James Rollins is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of international thrillers. His writing has been translated into more than forty languages and has sold more than 20 million books. The New York Times says, “Rollins is what you might wind up with if you tossed Michael Crichton and Dan Brown into a particle accelerator together.” NPR calls his work, “Adventurous and enormously engrossing.” Rollins unveils unseen worlds, scientific breakthroughs, and historical secrets matched with stunning suspense. As a veterinarian, he had a practice in Sacramento for over a decade and still volunteers at local shelters. Nowadays, Rollins shares his home up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains with his two golden retrievers, Echo and Duncan. He also enjoys scuba diving, spelunking, kayaking, and hiking. Of course, he loves to travel and experience new places around the world, which often inspire his next globe-trotting adventure. From #1 New York Times bestselling author James Rollins, the latest riveting, deeply imaginative thriller in the Sigma Force series, told with his trademark blend of cutting-edge science, historical mystery, and pulse-pounding action. It begins in Africa . . . A United Nations relief team in a small village in the Congo makes an alarming discovery. An unknown force is leveling the evolutionary playing field. Men, women, and children have been reduced to a dull, catatonic state. The environment surrounding them—plants and animals—has grown more cunning and predatory, evolving at an exponential pace. The insidious phenomenon is spreading from a cursed site in the jungle — known to locals as the Kingdom of Bones —and sweeping across Africa, threatening the rest of the world. What has made the biosphere run amok? Is it a natural event? Or more terrifyingly, did someone engineer it? Commander Gray Pierce and Sigma Force are prepared for the extraordinary and have kept the world safe, vigilance for which they have paid a tragic personal price. Yet, even these brilliant and seasoned scientific warriors do not understand what is behind this frightening development—or know how to stop it. As they race to find answers, the members of Sigma quickly realize they have become the prey. To head off global catastrophe, Sigma Force must risk their lives to uncover the shattering secret at the heart of the African continent—a truth that will illuminate who we are as a species and where we may be headed . . . sooner than we know. Mother Nature—red in tooth and claw—is turning against humankind, propelling the entire world into the Kingdom of Bones.

THE LAST ODYSSEY For eons, the city of Troy—whose legendary fall was detailed in Homer’s Iliad—was believed to be myth, until archaeologists in the nineteenth century uncovered its ancient walls buried beneath the sands. If Troy was real, how much of Homer’s twin tales of gods and monsters, curses and miracles— The Iliad and The Odyssey—could also be true and awaiting discovery? In the frozen tundra of Greenland, a group of modern-day researchers stumble on a shocking find: a medieval ship buried a half-mile below the ice. The ship’s hold contains a collection of even older artifacts—tools of war—dating back to the Bronze Age. Inside the captain’s cabin is a magnificent treasure that is as priceless as it is miraculous: a clockwork gold map embedded with an intricate silver astrolabe. The mechanism was crafted by a group of Muslim inventors—the Banū Mūsā brothers—considered by many to be the Da Vincis of the Arab world—brilliant scientists who inspired Leonardo’s own work. James Rollins’ books are usually categorized as thrillers, but most of them could easily be labeled science fiction. An instant bestseller, his latest novel, Crucible, is no exception, revolving around the effort to control Eve, an artificial super-intelligence. On one side of the conflict is a secret sect, the Crucibulum. The spiritual descendents of the Spanish Inquisition, the members of the Crucibulum consider female scientists—like Eve’s inventor, Mara Silviera, a Portuguese graduate student—to be heretics and witches. On the other side is Sigma Force, a group of former soldiers working for the Defense Department’s research and development arm. This is Collins’ 14th novel featuring Sigma Force. When the Crucibulum steal Eve and order her to destroy Paris, the only way Sigma Force can hope to prevent disaster is by unleashing Eve’s equal: a second Eve. The two Eves represent the risks and rewards of the singularity, Rollins says. The bad Eve is a super-intelligence run amok, one who will do anything—including destroying its human inventors—in a fight to survive. The good Eve, who sides with Sigma Force, represents the hope that “the singularity will be a boon to mankind,” Rollins says. Collins concedes that genre categories are sometimes arbitrary. “When I wrote my first novel, Subterranean, I thought I was writing a science fiction novel,” he says. “My editor … said, ‘Hey, we’re going sell this as a modern-day thriller,’ and I said, ‘What about those telepathic marsupial creatures that live under Antarctica?’ and she said, ‘You set your story in modern times, and you have enough scientific basis for those telepathic marsupial creatures, so therefore we’re just going to pitch you as a thriller writer.’” Rob Wolf is the host of New Books in Science Fiction and the author of The Alternate Universe and The Escape. New York Times bestselling author James Rollins combines historical mystery and scientific exploration in this thrilling adventure tale in which Sigma Force must stop an ancient plague from decimating the modern world THE SEVENTH PLAGUE If the biblical plagues of Egypt truly happened—could they happen again—on a global scale? As a global crisis grows, Sigma Force will confront a threat born of the ancient past and made real by the latest science—a danger that will unleash a cascading series of plagues, culminating in a scourge that could kill all of the world's children . . . decimating mankind forever. THE SEVENTH PLAGUE, on sale December 13, 2016, the newest blockbuster thriller from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author James Rollins, finds the leader of a British archeological expedition, Professor Harold McCabe, stumbling out of the sands of the Sudanese desert, frantic and delirious, two years after vanishing with his research team. THE SEVENTH PLAGUE is an electrifying thrill ride from a master of the genre at the pinnacle of his career. JAMES ROLLINS is a New York Times bestselling author of international thrillers whose books have been translated into more than forty languages.
After sending Writer’s Bone an advanced copy of The Kill Switch, Rollins sat down with Daniel Ford and Sean Tuohy to discuss his writing process, what’s next for his new duo and his Sigma Force series, and the most scared he’s been on one of his real-life adventures.
While working as a vet and running a practice with fifteen employees, James began writing again. Beginning with short stories, he built his confidence and his skills until eventually he felt ready to tackle a full novel. As a huge fan of spelunking--or caving--it was natural that his Freshman effort should take place in a cave. Using the beats of Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park as a template, he created a story set deep in the bowels of the earth called Subterranean. After 50 rejections, he finally found an agent. James' response was to start writing in an entirely different genre: fantasy. Nowadays, James Czajkowski maintains two entirely separate but highly-successful literary careers, writing thrillers under the name James Rollins and fantasy novels under the name James Clemens. He is still a vet as a "hobby."James is best known for his Sigma Force series of novels, page turners which incorporate history, science and action. The latest in the series Eye of God sees the Sigma Force team racing around the world to prevent dark-matter induced catastrophe from destroying the world. Bryan, James and Hunter discuss James' latest novel, the unpredictably predictable reason why James returned to writing, creativity, favorite authors and how James is able to write two novels a year.Eye of God is available from bookstores everywhere and is also available as an audiobook. Eye of God is currently on The New York Times Bestseller list.
James Rollins, New York Times best-selling author and veterinarian, joined Tim in this episode to talk about his recently released short story, Tracker, and mystery novel, Bloodline: A Sigma Force Novel, both of which focus on Captain Tucker Wayne and his war dog, Kane. Tim asked James how he came up with the idea to write Tracker and use it as a lead in to Bloodline, how his career as a veterinarian helps him to write his best-selling novels and why he decided to publish Tracker in e-book format only. Tim also asked him what he hopes readers will take away from reading Tracker and Bloodline. If you have enjoyed any of the previous 7 novels in the Sigma Force series, or any of his other individual adventure thrillers, you’ll definitely want to listen to this episode to find out more!
