What if God is Silent: With Special Guest Addison Bevere  Today I decided to re-air this powerful conversation I had with my friend Addison Bevere. Addison and I talk about a struggle that is probably familiar to most of us: God's silence. Addison shares from his new book, Words With God, about this very issue and offers some practical and heart felt insight on how to hear God's voice more clearly. **Addison Bevere is COO of Messenger International (founded by John & Lisa Bevere), a cofounder of SonsAndDaughters.tv and a bestselling author. His new book, Words with God: Trading Boring, Empty Prayer for Real Connection (April 18, 2023) recasts prayer as an intimate and necessary part of the human experience.   The Hearing Jesus Podcast will encourage and equip you to step into the calling God has for your life, living out your faith in the everyday. Together we will break down walls that keep us from growing spiritually. We will dig deep into our Bibles to understand and connect the Scriptures to our lives. We will boldly obey what God calls us to do, walking through doors that only He can open.   Join me for your daily dose of faith, honesty, and prayer.   Learn -> https://shehears.org Shop -> https://shehears.org/resources Connect -> rachael@shehears.org Community-> https://www.facebook.com/groups/743928930315696/ Instagram-> https://www.instagram.com/she_hears/ Need to chat one on one? Using the Scriptures to Pray Today we have a special guest joining us, Jodie Berndt, who is the author of the new book, Praying the Scriptures for Your Marriage. So many of us struggle when it comes to prayer.  It can be intimidating to start praying with our spouse if you've never done it before.  Jodie helps break down some common barriers and helps us understand how powerful praying God's word back to Him can be.  I pray this conversation blesses you! Life is about transitions, it's part of the human experience.  How do we embrace those moments instead of longing for the next stage?  Today I invited my friend Nicki Koziarz on the show to talk about those transitions and her new book, Your New Now.  Nicki walks us through the life of Moses, as an example to us when we are living in a place of transition.  I pray this episode blesses you!   Nicki Koziarz is an ECPA bestselling author and a speaker with Proverbs 31 Ministries. She speaks nationally at conferences, retreats, and meetings and hosts her own podcast, Lessons from the Farm. An evangelist at heart, Nicki inspires others to become the best version of who God created them to be. Nicki, her husband, and their family run a small farm just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, which they affectionately call The Fixer Upper Farm. Learn more at nickikoziarz.com. Your New Now is available at Nicki's website, or wherever books are sold.   Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.  Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God's voice or if it's really your own? Do you wonder how you can know the difference? Do you struggle to feel confident in your relationship with God and what He says in his word? Do you sometimes feel stagnant or like you hit a wall in your spiritual life? Hey, I'm your host, Rachael Groll: missionary, author, pastor, and life coach. And I have been there. I, too, was doubting God's voice in my own life. I, too, felt insecure about the things I thought God might be calling me to do. I wanted to make a difference in the world and be obedient to what God was calling me to do, but I wasn't quite sure how to figure out what exactly that was. I kept telling myself that I was wasting time trying to figure it out or waiting for Him to show me. Or that I wasn't qualified to do the things I thought He might be telling me to do. The answer for me was found in the pages of the Bible, as I learned how to understand what it was actually saying. If you are ready to grow in your faith and to step confidently into the calling God has for you, then join me as we dig deep into God's word so you can learn to live out your faith in your everyday life. Friend, you are loved, you are cherished, and you are His. The Hearing Jesus Podcast will encourage and equip you to step into the calling God has for your life, living out your faith in the everyday. A Grand Finale of Celebration and Praise: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 150   In today's final episode of our Psalms series, we are celebrating Psalm 150 as a kind of grand finale of the Book of Psalms: it's all about praising and celebrating. Singing…. Dancing… Instruments… everyone and everything is called to praise the Lord.  As we finish up this series, I pray that the message of the Psalms stays with you, and that you remember how incredibly much you are loved. Thoughts to Journal: How does the call to praise in Psalm 150 inspire you to deepen your connection with God? Are there specific aspects of your faith that you would like to focus on and celebrate more intentionally? In what ways do you currently express your gratitude and appreciation for the blessings in your life? Are there new ways you can incorporate acts of praise and thanksgiving into your daily life? Finding Victory in Spiritual Warfare: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 149 It is really easy to get overwhelmed when we are in the middle of spiritual warfare.  In Psalm 149, we see a model for prayer when we are facing something bigger than ourselves.  