The Good Counsel vs. DeMatha high school football rivalry is one of the most storied matchups in the country. Both programs boast a rich tradition of excellence, producing elite talent that often transitions to college and NFL success. DeMatha, with its decades of dominance under legendary coach Bill McGregor, set the standard for high school football with its physicality and deep rosters. Good Counsel emerged as a formidable rival in the 2000s, particularly under coach Bob Milloy, building a powerhouse program that could challenge DeMatha's reign. Their annual clash is marked by intense competition, dramatic finishes, and passionate fanbases, often with championship implications on the line. Beyond the scoreboard, this rivalry represents the pride and prestige of two schools that have defined high school football on a national level.

I have known Coach for a long time -- going back to my early teaching days at Mater Dei School and his son Joey -- who now is employed by dad to help with the digital/social media infrastructure of MOM Universe! After a robustly successful career in finance -- including leading New York Life's DC branch (the second largest of NYL in the country), Joe was traded for Coach when he decided to start MOM at the beginning of this year. Since, MOM has taken off like wildfire -- with over-night success at St. John's and DeMatha -- and the horizon could not look any brighter. Successful people do the little things better than everyone else because they know all the big things arise from them. The highest performers in all walks of life have taken full ownership. They got to where they are and have stayed there because they have chosen to establish, tweak and repeat positive habits. They understand that you can't be selective when it comes to excellence, that how we do anything is how we do everything.Sustain Your Game teaches you how to bring your A game to every area of your life. James Robinson graduated from the illustrious DeMatha high school as the winningest player in program history before embarking on a career at Pittsburgh that saw him graduate as the ACC all-time leader in assist-to-turnover ratio, while scoring over 1,100 points and dishing out over 600 assists. He then embarked on a six-year professional basketball career before transitioning into coaching as an assistant at the University of Delaware. We sat down with James and spoke about how all of these experiences prepared him to be a coach, and what the last few months have been like for him as he has transitioned on campus at the University of Delaware.
The official visit period is over for the summer in college football recruiting, which means that most players will make their decisions in the coming month. Host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr, breaks down what we know and don't know heading into July. Then, he uses that information to build a mock class. He starts with the news on Wednesday that sets some projections on edge. Four-star safety King Mack from St. Thomas Aquinas in Florida pushed back his commitment decision by a day. The feisty safety will now decide on Thursday at noon. Will Penn State be the pick? T-Frank saves his thoughts on that for later in the show. Finally, he reviews the players that have a prediction for Penn State football or are reportedly secured for the Nittany Lions. Those players are Mack, four-star linebackers Tony Rojas and Ta'Mere Robinson, along with running back Treyaun Webb. From there, he reviews the offensive class and projects how many spots remain on that ball's side. He thinks the Nittany Lions should only take one runner in this cycle. So will it be Webb or Scranton Prep's London Montgomery? At wide receiver, he could see the Nittany Lions taking another player but should they? The team can also add two more offensive linemen. Defensively, he looks at the committed players and sees that the front seven is locked in, save for two positions. The board seems clearly down to one more defensive tackle. Will it be Florida defender Derrick LeBlanc or will DeMatha's Jason Moore be the choice? The secondary situation is messy with the news that high-priority athlete Cam Seldon wants to play offense in college. How does that affect the safety board and the flexibility of the secondary? T-Frank also doesn't see a great fit to add at corner unless the Nittany Lions can land LeBlanc and teammate Ja'Keem Jackson. Finally, he presents the players he thinks will choose Penn State over the next month. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This week we continue celebrating the Heroes and History of Gonzaga Basketball in Episode 17 of the Echo Ever Proudly podcast. Part two of our visit with 5 Gonzaga Basketball Icons: Coaches Dick Myers and Bill Wilson, and legendary players from the class of 1980, John Williams, Marty Favret, and Tom Sluby. On February 1, 1980, Gonzaga became only the third school to ever win a game against DeMatha on their home court on Madison Street in Hyattsville, Md. What was the atmosphere like? What did Coach Bill Wilson say at halftime? Why did Coach Myers get a technical? And just how special was the picture of Tom Sluby in the Washington Star the next day? The answers are in Episode 17. Get set to enjoy a laughed-filled conversation with five guys, who describe what they remember about that one special Friday in February 42 years ago. As Gonzaga celebrates its bicentennial, the great basketball legacy at Gonzaga that we enjoy today, can be traced back to two program game changers: Coach Dick Myers and Tom Sluby '80. As the top-ranked and undefeated Eagles soared over DeMatha 87-73 Tuesday night (01/11/22) those of us watching online couldn't help but appreciate the strong Basketball tradition on Eye Street. And how, what we were watching, would have been hard to imagine when this week's guests arrived at Gonzaga. Legendary Coach Dick Myers, Coach Bill Wilson, along with John Williams, Marty Favret, and Tom Sluby, (all members of the Class of '80) join for part one of a two part visit that covers that pivotal era when the investment that followed Gonzaga's commitment made to stay on Eye Street, started to show dividends. Bill Wilson shares his memories before Father Dooley and Coach Dick Myers arrived. The "Old Gym" stories might seem like scary Grimm fairy tales to today's Gonzaga students and players, but they were very real for those who practiced in the "dungeon" as Wilson describes. Knowing the challenges, John said a big tournament win by Gonzaga when they were in eighth grade played a roll. For Marty and John their brothers had attended, but that wasn't the case for Tom Sluby. Tom credits a special Gonzaga family in his parish for making a big impact on his decision to go to Gonzaga. What was the other sport did Sluby excel at that may have helped him in basketball? And why is he so familiar with the Byrd Stadium stairs? And why did Marty have to be a Monster for 45 seconds against Johnny Dawkins and Mackin? All those answers this week in Episode 16. Don't miss part two of our visit and it's focus on that breakthrough win at DeMatha in 1980. As we celebrate Gonzaga's Bicentennial, the arrival Coach Myers in '75, then Tom Sluby in '76, and the Carmody Center in '77 laid the foundation for the tremendous legacy of excellence Gonzaga Basketball enjoys today. And here's hoping this years Eagles team continues to soar this Bicentennial season! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
