Our guest Colonel Douglas MacGregor is a retired US Army colonel. He has had a distinguished military career having held important operational roles during the Gulf War and was a top strategic planner for General Wesley Clark as NATO's commander during the invasion of Yugoslavia. More recently Col. Macgregor has been the president and CEO of The National Conversation -- a non profit organization for "the politically homeless" with a mission to restore civic dialogue in America that challenges the duopoly ruling Washington and hopefully to lead to a new and viable political party.   Since retiring Col Macgregor has been an author, consultant and media commentator who appears regularly on Judge Napolitano's Judging Freedom and Dialogue Works.  Colonel MacGregor has written several books on military strategy and the history of warfare. He is a graduate of US military academy at West Point and later received a doctorate in international relations from the University of Virginia. Ozempic, a once little-known diabetes medication, has dominated health news this week as its widespread use for weight loss continues to reshape conversations and access in the United States. Most recently, major headlines have focused on Costco's move to make Ozempic and its cousin Wegovy available to members at a significant discount. According to CBS News, as of this week, Costco, in partnership with drugmaker Novo Nordisk, is now selling a one-month supply of Ozempic or Wegovy for four hundred ninety nine dollars, which is about half the typical out-of-pocket cost for many. To purchase either medication, a valid prescription remains necessary. This partnership signals not just mainstream acceptance but also an effort to address steep costs and offer greater accessibility for adults seeking weight loss options.The surge in demand for Ozempic and similar drugs stems from their unique biological mechanism. These medications, known as GLP-1 agonists, reduce blood sugar levels and slow digestion, which leads to increased feelings of fullness and decreases appetite. Americans plan their vacations in more painstaking detail than they plan for aging, even though the aging stage of life lasts much longer, said Peter Ross, CEO of Senior Helpers. After meeting Richard Wexler, host of the podcast Caring in America about a year and a half ago, they decided to launch a nonprofit foundation to help Americans plan their aging journeys and be proactive. The result is APlan2Age.org. Unlike other sites that provide resources, APlan2Age is noncommercial and does not seek to profit off the site, Ross said, noting that Senior Helpers is an advisory council member. He encourages other home care firms to reach out and help support the site. One of the site's signature aspects is a care plan that visitors can fill out and modify over time. Ross noted that the purpose of APlan2Age is to try to prepare for the aging process as a way to head off a catastrophic life event. Families, for example, might talk about installing grab bars in loved ones' showers to help prevent falls. Wexler learned about the importance of planning the hard way — when he and his wife were thrust into caregiving roles for their parents in their 80s. One of the big reasons to prepare for aging is to take pressure off family caregivers who shoulder most of the burden of caring for aging family members, Ross said.