We can praise God because we know that He is the one who will bring the victory.  I pray this episode blesses you. Mentioned in today's episode: Whales and Stars Will Worship Thoughts to Journal: Consider the various elements of creation mentioned in the psalm, such as the stars, mountains, and animals. Have you ever considered that all of Creation is called to praise the Lord?  What are some ways that nature or creation can remind you to praise God in your own life? Today's Key Verse: Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens. Psalm 148:13 Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.  Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God's voice or if it's really your own? Do you wonder how you can know the difference? Raw and Honest Prayers: How King David's Example Can Transform Your Prayer Life: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 143   Psalm 143 portrays King David in a state of emotional distress - feeling low, anxious, and likely struggling to sleep as he turns to God in prayer. He acknowledges his desperation and realizes that his only hope is in God's intervention. Have you experienced a similar situation? I certainly have. I find David's example of being honest and genuine with God in our prayers inspiring. This passage reminds us that it's okay to express our deepest emotions to God and seek His help in times of need. I hope this episode brings you encouragement, particularly when you find yourself in a similar circumstance. Thoughts to Journal: Think about a time in your life when you felt overwhelmed, anxious, or low, just like King David in Psalm 143. How did you handle those emotions? Did you turn to God in prayer or try to manage them on your own? Reflect on what you learned from that experience and how you can apply David's example of being real and honest with God in your prayer life. Write down a prayer to God, expressing your raw emotions and seeking His help in any current struggles or challenges you may be facing. Today's Key Verse: Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go,  for to you I entrust my life. Honoring God with Our Words: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 141   Hey there, welcome to the Hearing Jesus podcast! In today's episode, we're going to dive into Psalm 141 and explore David's prayer to God about his words. We'll talk about how this prayer can help us yield our hearts and minds to the Lord, especially in difficult situations where our mouths can get the best of us. David's example reminds us to ask for God's guidance and control over our mouths and hearts, so we can respond in ways that honor Him. So, if you're looking for inspiration and guidance on how to pray and surrender your words to God, this episode is for you. I pray this episode blesses you! Thoughts to Journal: How has your mouth responded in the past when you have been faced with a similar experience to David?  When you think about this in terms of your mouth being a reflection of what's in your heart, what thoughts do you have?  Do you need to surrender your words to the Lord?  Spend some time in prayer today, asking God to help you the next time you are in this kind of situation. Today's Key Verse: Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips. Psalm 141:3   Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast. There is Only One Hero in the Bible : Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 140   Today's passage looks at the behavior of David, in a situation that is pretty similar to what each of us have gone through.  Yet there are some aspects that we should recognize as part of his humanity, and not necessarily something we should emulate.  Instead, we should look to Jesus, how He responded, as our model.  As we compare the two today, I pray this episode blesses you.   Thoughts to Journal: In the past, have you looked to the human character in the Bible as the heroes?  How does your perspective shift when you realize that they aren't the ones that are the hero?  Allow yourself some time today to process that, as you start to look for God's character and nature to be the model we chase after. Today's Key Verse: I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, And justice for the poor. Psalm 140:12 Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.  Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God's voice or if it's really your own? Do you wonder how you can know the difference? God's Loving Thoughts of You Outnumber the Grains of Sand: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 139   Friend, we are discussing some powerful truths today.  God knows you intimately, and there is nowhere you can go to escape that love.  When we allow those truths to sink in, it will change things for us.  I pray that as we study today's Psalm, you recognize how incredibly much you are loved. Thoughts to Journal: Does the understanding of God's omniscience change anything for you?  Or the fact that the enemy is not omniscient?  What about God's omnipresence?  Spend some time today, reflecting on the ways these truths impact your relationship with God. Today's Key Verse: How precious also are Your thoughts for me, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the sand. The Faithfulness of God is Everlasting: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 138   Today is the first of eight psalms written by David.  David's prayer of thankfulness and praise also includes his desire to see the name of Yahweh praised in the surrounding nations. Eventually, the spread of the gospel would reach outside of Israel after Jesus came.  