Internationally known spiritual teacher, Mary Electra, “Tonal Alchemist” is a master of enhancing the intention of the healing process, individually and globally. Mary works on many dimensional levels, using techniques such as toning, breath-work, and spiritual counseling with the Tarot as ancient healing vibrations manifest through her. She is inspired by the spiritual vibrations of many master's i.e., Mary Magdalena, the Christ Consciousness, Sai Baba, Baba Ji, Mother Mary, and Jesus, as well as other inter-dimensional beings to open portals and ignite the higher dimensional “self” within. This is where we consciously connect to “source” opening us to our unlimited potential. As sound is one of the most powerful healing modalities, and in our world today one of the “most needed” healing modalities, she has been inspired to produce “intentional healing CD's” collaborating with other musicians to create three simply magnificent works of sound healing; “Ancient Sounds in Paradise”, “Homecoming to Spirit” and “Breathe Peace”. I have a fundamental question for you – what is life? For something seemingly so basic, it is quite hard to define. I spoke with Carl on our podcast, AMSEcast, and, among other indicators of life, he raised one that was a bit surprising – life is defined, in part, by decision making, and not just for us creatures who have brains.

Our hosts Julie Flakstad & Dr. Taz Bhatia, welcome Gabby Reece - volleyball legend, inspirational health and fitness leader, podcast host, corporate speaker, New York Times bestselling author, wife, and mother. In this conversation, Gabby shares her own personal experience navigating midlife and her perspective and advice on fostering a positive mindset, prioritizing self-care + the power of taking personal inventory. Together we discuss why it's "never too late" for anything; new pursuits, fitness, relationships and instead how to lean into curiosity and play with flexibility and grace. Here are some key themes + takeaways …Midlife + Adolescence: similar to adolescence, we can either buy into what society tells us that we should be thinking and feeling in midlife, or we can avoid the noise and take charge of what we can control. We're not invisible, it's simply nature: at the end of the day, humans are animals. As we reach midlife, we're not emitting signals to make people look at us, because we're NOT having babies anymore. That doesn't mean we're invisible. Midlife is nature's way of freeing us up, so we can move on and add value in different ways.Preserve your inner ‘girl': as we age, remember to have fun, not just on Saturday nights but also on everyday afternoons. In this fascinating interview, James Thornton, founder and CEO of ClientEarth, discusses his latest book Nature, My Teacher, offering a unique perspective on the intersections of law, nature, and spirituality. Reflecting on his decades-long career as an environmental lawyer, Thornton shares how his work to protect the environment has been shaped by his deep reverence for nature and his experiences as a Zen Buddhist priest. The book delves into his personal philosophy and the lessons he's learned from nature, which continue to inspire his work in environmental advocacy.Thornton reflects on his journey with ClientEarth, an environmental law charity that has made significant strides in using the law to hold corporations and governments accountable for environmental harm. His experiences span across continents, from the United States to Europe and China, where he has helped shape legal systems that protect the planet. One notable highlight in the interview is Thornton's experience in China, where he has been working to help develop laws that empower citizens to hold polluters, including government-owned entities, accountable. This groundbreaking work aligns with China's ambition to build an "ecological civilization," an effort enshrined in its constitution and reflected in transformative advancements in green technology.Throughout the conversation, Thornton weaves together the themes of his book with his practical experience in environmental law, illustrating how his spiritual beliefs, legal expertise, and deep connection to nature converge to guide his approach to sustainability. Nature, My Teacher serves as both a reflection on Thornton's remarkable career and an urgent call to reconnect with the natural world, offering readers a hopeful yet pragmatic roadmap for tackling the climate crisis.James Thornton is the founding CEO of ClientEarth, a path-breaking law firm which uses advocacy, litigation and research to address the greatest challenges of our time – including nature loss and climate change. ClientEearth has an extra-ordinary record of success built on solid law and science – and has brought about fundamental change in the way environmental protections are made and enforced across Europe. The New Statesman has named James as one of 10 people who could change the world. James has twice won Leader of the Year at the Business Green Awards. The Financial Times awarded him its Special Achievement accolade at the FT Innovative Lawyers Awards. James is an ordained Zen Buddhist priest; his latest book Nature, My Teacher: How to Be Alive in a World under Threat was published in April.

