Extending the issues raised in the last episode, in this episode we continue to identify several techniques that are commonly used by those who desire to change your worldview. Specifically, we discuss how worldview engineers can occasion worldview change by rewriting history (or at least by casting it in a different light) and by embedding subversive ideas in fictional stories (in movies, TV shows, novels etc.). We illustrate the use of these techniques with reference to recent uses of the term 'genocide' in political discourse and by revealing the subtle messaging in popular TV shows (The Flash & The 12 Monkeys). Star Trek: Discovery – Season 2, Episode 7: Light and Shadows For episode 32 of The Star Trek Discovery Podcast, Ruthie and I discuss Season 2 Episode 7 of Star Trek: Discovery, which is titled, Light and Shadows. This episode’s teleplay is by Ted Sullivan, from a story by Ted Sullivan & Vaun Wilmott, and it is directed by Marta Cunningham. Discussion on Light and Shadows begins at 7:57… We begin the podcast with feedback from the previous episode. We get into this episode at 7 minutes 57 seconds. Fred’s Pics and Spoiler Alert! We have been blessed yet again with pics chosen by Fred from The Netherlands, including the cover image. We will show them throughout this blog post. To that end, SPOILER ALERT! If you haven’t watched Light and Shadows, you may want to stop reading here! Spock has been found!!! Burnham decides to go to Vulcan to see if Amanda had any luck finding Spock, knowing she probably wouldn’t tell Michael if she did. Going back home reminds Burnham of her childhood years, growing up in the house, and the times she spent with young Spock. Spock is on Vulcan, and he’s really messed up. We learn something I personally found shocking about Spock. He had a form of dyslexia that the Vulcans call L’tak Terai, and that Amanda helped Spock work past this learning disability, after seeing him not get the help he needed at the Vulcan Learning Center. Despite assertions to the contrary, Burnham senses that Amanda knows where Spock is. She kept him in a shrine that shields telepathic communication. Does it also eliminate mind melds? I didn’t understand why that wouldn’t be the first alternative to help Spock. Maybe that was tried, but the lack of a mention took it down, but just a tad for me. It could have easi

We continue our discussion of S2E4: Judah's talk "Nourishing the Soul of a Child". If you haven't yet listened to S2E4 and S2E3 (the first part of the discussion) - there's no way to guarantee this episode will make any sense. Context is everything. Almost everything. If not everything - it's at least significant. Significant to some. OK - so, for some people context is apparently meaningless. If you're one of those people go ahead and listen without context and fully enjoy not knowing what we're talking about. Excellent. Thank you. Note: we recorded another episode prior to these two which focuses largely on the Hindu epic Mahabharata - some of this conversation is referenced in the latter part of this episode. Note: we recorded another episode prior to this one which focuses largely on the Hindu epic Mahabharata - some of this conversation is referenced in the first part of this episode. Kelly and Molly are as disappointed by S2E7 of The Handmaid's Tale as they were by Meghan Markle's wedding dress. There are plenty of bright spots in the episode as they sound off on pansexual Lando Calrissian, Molly's Stromboli Bruce Miller impression, bringing back sexy Joseph Fiennes, the dystopian level of cozy in Gilead, infinite chances for naughty Handmaids, celebrity murderers, and Samira Wiley's Moira unlocking her MySpace account. Preventing Damping Off Disease – S2E7 There is nothing like the excitement of seeing your tender seedlings popping through the soil in your indoor garden area! You immediately have visions of future harvest from these beautiful plants. This will be the best year ever in the garden! Then, something starts to happen: fuzzy mold appears on the soil surface, the stems become thin and weak, and the seedlings wilt and die. You add more water to the tender seedlings because they might be drying out. Instead, this seems to have the opposite effect: more seedlings are wilting! Soon, the entire tray looks horrible and is a complete loss. This, my friends, happened to me last year! It is most likely damping off disease, and if you garden indoors, you eventually will have to deal with it. In this episode of the Small Scale Life Podcast, I discuss 9 steps for Preventing Damping Off Disease. Podcast Topics Damping Off Disease attacking a tomato seedling in 2016 In this podcast, I discuss the following tips for Preventing Damping Off Disease: Plant seeds in containers, and then place the containers in trays Water the tray, not directly on the soil (bottom up, not top down) Sterilize containers, tools and trays for 30 minutes before reusing them Use warm water to water your seedlings Do not overwater! Only add enough water to fill 1/4″ to 1/3″ high in the tray Use a heating pad to start seedlings Use good draining potting mix. Do not use your garden soil or compost! Do not fertilize your seedlings Provide 12 to 16 hours of light from your grow lights. BONUS TIP: keep the lights 1-2″ from the top of your seedlings when they first germinate I finish the podcast by giving you what I think are the most critical steps to Preventing Damping Off Disease. Links While initially looking healthy, this tray of tomato seedlings is doomed – 2016 I discussed the following links on this podcast: University of Minnesota Extension – How to prevent seedling damping off How to Garden Indoors 8 Steps to Starting Plants Indoors Winter Care of Indoor Succulents Friends of Small Scale Life As I develop friendships and communities online and in real life, I have seen really good people doing great work and will be recognizing these people on Small Scale Life. "h4ndshake" (S2E7) shook up Mr. Robot like few previous episodes have. While the critical opinion seems split on how the show handled its latest reveal, one thing rings a bit false—the notion this was some unexpected "twist." This week we *had* to break down the big news, which raises more question than it answers (that's a good thing, btw). Looking forward, two of the show's tech advisors—Tanium's Andre McGregor and Ryan Kazanciyan—presented a webinar this week with plenty of behind the scenes info. Amid talk of their favorite hacks so far or how real Angela's hacking prowess is, they dropped a few hints about what might be coming in the final episodes of S2.