As we unpack this psalm, may it encourage you to pray for those that do not yet know Him. Thoughts to Journal: In the midst of trouble, we see David praising God for His faithfulness.  When you think of God's name, do you also think about his character?  His behavior?  His reputation?  How can those things encourage you when you are going through trouble?  Spend some time today reminding yourself of these things so you can refer to them in difficult seasons. Today's Key Verse: On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul. Psalm 138:3 Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.  Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God's voice or if it's really your own? Do you wonder how you can know the difference? Yearning for God's Presence: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 137   As we study today the worship leaders of Israel, and the longing they experienced while in captivity, it reminds us of the yearning we sometimes feel as we live in the space of the “already but not yet.”  We are already one with Christ, but not yet fully restored, and we won't be this side of heaven.  It is a normal human emotion to sometimes wrestle with that yearning.  I pray that as we unpack today's psalm, it helps you settle into a place of thankfulness for the gift and presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Thoughts to Journal: Do you ever long for heaven?  For the complete restoration of our lives, our bodies, and our world?  If we are honest, it sometimes is hard not to yearn for that when we look at the world around us.  Spend some time today thanking God for the gift of the Holy Spirit, which empowers us to be a light in this dark world as we wait for Christ's return. Today's Key Verse: May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you Psalm 137:6a   Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.  Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God's voice or if it's really your own? Feeling Stuck in Your Prayer Life?  Using Psalm 136 as a Model to Get Unstuck: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 136   Today we take a look at the redemptive thread woven throughout Israel's history through the eyes of the psalmist.  This passage can be a model for us when we feel stuck in prayer, as we praise God for the way He has worked in our own lives.  We can also look forward to the redemptive work Jesus accomplished on the cross.  I pray this episode blesses you. Thoughts to Journal: Do you sometimes get stuck in your prayer life?  Try to take the patterns we see in Psalm 136 as a model for your own prayer life to get you started.  Remember that it's not a formula, but an idea to get you started.  The goal of prayer is relationship.  Write out your response to Him, He longs to spend time with you, friend! Today's Key Verse: Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever. Praising God for His Goodness and His Greatness: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 135   Praising God has more to do with who He is than what He may be doing in our lives.  We know God's character and nature does not change, so we can also praise Him for who He will be in the future. Today we see that example in Psalm 135. Thoughts to Journal: When was the last time you simply praised God for who He is?  For His goodness and greatness, not in response to a current situation?  While it is important to praise Him for what He has done and what He is currently doing, it's also important to praise Him for who we know Him to be.  Take some time to write out a prayer of praise to Him today. Encouraging Our Spiritual Leaders: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 133 and Psalm 134   Today we again combine two shorter Psalms that both talk about the ways we can encourage our spiritual leaders.  We also discuss unity and how important that is for the body of Christ.  I pray this episode blesses you. Thoughts to Journal: When was the last time you spoke a word of encouragement or appreciation to someone that is a spiritual leader in your life? What can you do this week to reach out to that person to let them know you value them? Spend some time praying for them today and name something specific you can do to encourage them. Today's Key Verse: May the Lord bless you from Zion,  He who is the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 134:3   Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast. Together we will break down walls that keep us from growing spiritually. We will dig deep into our Bibles to understand and connect the Scriptures to our lives. Thoughts to Journal: Are there hard emotions that you resist taking to God about your past?  Friend, He longs for you to honestly come to Him with those emotions, it's how we heal.  Take some time today to bring those unspoken things to the one who can heal your heart. Is the Prosperity Gospel a Biblical Principle? What the Bible Actually Teaches: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 128   Many of us are familiar with the term “prosperity gospel,” but what does Scripture actually say?  Today we unpack a portion of Scripture that is sometimes used to perpetuate some false teaching.  I pray this conversation blesses you. Thoughts to Journal: Have you had some inaccurate thoughts when it comes to prosperity within the Christian life?  How does today's teaching change your perspective?  