Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Necessary Evil Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 8: Necessary Evil. In this episode we appear to flashback to a time when DS9 was part of a Dickens play…no not quite that far…but the station is under Cardassian rule and it’s all pretty grim. Odo meets Dukat, Kira and even Quark for the very first time as Dukat strong-arms him into investigating the murder of a Bajoran man. Necessary Evil Quark gets himself into some trouble early on and ends up clinging to life in the infirmary. Investigating this attack sends Odo back in time to the first crime he investigated on the station — a much darker and (apparently) bluer time when little orphan children sat on the promenade eating gruel. Well, sort of. We flash backwards and forwards quite a bit as Odo manages to solve the new crime and the very old one that eluded him 5 years ago. What’s this rebinge thing? It’s a re-watch of a thing you’ve already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Please listen to season 1 and some of our favorite episodes like Battle Lines and In the Hands of the Prophets. Or you can also listen to our previous episode (where Kim sighs A LOT): Rules of Acquisition. Next time… We dive into Season 2 Episode 9 of DS9: Second Sight. The Punisher, S2E8-9 - New York City is once again transformed into a battlefield, thanks in part to The Punisher. Granted, he did have some help from Russo and Pilgrim. Russo’s promise to build an army of disillusioned veterans comes to fruition almost overnight. Pilgrim takes a more reserved approach, as usual, placing a bounty on Frank and Amy’s heads that brings every two-bit criminal down on them. Doing so forces Pilgrim to confront a life he left behind years ago—one that he tried to remove from both his body and soul. Frank might not be the only force to worry about. Host Philip Mozolak and Devin Higgins with Eric Scott, Sean Schbley and Jason Johnson.

Welcome to the TRUE NORTH COLLECTIVE PODCAST: SEASON 2! With co-hosts Rachel Bellotti and Jenell Riesner, this is a gathering of un-sugar-coated conversations celebrating the untold stories of everyday people fearlessly finding and living their true north. In our own search to discover and live from our TRUE NORTH, we have met so many interesting, courageous people from all walks of life, doing all sorts of amazing things to live life in their own unique way. Stories from all over the world. Stories with heart. Stories with grit. Stories with plot twists. Stories going untold - until now. This season, we continue to connect with and celebrate these untold stories of everyday people who are fearlessly living their true north and inspiring each of us to do the same. Today, we wrap-up season 2 with our final episode of 2019. What did we learn? What are we proud of? Who are we now? How are we living our TRUE NORTH after a year full of inspiring conversations with unique, everyday humans doing what they do and being who they be? What a year! Plus some genuine thoughts and rants around social media, authentic content creation, pooping, keeping up with the Joneses, losing your sense of self, thinking macro, reclaiming your sovereignty, building community, and surrendering to what is. We wish you the best end to your year and we’ll see you in 2020 as we kick-off Season 3!! *note: this episode includes explicit language appropriate for those ages 16+ RESOURCES MENTIONED: Everybody poops Music from: https://www.jukedeck.com/ 3 KEY TAKEAWAYS: If you are going to ask others to be vulnerable or you want more vulnerability in the world, then you better be willing to join people there. And sometimes the best way to start is by truly listening to others. Listen as they share. Listen as they process. Listen as they navigate. Listen. Period. Listen as they practice being authentically vulnerable (even when it’s uncomfortable) - it can be the powerful permission and invitation we needed to be ok finally sharing and being authentic ourselves in the world too. We are all in this together. Practice allowing yourself to “unfollow” the things that aren’t speaking to you each day so that you can reconnect with yourself and what you want to experience in your life and who you want to be. Whether that is on social media or in the real world, give yourself permission to see what it feels like to create space from a thing without it being “bad” and see what happens, knowing you can always come back to that circle or conversation when you feel ready to. There is real power in giving your own experience merit. “Experts” aren’t the only ones that we can gain wisdom + insights from, especially if their values, desires, and experiences are different from our own. Many times the true wisdom will and does come from within - our own inner dialogues, new awarenesses, inner truths and acknowledgments, the vulnerability of sharing what’s going on within us even if it isn’t sorted out yet, and the connection that we make with our own selves along our journey of trusting our own experiences, values, and desires. The gang are enjoying a well earned break for the fortnight, but don't worry - we've got that top-class content still rolling in for you. This week it's the extended version of the excellent interview Rowan held with Michael Hobbes, long-form journalist at Huffington Post Highline. His article "Millennials are Screwed" is a great combination of storytelling, data and a nifty aesthetic that challenges our lazy assumptions about why Millennials are struggling to get by. Maybe we're not so entitled and feckless... maybe the older generations genuinely had it easier? In our interview Michael introduces the issue of generational inequality and discusses the political environment that has driven this - and what we might do about it. Don't forget to check out the original article, which is fantastic: https://highline.huffingtonpost.com/articles/en/poor-millennials/ The shorter version of this interview first appeared in S2 E8: https://soundcloud.com/connectedanddisaffected/s2e08-millennials-killed-napkins-boomers-killed-housing ___ We'll be republishing the combined 5-part version of Warren's "History of Neoliberalism" next week, don't miss. "succ3ss0r" (S2E8) did the unthinkable—an entire episode of Mr. Robot *without* Elliot. Even show staff writer/head technical producer Kor Adana didn't see that coming. "I had a lot of anxiety and I know the other writers in the room had a lot of anxiety, because we weren’t sure how it was going to be received," he told us on this week's pod. "The question was: did we do enough work early in S2 laying the groundwork for our supporting cast to carry an episode?" This week, we finally got the chance to chat with Adana about this latest episode and much more. He talked about his process writing the show's various hacks, how he's embraced creating Easter eggs for the Mr. Robot subreddit, and just how websites land in Elliot's RSS feed. Compared to his time working in cybersecurity real time, these days Adana says, "I’m doing more IT research than I’ve ever done.”

Grotesque is the name of the episode that brought us back, and the title was not wrong. There were more than a few stomach-churning things that happened in this episode, however, the episode also left a sort of grotesque taste in our mouths. I don’t know if we should have been expecting more or not, but this episode did not seem to fit its placement in the season. It would have been more fitting as a middle of the pack bottle episode rather than the one that we first saw after the destruction of the previous episode so many months ago. But, this is what we got, so this is what we talk about! Send in your feedback We didn’t hear from a lot of people, so we can only guess what the rest of you thought about the episode. My guess is that you all probably had a similar reaction. What we also don’t know is the reason why we didn’t hear from you! Is it because it’s no longer a priority to watch Fear so you aren’t caught up enough to let us know what you think? Or is it because you stopped watching the show altogether? Or worse yet, is it because you are no longer listening to us…? We understand if it is the first two, but we sincerely hope it’s not the last! If you are still watching, what do you think will happen to Nick and the new community he found? How long do you think this new community will last? What do you think will happen with our other two groups? Will they ever all come back together again? If you are still watching/listening, then let us know what you think by leaving us your feedback. As always, we really love audio feedback! For Fear the Walking Dead, Season 2 Episode 9, titled Los Muertos, please submit your feedback by 6 PM Eastern/5 PM Central Tuesday, August 30, 2016. Ratings were down Grotesque got a 1.62 in the 18-49 demographic, with 3.864 million viewers, down from the mid-season finale‘s 1.88 and 4.388 million viewers. Don’t Forget to Subscribe!
