Democracy stands at a crossroads in British Columbia as Michael Mulligan delivers a powerful analysis of the NDP's proposed Tariff Response Act (Bill C-7). Drawing on historical parallels that send shivers down the spine, Mulligan unpacks how this legislation bears troubling similarities to Nazi Germany's 1933 Enabling Act—legislation that effectively rendered their legislature irrelevant and set the stage for catastrophe. The bill's provisions would allow the government to make retroactive amendments to laws, shield officials from judicial review for procurement decisions, and potentially criminalize non-compliance with up to two years imprisonment. Most alarming is how the exclusion of the Offense Act creates a backdoor to criminal prosecution under Section 127 of the Criminal Code—potentially criminalizing actions that weren't illegal when performed. "The response to right-wing populism and erratic behaviour ought not to be a populist, left-wing, arbitrary response," Mulligan warns, as he urges Green Party MLAs who hold the balance of power to consider the weight of history before supporting such a transfer of power. In the second segment, Mulligan discusses a recent Victoria case with significant implications for homeowners and contractors. The court ruled that consumers can cancel construction contracts lacking specific completion dates within 12 months under the BC Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act. When a sunroom company demanded an additional $17,310 and dumped materials "the size of a small car" in a homeowner's driveway after cancellation, the judge ordered a full refund plus damages for trespass. Take note whether you're planning renovations or providing services—completion dates aren't just good business practice; they're legally required. Have you checked your contracts lately?Follow this link for a transcript of the show and links to the cases discussed.
Sometimes, we build things without even realizing it. Other times, we know exactly what we're constructing. Interestingly, we've all built something in our romantic relationships—whether we intended to or not. In today's episode, I focus on the invisible walls we create, both knowingly and unknowingly, that keep us distant from our spouses. Although we may share the same physical space, emotional distance can still grow between us. Join me as we explore the brick walls of love—how small offenses, left unaddressed, can turn into big barriers in our relationships. P.S. The episode I referenced when discussing being overly busy—but couldn't quite recall the full name during recording—is "4 Subtle Things That Can Hurt Your Relationship."

Terrorism and hate symbol offences will now carry a mandatory minimum sentence, with the government supporting the Liberal Coalition's amendments for its support of hate crime laws. It's a position that goes against Labor's party platform, which recognises the practice undermines the judicial system and doesn't reduce crime.

Brenda Power (Irish journalist and Barrister) speaks to Wendy about how Minister for Justice Helen McEntee signed the order to ensure that the Criminal Justice (Hate Offences) Act 2024 has come into force (from Tuesday 31 December 2024). The new legislation provides for increased prison sentences for certain crimes, where proven to be motivated by hatred, or where hatred is demonstrated. However this law introduced in Ireland by the Minister McEntee is recongiszing an unlimited number of genders – meaning the new Criminal Justice (hate offences) Act 2024 is contradicting the Gender Recongition Act of 2015 which states that there are only 2 genders – ‘male and female'. Brenda speaks to Wendy explaining this new law, what it says regarding what gender a person expresses or identifies as, and also confusion on how judges in court are meant to navigate this, if the law is trusting judges to determine which of a multitude of genders for example, a victim is in a case.

Today's show opens with a return to a Friday favorite, Tara Bull's Top 10 News Items the Legacy/mainstream media didn't cover. I really enjoy being able to quickly run through several news stories before hitting my stack of stuff. The first item I dive into after the Top 10 is word that the Biden White House is busy on more pre-emptive pardons for Dr. Anthony Fauci, Sen.-elect Adam “Lying Piece of” Schiff and Liz “Love going to war” Cheney. This led me to pull up Article II, Section 2, Clause 1 of the Constitution. Within that clause is power for reducing sentences and pardoning crimes committed against the United States. In fact, the exact line reads, “[The President]...he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.” This leads me to ask, how can the President provide blanket immunity for unknown or unnamed offenses against the United States? Don't they have to be named? The first DOGE meeting took place and already the unhinged and angry lunatics on the Left are doing all they can to spin it into the worst fearporn they can envision. But, once you understand what is being suggested, all the fear subsides. Even Scott Jennings, CNN, says that's the feedback he is hearing. However, as Rep Tim Burchett (R-TN) notes, it's not a problem finding the fraud, waste and abuse. It's whether or not the Congress will do anything about it? Isn't that always the real question? The number of prison officers sacked for misconduct in UK jails has gone up by more than a third on last year. Offences include sex acts with inmates and other inappropriate behaviour and selling drugs and phones. Plus, one of the brothers of Mohamed Al Fayed, who owned the Harrods department store in London has been accused of sexual assault and trafficking by three women who worked there. And, the UK government wants to merge the country's 86 local government pension schemes into a handful of “pension megafunds” in what is being called the "biggest pension reform in decades.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī instructs that chanting of the holy name of the Lord should be loudly done, and it should be performed offenselessly as well, as recommended in the Padma Purāṇa. One can deliver himself from the effects of all sins by surrendering himself unto the Lord. One can deliver himself from all offenses at the feet of the Lord by taking shelter of His holy name. But one cannot protect himself if one commits an offense at the feet of the holy name of the Lord. Such offenses are mentioned in the Padma Purāṇa as being ten in number. Romans 4:23-25 — In this sermon on Romans 4:23–25 titled “Delivered for Our Offences,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones examines why one cannot take the teachings of Jesus as moral philosophy to improve the world, but instead examine who the person of Jesus is. Jesus did not come into this world to be a moral teacher, but instead came so that the wrath of God could be satisfied in His death so that all could be forgiven. Humanity's biggest problem is not the fears of this world, but the fact that all will soon die and face God. On that day when one dies, how will they stand before God? Dr. Lloyd-Jones reminds that all are guilty of not loving God as they should, and that they can do nothing in themselves to get rid of sin. It is in this truth that one can rightly examine why Jesus came, and that the greatest problem is not the chaos of the world, but the sin inside hearts.
