When was the last time you woke up feeling like you were excited to dive into your day? If you're not sure, you might be suffering from burnout. In this week's episode, I'm sharing the 12 phases of burnout (as developed by psychologists!) and talking about why I think—as hand raisers and yes sayers—we're especially prone to burning ourselves out. I'm also sharing one of my favorite super-easy-to-start-using tools for beginning to move yourself beyond burnout. What I Said: "The answer to moving beyond burnout is never that you need to work harder." "If we say ‘yes’ without saying ‘no,’ then we are just saying ‘yes’ to everything, and that’s not going to work" "We often hang out in the early stages of burnout and don’t think there is anything wrong with that." "Moving forward does not mean we have to sacrifice ourselves.” Those Timestamps 04:30 - The 12 phases of burnout 06:35 - Excess of ambition 08:30 - displacement of conflict 09:46 - Denial of problems 10:57 - Getting out of the early stages of burnout 12:25 - Moving forward and chill out at the same time 16:01 - Start practicing a pause 19:11 - Those (entertainment) systems are working against us. There’s often a big difference in expectations and reality. To have happy holidays this year, we need something we can’t plan, orchestrate, or create … we need God’s Spirit and God’s grace. Welcome to the Holiday Soul Care Series on the Dear Daughters Podcast. The 2020 holiday season is here and it’s going to be different from anything we’ve ever experienced. I want to see how you’re doing and make sure you are taking good care of you … and I want to help you have grace for a new way of doing things over the holidays this year. If we hold on too tightly to expectations, it can steal our joy when reality doesn’t look like we hoped. We need to open up our hands, release those expectations, and accept what God has for us. I pray that, especially in this holiday season, you open your hands to God and have the grace to see things with new eyes and a childlike heart. Gathering at the table is good for your soul … a time when we are present with each other, connect with each other, and receive nourishment from the food, from each other, and from God above. Welcome to the Fall Soul Care Series on the Dear Daughters Podcast. I want to see how you’re doing and share some new ways for you to take good care of you. I love how serving a simple meal at the table brings us together. It’s a passion of mine that started from this verse in Acts 2:46-47. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. I pray that, especially in the upcoming holiday season, you find creative ways to be with the people you love. This week, I'm answering a listener question (hi Susan!) about how to embody and live into one's values, but I'm also taking this question deeper to talk about how to get started in bridging the divide between where you are now and where you want to be, even if (and especially when!) that divide feels overwhelming and insurmountable! I also share how you might be treating those seeds you're planting so unfairly and what to do instead as well as give some personal-for-your-agency-archetype advice for each type. (I feel like I took myself to church on this one; thank you for your question, Susan! It inspired so much!) What I said: "When it comes to embodying values, our job is to stay really fluid, nimble, and open." "If we keep taking steps, those steps might take us somewhere surprising." "If you are not embodying your own values, you're embodying somebody else's." "Commit to using your values as your compass even if everyone else seems to be loving some totally-jacked-but-socially-acceptable-enough compass to guide their lives." "The answer to getting to where you want to be is not to stay where you don't want to be." Those Timestamps: 06:11 - How to get started with a values list 08:16 - Commit to imperfect and uncomfortable action 12:47 - How small steps can be a game-changer for you 18:17 - Values as a compass 24:20 - Crossing the divide between where you are and where you want to be AND how to approach this considering your Agency Archetype 30:08 - Destruction as an unbuilding Show Notes: Get on the early-bird notification list for the RYHSY Inner Circle Submit a q or topic idea for a future podcast episode Take the Agency Archetypes Quiz

