The Potter Discussion: Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts and the Wizarding World Fandom
Send us a textIn this episode, we discuss composer Hans Zimmer signing onto the Harry Potter TV show. Enjoy!Topics/Summary:· 1:35 Hans Zimmer is scoring the TV Show! He is such a well-known composer in the film world. His music is famous for how profound it is, no matter the film. From Kung Fu Panda to the Dark Knight, Hans knows how to create a world.· 11:05 Hans has a huge sound. I'm interested how music of that size will fit into the world of Harry Potter. John William's themes are so personal and quiet, which isn't what Hans is known for.· 19:45 There's a lot of room to explore. Music is a 3D art, and that dimensions will hopefully be used. However, this world has boundaries, and it would be a shame if Hans ventured too far.· 24:40 His music is intense! It's full of electronics and different textures. But is that the right feel for Harry Potter? Maybe not. John Williams was famous for his orchestral scores, and Hans would do well to stay in the acoustic world.Having anything you want to hear or say? Click here for a voice submission or here for text. The DCU Batman conversation is heating up
It's awards season. Time to look at some of the best movies filmed in Chicago.
Show notes provided by Joe PelusoA standing tradition in the comic book industry is the retelling ofthe origins of its iconic heroes.Superman got a new origin, and a newstart, by John Byrne in 1986's "Man of Steel".The amazing Spider-Manhad his origin retold numerous times whenever an anniversary issue hitthe stands, and The Batman's origin had been expanded upon from itsinitial two page intro in the Golden Age to full length issues, andeventually to a three part mini-series written by Len Wein at the endof the Bronze Age. But it wasn't until the end of 1986, with issue#404-407 (cover dated Feb.1987-May 1987) that all the desperate piecesof the Dark Knight's mysterious origins came into four-color realityin "Batman: Year One" by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. Join hosts James, Chris, and Joe as they plumb the secrets of TheBatcave to uncover the elements of creation that gave birth to thisnew "post Crisis " origin of the Dark Knight Detective. How much control did editor Denny O'Neil (a legendary Batmanscribe) have over the production of these issues? What was it like forJames, Chris, and grizzled old comic book vet Joe, reading thisseminal, game changing work for the first time? Who is this upstarthonest cop Jim Gordon just recently transferred from the Chicago PD?And how important was this story to the inception of the Modern Age ofcomics? If you're walking down the streets of Gotham and the sky blackenssuddenly, take cover! The Batman's calling-card may be coming for you!

This week on Cracktastic Plastic, we're shining the Bat-Signal and diving headfirst into the world of Batman toys. From classic Kenner figures and animated-era favorites to modern takes on the Dark Knight, Batman has been a cornerstone of toy collecting for generations—and for us, he's always been a must-have on the shelf. This episode is inspired by our very special guest and CORPS member, Mike Ward. We're thrilled to have Mike join us as we turn the spotlight over to him. We'll ask Mike to introduce himself, walk us through his toy-collecting journey, and share how he found his way into the hobby. Of course, we'll also dig into the big question: what is it about Batman that keeps him coming back to the Caped Crusader time and time again? We also spotlight The Forgotten Toy Box during our Store Tour segment and talk about whether it's a shop we should visit someday. It was 40 years ago this month that the calendar ticked over to 1986, often heralded as one of the high points of the comic book industry—perhaps even the most important year in the history of the medium. Comics began to find the mainstream acceptance they'd long craved, superheroes got grimmer ‘n' grittier, and DC Comics reinvented itself for an older and more discerning audience. We walk through the highlights of this annus mirabilis, take a look back at what was left behind in this brave new era, and wonder whether we'll ever see another year of its like again. This week on Fantastic Forum, we are jumping into three big releases across comics and streaming. First up is DC/Marvel: Batman Deadpool #1, the historic crossover one shot published by DC. Written by Grant Morrison with art by Dan Mora, this issue throws the Dark Knight and the Merc with a Mouth into a chaotic collision that only two universes crashing together could spark. Morrison brings the meta madness, Mora delivers the kinetic spectacle, and we are unpacking whether this landmark comic sticks the landing on one of the wildest crossovers in modern superhero history. Then we turn to Pluribus on Apple TV, the brand new sci fi drama from Vince Gilligan, starring Rhea Seehorn as Carol Sturka. The show follows Carol as the rest of humanity is suddenly joined into a hive mind that seeks to amicably assimilate immune individuals into itself. Is this another hit series from Gilligan? We'll give you our take. Finally, we dive into Star Wars Visions Season 3, the latest anthology series featuring bold, inventive animated shorts from studios around the world. From mythic interpretations to stylish experiments, we are talking about which episodes stand out, which push Star Wars storytelling forward, and which ones you will want to rewatch the moment the credits roll. There's arguably no superhero in existence that has been reimagined, redefined, or reinterpreted more than Batman. No matter how many times he's been rebooted, audiences are always willing to come back to Gotham City's greatest defender. With so much Bat content out there, there's plenty to dissect, analyze, and of course, rank! This podcast is dedicated to a surgical evaluation of Batman's history, with a focus on ranking several topics in the world of Batman, among other classic Bat themes and characters.Join hosts Daniel Cohen, Pop Break's former Film Editor, and Kris Ingersoll, co-host of the Media/Lit podcast, as they bring on several guests every month to share their passion for the one and only Dark Knight. From Adam West to Robert Pattinson, no bat stone will be left unturned. Bottom-line: If you're a Batman fan, this is required listening.Well, we have come to the end of 2025, and what a year it was for DC, as we celebrated our theme of World's Finest with many episodes dedicated to the Man of Steel. As big as 2025 was though, 2026 for DC is shaping up to be massive! We couldn't think of a better way to close out 2025 than by looking ahead to 2026. It's just Daniel and Kris in the Batcave today, as they break down many exciting projects for DC in 2026, as well as 2027. You know we had to close it out with some of the Matt Reeves The Batman: Part II news.Aside from Batman, the bat crew break down what to expect with Supergirl, Lanterns, Clayface, and what's next for Superman in the 2027 announced sequel, Man of Tomorrow!Oh. They also open the show giving their thoughts on that whole WB-Netflix news, as well as some of the Paramount developments in conjunction with this. It does involve DC, after all. We got to talk about it!Also, please keep in mind, this was recorded before the Supergirl and Lanterns trailers were dropped. And…at the end of the show, the duo TEASE next year's Batman by the Numbers theme! You don't want to miss it!

A new talk with writer Jeremy Adams — digging into his personal takes on Flash Gordon, Green Lantern, and Aquaman, and what draws him to (and challenges him about) each iconic mythos. They get into how classic pulp energy, cosmic storytelling, and sea-soaked adventure inform his creative instincts, and how those sensibilities show up in his work.Jeremy also breaks down his upcoming animated adaptation of Batman: Knightfall — what he's focusing on, how he's handling Bane's legacy, and what fans can expect from this fresh take on a brutal chapter of the Dark Knight's history.Plus Jeremy shares stories from DC's KO event — what it was like to contribute to a universe-shaking crossover, the narrative choices that mattered most to him, and the behind-the-scenes moments fans haven't heard before. The epic matchup of Aquman Vs Hawkman, and the upcoming, The Kids Are All fight with many of the new sidekick heroes facing eacch other.
