Aaron Geller has been playing guitar for 30 years and is regularly playing around the Roanoke and NRV area in a variety of styles: Blues, Appalachian, Hip Hop, Latin Jazz, Acoustic rock (even though he's a metal head shredder at heart). He also writes instrumental acoustic music. When not playing music, he's either teaching Chemistry at Virginia Tech or hanging out a brewery (possibly getting his lectures ready).

Welcome to the Humans of Nutrition Podcast brought to you by Registered Nutritionists Anna Wheeler and Prof Danielle McCarthy. In this podcast Anna and Danielle chat to Professor Sue Lanham-New, Professor of Human Nutrition and Head of Nutritional Science Department at University of Surrey. Sue's research focuses on Vitamin D – she is passionate about helping people living with osteoporosis and happily volunteers her time and expert knowledge to osteoporosis charities.  A true “Human of Nutrition”! Anna and Danielle step back in time, returning to the University of Surrey where they studied, became friends and first met Sue in the lecture theatre! Fast forward to April 2024, and Anna and Danielle are back at University of Surrey, delivering a careers workshop to final year nutrition students in the morning, and catching up with Sue in the afternoon! We hear about the ground-breaking research on Vitamin D that Sue leads on.  At the start of this journey, the UK did not have an RNI for Vitamin D due to the assumption that we had enough sunlight in summer months to generate, store and utilise through the winter months.  It's clear that the evidence around Vitamin D moved on, thanks in no small part to Sue and her colleagues, leading to the establishment of an RNI for Vitamin D in 2016. Sue is generous in giving credit to her team, informing us about ongoing research projects such as the differing Vitamin D requirements in ethnic groups, Vitamin D / iron interaction, and investigating Vitamin D supplementation in the management of acute respiratory tract infections.  She is honest about the difficulties securing funding for research projects but demonstrates how resilience and determination pays off. Here's the science bit – do you know: ·      the difference between Vitamin D2 and Vitamin D3? ·      their different metabolic pathways? ·       which type is preferred for supplementation? ·       your micrograms from your international units? ·       what the RNI is? ·       what the safe upper limit is? ·       why, on food labelling, the NRV is set at half the RNI? ·       how fruit and vegetables impact bone health? (Fun question - Are tomatoes high in Vitamin D? Yes – if you ‘gene edit' them!) Listen in to find out all of the above and more! Brach Rauchle has lived in the New River Valley for the past decade performing in groups such as Urth, Chupacabras, Ripejive & Lazy Man Dub Band as well as in horn sections with many different groups. He is principally a guitarist, saxophone player & vocalist & likes to build strange things to hit with his feet & other appendages. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Brach spent most of his musical career in the Los Angeles area prior to his life in Virginia. While on the West coast for about 15 years he performed & recorded with many groups on both guitar and saxophone. His funk / progressive trio, Urth, performed their original music regularly at venues such as the Knitting Factory, the Coconut Teaser & the world-renown jazz/fusion nightclub the Baked Potato while also working as the rhythm section of a jazz quartet, performing at many weddings, casuals & various events where he wouldn't normally be allowed to loiter like the Johnathon Club in downtown LA. During his college years Brach began to develop his multi-instrumental approach which led to the formation of the band Urth in it's original trio format in which he played guitar & bass simultaneously on a self modified 7-string guitar while also incorporating his first instrument, the alto saxophone. By building an elevated stand out of some drum stand, guitar stand & sax stand parts, he was able to play the sax along with the 7-string. Some years later, he would ultimately build the world's craziest solo rig in the pursuit of true spontaneous improvisation of form. It was very very heavy... and big. Nowadays Brach is loving playing music with his beautiful brothers and sisters in Chupacabras, Lazy Man Dub Band & Ripejive as well as enjoying working with and getting to hear the music of so many other fantastic musicians in the NRV area, all while carrying as little gear as possible whenever he possibly can.

As the time to move into our new building draws near, we are struck by how much God has provided thus far, and by the need we still have. This sermon looks specifically at how God equipped the Israelites to be able to give towards the construction of the Tabernacle and our belief that God does the same in the New Testament Church. Even more than that, this sermon examines how as Christ followers we are compelled to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and that the new ministry center will allow us to better serve the NRV.