In April 1989, climbers Jim Sweeney and Dave Nyman embarked on a challenging ascent of the Elevator Shaft on Mount Johnson in the Ruth Gorge, Alaska. Their expedition took a perilous turn when Sweeney, leading the climb, experienced a harrowing fall due to a collapsing formation. The incident resulted in a fractured right hip for Sweeney. Facing treacherous conditions, Nyman initiated an extraordinary self-rescue mission, spending six hours lowering the injured Sweeney to safety. The climbers encountered multiple avalanches, losing crucial gear, and enduring extreme conditions. Nyman's subsequent attempt to seek help faced unforeseen challenges, further complicating their dire situation. As their ordeal unfolded, a plane piloted by Mark Niver inadvertently entered the scene, leading to a crash. Niver and his passengers, undeterred by the crash, became unwitting witnesses to the climbers' struggle. The situation took an unexpected turn when the climbers faced additional avalanches, losing more gear and battling the elements. The story underscores the critical importance of communication tools in remote climbs, as the absence of radios significantly impacted the rescue process. Ultimately, a complex rescue mission involving helicopters and skilled mountaineers led to the safe evacuation of Sweeney and Nyman on April 26. The climbers' resilience, coupled with a stroke of luck, played a crucial role in their survival. In this podcast episode, we sit down with Mark Niver, the pilot whose unplanned presence became a pivotal element in this gripping tale of survival and resilience. Join us as we delve into the details of this harrowing adventure, exploring the challenges faced by climbers in remote terrains and the unforeseen events that can shape the course of such expeditions. My father took me to Alaska at the age of 13 to go on a mountain goat hunt. I knew right then and there if I ever got the chance to come to Alaska I would. Three years later I came back and worked in a fish processing plant in Bristolbay Bay Alaska for a summer job. Then after high school in Minnesota I drove to Alaska to try and find employment. Landed a job with BP at their oilfield in Prudhoe Bay.  Three years later I also started commercial fishing in Bristolbay during my vacation time from the oilfield. In the meantime I learned to fly at the age of 19.  Got married and raised three boys, who all started fishing with me on my boat at the age of 10. Also managed to race the Iron Dog snow machine race 4 times…. It's a 2200 mile race through the heart of Alaska.  I retired from the oilfield but continue to commercial fish now. Kashmir Hill is a tech reporter for The New York Times. Her new book is Your Face Belongs to Us: A Secretive Startup's Quest to End Privacy as We Know It. “I often do feel like what my work is doing is preparing people for the way the world is going to change. With something like facial recognition technology, that's really important because if the world is changing such that every photo of you taken that's uploaded is going to be findable, it's going to change the decisions that you make.” Show notes: kashmirhill.com Hill on Longform Hill's New York Times archive Hill's Gizmodo archive Hill's Forbes archive 01:00 "Life Without the Tech Giants" (Gizmodo • Jan 2019) 01:00 "Living On Bitcoin for a Week: The Journey Begins" (Forbes • May 2013) 01:00 "Your Face Is Not Your Own" (New York Times • Mar 2021) 01:00 Your Face Belongs to Us: A Secretive Startup's Quest to End Privacy as We Know It (Random House • 2023) 03:00 "Writer Evan Ratliff Tried to Vanish: Here's What Happened" (Wired • Nov 2009) 11:00 Hill's Above the Law archive 16:00 Immersion: A Writer's Guide to Going Deep (Ted Conover • University of Chicago Press • 2016) 19:00 "The House That Spied on Me" (Gizmodo • Feb 2018) 23:00 "I Used Apple AirTags, Tiles and a GPS Tracker to Watch My Husband's Every Move" (New York Times • Feb 2022) 25:00 "Bing's A.I. Severely injured, unable to walk and without any food, water or emergency kits he must survive his injuries, the elements – and the predators. Just when he is about to give up, the thought of saving the very animals who could end his life, gave him the will to live. What Are The Top 5 Keys To Being a Better Listener?