Amazingly, this bottle episode manages to further the story with a wholly unfamiliar style, and yet it fits the mythology perfectly! Join us for 12 Monkeys news, commentary and analysis for Meltdown, and our listener feedback segment! Talking Through Shiva The long wait is finally over! Shiva is the last episode of Fear the Walking Dead for a few months, and this will be our last episode for a little while as we take a small break from what has been a TWD juggernaut. We didn’t like this one We hope you won’t be too disappointed with our episode. Shiva disappointed us. We tried to stay positive, but sometimes our disappointment in Shiva took over a little bit. This is also unusual for us because it’s not very often when both of us feel the same way about an episode. Most of the time, one of us is able to talk the other off the proverbial ledge as to why an episode has been written and directed the way that it is. However, this time we both had to keep ourselves from being too negative. We are confused about the decisions that the network has been making, and we don’t understand why so many of the characters did what they did. It also seemed especially disappointing considering how much we both loved the previous episode. However, many of you out there really enjoyed this episode, which made us very happy. This time, it was you guys who were able to talk us off the ledge. We didn’t like this one… At all I usually have more to say about the episode in my blog post. I’ve always been taught that when you don’t have anything nice to say… In the interest of getting this episode out for your listening pleasure, I’m gonna keep it short. We so enjoy hearing from you all out there who are sticking with FTWD and sticking with our podcast. If this is the first time you’ve ever listened, please know that we really do like the show, and we hope we didn’t deter you from either watching Fear or listening to us! Send in your feedback! As always, we really love getting your feedback! Even though we aren’t going to record for a while (we’re on a break!!), still send us your thoughts about FTWD and also for the last season of TWD. We have plans to do a couple of recap episodes, and we would love some overall thoughts for either show. For the next episode, Fear the Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 8, titled Grotesque, please send in your feedback by 6 PM Eastern/5 PM Central Tuesday, August 23, 2016. Ratings were down It’s the usual trend that ratings go up for a mid-season finale, but that did not happen this time around. Shiva got a 1.88 in the 18-49 demographic, with 4.388 million viewers, which is a series low. Last week, Sicut Cervus got a 1.94 in the 18-49 and 4.486 million viewers.

Ah, the Thirteen of Quarth...Stinky Pete...Lollipop...Kyle Gass...so much lore. This week we'll be talking about S2E7, "A Man Without Honor." They do the thing when they say the title in this one! Highlights include in depth walnut discussion and the annual roast of Dagmer Cleftjaw, but we're really just in it to talk about Jon's stones. May the Croner watch over you.

Talking Poofy (Scott Brennan, Adam Richard, Toby Sullivan) present The Poofcast 37 (Season 2 Episode 7) guest-starring Geraldine Hickey, Nath Valvo and Wes Snelling. In Dear Talking Poofy we attempt to spice up the love life of a couple who've been together for 15 years, Geraldine Hickey's life as a fresh lesbian finds her at a lesbian bar, Nath Valvo is competing with Thomas Jaspers for the Gayest Kid Who Ever Lived and we are beginning to wonder if Where's Wes? is more of a philosophical than geographical question. All this, and our new favourite segment Is That a Thing? in the latest edition of The Poofcast. Podcast recommendation: you can hear Geraldine Hickey on The Downlow podcast where she talks footy with Anne Edmonds, Kate McLennan and various guests. WARNING: The Poofcast contains strong language, adult themes, explicit discussion of sexual techniques that allude to an orchestral instrument, and a very confused Wes Snelling.
