In this episode we'll be discussing the results of the recent French legislative elections, which defied the predictions of most analysts. More than that, we'll be discussing the trends that have been shaping France's society for years now, from politics to the media industry. More specifically: what can explain both, the expectations of Marine Le Pen's far-right National Rally party winning these elections, on the one hand, and the final success of progressive parties, on the other hand? The lead guest of this episode is Johan Weisz-Myara, founder and producer at Street Press. Born 15 years ago, Street Press is an independent media organisation which has broadly covered the life of young French citizens in the outskirts, or banlieus, of French metropolitan areas. In relation to the French elections, Street Press launched dozens of investigations into the French far-right over the past year and co-organised the biggest anti-far-right protests in the country, in Paris, ahead of the legislative elections. But, in this episode, we'll also hear from Nikita Rathod, Europod's Social Media Officer. Nikita discusses how she, as a young Indian woman, has been living the runup to the elections, these months. Tune into episode 14 now! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The coming-of-age movie is a film genre in which the main character goes through a maturing event that results in the protagonist becoming enlightened, entering adulthood, and beginning a new stage of life. These films are meaningful to us because growth is good and beautiful, and in fact, these stories are worth sharing and experiencing together. But what is a Christian's coming of age? How does someone grow spiritually? Is it tied to an event like baptism or communion? Does it take place at a retreat or on a short-term missions trip? What makes someone mature as a Christian? "How do I preach the gospel? What if I'm not good at it? As messengers of the good news of Jesus Christ, we all need to start somewhere. Whether it's leading a devotional in a small group, volunteering as a Sunday School teacher, or sharing your testimony at an outreach event—these are places to grow your skills and practice preaching. I've been consistently preaching for a year. I'm getting my reps in with writing and delivering sermons, and I'm grateful to my church for the opportunity. If you're like me, you might feel a bit foolish as a beginner preacher—but don't let this discourage you. Here are three lessons learned after one year of preaching." A federal court recently handed down an important ruling on section 230 which addresses immunity for social media platforms. The fourth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that section 230 does not protect all online publication decisions. What's so significant about this decision? Joining us to discuss section 230 and online censorship we have Jason Fyk, Founder of Social Media Freedom Foundation. The global pandemic ushered in mass lockdowns along with what seemed like near universal vaccine mandates. Most private, federal, and state agencies all mandated the vaccine, including the United States Military. Our next guest resigned from his post as Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army due to the mandate, and we are happy to have him on with us to share his story.

This month we're talking about one of the all-time classics of science-fiction literature, and arguably the book that demonstrated science-fiction could be literature: Ursula K. Le Guin's The Left Hand Of Darkness, a million-selling Hugo and Nebula winner. We talk about the book's enduring legacy, its approach to worldbuilding, character, and loose(ish) plot, and how the book plays with ideas of light, darkness, a balance of the two, and ultimately, love. We also dig into the book's sexual politics, the extent to which the book is feminist with respect to its portrayals of sex and gender, and the controversies that greeted the book from some surprising sources. Joining us to talk about Le Guin's book is the author Emily Inkpen. Emily was born in South London and raised on the South Coast of England, but moved to Glasgow for her university years and now lives in Berkshire. She juggles copywriting for Marmalade Game Studio with writing novels, short stories and audio drama, and is the Social Media Officer for the BSFA.Elsewhere The Judge talks about monarchies in our writing, particularly pertinent given the recent succession in the UK. We have the winner of the Chrons October 75-word writing challenge, and peace talks at the 43rd Andromeda conference sadly collapse when the discussion turns to the erotic properties of golden eagles. Naturally.Join us in December for a talk about Christmas ghost stories with the author Alison Littlewood!Index[00:00 - ] Emily Inkpen Interview Pt 1 Voicemail 1 The Judge's Corner Writing Challenge Voicemail 2 Emily Inkpen Interview Pt 2