What Are The Top 5 Keys To Being a Better Listener? Being a good listener is an essential skill that fosters understanding, empathy, and connection with others. Here are five inspirational keys to becoming a better listener: Embrace Silence, Hear Wisdom: Practice the art of stillness and give others the space to express themselves. Silence is not an absence but a presence, a moment filled with potential understanding. Embrace the pause, and allow others to fill it with their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. See Through Others' Eyes, Feel Through Their Hearts: When listening, strive to understand not just the words but the emotions and motivations behind them. Listen with empathy, imagining yourself in the speaker's position, and seek to grasp the full essence of their message. This compassionate understanding creates a deeper connection. Be Present, Be Alive in the Moment: Put away distractions and give your complete attention to the speaker. Let them feel that, in this moment, there is nothing more important than understanding their thoughts and feelings. This full presence communicates respect and validates the importance of their message. Listen to Understand, Not to Reply: Many of us prepare our response while others are still talking, but true listening requires a suspension of judgment and a focus on comprehension. Let go of the urge to interject, solve, or advise, and instead, make it your goal to truly understand the speaker's perspective. Your insightful responses will flow naturally from this understanding. Reflect and Validate, the Mirror of Respect: Reflecting what you've heard and validating the speaker's feelings doesn't mean you have to agree with them. It's a way to demonstrate that you've really heard them and that their feelings are valid. This mirroring reinforces trust, respect, and a deeper connection. Incorporating these principles into your daily interactions can transform your relationships and foster a greater sense of empathy, understanding, and connection with those around you. The ability to listen is a gift you can give to others, and it often returns to you in the form of deeper, more meaningful relationships. When you order something online, do you then track the package to see where it is and when it is coming? This episode begins with the results of a survey about how people track their orders and why and how they hate it when a package is late. https://blog.4over.com/delivery-tracking-consumers-statistics Do you know how soap works to get the dirt out – or how moisturizers work? What is it about caffeine that keeps you awake? The answer is - chemistry! With everything you do and anywhere you go there is a lot of chemistry working in the background. Here to explain how it all works is chemist Kate Bibendorf. Kate is a chemist and author of the book It's Elemental: The Hidden Chemistry in Everything (https://amzn.to/3ycoZEK). You are going to hear things you never knew before and you will likely never drink a flaming shot of vodka again in your life! Doesn't it seem that science should have a pretty solid definition of what life is. Actually though, it is a mystery. Even though we all have a pretty good sense or understanding of life – it remains undefinable. Why? That's what Carl Zimmer set out to find out. Carl writes the Matter column for The New York Times and is author of 13 books including Life's Edge: The Search for What It Means to Be Alive (https://amzn.to/3yhCBP1) He joins me to explain what we do know, what we don't know and how some things you might think are alive – actually are not. Maybe. Who hasn't had a swig of water from a garden hose on a hot day? But it is probably a very bad idea. Listen as I explain why you are much better off going into the house and getting a glass of water and leave the garden hose water in the garden. https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2010/06/do-you-suppose-it-s-safe-to-drink-from-a-hose/ PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS! How should Christians think about evolving technology? What does it look like to engage in conversations about ChatGPT or the Bing AI bot that recently tried to persuade a New York Times reporter to leave his spouse for the bot? How is society affected by apocalyptic predictions regarding overpopulation or climate change? On this episode of The Russell Moore Show, poet, author, and literary critic Adam Kirsch joins Moore to answer these questions. They talk about Kirsch's new book, The Revolt Against Humanity: Imagining a Future Without Us; Jewish and Christian views of human nature; and how to communicate across differences in worldview. They ask whether people with an antihuman mindset—in which humans are the problem—have it right. Or, perhaps, are the transhumanists—who believe we can and should transcend humanity—on to something? Might God offer a better way than either of these perspectives?
