The Journey Podcast 156Richard Kerr: Government-Protected Child Abuse in BelfastAlso with Father Sean McManus and Author Chris MooreAt TrineDay.com and the usual podcast platforms.Publisher Kris Millegan speaks with Richard Kerr, Father Sean McManus (of the IrishNationalCaucus.org), and Chris Moore (author of THE KINCORA SCANDAL: Political Cover-Up and Intrigue in Ulster) to discuss the sex scandal in Ireland that went far beyond the Kincora Boys' Home in east Belfast, where dozens of boys were abused over three decades. (Children were abused in government operations, and the British government continues to cover it up.)“Richard Kerr was five years old when he was sent to Williamson House (ages 5-14) on Christmas night 1966. Then he was transferred to Kincora House (ages 14-18).“Richard's abuse started at the age of 5 at the hands of house managers. He was spirited out of Belfast to the US by his handlers in May 1979 (aged 17-18) via London … to ensure he was not available to answer questions in the developing police inquiries around the sex scandal known as Kincora. [Richard: “The American who helped with [my] immigration was Roy Cohn.”]“Most of Richard's abuse was arranged by house managers in hotels and safe houses outside of Kincora. He was pimped out to businessmen, lawyers, politicians, doctors. These clients were then blackmailed into providing intelligence during the war in Northern Ireland. Most of the other kids in these homes were abused internally by the house managers.”Richard knew many victims who committed suicide.Father Sean McManus is the founder and president of the IrishNationalCaucus.org. “McManus became Britain's nemesis in America, the driving force that would eventually erode Britain's influence within the U.S. Government.” (American Policy and Northern Ireland: A Saga of Peacebuilding, Professor Joseph E. This was to ensure he was not available to answer questions in the developing police inquiries around the sex scandal known as Kincora. [Richard: “To shut me up, I was sent to the United States. The American who helped with the immigration was Roy Cohn.”]“The sex scandal was far broader than one foster home. Most of the other kids in these homes were abused internally by the house managers.“Richard started a high court action in 2015 which has been stalled many times by the state. He is suing the police, Secretary of State, Department of Health, and the State Department in Northern Ireland, alleging that the police failed to investigate the abuse because the children were knowingly used as bait in an intelligence gathering sex honey trap.”

