The Korgis are a legendary British pop band whose music has resonated with audiences for decades. With their distinctive sound and heartfelt lyrics, they have left an indelible mark on the music industry. The band was formed by singer/guitarist/keyboardist Andy Davis and singer/bassist/guitarist James Warren, both of whom were former members of the renowned 1970s group Stackridge. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, The Korgis rose to prominence with their hit singles, "If I Had You" in 1979 and "Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime" in 1980. These songs showcased the band's ability to craft infectious melodies and introspective lyrics, capturing the hearts of fans around the world.Though the band experienced some lineup changes over the years, The Korgis of today continues to captivate audiences with their unique blend of talent and creativity. Founder member James Warren, the original vocalist, has remained a constant presence in the band. Joining him is John Baker, who has taken on additional lead vocalist duties since 1992. Al Steele, a member of The Korgis' live band in the 90s and their 2017 comeback, contributes his exceptional guitar skills. The band also welcomes multi-instrumentalist Danielle Nicholls, who adds her own flair on guitar, vocals, and percussion. Completing the lineup is the highly skilled studio drummer, Paul Smith. In a remarkable turn of events, The Korgis found themselves embarking on a unique musical journey intersecting with history. On July 21, 2023, the highly anticipated Christopher Nolan film, "OPPENHEIMER," was released. Coincidentally, The Korgis had been in the process of writing a song about the enigmatic figure known as the "Father of the A-Bomb" himself, J. Robert Oppenheimer.Oppenheimer's story is one of complexity and intrigue. While he played a pivotal role in the creation of the atomic bomb, he later dedicated his life to the pursuit of peace. The Korgis recognized the extraordinary nature of Oppenheimer's life and sought to honour his legacy through their music. Collaborating with songwriter Chris Hopkins (aka Exhibit-1) and Al Steele, James Warren spearheaded the creation of a song that would be anything but ordinary, just like Oppenheimer himself. The Korgis brought this ambitious project to life, infusing their signature sound with the profound narrative of Oppenheimer's life. With their meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to musical excellence, they crafted a song that does justice to the complex story of J. Robert Oppenheimer. The Korgis' music inspires and captivates audiences, bridging the gap between generations with their timeless pop sound. Through their extraordinary storytelling and masterful musicianship, The Korgis have secured their place as one of the most revered British pop bands of all time. Hosted on Acast. Kieran and Derek are joined this week by James Warren and Al Steele from the brilliant Korgis. A band with its roots in prog rock with Stackridge, they played the first ever Glastonbury, James would eventually form The Korgis with Andy Davis in 1978. Bursting into the mainstream with their highly melodic tunes, thoughtful lyrics, strong vocal harmonies and uber-catchy hooks eventually resulted in commercial success with "If I Had You" The Dumb Waiters album was a big success largely owing to the runaway hit 'Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime'. The Band are back with the innovate release " Kartoon World" an album that spans generations. Let Christy Take It are proud to present The Korgis. Big kudos to our editor in chief Mark Cullen for all his hard work
