As the Union Pacific begins construction across Nebraska, the Central Pacific faces an immediate obstacle: the Sierra Nevada Mountains. In order to bypass the formidable granite mountains, the Central Pacific calls upon Chinese immigrants to do some of the most dangerous tasks, including using nitroglycerin to blast tunnels through the mountains. What does it take to raise boys into men of character, compassion, and courage in today's complex world? In a time when masculinity is often misunderstood or misrepresented, one mother chose to walk the path with fierce love, deep intention, and unwavering hope. This is a story of a woman who faced tragedy, betrayal, and transformation, yet emerged stronger, more open-hearted, and committed to nurturing greatness in her four sons. From the quiet strength of a scientist to the creative fire of an artist, each son carries a piece of her journey and their own unique story of becoming. This conversation is not just about parenting—it's about negotiating identity, values, and purpose as a family. It's about how love leads, even when the path isn't clear. It's about raising not just sons—but men the world needs. In this episode, Cindy Watson sits down with Lydia Saminiego and her sons, Joshua, Joseph, Wesley, and Thomas. They will discuss deeply personal conversation about Negotiating in Raising Sons to Become the Best Possible Men They Can Be. Lydia is a true force of nature—author of TO HELL WITH YOU: An Adventure Through Tragedy, Love, Betrayal and Transformation—a woman of unshakable hope who believes that anything can be overcome. Living in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Lake Tahoe, she finds joy in nature, healing, and human potential. Together with her sons—Joseph, a PhD in plasma physics; Joshua, a self-taught software engineer; Wesley, a brew master based in Argentina; and Thomas, an actor, singer, and guitarist in NYC—they'll share what it means to navigate family, values, growth, and the lifelong journey of becoming better men. In this episode we will learn: The role of a parent and the role of a leader Raising children as a single mother How to earn the trust of your children The need of a male role model for kids raised by a single mother What it means to be a man Parenting style Feminine energy into parenting The role emotion plays for effective leader and negotiator What is intuition and why does it matter? The 1848 discovery of gold in California didn't just change the lives of those that rushed across the country to strike it rich. It also shaped the development of the early United States in a big way. California being the 31st state in the union may seen kinda odd being that's its about as far west as you can get and there's a lotta area in between. Well that's all thanks to the thousands and thousands of people who braved the California Trail or the sea voyage around South America for months heading west to seek their fortunes. A majority never struck pay dirt in the Golden State but those 49er's and also a pretty sizable group of international gold seekers set down roots to establish the unique culture of the San Francisco area. It's not all sunshine and nuggets though, when you get a ton of people all rushing to one area to fight for wealth it's gonna get messy. All that and more on this week's exciting episode of Historically High. Support the show
Episode: 2422 John Muir, Naturalist and Engineer. Today, an unlikely engineer.
The staff working for Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency are mostly inexperienced engineers in their early 20s. They now have direct access to the U.S. federal payments system. The Army Corps of Engineers released water from two dams in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. State officials had no warning, and there seems to be no practical reason why it happened. HBO’s “Nature of the Crime” documentary follows three men who repeatedly go before parole boards. It also gives perspectives of their lawyers and the parole board members. A mystery photographer documented key moments in 1960s San Francisco, including the Summer of Love and formation of the Black Panther Party. One project is trying to uncover the person’s identity.
Bear Valley Ski Resort is a winter paradise in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, but it's also the location of several untimely deaths. Send us a Text Message.#293 - This week, I talk about my short but wonderful trip to Lake Tahoe and Echo Lake and how important it is to get away to the place where that recharges your batteries. The Sierra Nevada Mountains does that for me like no place else. I know there's a place that you like to go to when you feel the need to re-energize. No matter how brief, it is better to go for a short stay than no stay. I also talk about my terrific training run and I finally figured out why I fell on that fateful day last December. "This is a spiritual test, this is a spiritual war, as much as it is a material one. People say, ‘As above, so below.' How we are interfacing with the physical realities of this moment, the ways that we are leveraging our daily energy are either making us complicit with life's desecration or helping us to affirm life and the spirit of resistance. The battle that we are in is right now!"— Layla K. Feghali on the violence in Gaza, Sounds of SAND, Ep. #76We are now over four months into a worsening genocide in Gaza — with over 30,000 murdered and over 2 million now enduring military-enforced famine enacted by Israel, the US, and their global allies. There is no way a 90-minute teaching can impact the depth of sorrow, injustice, betrayal, and state-sponsored violence unfolding in Palestine. And yet, we share a moral obligation to resist the life-desecrating forces at work. In this gathering, our three guests share of their personal attempts as Earth-honoring ritualists and educators to embody core values and take tangible action in a time of genocide. In this episode I am talking to Bill Rountree about his book 'Aliens Are With Us: What I Learned From Aliens Visiting Me Over One Hundred Times Spanning Fifty Years'.After more than fifty years of keeping his experiences a secret for fear of ridicule and repercussions now that Bill Rountree has retired early from his successful career as a computer software manager he is ready to share his true story of the enigmatic visits he first began receiving when he was only eight years old. For the first few years he was only observed by a mysterious otherworldly device but then a voice spoke to him on two occasions, revealing that they were intelligent life forms from another planet, as well as telling him some other clues as to why they are here. These and other types of visits continued to occur several times a year for more than fifty years.