We've spent longer than I originally planned on discussing the most recent theme, "Be Healthy", with an emphasis on being, not getting, to our healthiest selves. The guests that shared their expertise this month were all full of valuable information, and in this episode I'm sharing how I got schooled, meaning what stuck out to me the most. Tune in for what I have to say, but also voices from the podcast community. This is the episode where I also let you in on what's been going on in the Packer home. As you know, we moved out of our home in California, moved in with my parents in Utah, and have just been trying to adjust to our new routines. I've also made an exciting decision about schooling for the upcoming year, and I'm curious if you've wanted to do the same! I'm signing off from new episodes for the next month as a lot of behind-the-scenes work goes on. But, especially if you're a new listener, you'll be able to listen to some freshly edited encore episodes. I hope that you are also able to continuing growing this summer, whatever that looks like for you, and look forward to reconnecting here on the podcast in a few weeks! About a few other things... Welcome back Heroes! We reversed the setting of this episode by placing me, on the hot seat. On this episode, I sat with Bolu Oladele to discuss the process i took to birth my ebook - A Hero Girl's Guide to Self Discovery. This lockdown gave us the chance to self reflect and I did just that. I went to an intense study of seeking and searching, Now you do not have to do that because I’ve gathered all of these resources into this workbook for you to learn about the most important subject in the universe – You! Yes you! I believe this is the perfect time to take some time out alone and know yourself inside and out, because only then, can you truly begin your path to self discovery If you've enjoyed this podcast, kindly share with your network and leave a review for us . we'll love your feedback about this episode Show Notes Get my ebook This Thing called Purpose Iyanla Vanzant Fix My Life ASMR Get My YouTube Playlist My Journey to Self Discovery: How I upgraded my life Bolutife Oladele Instagram Twitter Blog
In this episode I'm combining self development with science, and it really does work. For example, as part of my seemingly never-ending quest to develop healthy sleep habits I frequently say, "I prioritize sleep." I do not say, "I'm incapable of a good night's rest" or "It takes me forever to fall asleep" and other non-aspirational, self-identifying, statements. In order to really change, I've learned how confirmation bias can shift your health habits. Whether you already know what "confirmation bias" is, or not, the insight I'm sharing in this episode will help you. But if you're not familiar, it's the idea that we seek evidence around us to support our self-appointed identities. And at the core of our habit formation, is our identity. So, with a simple reframe you can work towards your habits with much more success. I'm sharing examples from my own life of how I examined my goals and worked on my own habits by using a simple phrase, "That's like me!" And this is not expected to be unrealistic, like lying to yourself. I want to show you how to talk to yourself in aspirational ways, while still grounded in truth. Tune in and learn how to start with the who, instead of the how. About a few other things... It's my birthday month, and I actually want to give gifts to some of you! Would you take less than 5 minutes to leave a rating and review for the podcast? Once you get started, how do you keep talking? Creed and Crishelle share some important principles for successful experiences. These conversations work best when it’s a two-sided discussion instead of a one-sided interrogation. You don’t have to make judgments immediately - work to be curious and learn about the other person. You can have dual emotions going on – compassion and fear, for example. Share your real emotions in an honest way, and be prepared to listen and accept how your partner is feeling as well. It’s an opportunity to start a pattern of open conversations on this and other deep subjects. Please be aware that conversations about pornography within marriages can be very different because of the commitment – we’ll talk about that in future episodes. This is part 3 in a series. No need to worry about when to start talking about the issue of pornography – Creed and Crishelle share thoughts about how to know when it’s a good time depending on the phase of the relationship. And whenever that time is, it helps to give someone time to prepare for the conversation instead of just jumping in without warning. Creed and Crishelle share 3 reasons why it’s important to talk about pornography with your romantic partner. It starts a pattern of open and honest communication in your relationship, you find out if your values are compatible, and you come to understand your significant other’s experiences and emotional context. Why does someone may have the emotions they have? Some people have a ton of shame surrounding their pornography use. And on the other side, those who have been affected by friends or family who have struggled with pornography might have trauma of their own. Recognizing and being respectful of people's emotions is so important. Every time you talk it gets easier! Show Notes: Get our Free Guide: How to Talk About Pornography When You’re Dating. When I am asked, "How do I find my purpose?" I have kind of an unconventional response: nobody has one, lifelong purpose, to be found. Because it's not about what you do, but who you are. I want to encourage you to live a life of meaning and substance and purpose no matter what you do. Instead of trying to find your purpose, it's time to live with purpose. To help keep this manageable for you I'm breaking it down