episode explores the life and coaching philosophy of Bill Belichick, one of the greatest coaches in NFL history. The discussion delves into his early education, influences, and the lessons he learned from failures, particularly during his time with the Cleveland Browns. It emphasizes the importance of humility, teamwork, and mastering the details, while also highlighting translatable principles that can be applied to personal and professional success. Takeaways Bill Belichick's coaching philosophy is rooted in details and hard work. Education at Andover Academy shaped Belichick's approach to football. Failure in Cleveland taught Belichick valuable lessons for future success. Humility is crucial; remember your failures as well as your successes. Teamwork is paramount; individual egos must be submerged for the greater good. Belichick's focus on the process over the results is a key principle. Mastering the details is essential for success in any field. Actions speak louder than words; let your work define you. Life is unpredictable; savor each day as it could be your last. More learning as I always remember that success leaves clues. This guy is one who shares these clues every single day in many different ways. Ben Newman has his Burn Podcast - this episode was pure gold. This episode titled “A Strong Lesson in Taking Ownership”, has so many nuggets in it, I've already listened to it twice. I will listen to it again soon. The one key idea I'm connecting here for you is that when things don't go our way, (and that happens a lot in life) a great mindset (reset) is to say “So what? Now what?” So what is the way to say, hey… it doesn't matter that whatever happens, Now what am I going to do about it? How will I respond? Take a listen to the link above & take some notes too. Such a simple & totally true message for all of us to remember to just keep going!! Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard) shares this, “No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn't trying.” - Tony Robbins. Just keep trying!! Don't quit! Don't stop! Keep asking for help when we need it. Keep working on yourself to become better. This hit me hard because it's what I'm trying to do & also, I'm not too worried about those that are not trying as I'm trying to not compare myself to others. I simply need to know that I will get to where I want to go, as long as I don't stop. Same goes for you!

Had an amazing chat with my friend Tricia a few days ago that really left a major impact on me and I hope it will leave you with some thoughts too. She's part of our Difference Maker group that I've been blessed to be part of for a few years now, and she reached out to me to share a powerful story with me. She was recently with a larger number of her family celebrating another family member's life, who was battling cancer. Well, the journey took Tricia on a self-reflective ride of emotions, love, humbleness, and a look at her life's journey. It has helped me to do the same. The advice she got from her older aunt was priceless. She wished Tricia to have a life of “richness in emotional health.” WOW.. .what a great reflective piece for all of us. Keep this close to your heart my friends and go after creating it in your life. Thanks for listening. I found another thought-provoking & heart-connecting post, this one from Gratitude HQ (@gratefuledu64). It helps to remind all of us that we can be “that one” for so many people, moments, ourselves and things in our lives. One of the powerful items on this list reminds us about the simple act of smiling and how it can connect with others. I'm trying to do this one a bit more wherever I go for sure. The others on this list will help all of us in so many ways. Thanks for listening. Always enjoy connecting with my buddy Coach Rich Popp (@Coach4254). His message in this post is a powerful reminder - as always, I needed to see this, before I saw it: “Our response to adversity will move us through or hold us back. Respond accordingly. Peace.” I know I need to look at the many opportunities to have it help move me forward and not always hold me back or slow me down. Remember, adversity happens all the time - no sense in helping it out by choosing to let it run us over day after day. It's a time to learn and get better. Thanks for listening. Saw this post and again, it caught my eye. Looking at this statement, reminds me that I go out of my way to find things like this. I think it's part of what being a lifelong learner is all about. I found this post from a Steve Collins (@TeachHoopsBBall) and he said: “The Secret Ingredient to a Winning Attitude: 1.) Humility - be teachable at every step 2.) Optimism - Believe in the win, even before the game starts.” I like this combination - not just for sports but for all of life. Take this to heart and see what comes from this recipe. I found this post from a former Lion - Dan Orlovsky (former Detroit Lion QB) - (@danorlovsky7), who shared the simple thought: “People who copy will always be one step behind.” HUGE reminder for me of my days as a young student, cutting corners… not doing my own work and I knew at the time it wasn't the way to go, but I eventually learned the value of doing my own work. Today - it's about building our own authentic life. We see “copy cats” all the time and we know that's not the way to go. This is a big reminder for me and hopefully for you, to build our lives on our own dreams and around the people that we love being with. So many people lose their way trying to be a copy of someone that's already taken. Thanks for listening. Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) comes out with great content every single day. Someone like him who is devoted to making a difference with people with not only the 28 + books he has written, but also what he's building with others - he's one that you want to be connected with. In this post, Jon puts the question out there - why are we here? I love this point he brings up in looking to answer that question: “To go through the motions and be average or put your heart and soul into your work and pursue excellence.” The rest of his post really got me thinking and I hope it will do the same for you too. This is a powerful reminder that was shared out there by Coach AJ Kings (@coachajkings) from Michael Strahan said, "We're our own worst enemy. You doubt yourself more than anybody else ever will. If you can get past that, you can be successful." This hit home with me and even as I typed this I was reminded just a few minutes ago that I am still struggling with this and trying to work on it more than ever before. At least I know I am heading in the right direction by acknowledging this fact that I need to work on it. Hope you can pick up something too from this. Thanks for listening. Jamie is sharing that in a world of financial advisors claiming to be "comprehensive," they've done a terrible job distinguishing what they do and who they serve. It's like trying to find your way in a maze of financial jargon. Instead, her approach is to be a client's financial lifeline from day one – they're not just here for the big decisions; they're the 411 and the 911. She's also sharing some hard-to-notice realities: You're likely great at helping others, but you're terrible at taking care of yourself. That includes looking at your succession plan because it's not just about retirement at 65; it's about preserving those relationships you've built over a lifetime. So, stop taking things for granted and give yourself the same TLC you give your clients. https://bit.ly/3LmQlRG

This is a continuation on that powerful post from the Napoleon Hill Foundation and this one has 5 Great Rules of Success. This is part 3 of 5 which is "Plan Your Work and Work Your Plan". So many thoughts on this one for all of us to connect to for sure. We need to be mindful of our plan for whatever it is in life that we want to work on - then we need to do the things to make it work. Thanks for listening.
