Richard O'Connor earned a Bronze Star for his heroics on the battlefield one early April day in 1969, a fact that only came to light back home when his mom found the medal in his duffle bag. Dick did not want the attention as he dealt with the lasting emotional scars of service. Dick credits his wife, Patricia, with helping him deal with those scars, beginning with her letters to him in Vietnam through to the present day.

George Layton is prolific - he's done the lot - and he's still working in his early 80s. Both an actor and screenwriter, his career stretches from the early 50s and Children's Hour and working with Violet Carson (who played Ena Sharples in Coronation Street), through years as a star on shows like Doctor in the House and It Aint Half Hot Mum, via cameos on The Likely Lads and semi regular roles in Minder and more. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a 1975 independent musical comedy horror film produced by Lou Adler and Michael White, directed by Jim Sharman, and distributed by 20th Century Fox. The screenplay was written by Sharman and actor Richard O'Brien, who is also a member of the cast. The film is based on the 1973 musical stage production The Rocky Horror Show, with music, book, and lyrics by O'Brien. The production is a tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the 1930s through to the early 1960s. Along with O'Brien, the film stars Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and Barry Bostwick and is narrated by Charles Gray, with cast members from the original Royal Court Theatre, Roxy Theatre, and Belasco Theatre productions, including Nell Campbell and Patricia Quinn.
In the twenty-second episode of Season 10: Dealer's Choice, Kyle is joined for one-on-one conversation with musical stand-up comedian JJ Tyson to discuss the prescient cynicism of Richard O'Brien's loose sequel to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the goofy and critical concept album assessment of America's media obsessions, allegiance to figure heads, and the desperation of fame in Brad and Janet's sliding doors reality of Shock Treatment (1981).

Gerry Conlon spent fourteen years in jail as one of the Guildford Four, following the 1974 IRA Guildford pub bombing. New play In the Name of the Son chronicles the heady aftermath of his wrongful imprisonment. Richard O'Rawe wrote the 2017 book In the Name of the Son: The Gerry Conlon Story, which the play is based on. Himself a former Irish Republican prisoner, O'Rawe was a leading figure in the 1981 Maze prison hunger strike. He and life-long friend Conlon grew up together in Belfast. O'Rawe is the author of several books about the Irish Troubles, including Blanketmen: An Untold Story of the H-Block Hunger Strike. In the Name of the Son is coming to the Auckland Arts Festival in March next year.

Count von Nudo and Schmutt P. Eddler do the time warp back to the musical that started a cult phenomenon exactly 50 years ago - The Rocky Horror (Picture) Show. We celebrate the opening song "Science fiction/Double Feature", which name-checks some of the greatest science fiction and horror films of the 1930s, 40s, 50s and 60s. We have been able to include six of the 11 films mentioned in this theme week. The other five, such as King Kong (1933) and The Invisible Man (1933) belong to big Hollywood studios, making it more difficult for us to get the rights to show them (but we will keep trying). Tony Sokol over at DenofGeek.com has a great overview of each song and film reference, from which we have stolen, sorry, quoted extensively. Do read his original article for more context and in-depth insights. It is remarkable how well Richard O'Brien knew his B-movies, given that there was no Internet or IMDb back in the days, but that is a sign of true geek fandom. Respect! The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) - “Michael Rennie was ill the day the Earth stood still, but he told us where we stand.” A science fiction film with a message for earth to get its s#!t together, by the great director Robert Wise. “Klaatu barada nikto”.Flash Gordon (1936) - “And Flash Gordon was there in silver underwear”. An episodic cinema serial with Buster Crabbe fighting Ming the Merciless. Familiar from television re-runs and of course the more famous 1980 re-make. It Came From Outer Space (1953) - “Then at a deadly pace it came from outer space.” An alien spaceship crash lands in the Arizona desert and people start acting strange. More Cold War paranoia, by director Jack Warner. Originally in 3D but shown here in boring 2D. Doctor X (1932) - “Dr X will build a creature.” Doctor Xavier doesn't actually build a creature (Frank N Further does tho), in this pre-code color film by Michael Curtiz, who later directed Bogart again in Casablanca (1942). “See androids fightingBrad and JanetAnne Francis stars inForbidden Planet…”Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-ohAt the late nightDouble Feature picture show”The Day of the Triffids (1963) - “And I really got hot when I saw Janette Scott fight a Triffid that spits poison and kills.” Or as Tony Sokol put it, "Vegetarians eat vegetables. Humanitarians, like Doctor X, eat humans. Triffids are vegetables that eat humans, vegetarian or not." So don't look up at meteor showers, or you'll wake up all "28 Days Later." Freddie Francis co-directs. Curse of the Demon aka Night of the Demon (1957) - “Dana Andrews said prunes, gave him the runes, and passing them used lots of skills.” Jacques Tourneur, of Cat People (1942) and I Walked with a Zombie (1943) fame, directs this British demonic chiller. Richard O' Rawe's new book "Stakeknife's Dirty War: The Inside Story of Scappaticci, the IRA's Nutting Squad and the British Spooks Who Ran the War" offers the most comprehensive and in-depth look into the life and crimes of Freddie Scappaticci, better known as agent "Stakenife".I spoke to Richard about Scap's rise through the ranks in the IRA, how he once would have seemed the least-likely of republican men to be an informer and how the internal security unit aka "the nutting squad" was ran with Stakeknife at it's helm. Richard tells us about the putting-together of such a detailed book and the many rumors that surround Freddie Scappaticci.Richard also shared his insight into what former-IRA men think about the accusations of informing leveled against Martin McGuinness, whether Scappaticci was the only spy in the ISU and if the upper-echelons of British govt knew about Stakeknife and his activities. **PLEASE SUBSCRIBE & LEAVE A REVIEW TO HELP THE SHOW CONTINUE TO GROW**TIMESTAMPS00:00 Putting together the book & who was Freddie Scappaticci06:05 When Scappaticci and Ricky joined the IRA & Scappaticci's rise through the ranks 09:45 Scappaticci once looked very unlikely to have been an informer/agent 11:05 Difference between an agent and an informer 12:50 WHO WERE “THE NUTTING SQUAD” ??18:05 Michael Kearney's m*rder 19:40 WAS SCAP THE ONLY AGENT/INFORMER WITHIN THE NUTTING SQUAD?22:05 British Intel sacrificing lesser-informers to protect a higher-up agent25:20 HOW FAR UP DID KNOWLEDGE OF STAKENIFE GO ?26:55 Was Steaknife the UK government's highest-ranking informant?35:15 Was Scap rich by the end?37:50 Scap's mental health and p*rn-habit? 50:10 How was Steaknife recruited by the British Govt ?53:30 Torture by the ISU 55:00 Motivations for writing the book 1:08:55 IS SCAP REALLY DEAD? & thoughts on Operation KenovaGOOD LISTENER PODCAST YOUTUBE CHANNEL: https://www.youtube.com/@thegoodlistenerpodcastBUY THE BOOK: https://amzn.to/46lOmoG

