Partnerships can be one of the most powerful ways to grow a business. However, they can also bring risk, stress, and financial challenges if not handled properly. In this episode of the I Hate Numbers podcast, we explore what makes a partnership successful and how to avoid the common pitfalls. Whether you are a freelancer, creative, or small business owner, understanding how to structure and manage a partnership is essential for long-term success. Why Partnerships MatterWhen done right, partnerships can accelerate business growth, improve creativity, and reduce workload pressure. Working with the right person allows you to combine strengths, share responsibilities, and build something greater together. However, choosing the wrong partner can lead to conflict, financial loss, and long-term damage.Start with Shared ValuesA strong partnership begins with shared values. This does not mean you need identical personalities, but you must align on key business principles. Ask yourself:Do you both want the same outcome from the business?Do you share similar views on money, time, and commitment? Can you trust each other when challenges arise?Misalignment at this stage almost always leads to problems later.Look for a Proven Track RecordYou do not need a partner with decades of experience, but you do need evidence that they can follow through. Have they delivered results before? Have you worked together previously? If not, consider starting with a smaller project before committing long term.Complementary Skills WinThe best partnerships are built on complementary strengths, not duplication. For example:One partner may focus on creativityThe other may manage finance and operationsThis balance improves efficiency and avoids conflict over responsibilities.Clarity Is EssentialMany partnerships fail because roles and responsibilities are not clearly defined. You should document:Who handles financesWho communicates with clientsWho owns intellectual propertyWho makes final decisionsClarity prevents confusion, builds trust, and protects the business.Choose the Right StructureThere are several ways to structure a partnership, including:Informal freelancer collaborationsGeneral partnershipsLimited companiesLimited liability partnershipsEach option has different legal and tax implications, so choosing the right one is a key part of business tax planning UK.Be Honest and Have the Hard ConversationsSuccessful partnerships are built on honesty and transparency. You must be willing to:Discuss money openlyAddress issues earlyChallenge each other respectfullyAvoiding difficult conversations leads to bigger problems later.Put Everything in WritingA written agreement is not optional. It is essential. Your partnership agreement should cover:Profit sharingOwnershipExit strategiesDispute resolutionThis protects both parties and provides clarity from day one.Plan for the “What Ifs”Every partnership should plan for potential challenges before they happen. Consider:What happens if one partner leaves? What happens if priorities change? What happens if the business grows quickly?Planning ahead reduces risk and ensures stability. Why Systems and Transparency MatterClear financial visibility is critical in any partnership. Using tools like Xero cloud accounting allows both partners to track finances and maintain transparency. This builds trust and supports better decision-making in your small business finance UK journey.Key TakeawayA successful partnership is not built on assumptions or good intentions alone. It requires planning, communication, and structure. If you take the time to align values, define roles, and plan for the future, you can create a partnership that supports growth and long-term success.Episode Timecodes00:00 – Introduction to partnerships01:00 – Why partnerships matter02:00 – Shared values and alignment03:30 – Track record and testing partnerships04:30 – Complementary skills05:30 – Roles and responsibilities07:00 – Legal structures explained08:30 – Hard conversations and transparency10:00 – Putting agreements in writing11:30 – Planning for future risks12:30 – Final thoughtsFurther Support
Trying harder feels like the answer—but what if it's the problem? In this episode of Mountain Collective, we explore the idea of gentle discipline and why forcing outcomes often creates resistance instead of progress. From creative work to business and personal growth, pushing too hard can lead to overthinking, burnout, and a loss of momentum. This episode breaks down the balance between discipline and gentleness, using the “bonsai principle” as a metaphor for sustainable growth: guide, don't force. We dive into:Why over-attachment to results kills creativityThe difference between intensity and consistencyHow to work without internal resistanceWhat “effortless action” actually means in practiceIf you've been feeling stuck, unmotivated, or disconnected from your work—this episode will help you reset your approach and reconnect with the process.Less force. More flow.