Join us on a journey through the intricate labyrinth of oil market dynamics in a post-COVID world, with our guest, the esteemed historian Ellen Wald. With her deep-rooted insights into the history of oil companies' operations in the Middle East, we dissect the current supply and demand scenario, elucidating Saudi Arabia's decision to prolong their voluntary oil production cut. We'll also scrutinize the likelihood of a supply crunch in the coming seasons and the illuminations it may cast on China's recovery. We take a turn into the realm of critical minerals, rare earths, and turbids, with China's dominance over their supply chain as our central plot. Uncover the layers of environmental and human rights violations linked to mining these minerals as we explore alternative sources and potential partnerships that may tilt the balance in favor of American interests. Be prepared for a revelation on South America's vast lithium and cobalt resources and the urgent need for stronger alliances in our neighborhood. Ending our discourse on a note of introspection, we scrutinize the impact of American policies on the supply of critical minerals and oil. The implications of tax incentives for buying cars powered by rare earths and other materials unavailable in the US come under our lens. As we consider the possible repercussions of an electric vehicle world heavily reliant on Chinese imports for rare earths, we look at how supply chain disruptions can have far-reaching impacts on everyday citizens. How should we understand contemporary migration policy? In Radical Hospitality: American Policy, Media, and Immigration (Rutgers UP, 2022), Nour Halabi, an Interdisciplinary Fellow at the University of Aberdeen, explores this question by blending history, media studies, and a range of critical theory to introduce the idea of radical hospitality. Using detailed historical and contemporary case studies- from the 1880s and the Chinese Exclusion Act, through the 1920s and the National Origins Act, up to the 2000s and the Muslim travel ban- the book offers both a rethink of the history of immigration as well as a radical call for a new approach. Dive into an enlightening 30-minute journey as we unearth the paradigm shift in Portugal's drug policy - a revolution that radically challenged global drug norms over two decades ago. In a world grappling with the adverse effects of drug prohibition, Portugal courageously paved a new path, decriminalizing all drugs and pivoting to a public health approach. In this deep-dive episode, we uncover the layers of Portugal's innovative strategy. From its commitment to harm reduction to its groundbreaking shift away from criminal punishment, we assess the real-world outcomes of such an approach. Has drug decriminalization led to rampant drug use, or has it produced a decline in drug-related deaths and HIV rates? How have Portugal's bold measures influenced its social fabric and public health outcomes? We further explore the often contentious yet vital subjects of safer supply, involuntary treatment, and drug legalization - topics making waves in North America's current policy debates. Safer supply initiatives are being implemented in various jurisdictions, providing regulated and less harmful substances as an alternative to dangerous street drugs. Involuntary drug treatment programs, which compel individuals into treatment against their will, are a controversial strategy being contemplated by several jurisdictions. And then there's the ultimate frontier - drug legalization, a step further from Portugal's decriminalization model and an option being seriously considered in some North American regions. Join us as we reflect on the lessons from Portugal's pioneering journey and discuss their potential application in the North American context. Our mission? To foster an informed dialogue that could shape the future of drug policy across continents. Let's challenge the status quo together. Across America, there are approximately 18.3 million children who live without a father in the home, comprising about 1 in 4 US children (Father Absence Statistics). The United States has the highest rate of children living in single-parent households of any nation in the world, according to the American Policy institute. For Chad Smith: “People have often asked Why did you start Battle Warrior Brands? Let me break this down to the simplest way possible by pictures of my past. A person who had his father leave during his teenage years. Someone who buried his trauma in substance abuse and false sense of life. A kid that literally was months away from getting his boat repoed by the bank and spent 3/4 of his student loans on alcohol and flashy toys. It took 33 years, a divorce, 23 years of addictions to finally wake up and own my life. You see this brand was not established because I want to own a “brand”. This "brand" was created because I was there, ran the miles, and lived it. Life chewed me up and spit me out like another statistic. I am sick of watching people do the same. So why I created Battle Warrior Brands?? I created Battle Warrior Brands based off of the mindset. The mindset of a warrior that went through the battle, and striving for a better life. A mindset that requires the best physical, mental, and spiritual shape. Am I the best “gym shape” person out there? Nope, but I challenge myself everyday. The next run, the next race, the next struggle, most important the next day. Its all about learning YOU ARE MORE! I want all of you to feel this same feeling of free by wearing the best apparel, and listening to the best information around. We create a culture of warriors that conquer a better mental, physical, spiritual battles with the battle warrior mindset. That my friend is true freedom! The freedom to create, lead, and change the culture. YOU ARE MORE! He joined me this week to tell me more. Since 2021, Democrats have controlled the House, the Senate and the presidency, and they've used that power to pass consequential legislation, from the American Rescue Plan to the Inflation Reduction Act. That state of affairs was exceptional: In the 50 years between 1970 and 2020, the U.S. House, Senate and presidency were only under unified party control for 14 years. Divided government has become the norm in American politics. And since Republicans won back the House in November, it is about to become the reality once again. But that doesn't mean policymaking is going to stop — far from it. As America's national politics have become more and more gridlocked in recent decades, many consequential policy decisions have been increasingly pushed down to the state level. The ability to receive a legal abortion or use recreational marijuana; how easy it is to join a union, purchase a firearm or vote in elections; the tax rates we pay and the kind of health insurance we have access to: These decisions are being determined at the state level to an extent not seen since before the civil rights revolution of the mid-twentieth century.Jake Grumbach is a political scientist at the University of Washington and the author of the book “Laboratories Against Democracy: How National Parties Transformed State Politics.” In it, Grumbach tracks this shift in policymaking to the states and explores its implications for American politics. Our national mythologies present state government as less polarizing, more accountable to voters and a hedge against anti-democratic forces amassing too much power. But, as Grumbach shows, in an era of national political media, parties and identities, the truth is a lot more complicated. So this conversation is a guide to the level of government that we tend to pay the least attention to, even as it shapes our lives more than any other.Mentioned:Dynamic Democracy by Devin Caughey and Christopher Warshaw“Does money have a conservative bias? It had been billed as a "red wave," and even a "red tsunami." But early on after the big day, it looks like those predictions were quite exaggerated. Host of the Public Square and longtime American Policy expert Dave Zanotti returns to discuss what happened, and what to expect from here. Dave is the president of the American Policy Roundtable, and "The Public Square" is heard on the Shepherd network.
In this edition of Wilson Center NOW, we are joined by Benjamin Gedan, Acting Director of the Wilson Center's Latin American Program and the Director of its Argentina Project. He discusses current U.S. policy approaches to Latin America and what shifts have occurred under the Biden administration. Gedan also highlights how global competition with China has affected U.S. political and economic focus on the region.