When it comes to prosperity, what does a prosperous relationship with the Lord look like in your life?  If that is not what you are experiencing right now, spend some time in prayer, talking with the Lord about that. Today's Key Verse: Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, Who walks in His ways.  Psalm 128:1   Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.  Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God's voice or if it's really your own? Unless the Lord Builds the House- Recognizing God's Hand of Blessing in Our Lives: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 127 In today's hustle culture, it can be easy to lose sight of God's blessings in our lives and take the credit for those blessings ourselves.  Today's psalm serves as a powerful reminder that any good thing in our life is a gift from God.  I pray this episode blesses you. Thoughts to Journal: Have you been guilty of taking the credit for the good things in your life that are actually blessings from God?  Have you spent too much time building things that are temporary instead of things that are eternal?  What are you currently building for the kingdom?  Spend some time before the Lord today, carefully thinking through this topic, and write down what the Lord is saying to you. Restoration Is A Process: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 125 and 126   Today we focus on both Psalm 125 and 126 together because they give us a powerful picture of the restorative work that God can do after a difficult season.  While we won't be fully restored until we get to heaven, there can be such joy in knowing that God can work in the places of our lives that the enemy tried to steal.  I pray this episode blesses you! Thanking God When He Fights Our Enemies On Our Behalf: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 124   Sometimes we forget that the world we live in is not neutral, it's evil.  We are powerless to fight the enemy of our lives without God's help.  Today we see Psalm 124 as a model to pray and thank God for the way He intervenes in our lives. I pray this episode encourages you! Thoughts to Journal: React to the statement that the world we live in is not neutral, but evil.  Is that hard for you to remember sometimes?  How does that realization impact your heart towards your relationship with God?  Spend some time today, thanking Him for all the battles He fights for us, even the ones we don't know about. Today's Key Verse: Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. Psalm 124:8 Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.  Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God's voice or if it's really your own? Do you wonder how you can know the difference? Hey, I'm your host, Rachael Groll: missionary, author, pastor, and life coach. And I have been there. I, too, was doubting God's voice in my own life. I, too, felt insecure about the things I thought God might be calling me to do. I wanted to make a difference in the world and be obedient to what God was calling me to do, but I wasn't quite sure how to figure out what exactly that was. I kept telling myself that I was wasting time trying to figure it out or waiting for Him to show me. Or that I wasn't qualified to do the things I thought He might be telling me to do. Humble Surrender to God In the Same Way of Jesus: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 123   Psalm 123 showcases a humble posture before God as the psalmist asks God to intervene and help.  In the New Testament, we see Jesus display His humility as He serves people and serves God.  Today's devotional helps us recognize this aspect of humility as we surrender to God, even when we don't understand. Thoughts to Journal: What are some ways you resist surrendering fully to God?  How does the example of humility we see in this psalm, as well as the example of Jesus impact your heart today?  Are there situations or emotions that you are resisting handing over?  Why do you think that is?  Spend some time allowing the Lord to work in your heart in this area today. Today's Key Verse: To You I have raised my eyes, You who are enthroned in the heavens! Psalm 123:1   Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.  Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God's voice or if it's really your own? Praying Peace for Jerusalem and Our World Leaders: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 122   We know that Jerusalem was the Holy place in the Old Testament where God revealed Himself to His people. However, Jesus talks about the body of Christ, believers, as the New Jerusalem.  Because of the Holy Spirit, God's presence is no longer bound to just one location.  It's important to remember that as we pray for our leaders in both Jerusalem and our own countries. Thoughts to Journal: Spend some time meditating on the fact that holiness is not bound to a specific location.  Instead, if you are a believer, the Holy Spirit is in you, and He makes His presence available to you, no matter where you are.  What does that practically mean for you as you live your daily life?  Spend some time reflecting on that today. Today's Key Verse: For the sake of my brothers and my friends, I will now say, “May peace be within you.” Psalm 122:8 Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.  Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God's voice or if it's really your own? The Confidence We Gain When We Know God is Present: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 120   Many of us have had moments where we are scared and facing something bigger than ourselves.  The benefit of walking with God in those moments is that we gain a confidence in our relationship with Him which will help us get through the next time we are facing similar circumstances.  In today's episode, we see a model of prayer for when we are facing such circumstances. I pray this episode blesses you.   Thoughts to Journal: Through the gift of the Holy Spirit, we know that there is nowhere we can go that God is not present with us.  Have there been times in your life when you felt similar to what the psalmist felt in today's psalm? Spend some time today thanking God for the fact that you cannot escape His presence no matter where you go. Today's Key Verse: I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me. God's Law Reveals His Character: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 119   Today's Psalm is the longest Psalm and the longest chapter in the Bible.  We see how intentional the psalmist was to carefully plan out each stanza.  It reveals to us the reason why we need Jesus.  I pray this episode blesses you.   Thoughts to Journal: As you think about how much the Psalmist valued the law in his life, think about the law in your own life.  Have there been times that you have felt overwhelmed or intimidated by how much it seems like there is we need to do?  Or not do?  How does the realization that Jesus is the only one who was able to follow the law impact you?  Do you see the connection as to why we need a relationship with Jesus?  Spend some time reflecting on all of this today. God's Love Endures Forever: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 117 and Psalm 118   Today we are walking through both Psalm 117 and Psalm 118.  Psalm 117 is the shortest chapter in the Bible, and it accompanies Psalm 118 so well.  In Psalm 118, we see a foreshadowing of Jesus as the stone that was rejected becomes the capstone.  Jesus quotes Psalm 118 in several places in the New Testament, so it's important we learn what it says. I pray this episode blesses you.   Thoughts to Journal: Think through the concept of the stone the builder's rejected.  Do you recognize how the Resurrection of Jesus has become the capstone?  What does that practically mean in your own life?  Is He your foundation stone?  Spend some time in prayer today, praising Him for the way He has intervened in your own life. Today's Key Verse: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. He Hears Us: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 116   While we spend a lot of time learning how to hear God's voice more clearly, it's important to realize that He hears us, too.  Today we look see how the psalmist responds when God hears his prayer as an example of how we are to respond- with praise.   Thoughts to Journal: How does it impact your heart to recognize that God hears you?  While we may not always get the answer we want, we can trust that God is faithful and hears our prayers. Spend some time today praising Him for how He hears you and can be trusted. Today's Key Verse: I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. He is Our Help and Shield: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 115   When we see repetition in the Scriptures, it should cause us to take notice.  Repetition means God wants us to pay attention.  Today the phrase, “He is our help and shield,” is repeated for us in a way that calls us to praise Him in all things.  I pray this episode is a blessing to you.   Thoughts to Journal: Think through what it means for God to be your help and shield.  How can you actively remember that in both good times and bad?  What are some practical ways you can put active remembrance into practice in your life?  List some ideas out. Today's Key Verse: May the Lord cause you to flourish, both you and your children. May you be blessed by the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 115: 14-15 Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.   Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God's voice or if it's really your own? I kept telling myself that I was wasting time trying to figure it out or waiting for Him to show me. Today's Key Verse: Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, who turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water. The Godly Male Counterpart to the Proverbs 31 Woman: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 112   Many of us have heard of and studied the godly woman in Proverbs 31, but did you know there is a male counterpart to that passage?  It's found in Psalm 112.  While many of the characteristics apply to both men and women, the ancients who heard this passage would have heard it as an example of what it meant to be a Godly man.  Today's episode is so interesting, I pray it blesses you.   Thoughts to Journal: If you are honest, does fear occupy more of your thoughts than it should?  If the fear of God doesn't leave room for fear of the world, what does that mean for your fears?  The key is your relationship with God.  If that relationship is not where it should be, spend some time in prayer, talking to God about that today. Today's Key Verse: Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous. Psalm 112:4   Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.   Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God's voice or if it's really your own?