What if your past isn't just remembered—but physically carried with you every day?In Episode 285, Mike and Mark dive into The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk, a transformative exploration of how trauma shapes the brain, body, and our perception of the world. This episode challenges the idea that trauma is “just a story” and instead reveals how deeply it influences our reactions, relationships, and sense of self. From understanding your personal “map of the world” to learning how to release stored stress through movement, imagination, and even body positioning—this conversation is both eye-opening and practical. If you've ever felt stuck in patterns you can't explain, or sensed that something from the past is still holding you back, this episode offers a powerful framework for awareness, healing, and forward momentum. Now more than ever, understanding how to process and release what we carry is essential—not just for growth, but for living fully.Key ThemesTrauma as perception, not just memoryThe “map of the world” shaped by past experiencesHow trauma physically alters the brain and bodyEmotional pain as a full-body experienceGetting “stuck” in patterns of thought and behaviorHealing through movement, imagination, and creativityThe power of body language and posture in emotional statesAwareness and choice as tools for transformationConcepts & BreakthroughsOne of the most profound ideas in this episode is that trauma is not simply an event—it is the way the brain adapts to that event. As Bessel explains, our minds construct a “map of the world” based on past experiences, and that map determines how we interpret everything that follows. Two people can experience the same situation and walk away with completely different realities. This becomes especially important when trauma is unresolved. It doesn't stay in the past—it shows up in present reactions, often disproportionate to the situation. As discussed in the episode, someone may react strongly not because of what's happening now, but because of what happened years ago.Another key breakthrough is the understanding that trauma lives in the body. Feelings like anxiety, dread, or stress are not abstract—they manifest physically: tight shoulders, shallow breathing, or a clenched gut. As highlighted in the transcript, “heartbreak” and “gut-wrenching” are not just metaphors—they are literal bodily experiences .Healing, therefore, cannot be purely intellectual. It must involve the body. Movement, breathwork, and physical awareness become essential tools for releasing stored trauma. Even posture plays a role—standing upright, opening the chest, and adopting a “position of joy” can directly influence emotional state.Perhaps the most liberating idea explored is the concept of breaking out of the “trauma trap.” Through imagination, creativity, and even theatrical expression, we can step into new roles and identities. This creates distance from old patterns and opens the door to new ways of being.Habits, Tools & Mental Models1. The “Map of the World” CheckRegularly question your interpretation of events. Ask: Is this reality, or my past shaping my perception?2. Trauma Detox PracticeJust like physical detox, emotional detox requires intentional effort—through journaling, movement, or conversation.3. Body Awareness ScansNotice where stress lives in your body. Shoulders, neck, and gut are common signals of unresolved tension.4. Intercept the Thought LoopWhen revisiting past pain, consciously interrupt the pattern. Redirect attention before it spirals.Become a Member of the Moonshots Podcast:https://www.patreon.com/Moonshots

In this episode of the Money Lighthouse Podcast for Spiritual Entrepreneurs, Michel explores the deeper meaning behind The Illusion of Money by Kyle Cease and what it reveals about abundance, identity, and emotional safety. Rather than viewing money as the source of security, freedom, or self-worth, this conversation invites listeners to see money as a mirror — reflecting unconscious beliefs, survival patterns, and inner states of being. This episode gently unpacks why so many spiritual entrepreneurs feel conflicted about money, even when they are deeply aligned with meaningful work. Michel discusses how fear-based identities, nervous system dysregulation, and unconscious expectations placed on money can create pressure, inconsistency, and emotional strain within a business. Listeners are invited to consider how money often carries weight it was never meant to hold. With compassion and clarity, this episode lays the foundation for a healthier, more peaceful relationship with money — one rooted in self-trust, embodiment, and alignment rather than hustle or self-sacrifice. This is the first part of a two-part series that invites spiritual entrepreneurs to gently release survival-based money patterns and reconnect with their inner lighthouse.Topics Covered:Money as a mirror rather than a source of safetyThe emotional and identity-based roots of money stressWhy spiritual entrepreneurs often feel conflicted about earningHow survival mode impacts income and creativityThe nervous system's role in receiving abundanceReleasing the illusion that money equals