His 42 years of experience in American policy, and his own personal study of both the Bible and the American Constitution all come together in any conversation with Dave Zanotti. Add to the fact that he is a lover of the arts including classic wholesome films, Christian music, and a host of other interests, there is never a dull moment when he is on Mike's show. In this episode, Dave uncovers some of the lefts favorite secret agendas, and the threat that these plans holds for us all.
The much anticipated ruling in the Dobbs vs. Jackson case brought about an overturning of Roe vs. Wade, the 1973 decision that authorized abortion protection from the federal government. In this ruling, our Supreme Court did a rarity - an admission that Roe, a 1973 decision, was faulty from the start, and now the subject of abortion shifts to the control of each individual state and their laws. Many states are already positioned to make most abortions illegal. Commenting on this is Dave Zanotti, American Policy expert who shares some important cautions to us all. Also, from "Choose Life Radio Network", Jill Taylor adds her thoughts and opinions. Finally, the president and director of Choices Women's Clinics in Orlando, Vicky Mathews, talks about this much prayed-for end to federal protection for abortions.

Many would believe that Walt Disney would be shocked at the current statements coming out of Disney, both in California and here in Florida. Dave Zanotti believes that these statements, offensive and surprising to so many, are not merely one-offs by a handful of people inside Disney. In a program that hits us in Florida close to home, Dave's thoughts are eye-opening stingers that we all need to hear.
This episode will cover how the Senate can influence foreign policy in the face of new threats and increasing executive power, and what an NSA for a Senator sees as the biggest future threats to American security and power. Interviewer: Christopher Libero Interviewee: Thomas Mancinelli
As strange as it seems, the recent question posed by Sen. Marsha Blackburn to Judge Jackson, the Biden nominee for the Supreme Court was left unanswered. Not that it was a difficult question, "Can you provide a definition for the word woman." She couldn't, or wouldn't. This odd answer is analyzed and discussed in this episode...and Dave's insights into the back story is like a wake up call early on a cold morning.
In this episode, Dr. Nolte shares a message about deterrence. He reminds American policymakers that taking things off the table doesn't deter harmful acts. We can only prevent bad actors from doing bad things when they are scared of us, and right now, they just aren't.

Our listeners can always count on Dave Zanotti to bring a riveting analysis on American policy events, and today's episode does not disappoint. Saying that the president started the address sounding like "John Wayne" but ending sounding like Putin", Dave didn't hold back on his thoughts, all of which are consistent with looking at news through the lens of a biblical worldview. You will enjoy this recording.

From 1950 to 1953 America went to war in what has often been called "The Forgotten War" in Korea. It was one of the first real tests of the Cold War between the United States and the Communist World and it happened due to an oversight. When Secretary of State Dean Acheson forgot to include the Korean Peninsula in his a speech about American Policy in Asia, and who we would and would not protect in the region. It led to an enormous miscalculation from Kin IIl Sung and the powers that be in the Communist World. They tried to take over South Korea. They waged an aggressive campaign that pushed the United Nations troops back to a small corner of South Korea to the port of Pusan. It was then that General Douglas MacArthur came up with a strategy that is arguably the boldest move ever in the history of Warfare. He "hit' em where they ain't" an ran an amphibious assault on the Port of Inchon 150 miles behind enemy lines and then routed them back to the Yalu River on the Chinese border. In this first episode we look at all his success before the Chinese entered the war and set the stage for the clash with President Truman about who really is in charge of foreign policy during war time, the General in the field or the President of the United States.
David Pettinicchio has written Politics of Empowerment: Disability Rights and the Cycle of American Policy Reform (Stanford University Press, 2019). He is assistant professor of sociology at the University of Toronto. In Politics of Empowerment, David Pettinicchio offers a history of the political development of disability rights in the United States. Since the 1920s, policy makers have framed and re-framed the obligations of the federal government to those with disabilities. Over time, disability rights emerged, establishing a set of guarantees for public accommodations. At the same time, disability policies were challenged as too expensive and unfeasible, a new threat to the disability community. Pettinicchio follows these ebbs and flows by integrating sociological and political science theories on policy change, social movements, and interest groups. Learn more about your ad choices. Last week, the "skinny" repeal of the Affordable Care Act died a buzzer-beating (and perhaps temporary) death on the Senate floor. The Ringer's Bryan Curtis notes that, "Minus the life-and-death part, it had the feel of an unexpectedly competitive Pac-12 football game that the country noticed in installments."Support the show: http://www.wnpr.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