into 3 ways you can start right away to live with purpose. Stop seeking for the what and live the how. Believe you matter and live like you matter. You get to decide, think deeper. I really hope you take the time to tune in to this episode, to do something just for you, because it will truly benefit everything around you. I'm sharing a guided exercise that I've previously only shared in my workshops to help you dig deep and feel your worth. You will be empowered to live with purpose immediately, it is so important and you are so important. About a few other things... With all this time we have been spending at home, some of my organization struggles have been on the forefront of my mind. In January I released an organization audio course to help you learn how to cut the clutter and find clarity. That is still available to you before prices go up May 1st. After this month of "getting started" I'm opening up about what that has looked like for my family - both big goals and exciting short term plans. I also share how I got schooled by our guests, meaning what surprised me and what I won't ever forget from our conversations. If you missed the Do Something growth spurt episode here's a friendly reminder it is never too late and I guide you through how to start there. As always, I continue to be blown away by this community and the vulnerability in which listeners show up each month in these "Dear Progressor" submissions. In this episode you'll hear from women who each learned something different this month - how to overcome all-or-nothing thinking, the importance of creativity, and of course, getting started. One submission identifies herself as an About Progress "lurker" (that's okay!!) and then proceeds to open up about the life-saving lessons she learned and healing she has felt from this podcast, among other things. I've gone ahead and done all the work for you on this one. What work is that? The thing where you look ahead to a new year, come up with new goals, and then use up all your energy throwing a million excuses at them. There are 3 big ones I'm talking about in this episode, and I'm sure well all have many more. But what I want you to hear is, get started ANYWAY. Have you ever considered that every day you get to decide to start again? It's such a refreshing thought, to remember that failure is never final. So yes, we're all excited to get started with the new year, but I want to motivate you to not let small things derail your new found progress. I share with you, in the episode, how I let myself (literally) sit in the wings many years ago and how that attitude persisted in my life. Now, after taking steps both big and small, I allow myself to move towards center stage in ways that previously would've paralyzed me. You, too, can start without knowing the exact finish line. If you've been here a while, remember when this was a baking/lifestyle/interior design blog?? I didn't know what About Progress would be 5 year in, but I just knew I needed to get it started. Tune in, at the end of the episode I'm guiding you through how to get started and take action on your own list, and ultimately your own progress. About a few other things... This topic is big, so we're doing something a little different and spending the next 2 months covering all of the complex relationships in your life. And don't count yourself out, there will be something for everyone in this "relationships bootcamp" as we start with learning how we treat ourselves. Over the next 2 months you can look forward to expert interviews on relationships with parents, in-laws, friends, spouses, and children. Plus, I'm releasing the second part of my faith crisis in an effort to discuss spiritual relationships. But! We cannot go any further in our learning about relationships until we've addressed the relationship we have with ourself. I hope you listen and apply the 3 principles I discuss in this episode using the progress plan. About a few other things... Oh boy! Another dramafest for gamers. COD: Modern Warfare has one part of a mode that is exclusive. So? Why does it matter? I share my opinion on this episode. The reason I break from the rest of influential gamers is because there seems to be a narrow minded approach. I did play the COD Beta too. However, it's important to note that this industry is changing. Whether we like it or not. That's why subscription will be next approach most companies take. Buying anything will soon require a subscription or the product itself will be more expensive. That's why I go into further detail in this episode!Show Notes:Get a free game on GOGBorderlands 3 stats and why it's all marketing speakCOD: MW Beta and Mode exclusivityRed Dead Redemption 2Why buying a keyboard or mouse will require a subscriptionWhat does this mean to consumers. It feels good to be checking back in after taking a break this past month. I love this "Dear Progressor" episode each month because we get to hear from real people, members of this community who have learned something that they want to share. I also share what I've been up to and what I have learned - and this month it was a lot! "Dear Progressor," August Edition I like to check in each month and let you know what I've been up to, as well as what I've learned from this month's episodes. Thanks to the break I took around here I was able to spend time on other projects - like painting my whole entire house! It's kind of a funny story and I share it in this episode. This month I also had sort of a mental reset, and I'm sharing the specific boundaries I'm setting for myself moving forward. Did you realize I aired SIX encore episodes this month?? Many of you probably hadn't heard them before, but even if you had I bet you learned something new. Thank you to the women who sent in voice bites for this episode, each takeaway is so valuable. Listen in to these unique perspectives from the month! I know, I know, it seems a little counterintuitive after our month about dreaming big. But it's true, resting when and where you need to can actually help you grow. This month's theme, Take a Break!, is meant to fill you back up and enrich your life. I'm going to share what inspired me to try this (sort of scary) thing. Take a break! I had a strong impression a couple months back to SLOW DOWN. You can hear the full story in the episode, but as a result here we are! There are so many things in store for this community and in order for me to make them really happen I actually have to let go a little. I'm not abandoning ship, but I am going to ease up in some areas. This month's progress plan will realllly guide you through this. I don't want you to drop your priorities, but I do want you to outsource and make space so you can feel truly restored. Because that's my goal this month! I'm letting go in two big areas so I can essentially rearrange my priorities for the time being. You might be surprised what I'm moving up on my list. Grab this month's progress plan, catch up on your Do Something list, and stick with me here when it serves you. You'll see less of me on social media, so sign up for my weekly newsletter where I'll still check in and am always happy to hear back from you. I need to start with a THANK YOU for dreaming big with me this month. It was one of my very favorite themes and I hope you were able to learn and grow as much as I was. In today's episode a few listeners share their big dreams, tune in to be inspired by what they have to say! "Dear Progressor," July Edition I like to check in each month and let you know what I've been up to, as well as what I've learned from this month's episodes. Spoiler: turns out I hate canoeing. But on a more serious note, I was able to share some of my very favorite interviews with valuable takeaways. If you're still holding back, remember, you can be more than one thing, start small, and you have the right to dream. Though small in number, the listeners that sent in submissions for this episode really showed up for all of us. From mindset shifts, to pushing themselves, encouraging you to aim high, and totally opening up about their 10 biggest dreams, you can't help but feel inspired. P.S. I've got a slight programming change coming up next month, but that means big things are in store. I hope you enjoy what I've got planned! With the new month comes a new theme, and I'm starting this episode off asking you to reconsider calling this one "dumb", ha! It's time to allow yourself to dream big. I suggest downloading the Progress Plan so you can work through it as you listen to this episode. I'm going to offer several shifts you can make in the way you look at dreams, as well as get realllly vulnerable and share 10 of my big dreams. Why dream big? I know what you're going to say, really I do. Dreaming big is often met with resistance - mostly from our own selves. So right away I'm tackling the excuses we're all using when it comes to following our dreams. This includes give you permission to get outside of your priorities. In this episode I also want you to understand that dreams can change, and they certainly look different for everyone. Nothing is too big or too small, so take action and claim them. But how?? I'm going to encourage you to write them down. And then something a little scarier: say them outloud. In fact, I believe so much in this idea that I wrote down my dreams (in present tense!) and read them to you at the end of the episode. Some of them are very specific, "I am a New York Times Best Selling Author." Some of them resonate with many of our dreams, "I am a world traveller." And some are a manifestation of who I want to be, "I am loving, passionate, fun, and stable." If I can share these personal dreams with thousands of you, I know you can do this in a way that works for you. I hope you take my challenge and tune in for the rest of this month's dream big inspired interviews! About a few other things I have always tried to write things down - you know this about my Do Something Lists, Progress Plans and more. But, using a planner has sometimes been a struggle. I found Monk Manuals on my own and this has been the only planner I've found myself totally committed to and really loving.