“Aliens Are With Us” is unlike many other books in this genre. It is not a tragic and terrifying story of aliens or alien abduction but weaves all of Bill's experiences together to arrive at a more favorable conclusion regarding alien involvement on earth. Bill Rountree's story is a call to expand our horizons and embrace the unknown. His book challenges conventional beliefs, inviting readers to ponder the existence of life beyond Earth and its spiritual implications. "Aliens Are With Us" is more than a recounting of alien encounters; it's a journey into the depths of the unknown, offering a fresh perspective on the mysteries of the universe. The book is broken into two sections, the first being “What I Know” in which Bill tells about the visits from aliens which he knows beyond a doubt to be factual, followed by “What I Believe” in which he tells of other significant experiences which are more open to interpretation. He also shares alien experiences from other very credible sources, as well as some fascinating scientific information corroborating the possibility of other intelligent life in the universe, near death experiences, and reincarnation. The book concludes with several chapters on what he believes it all means based on his many experiences, including how it all relates to the afterlife, reincarnation, and our guardian angels.BioBill Rountree appeared to be living a very normal suburban lifestyle in Atlanta, Georgia but at age 11 realized he was being visited by intelligent life from another place or time. Unable to convince others of his ongoing experiences he ignored his visitors as best he could and continued to live his life eventually graduating with honors from a top 100 university with a major in Management Information Systems. He has now retired and written a book about his experiences but for the last twenty five years of his career he was a Senior Project Manager for large information technology projects for major corporations including Sprint PCS, Cocoa Cola and many others - while still being observed and visited by what he came to know were aliens from another world. Bill was previously married and is the father of a successful thirty-three year old son and currently spends his time between his home in Florida, his cabin in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California and on his sailboat in Southern California.https://www.aliensarewithus.com/Amazon link http://tinyurl.com/57yjpbv3https://www.pastliveshypnosis.co.uk/https://www.patreon.com/alienufopodcast
In episode 124 of the Outdoor Minimalist podcast, we explore what it means to be an activist and environmental advocate and how to build a community around conservation. To me, being an activist and environmentalist is simply a part of life. They're not a hobby or second thought because I've always had a strong sense of justice no matter where I lived or the community present in my life. As I've gotten older, I've begun to realize that community makes a huge difference in our mental health and our ability to create meaningful and impactful change. To help explore how you, no matter your location, can begin to take the reigns and tackle some of your area's environmental issues, I had the pleasure of chatting with two gentlemen who, like me, have embodied a life of activism in their community. Mitch Stevens and Russell Lowes have been enjoying the wild lands of America for decades, going back to their elementary school years. Mitch has been the Outings Chair for the Sierra Club's southern Arizona group since the early 2000s. He has led outings throughout the southwest and California's Sierra Nevada Mountains. Mitch also founded Southwest Discoveries, an ecotourism company based in Tucson, Arizona. Russell was involved with about 40 kids from two high schools in Arizona, setting up the first pro-wilderness group in the state. He has been promoting Wilderness Areas since then and has been an avid hiker since age 10. In November of 1846, an early snowstorm left the Donner Party's 87 men, women and children trapped in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Freezing and running out of food, they decided to send out a team of men and women on a rescue mission. But soon, the rescuers would find themselves lost and starving, and forced to face the ultimate taboo of the wilderness: whether to eat their fallen comrades to survive.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
In the 1840s, thousands of Americans journeyed west to California to pursue better lives. One group of settlers became infamous: the Donner Party. After taking an unproven shortcut, their wagon train fell dangerously behind schedule. If they couldn't cross the Sierra Nevada Mountains before winter came, they risked getting trapped in the snow and starving. But as pressure mounted for the wagons to move faster, tensions among the settlers would explode into violence.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

At 5:30 AM, on a Saturday morning in late 1997, tonight's guest, Paul Truslow, was lying in bed when he heard his dogs going crazy in his backyard. At the time, he was living in Rockland, California, not far from Sacramento. His property backed up to a game preserve that served as a gateway to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Wondering what his dogs were so stirred up about, he got out of bed and looked out a window, in one of his back bedrooms. When he looked out the window, he noticed that a black form was lying about 40 yards behind his back fence, in the huge field behind his neighborhood. At first, he thought it was just a black bear, but black bears don't do what the creature he was looking at did next. The Donner Party faces another punishing trip across a desert before it finally reaches the Sierra Nevada Mountains on the border between Nevada and California. The party has lost a ton of time, but the travelers still believe they can make it over the mountains and into central California before winter. Three years ago, on September 5th, Chief Warrant Officer 5 Joseph Rosamond was the pilot in command of a California Air National Guard CH-47 that rescued hundreds of trapped campers in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The campers were cut off and surrounded by wildfires. The actions of CW5 Rosamond, his crew, and a fellow UH-60 Blackhawk crew risked their lives to land and recover 242 individuals in the Mammoth Pools. Despite local, state, and Homeland Security officials advising against them attempting a rescue they pressed forward, knowing they might not return. This woman is all about inspiring others and pushing herself. On this podcast we talk about the successful virtual book club she started during COVID. We have included more details about it below.