worth or permissionIf money feels emotionally charged, confusing, or heavy in your business, this episode offers gentle clarity and reassurance. In the rapidly evolving landscape of technology, artificial intelligence (AI) stands out as a transformative force that democratizes access to complex systems and tools. Dave Robins discusses a new device, the FREE-WILi box, which illustrates how AI can bridge the gap between advanced technology and users who may lack extensive technical skills. By simplifying the process of interaction with technology, AI enables a broader audience to engage with and benefit from the advancements in the tech world.AI Simplifies Tech for EveryoneHistorically, engaging with technology required a certain level of expertise. Devices like Arduino and Raspberry Pi are excellent examples of platforms that allow users to create and innovate, but they often demand a solid understanding of programming languages such as C or Python. While these platforms have fostered a community of makers and enthusiasts, they inadvertently excluded those who may have a passion for technology but lack the coding skills necessary to harness its full potential. This is where AI comes into play, transforming the way individuals interact with technology. The FREE-WILi box exemplifies this shift. By integrating sensors and actuators with a user-friendly Python API, the device allows users to create interactive applications without needing to dive deep into programming. As Robins explains, the AI simplifies the process by providing clear documentation and examples, making it accessible for those who may not have a technical background. This approach not only empowers users to explore their creativity but also fosters a sense of community where individuals can share their projects and ideas.A Celebration of Community and CreativityThe comparison of the current AI revolution to the early days of personal computing in the 1980s is particularly poignant. During that era, the excitement surrounding computers stemmed from their novelty and the potential for personal expression and creativity. Similarly, AI today is igniting that same enthusiasm, enabling individuals to engage with technology in ways that were previously unimaginable. Marlo reflects on his own experiences with retro computing, highlighting how the simplicity and accessibility of early computers allowed a generation to experiment, learn, and innovate. This nostalgia underscores the importance of making technology approachable once again. Moreover, the real-world applications of AI further illustrate its significance. For instance, the ability to program the FREE-WILi box to control lighting at events, such as concerts, showcases how AI can facilitate complex tasks with minimal effort from the user. By simply specifying desired outcomes-like changing colors based on device orientation-individuals can create dynamic and engaging experiences without needing to understand the underlying technology. This capability transforms the way events are organized, allowing for more creativity and personalization.Implications Far Beyond Home UseThe implications of AI simplifying technology extend beyond individual users to entire communities and industries. As more people gain access to tools that were once reserved for experts, the potential for innovation and collaboration increases exponentially. AI acts as a catalyst for creativity, enabling a diverse range of individuals to contribute to the technological landscape. This shift not only leads to the development of new ideas and solutions but also fosters inclusivity, ensuring that technology serves as a tool for everyone, regardless of their technical background.ConclusionIn conclusion, AI is revolutionizing the way we interact with technology by making it more accessible and user-friendly. The insights shared by Robins highlight how innovations like the FREE-WILi box are empowering individuals to engage with technology creatively and intuitively. As AI continues to evolve, it holds the promise of bridging the gap between complex systems and everyday users, ultimately simplifying tech for everyone. This democratization of technology is not just a trend; it is a fundamental shift that will shape the future of innovation and creativity in our increasingly digital world.Interview by Marlo Anderson of The Tech Ranch.Sponsored by: Get $5 to protect your credit card information online with Privacy. I share how losing her shattered the life I thought I was living, and how that rupture rippled into this podcast: why I went quiet and what it has meant to be reshaped by grief instead of trying to outrun it.Inside this episode, I talk about:The story of my mother's death and the immediate aftermathHow grief hijacked my body, my nervous system, and my creativityThe guilt and shame of disappearing from the mic Grief as an alchemical process: what has burned away, and what remainsThe slow, messy rising-from-the-ashes The blooming and integrationThis is a tender, honest conversation about love, loss, and the parts of us that die with our parents, and the strange, sacred work of rebuilding a self after that.If you've ever gone offline during a