It's astounding — time is fleeting: It's 50 years since ‘The Rocky Horror Show' debuted on a cramped London stage and launched a phenomenon. Composer and star Richard O'Brien joins Seth to retrace every step.
Big Dick, in the middle of our goal, Big Dick... Another goalkeeper. Another unique goalkeeping story. Richard O'Donnell sits down with GKU to recall a career with the type of twists and turns we've not heard from a previously featured guest. From almost falling out of the game a year after his release from Sheffield Wednesday, to bouncing back with Walsall and then opting to join Wigan - a move which catalysed a series of new contracts with new clubs in a matter of just a few years - he tells his tale in an honest and reflective fashion. As chilled as "down to Earth" guys go (quote: Steve Cotterill) Rich is right up there. Now 34 and off the back of yet another Player of the Year campaign, the next challenge awaits.
This week we're joined by Dr. Oliver Kinnane and Dr. Richard O'Hegarty of University College Dublin to discuss their recently published paper: A whole life carbon analysis of the Irish residential sector - past, present and future. In some ways it's quite a technical episode, delving into calculation methodology, but one tempered by lots of meandering diversions. The pair are academics who both occupy positions in the rarefied world of academia and can hold their own space at the coal face of the built environment, and this is one part of a body of work that is focused on unpicking the sort of detail that the industry really needs. Their paper looks into carbon consumption in the residential sector, from both an operational and embodied perspective, forecasting results in line with Ireland's national development plan and climate action plan using a methodology that accounts for consumption, not just production. In this episode I had the pleasure of speaking with retired NY state tax assessor, Richard O'Donnell, from O'Donnell & Cullen Property Tax Consultants. Most consumers aren't educated on what may happen to their taxes when buying real estate. Rich answers questions on what to expect after purchasing a home, and how you can prepare before starting the home buying process. He also can help if you already own your home by potentially grieving your taxes. This was a great session and everyone walked away learning something... Hopefully you feel the same! Enjoy!

We have a guest today that has been on our show before. He is the Concept Coordinator Union Lodge No. 1, was in the first Garnish Games, works for Liquid Productions (who assist with Tales of the Cocktail) and is a master of craft cocktology. When we recorded with him last time we focused on what he did at Union Lodge No. 1, this time we're going to focus on one of his other accomplishments, culinary school and how being a chef actually helps with craft cocktails. APPETIZER: Johnson & Wales University-Denver (4.3), Aurora, CO 2 Stars, Google 5 years ago Beautiful campus and mostly good professors. But way too expensive for what you're getting. The only reason It's getting 2 stars is because of the professors that I personally had. The classrooms were small and personal so the teachers actually knew your name and cared about your success. Other than that, you're bored most of the time and the dorms feel like a high school boarding school. Food was questionable most of the time despite it being a culinary arts school...? Don't go unless you have money to spend and close social connections. Left after one year and don't ever care to look back. Worst social experience I've ever had. Behind Bars with Bill: Garnishes (specifically blue cheese stuffed olives) https://punchdrink.com/articles/dirty-martini-blue-cheese-stuffed-olive/ Main Course: The Bocuse Restaurant (4.6), Hyde Park, NY 3 Stars, Google 4 years ago I was very excited to try out the Bocuse as I was looking to impress some business guests and had never myself been to a French restaurant that I can recollect. The dishes are very pretty looking but for the most part (what I ordered) I felt was u derwhelming. Service was slow and choppy as can be expected when you are dealing with students so no points deducted there. Everyone was very friendly. My issue was with the food. There are many restaurants in the Hudson Valley that I feel have much more to offer at least for my personal tastes. The black truffle soup I felt was too thin although the puff pastry on top was good. The charcuterie was decent but not top notch. As far as the apps go the risotto was where it was at. I had the beef dinner which was prepare nicely and tasted good but nothing to write home about. The molten lava cake was over cooked and not “molten” at all. Honestly for the price it was worth a try but I don't believe that I would go out of my way to come back again. With that said some of my guests were very happy and would definitely come back so just like many other things it all comes down to the person. Hope this review helps!
