Christmas is the most magical time of the year and, as it happens, it's also one of the most paranormal… Christmas marks the winter solstice, the darkest day of the year when the veil between the world of the living and the dead is most thin. This is why for hundreds of years people gathered around the yule log to share ghost stories on Christmas Eve. One of the most shocking and believable tales is that of the Brown Lady of Raynham hall, set at Christmas time. Time for Kit and Rory to investigate.Merry Christmas everyone!Follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTubeJoin our Secret Society Facebook CommunitySupport us on Patreon.com/ThisParanormalLife to get access to weekly bonus episodes!Buy Official TPL Merch! - thisparanormallife.com/storeIntro music by www.purple-planet.comEdited by Philip ShackladyResearch by Ewen Friers Hosted on Acast. Jerry & Tracy discuss Norfolk, England's Brown Lady of Raynham Hall.
Donna covers the legend of the Brown Lady of Raynham Hall in England. In life, Dorothy aka the Brown Lady, was rumored to have been tortured by her husband and that might be why her spirit still roams the halls and stairs of Raynham Hall. There's a famous photograph that captured her spirit, but others believe it is a fake. Kerri covers a story where the body of Rhonda Smith was found at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Initially, authorities considered suicide, but the evidence pointed in a different direction. Enter Mary Jane Fonder, a woman with a troubled past who had a run-in with the law in the past, having threatened someone with a gun. Although Mary Jane Fonder claimed to have disposed of the weapon in a lake in 1994, it was never found. As the pieces started to fall into place, Mary Jane became the prime suspect. However, the story takes many twists and turns. If you have any local true crime, local urban legend/lore, ghost stories.. we want them all!! We want to hear from YOU. In 1936, a photo was taken of the supposed Brown Lady that would go on to become one of the most famous paranormal photos ever taken. But who is the Brown Lady? Most believe that she is the ghost of Dolores Walpole, who either died at the hands of her cruel husband or of a natural illness. Join us as we try and uncover true history of Dorothy and trace the sightings of her through the centuries.

Hey there friends and weirdos! This week, we investigate the haunted history of the infamous Raynham Hall in England! How did this mansion of British highfalutin politicians and their intermingling families create a volatile location for ghosts and spirits? Is this era of ghost stories the result of the rise of Gothic literature, or is the Brown Lady ghost really the result of painful, lost love? We discuss all this and much more!
Find Weird Darkness wherever you listen to podcasts: https://linktr.ee/weirddarkness IN THIS EPISODE: For some people, living in a haunted house is a dream come true; for others it's a nightmare. Real haunted house stories are not as rare as one might think - and they are often so creepy, even skeptics can acknowledge that something strange is going on. Episode Description: On this exciting episode of Duchess, Emma meets the custodian of one of Britain's greatest stately homes: The Marchioness Townshend of Raynham Hall. In this episode, we learn about the fascinating story of how the city of Sydney was named after a Townshend. The Duchess hears how Lord ‘Turnip' Townshend ushered in an agricultural revolution at Raynham, and we are given the full story behind the world's best known ghost photograph! Top Quotes: “You can not dictate the future of a home. All you can do is love it and look after it now.” - Lady Townshend “Traditionally, these houses would have had recitals for every group of people that they had visiting. Music is in the DNA of grand homes.” - The Duchess of Rutland About the Guest and Stately Home: Raynham Hall is a country house located in the glorious countryside of Norfolk. For nearly 400 years it has been the seat of the Townshend family. Born Alison Combs, Lady Townshend is the current custodian of Raynham with her husband Charles Townshend, 8th Marquess Townshend. The couple share four children. Lady Townshend was the editor of The North Norfolk Informer which she co-founded. Work started on Raynham Hall in 1619 commissioned by Sir Roger Townshend and is considered "one of the outstanding country houses of the period.“ Architecturally, Raynham is a neo-classical house and features a particularly striking marble hall - where classical concerts are held. Raynham Hall is the site for perhaps the most famous ghost of all time, taken by photographers for Country Life - the photo of the famous ‘Brown Lady' descending the staircase. About the Host: Emma Rutland, The Duchess of Rutland, did not always stride the halls of stately homes. Born Emma Watkins, the Duchess grew up the daughter of a Quaker farmer, in the Welsh marsh countryside. She trained as an opera singer in the Guildhall School of Music, and worked as a successful interior designer before meeting her future husband David Manners, the 11th Duke of Rutland, at a dinner party. Their marriage in 1992 would transform Emma Watkins into the 11th Duchess of Rutland, thrusting her into the world of aristocracy, and handing her the responsibility of one of the nation's great treasures: Belvoir Castle. While simultaneously running the day to day operations of the castle, and raising five children, The Duchess became fascinated with the history and importance of the other stately homes of the UK. Join The Duchess as she embarks on a wonderful journey through time, to learn more about the incredible homes that have defined Great Britain and, most importantly, meet the other extraordinary women who work tirelessly behind their doors to preserve their history and magic for future generations. Do all of these ancient eyewitness accounts have a natural explanation, or could we be seeing reports of extraterrestrial visitations in centuries past? (Flying Saucers In The Clouds) *** A U.S. Air-Force chaplain is called to duty not against a human enemy – but a spiritual one. (Air Force Exorcist) *** According to oral tradition, a pair of witches came up from the underworld bringing the Native American Zuni people two gifts… and one of those gifts was death. (Zuni Witchcraft) *** According to the song, silence is golden. And it really can be; there are plenty of times when we just want to shut everything out and relax in peace and quiet. But silence isn't always all it's cracked up to be, either, and too much silence can drive you mad. It all starts with being able to hear your own organs working, and after about 45 minutes, you'll start to hallucinate. Silence—and other types of sensory deprivation—can do some weird things to the body and mind… and to the planet. Real haunted house stories are not as rare as one might think - and they are often so creepy, even skeptics can acknowledge that something strange is going on. As for anyone who can say they lived in a haunted house, the idea that ghosts or poltergeists are real is not all that hard to swallow. *** [Stories from the 3/29/2021 podcast.]SOURCES AND ESSENTIAL WEB LINKS…“Real Life Haunted Houses” by Jerry Greenfield for Ranker's Graveyard Shift: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/e4e6bsev*** PHOTO of Ghost Room at Ballygally Castle: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/5bysus82 *** PHOTO of the Brown Lady at Raynham Hall: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/e2e7p678 *** EPISODE of “The Disturbing Case of the Bell Witch”: https://weirddarkness.com/archives/8953 “Redditor Haunts” by Michael Gibson for Ranker's Graveyard Shift: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/3yhhfn8m Weird Darkness theme by Alibi Music Library.