season of grief, or felt like you were “failing” at being visible while your heart was breaking, I hope this episode feels like permission and companionship.Thank you for still being here with me in the fire and the rebirth. https://www.downwithmydemons.com/To connect with Chloe Lionheart:Email: chloe@downwithmydemons.comor visit: https://www.wholeheartednetwork.com/Resources:The Prophet (Free E-Book): https://www.kahlilgibran.com/images/The%20Prophet%20Ebook%20by%20Kahlil%20Gibran.pdf"The Wild Edge of Sorrow" by Francis Weller:https://www.francisweller.net/books.htmlAll There Is Podcast with Anderson Cooperhttps://www.cnn.com/all-there-is-anderson-cooper"The Smell of Rain on Dust" by Martin Prechtelhttps://www.marcusbooks.com/book/9781583949399"Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents" by Lindsay C. JB, Sandy, and their guest Tricia dive into the quirky world of art, nostalgia, and Austin's ever-changing culture. It all started with a gold star. A single shining sticker on a kindergarten chart that—without me realizing it—began rewiring my understanding of love, worth, and motivation. In this episode of The Whole Parent Podcast, we dive into the hidden cost of praise—why “good job” might be doing more harm than good, and how something as innocent as a sticker chart can turn play into performance.Drawing on groundbreaking research from psychologists like Edward Deci and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, I unravel how extrinsic rewards shift our kids' focus from curiosity to compliance…and why this shift often leaves adults feeling hollow, disconnected, and trapped in perfection.Through personal stories and parenting insights (including an unforgettable block tower moment with my son), we explore what happens when we stop praising kids for performing and start truly seeing them instead. If you've ever wondered whether we're raising children who chase approval instead of wonder, this episode is for you.In this episode, you'll learn:Why praise can undermine confidence and creativityThe difference between being seen and being evaluatedHow to encourage intrinsic motivation in your kids—and yourselfA new language of love that sounds nothing like “good job”Let's trade gold stars for presence—and rediscover the quiet magic of being enough, just as we are.Send us a textSupport the show

In this week's episode of The ADHD Women's Wellbeing Podcast, we're shining a light on the critical but often ignored intersection between ADHD and the criminal justice system.I'm joined by Sarah Templeton, CEO of ADHD Liberty, counsellor, author of The Prison Counsellor, and tireless campaigner for ADHD awareness in prisons, probation, and homelessness services. Sarah shares how her powerful personal and professional journey of late diagnosed ADHD has led her to dedicate her work to supporting those misunderstood, misdiagnosed, and mistreated by a system that labels ADHD traits as “bad” behaviour rather than unmet needs. With a fierce belief in rehabilitation, Sarah discusses common ADHD traits that can trigger "bad behaviour", practical ways ADHD can be managed behind bars without medication, and how improved understanding of ADHD can transform self-esteem, life outcomes, and even steer individuals from criminality to entrepreneurship. Her work is paving the way for a world where ADHD isn't punished but supported, and where young people are guided away from the school-to-prison pipeline. My new book, The ADHD Women's Wellbeing Toolkit, is now available, grab your copy here! What You'll Learn:Why society must stop labelling ADHD as “naughty” and start supporting it as a neurological conditionWhy ADHD traits like impulsivity and boundary-pushing are often misread as “bad behaviour”How poor self-esteem and shame in undiagnosed ADHD can drive offendingSarah's work to create ADHD awareness videos in prisons How parenting can be the turning point between criminality and creativityThe urgent need for ADHD screening in schools, prisons, probation, addiction and homelessness servicesWhat managing ADHD without medication or exercise looks like in prison (e.g. breathwork, mindset strategies)The role of ADHD awareness in rehabilitation The importance of research into ADHD and criminality, and the transformational effects of diagnosis and rehabilitationUnderstanding ADHD as a condition rather than a moral failing can significantly enhance self-esteem and promote recovery for those affected, as well as improve the criminal justice system. Mike Brodie's first monograph, A Period of Juvenile Prosperity was published by Twin Palms more than a decade ago in 2013, depicting his fellow rail-riders and drifters in a rebellious and wildfire pursuit of adventure and freedom. “Brodie leapt into the life of picture-making as if he was the first to do it,” Danny Lyon wrote about the book in Aperture. Next came Tones of Dirt and Bone, a collection of earlier SX-70 pictures Brodie made when photography first led him to hopping freights, when he was known as “The Polaroid Kidd.” And then Brodie seemed to disappear from the art world as suddenly and mysteriously as he'd first appeared. Maybe his vanishing was another myth. Maybe it was just a necessary retreat. “I was divorcing myself from all that,” he says. “I was growing up. I was pursuing this other life.”In Nashville he became a diesel mechanic. Fell in love. Moved across the country again. Got married. Bought land on the long dusty Winnemucca road Johnny Cash sang about. Started his own business. Built a house. Put down roots. And when that life exploded, the open road called again. Throughout almost all of it, his cameras were with him, and at last those pictures are coming to light. If Michael Brodie's first monograph was a cinematic dream, his latest, Failing, again published by Twin Palms in 2024, is the awakening and the reckoning, a raw, wounded, and searingly honest photographic diary of a decade marked by love and heartbreak, loss and grief — biblical in its scope, and in its search for truth and meaning. Here is the flip side of the American dream, seen from within; here is bearing close witness to the brutal chaos of addiction and death; here are front-seat encounters with hitchhikers and kindred wanderers on society's edges, sustained by the ragtag community of the road. Failing often exists in darkness but is tuned to grace. Brodie's eye stays forever open to the strange and fleeting beauty that exists in forgotten places — the open country and the lost horizons that sweep past dust-spattered windows in a spectral blur.Mike worked on and features in a recently released hour long documentary eponymously entitled Slack, the nickname of his one time girlfriend, Mia Justice Smith, who sadly died of a drug overdose, and to whom the film is dedicated. The film, which is directed by Mike's friend and collaborator Cyrill Lachauer., revisits the freighthopping years and delves into Mike's creative collaboration with Mia.In episode 266, Mike discusses, among other things:The documentary he helped to make about his freighthopping years - SlackHow train hopping and photography went hand in handRomanticism vs. miseryTrain hopping as a performanceLosing his girlfriend, Mia Justice Smith, to a drug overdoseHis attempt at a ‘normal' life and how that impacts his creativityThe success of A Period of Juvenile Prosperity and its downsideHow the title came aboutThe darkness of the pictures in latest book, FailingTussling with the question of exploitation and ethical responsibilityAmbitions to make a feature film one dayThe ongoing push/pull of art v. home lifeThe desire to photograph machines and ways of life and ways of working that are passing awayNext steps in the USA - projects vs. photographing lifeWebsite | Instagram Become a A Small Voice podcast member here to access exclusive additional subscriber-only content and the full archive of 200+ previous episodes for £5 per month.Subscribe to my weekly newsletter here for everything A Small Voice related and much more besides.Follow me on Instagram here.Build Yourself a Squarespace Website video course here.

Weave it through your days for a week and then move on to the next one. It will have a snowball effect. Here are three Doable Changes from this conversation:ASSESS YOUR SPEAKING. Do you find yourself stumbling when you try to say what you do? Do you ramble too much on sales calls? Do you have your story down pat, but don't know what to do with it? Are you at a loss when it comes to how to get in front of an audience? What's getting in your way of speaking?UNDERSTAND THE POWER OF SPEAKING. Think about a powerful speaker you've seen. In this episode of The Feminine Frequency, Amy Natalie sits down with poet, artist, and entrepreneur James McRae for a deeply inspiring conversation on creativity as a sacred healing practice. Together, they explore how life's joys, pains, and heartbreaks become imprinted on the body and how creative expression serves as a powerful tool for alchemizing and releasing this energy.James shares his insights on how creativity goes beyond mere production, becoming a devotional process of emotional liberation and soul-led service. From poetry and meme-making to building soulful businesses and communities, creativity is framed as a journey of reclamation and renewal. The episode delves into the yin and yang dynamics of the creative process — balancing receptivity with action, surrender with discipline — and the importance of honoring inner cycles and creative timing. Amy and James also discuss the entrepreneurial path as a uniquely creative act, where service and purpose take precedence over strategy and perfection.Listeners struggling with creative blocks, perfectionism, or burnout will find encouragement to reimagine creativity as a healing, spiritual purge — one that allows authentic expression to flow naturally from within. How trauma and life experiences are stored in the body and can be released through creative expressionThe danger of suppressed creativity and its impact on spiritual and emotional healthThe balance of feminine (yin) and masculine (yang) energies in creativityThe necessity of living fully to spark genuine inspirationEmbracing imperfection and repetition as keys to mastery and authentic voiceThe intersection of creativity and entrepreneurship The cultural power of memes as modern poetry and storytellingSPECIAL OFFERS
